Starring: Jimmy ” Superfly” Snuka,Jesse “The Body” Ventura and Bull Ramos.
This is an exciting and fast 1/2 hour 1970’s documentary on north west wrestling.
There is alot of footage of Bull Ramos,Who seems to be re-incarnated by TNA’s Samoa Joe,The resemblance/physique/demeanor are uncannily similar.
Jess Ventura is shown with his tie-dyed tights,no beard and that yellow stringy hair.
Jimmy Snuka looks great as usual and must have been thinking on wrassling someone like Chris Jericho someday !
Great bit about using blood capsules and blading.
ALL of these old skool ‘rasslers would hurt anybody currently whose not tougher than the drugs he is taking.
MOST of the wrestling legends featured have died of natural causes( in their 60s) or are just
retired.
Besides all your WWE & TNA dvds this IN YOUR FACE would add something special to your collection.

David Cassuto P. Michael Conn, Director of Research Advocacy at Oregon Health and Sciences Universit

David Cassuto

P. Michael Conn, Director of Research Advocacy at Oregon Health and Sciences University and the the Oregon National Primate Research Center is concerned that the proliferation of animal law courses taught at U.S. law schools (111 schools at last count) poses a threat to animal research. This claim is interesting on a number of levels.

First and lamentably, the law currently poses almost no threat at all to animal research. To the extent that laboratory animals have any protection at all (and most don’t — mice and rats, the most popular lab animals, are exempt from the paltry protections of the Animal Welfare Act), virtually no one has standing to enforce those protections. So Mr. Conn’s concern seems unfounded.

Second, Mr. Conn seems chiefly worried that animal law courses which teach “animal rights” could “set up adversarial potential on campuses.” He says that “[f]ailure to address developments in the education of law students is likely to have a long-ranging impact on the ability to develop new treatments needed for human and animal well-being.” This seems like suspect logic as well. The primary demonstrators against vivisection are almost certainly not animal law students or even law students (or lawyers) at all. His fear of animal law more likely stems from something else.

Does he not want animal law courses taught because they might cause a critical reevaluation of vivisection? Does he think we should keep law students from thinking about such things? Does he wish to similarly cabin bioethics courses? If he would answer yes to any of the above (and I would guess that he would probably answer yes to all three), then the threat he perceives to his field does not reside with animal law. He rather fears that his discipline cannot withstand ethical scrutiny. Consequently, he wishes to wall it off from review and give it an ethical pass in the name of science.

Articles like his, which use scientistic rhetoric to cloak a narrow insularity, threaten not just the animal cause but all education. Knowledge can be dangerous. But more dangerous still would be to give over to so-called experts the ability to determine what we should and should not learn.

And so we have Mr. Conn, who warns ominously of catastrophe arising from a “failure to address” developments in legal education. I wonder how he proposes to “address” law students’ burgeoning interest in animal law. Whatever it means, I say: Bring it on. I will continue to teach animal law and I look forward to the day when Mr. Conn and his ilk actually have something to fear from it.

The last few weeks have been a bit bonkers and hugely exciting for me, with some great successes personally and for people I know.

Just over a week ago I attended the British Guild of Beer Writers dinner in London and put faces to the names of many bloggers and beery folk I’ve met through the internet over the last 6 months, spending a day rambling around London with some great people and seeing some new friends pick up well deserved awards.

At work we scooped a DMA award for the Best Online Display Advertising for our campaign for Republic, fighting off competition from some really fantastic campaigns, brands and agencies (you can see the best online display ads here on the link above)

Rick Harrison who works with me at AWA also scooped the top prize in the National Trust and Sunday Times photo competition for his shot of a walker descending a steep path in the Lake District. I’m deeply jealous of his new Nikon D90 but my claim to fame is that the winning shot was actually taken on my camera (albeit by Rick before he sold it to me!)

Golden Twit Award commendations for Real Ale Reviews: I'm a commended social media practitioner now I guess!

And to top it all off, I recently found out that my beer reviews blog, Real Ale Reviews, had won two commendations from the inaugural Golden Twit Awards organised by The Drum magazine.

The award makes the Real Ale Reviews team particularly proud because of the categories it is in: ‘Writing’ and ‘Information Service’. These nicely describe two of the pillars that the blog was built on – to help add to the great beer blogging and writing that is out there, but to also make beer reviews accessible to a wide audience and to provide useful information.

