Hey! Who remembers the plot to Beverley Hills Cop? Answer = No-one! For those who want to know it was something to do with Eddie Murphy (Axel Foley) solving the murder of a long time friend set in…you guessed it Beverley Hills.

“Axel F“ was the electronic instrumental theme from the 1984 film and was performed by Harold Faltermeyer. The title comes from, I kid you not, the main character’s name, Axel Foley (played by – that’s right, Eddie Murphy). Listen to the original below or watch the video here.

aintitcoolnews.com You’ve likely already heard that the former (played by Judge Reinhold) will return (and I won’t say what he’ll be getting up to in this one), but you may be surprised to hear that John Ashton’s being coaxed back to play the character he retired after ‘’Beverly Hills Cop II” (1987).
[EDIT]
…Ashton is definitely wanted back for ‘’Beverly Hills Cop 4’’. Taggart might no longer be on the beat (he, as we learnt in the last film, had retired) but he definitely has a part to play in the upcoming Brett Ratner-directed sequel.

As pumped as I am about this I have to be a little cautious for one reason…whenever you see these three words together, “Brett-Ratner-Director” you can’t let your hopes get too high. Here is a brief list of Ratner’s classic films…Money Talks, X-Men: The Last Stand, Rush Hour 1-2-3, The Family Man, Red Dragon. Red Dragon gives me some hope cuz that was a pretty solid flick, but if he turns Axel Foley into fucking Chris Tucker from Rush Hour I’m gonna be pissed off…so lets hope Ratner can put a lid on his campiness and make a badass 4th installment of Beverly Hills Cop.

There’s no release date announced.

(H.A) Calma baby! CHIIIVRUAAAKSKSKSKSK!

Oh man… I woke up on Sunday and looked out into smog heaven. The sun was shining, the weather was superb, and I didn’t EVER want it to end. We spent most of the day driving around, seeing the sights. We checked out Grauman’s Chinese Theatre- the most famous theater in the world! It’s on Hollywood Blvd. Lots of things are located there, so going up and down was a trip. You have stars everywhere on the ground, so that was cool trying to find where your favorite celebrity was. Same for the theater…. there’s hand/footprints of all kinds of celebs across the entryway to the theater.

I was amazed at just how many people flock to Hollywood as tourists… There’s all kinds of places to shop along the strip (along with all those pesky billboards, lol), people handing out mixtapes, product samples, or just asking for change. One thing about Hollywood Blvd is the street characters. Spiderman, Chucky, Capt. Jack Sparrow, Michael Jackson, Wonder Woman, and of course, the original, Superman. A couple of months ago, I got ‘Confessions of a Superhero‘ sent to me via netflix. It profiles 4 street actors in and out of their costumes. Tremendous look into the lives of people just trying to make it in Los Angeles. One of the characters, Superman (Christopher Dennis) is probably the most famous of the characters. So as we’re walking down Hollywood Blvd, I see him and have to gush about seeing the movie (which he promptly pulls out of his utility belt) and wishing him luck in the future. I did not, however, pay him to take a picture with me, lol.

We stopped for lunch at Stefano’s 2 Guys from Italy pizza shop. Had lots of options to choose from for toppings, NY style, thin crust pizza, super greasy. The place was a fucking dump, but I guess that’s when you know the food tastes good. Seeing as how many people move through there because of how busy the street is, you have to get a token to use the bathroom (Euro style). So you would think that if you have to pay to use the bathroom, it would be pretty decent. Before my friend went to potty, one of the bathrooms started to overflow and the toilet water was seeping out from under the door, yuck! The lasting memory from Stefano’s though, was watching Capt. Jack Sparrow (the street performer) sitting at the table next to us, playing Megatouch. Some things never change!

So after lunch, we did a little more driving around. Saw the Beverly Hilton, saw the Beverly Hills police station (shouts to Axel Foley!), then headed south to Newport Beach to meet up with my friends Jeff, Vanessa, and Tony. We rolled into the Newport Beach Brewing Company (Brewco) and slammed on some enchiladas while catching up. Jeff came to Cleveland by way of Michigan, then wound up moving to Newport Beach. Vanessa and Tony are from Cleveland and made the move west some time ago. It was actually Vanessa’s second time moving out to Cali. After rocking the OC, we headed back home because we had a date with Banana Split Sundae’s, co-hosted by Steve Aoki and DJ AM at AM’s club, LAX. I had this idea that the place was gonna be decked out, Vegas style… I mean, AM is a HUGE name and I knew it was a scenester spot, but for what I saw in there, I’ll take Mercury Lounge any day!

Kat and I were enjoying the sounds of Tina T, then LAX’s resident dj, Mike B hit the decks. The music was badass…. Apl.de.ap from the Black Eyed Peas was in the building as well as Redfoo from LMFAO. He’s a very quiet guy surprisingly. I heard from my dj friends that he’s Berry Gordy’s son or something and he’s been in the LA scene for years. So everyone in LA has known LMFAO since way before they were ‘In Miami Bitch.’ I ran into my friend, and pro BMX rider, Austin Coleman randomly at the club. Even in LA, I can’t not run into someone I know, lol. Kat and I danced and danced, and ran into this guy David, who has a t-shirt company. Check out his company, davidndavid industries here.