I’m hoping that the next few weeks and months will be just as exciting, although there’s a lot to live up to now!

Another Teacher Hot For Students A 27-year-old Minneapolis-St. Paul teacher has surrendered to autho

Another Teacher Hot For Students

A 27-year-old Minneapolis-St. Paul teacher has surrendered to authorities after it was discovered that some good ol’ fashioned statutory hanky-panky, involving her and a then 16 year-old male student, had been going on for several months.

But here’s the kicker, apparently this teacher has a bit of a pedigree as she is the granddaughter of wrestling legend, and Nursing Home Deathmatch Champion of the World, Verne Gagne.

Another hot teacher pillaging students? Where the hell were these teachers when I was in school? I’d have perfect attendance and would definitely stay for the extra curricular activities! But I digress.

All of you can speak on the stupidity of the teacher if you want, but I saw a picture of the accused and the obvious stupid one is the kid who turned her in. Not only is this chick bangable, but she paid for EVERYTHING!

She took this kid to movies, dinners, paid for the hotel room they had sex in, and even gave him rides home afterward! Jesus kid, what more do you want!?! Free meal, free movie, some horizontal polka, and a ride home after. That’s every guys dream right there!

I mean, aside from the fact that she has a crazy, old person beating grandfather, she seems like a 10 to me. Plus she showed great hospitality. Most girls nowadays want the guy to pay for everything, but not this chick. She went out her way to pleased this kid, now she has a court case pending.

I swear this youth today are retarded, but that’s just my humble opinion.

Of course I’m somewhat joking. Teachers getting at students isn’t exactly kosher, especially in high school. All I’m saying is should she really get all of the fault for this?

Wrestling Legend, and Nursing Home Deathmatch Champion of the World, Verne Gagne

I mean, it was obviously consensual as what guy in his right mind is gonna turn down a sexy teacher? That’s at least a top 5 fantasy for most guys. He could’ve easily said no and that would’ve been the end of it.

Now she does get some blame too, as she knew the consequences of her actions and it was a stupid move on her part. Plus with a mountain of evidence against her, it looks like another hot teacher is going to the big house.

For shame, because I could use some extra credit right about now.

Last year I was in New York for Thanksgiving so K and I didn’t spend it together. This year we were invited to four people’s Thanksgivings which was so nice and unexpected.

We thought that we’d be able to go two. Though later we found that both started at the same time. We decided to go to our friend Mark’s house for a traditional “pre-Western contact” Hawaiian dinner and then to the Marine Corps Base in Kaneohe for dessert.

It would have been nice to spend more time at each place but either way it was an amazing holiday and I’m still full.

When we arrived in Manoa, the table was set so beautifully.

Mark had fish and breadfruit on the fire downstairs and I was so excited to eat. I love Hawaiian food: lau lau, haupia, and poi. Some people aren’t fans of poi because of its texture and bland-ish taste. But to me it’s like mochi pudding. I love it. I feel like I knew what it would taste like before I ever tasted it and I knew that I would like it.

We also had awa for the first time. Mark was straining it by hand for awhile before we ate. Kalei warned us that it doesn’t taste good and if she hadn’t I might have thought so. But you’re meant to drink it all down at once before a meal. It has a relaxing effect and prepares your body for the big meal ahead. Mark said that some people even use it to help them sleep. I drank it all and it wasn’t so bad…what was nice was the novocaine like effect afterwards. K wondered later ‘can you become an awa-holic?’ Mark answered ‘yes’.

The meal was so delicious but I got full so fast. I was all revved up to dig in and then all of a sudden everything on my plate was gone and I felt like I couldn’t take one more bite of food…and believe me I tried.

After dinner the sun began to set and it started to rain sideways.

Mark said that it was good luck. That if you looked at the mountain it looked like a woman’s face and the rain was like her hair flowing behind her.

It was a lovely dinner. But we were running late and had to head over to Kea’s for dessert. Before we did though, we had one more cup of awa.

When I was in college my boyfriend was in the Air Force. One Summer rather than go home to my parent’s house, I lived secretly on base with him. I have some really fond memories of that time. Life on base for an enlisted is not fancy, it can be kind of boring but there’s also alot of order and camaraderie. Which I really like. In some ways I was looking forward to revisiting a military base.

There were some construction issues so we drove around in circles for a little bit. It was interesting to see the neighborhoods–winding narrow roads lined by houses that looked very new, white and upright…like soldier houses. I was reminded by our host’s comment over the course of the night how easy it would be not to leave base at all. Everything you need is mostly there. K remarked how it felt like a city that could be anywhere–that we could have easily not been in Hawaii at all.

When we got to our friend’s house they had finished dinner hours ago and were busily cleaning up. The house was filled with young children and the TV was blaring Hotel for Dogs. There were alot of people there, mostly military families. The three men that were there had recently come back from Afghanistan and Iraq after multiple tours of being away.

At one point our friend’s husband offered to help the ladies in the kitchen with the dishes and everyone guffawed ‘the WARRIOR wants to help with the dishes!’.

Kea’s food looked fantastic. We were able to have some of her apple pie, pumpkin mousse, and home made sorbet.

She was very kind to pack up a little bit of everything she made and the next day we were able to have a whole Thanksgiving meal for lunch.

This is the first of a series of articles looking at the career, influence and legacy of wrestling

This is the first of a series of articles looking at the career, influence and legacy of wrestling’s most influential character, Vince McMahon.

There can surely be no more controversial figure in the history of professional wrestling than Vincent Kennedy McMahon. According to his own company, WWE, Vince is responsible for everything good and successful in professional wrestling or, as they would have it, sports-entertainment, today. On the other hand, many outside the company blame him for more or less everything wrong with the business today. Either way, almost all agree that his mark on this business is truly indelible. Getting to the heart of the real Vince is, however, extremely difficult. He doesn’t give a huge amount of interviews – he probably doesn’t have the time – and he is never unguarded in his public comments. Most, if not all of what we hear said about him is said by someone with a vested interest in attacking or defending him, which makes it hard to be sure what is accurate. Finally, no one in wrestling is harder to distinguish from their on-screen, in-ring persona.

Being the son of Vincent J McMahon and the grandson of Jesse McMahon, it might have been thought more or less inevitable that Vince would end up promoting wrestling. Yet, in fact he did not even meet his father until he was twelve years old, and it took him much, much longer to persuade Vince senior to let him into the business. It was not until 1971, when Vince was in his mid-twenties that he promoted his first card. It was also in that year that he began the job that would first make him recognisable to the general public, that of play by play announcer. It was not until 1982 that Vince actually bought the company from his father who, by this point, was in poor health.

The next few years are a key part of one of the most often told stories in wrestling, the collapse of the territories. In a nutshell, wrestling at this time was, and had been for decades, a regional business, with promoters each sticking to their own territory. Vince’s territory was New York and it was perfectly usual for wrestlers to refer simply to “New York” when they meant “World Wrestling Federation”. There were many other promoters with their own territories: Sam Muchnick in St Louis, Verne Gagne’s AWA based in Minneapolis, Jim Crockett in the Carolinas and so on. Many of these promotions were part of a group called the NWA (National Wrestling Alliance) which simply meant that, in addition to their own regional champions, they recognized an overall NWA World Champion who moved between the various NWA territories, defending his title against each area’s local favourite. The exceptions were Gagne’s AWA and Vince’s World Wrestling Federation, who recognized their own world champions.

Almost as soon as he became owner of the then WWF, Vince began attacking this model. The territory system had worked well for years but Vince realised that he could make his federation a national, rather than regional, institution. Vince began sending tapes of his product to TV stations around the country, touring outside his usual regional boundaries and hiring top talent away from other promotions, not just to strengthen his own product but also deliberately to weaken them. Many old-schoolers within the business were appalled at what Vince was doing. He was gambling big, spending money to make money and, if he failed he would face ruin. The prize, however, was that the World Wrestling Federation could become big, so big that it would transcend anyone’s ideas of what a wrestling promotion could, or should, be.

Vince’s biggest gamble was Wrestlemania and it paid off big-time. His use of mainstream celebrities helped attract a wide audience to the company and the event was broadcast nationally. Vince’s partnership with Dick Ebersol got the WWF on to NBC, and his instant adoption of the new medium of pay per view gave him more nationally broadcast events and a whole new way of making money. One by one, the regional promotions began to disappear. It is arguably only because of the intervention of Ted Turner that Vince did not entirely conquer North American wrestling back then. Even so, by the beginning of the ‘90s, a multitude of regional promotions had been replaced by two credible national promotions, WCW (Turner’s World Championship Wrestling), born out of the old NWA, and the WWF.

Vince has come under heavy criticism, both at the time and to this day, for “destroying the territories”. It is true that this has had unforeseen negative effects, primarily due to the fact that it is harder for young wrestlers to break into the business and get the experience they need nowadays. Back then, if a rookie wrestler stank in the ring it wasn’t necessarily fatal; he could learn from his mistakes and move on to a new territory, where a new audience would see him as the finished article. These days, if a young wrestler stinks on national TV practically the entire wrestling audience sees him do so and his career can be pretty much over before it has really had a chance to begin. However, the people who blame Vince for this situation need to recognise some other factors.

The United States was not the only country that ran wrestling in this regional way; through the fifties, sixties and seventies British wrestling was organised in exactly the same way. However, even without Vince McMahon, this model began to break down at more or less the same time. Throughout history, the local gives way to the regional, the regional to the national, the national to the international. This is a natural effect born of improvements in transport, communication and technology, although every generation bemoans what they lose as if it is happening for the first time. Wrestling was no more immune to this than any other facet of society. Sooner or later the change from regional to national was coming; if it hadn’t been Vince, it would have been someone else.

Secondly, the other promoters did not go out of business because Vince didn’t play fair but simply because they did not fight him effectively. Several of them, initially, had the base and resources to compete with Vince on the new national battlefield he was drawing up, Gagne and Crockett especially. Instead they chose to fight him in their own backyards, on a regional basis. Eventually, Gagne went out of business, Crockett sold up to Turner. Had Vince been ruthless and acquisitive? Of course he had – hardly sins in the business world. When he ran the first Survivor Series he wasn’t just creating a new pay per view to boost his own income, he was deliberately sabotaging the 5th Starrcade, Crockett’s first pay per view offering. That was ruthlessness, plain and simple.

Vince was also innovative, though. He was making money in ways his rivals hadn’t even thought of. Who else in wrestling had an animated cartoon show? Vince was putting WWF images, and Hulk Hogan’s image in particular, on everything under the sun and this was having a twofold effect. Not only did it make the WWF more and more money, it made the word wrestling almost synonymous with WWF and Hulk Hogan in the minds of the wider public. Everywhere the public turned, they saw Hulk Hogan and the WWF. The WWF became more than just a wrestling company – they were a brand of children’s entertainment competing with He-Man, Superman, the A-Team, Indiana Jones and everyone else in all the same ways: computer games, toys, lunch boxes, t-shirts and anything else one could think of.

Critics would point out that the wrestling in Vince’s federation was slow, plodding and technically poor compared to many of the old territories. They were missing the point; Vince was no longer competing with other wrestling promotions, he was competing with everyone who wanted a piece of the American family’s dollar. In the long run, Vince may have been creating problems for the wrestling business in the future but at the time, the eighties were a period of unbridled success for him, and the wrestling business had been raised to unimaginable new heights.

A day or so ago we put up a rather frightening pic of some RSPCA “officers” Paramilitary People, which got some comments.

Now I find theres lots of people upset with and aghast at the RSPCA, some of them write over here. I didn’t know that, I thought I was the only one, and a pariah.

The comments say about some other places containing browned-off folks who lament the turnning of this once-useful org into what its become. It does not seem a very libertitarian organisatin.

UNITE, the “Fighting Union for Fast Food & Retail Workers” is currently representing a group of workers in three Bakers Delight stores in the northern suburbs of Melbourne.

The UNITE website reports that “Their (Bakers Delight) employer is attempting to get through a workplace agreement that does away with many retail award entitlements.”

UNITE is in the process of informing local residents of what was going on by handing out leaflets, their blog site and now by organising a public rally that will take place today .

The details are: 3pm Wednesday 4th November @ St Helena Marketplace, 214 Aqueduct Road St Helena

They would really appreciate your support!

For those who have been following Bakers Delight behaviour over the years, you will know that this is not unusual behaviour from this franchisor. In 2006 there was the case of 15 year old Deanna Renella in South Australia who took Bakers Delight to the Industrial Relations court where it was found that she had been paid 25% below the Award. rate. Bakers Delight Appealed that decision, and lost.

In a 2007 media Release, the Australia’s Workplace Ombudsman Nicholas Wilson said “It is about time Bakers Delight Holdings took some responsibility for their franchisees awareness of their obligations to their workers under workplace law. We are happy to work with Bakers Delight Holdings to assist them to achieve this outcome.”

The Workplace Ombudsman finalised investigations into alleged breaches of workplace laws including claims of underpayment of entitlements by Bakers Delight franchises across Australia in 2006 and in the first half of 2007.

The media report states: “In 2006 the Workplace Ombudsman finalised investigations into seven separate Bakers Delight franchises in Victoria, Western Australia, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia and the Australian Capital Territory.

In 2007 (the first half of the year) investigations were finalised into eleven separate Bakers Delight franchises in Queensland, New South Wales, South Australia, Victoria and Western Australia.”

Perhaps it is time for the Ombudsman to revisit Bakers Delight.

Read former franchisee, Deanne de Leeuw’s, story and see how Bakers Delight deals with franchisees who stand up for young workers who have been paid incorrectly.

It is unrealistic to expect individual nations to make, independently, the sacrifices necessary to conserve energy. International leadership and worldwide cooperation are essential if we expect to protect the world’s energy resources for future generations.”

Discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the opinion stated above. Support your views with reasons and/or examples from you own experience, observations, or reading.

Response:

Energy conservation is a global issue and I don’t completely agree with the above perspective on this issue. While International leadership is needed to initiate the effort and create awareness it is difficult to imagine how worldwide cooperation will help to solve this issue better.

It is usually true that when a problem daunts a group of people together, it is usually more effective in solving it when the group makes a collective effort towards the issue resolution. But in this case when its not just groups of people but nations that are involved, the matter gets more complicated that it might appear on the first glance.

All nations of the world are sovereign. Every country has its on demand for energy and they work in their own unique combination of constraints. In such a scenario it becomes evident that the set of rules that might appear just for once country may seem completely irrational for another. For instance, for a huge nation like US that has primarily an industrial economy and a small nation like Nepal, which has an agrarian economy, if both are required to cut down their energy consumption by 5%, both will be faced with entirely different set of challenges. Thus a common rule cannot be set for all the countries. On the other instance if an international awareness is created about the energy crisis and ways to cut down on energy consumption each nation may formulate its own strategy that is best suited for that nation to conserve energy.

Thus, it is more realistic to think that since the problem looms over the future of all the nations, if provided with right knowledge, every nation will try to deals with it through a strategy that best works for that nation rather than an international leadership imposing a common strategy that may or may not be effective for a given nation.

In some countries, television and radio programs are carefully censored for offensive language and behavior. In other countries, there is little or no censorship.

In your view, to what extent should government or any other group be able to censor television or radio programs? Explain, giving relevant reasons and/or examples to support your position.

Response:

I don’t believe that government or a specific group playing censorship on television or radio helps the society in any way and thus there should be no censorship on television or radio by any organization.

It is a widespread belief that the more you expose the human brain to a particular stimulus, the more it gets attuned to it. The more the brain assimilates the idea, the higher are the chances of it being influenced by the idea and thus associating the idea more closely to real life. With that said, the idea of government or specific group censoring radio or television program appears meaningful as it would save the society from getting driven into a fictional idea that would be inappropriate in real social life. But this is just a part of the picture. Another well-studied aspect of human behavior is – curiosity about a prohibited piece of information is often compelling enough to drive the individual to somehow acquire that piece of information by all means possible. In the current information age it is not difficult to imagine that any censored information can be retrieved from over internet by one means or another. To add to it, the curiosity for the censored information also aids in faster and stronger assimilation of the censored idea once procured as mind is in a highly active and receptive state.

Thus, the idea of media censorship that would have worked a decade back, is now rendered futile in the information age. In the age where all information is readily available over internet, it makes more sense for an organization to not get into an easier looking option to impose censorship, rather make all content freely available to public, but with proper labels and classification about the content that piece of media may contain. Human beings as mature thinking minds, can exercise discretion on whether they are willing to be exposed to a specific category of content or not. This again leaves a flaw where young immature minds which are not in a capacity to make a proper judgment about their action can get exposed to a piece of media irrelevant to their level of maturity, but that boils down to the process of growth and education. Young minds need to be educated so that they are able to make the most appropriate decisions for themselves.

So with the above perspective, it is easy to understand how no censorship over media will actually work better than an imposed and censored media.