That’s about it for Sunday night. The time change started to get to me a little bit so we decided to call it a night. Until next time…. In the meantime, check out pics 1-18 in my LA photo album here

Much rumour rising about Marvel adaptation Thor with Alexander Skarsgard being touted for the lead role. He brilliantly played Brad Colbert in David Simon and Ed Burns’ Generation Kill and is currently in Tru Blood. Separately to that, the film joined Captain America and The Avengers in being pushed back in the release schedules with 2011 now housing Thor, Captain America and Spiderman 4 within three months. In further Marvel news, Mickey Rourke has signed up for Iron Man 2 along with Scarlett Johansson, the latter replacing Emily Blunt as the Black Widow. As if not to be outdone, this week also saw rumours sparked of a possible reboot for the Fantastic Four series.

Juan Antonio Bayona, the director of the excellent The Orphanage, has reportedly been signed up to direct the third Twilight movie. This comes hot on the heels of previous rumours that Drew Barrymore was a candidate to helm the movie. I don’t care a huge amount, but if we are going to have to live with these movies for the coming two-and-a-half years, it would be nice to have some real talent behind the camera. Other reports though suggest that it will be directed by the other Weitz.

Sam Raimi’s return to the horror genre with Drag Me to Hell has a trailer; Axel Foley could die in Beverley Hills Cop 4; Nick Nolte and Tom Hardy will star in a mixed martial arts movie. Oh yeah!; Bryce Dallas Howard has expressed an interest in bringing the Luna Brothers’ The Sword to the screen; Heathers has been jumped into gear in musical form; Robin Hood has found his merry men.

I have a friend who recently posted a list from a website calling itself ‘Premier’ that

I have a friend who recently posted a list from a website calling itself ‘Premier’ that named ‘The 100 Greatest Movie Characters of All Time.’ He was shocked and appalled that Darth Vader was languishing at #84 on the list below such spares as Private Benjamin, Doctor Evil, The Dude, and a host of others. While I agreed that this was a travesty, I quickly noticed a few notable absences from the list, and the more I looked the more great characters were simply missing from the list, while others, such as Gollum were inexplicably placed near the top of the list.

This is where the obsessive compulsive part of my personality kicked in. I began to look at their list with a more critical eye. The fist thing I noticed was that some of the characters seemed to be shoe-horned into the list, and often these characters were female. I’m not trying to say that there are no great female characters in movie history, but it may be a fair indictment to accuse the industry for not writing strong female roles, especially in the early years of cinema, and perhaps just as much today. This may well be the case, but I don’t think the cure for it is to falsely elevate existing female roles above their actual station as ir appears that Premier did (Bonnie from Bonnie and Clyde and Private Benjamin a two good examples).

I further fed my obsession by attempting to think if all the good characters that they left off their list. I came up with another 109 examples, some more strong than others and quite a few whose omissions were simply egregious. Then, I sat down with all 209 names and made my own Top 100 Movie Characters of all Time list. The biggest deficiency of my list is the fact that I have not seen all of the old classics (though I am currently on a classic movie binge). Characters like Fred C. Dobbs of Treasure of the Sierra Madre and a few others may suffer unfairly because of this, but I have no regrets about leaving a character like Ninotchka off the list because I, my family and my friends have never heard of her (shoe-horned).

I tried to take several things into account. How well the character endures, how much effect the character has had on popular culture, the importance of the character and whether that role or the movie it was associated with received awards while it was out. Accepting the possible shortcomings and the obvious advantages of my list, I am putting it out, and still argue that it is much better than the list provided by Premier. Enjoy.

This bad ass works the Zombie Squad, he solved the “Night Slasher” case and single handedly brought down the infamous “New Order” street gang. He tells the boss to eat shit, fucks the hottie in witness protection and kills 90 ax-wielding psychopaths within 85 minutes. I’d want him with me if shit got crazy.

Weapon: 1911 Colt .45
Car: 1950 Mercury (Silver)
What
Worries Me: Absolutely nothing, he takes care of his own.
Classic Line: “You’re the disease and I’m the cure”.

9. Detective Axel Foley – BEVERLY HILLS COP

Axel

Good Ole Axel Foley came out from the mean streets of Detroit to solve the homicide of his best friend Mikey Tandino. While in Beverly Hills he shows the local police force what Detroit muscle, cop instinct and outlandish impersonations can really do. He doesn’t quit and he’ll make you laugh if the chips are down.

Weapon: Something silver that looks cool on the poster.
Car: Fire Engine Red Ferrari
What Worries Me: Getting my cop car stolen and losing my job because of his hi-jinx.
Classic line: “You’re not going to fall for the banana in the tailpipe? It should be more natural, brother. It should flow out, like this – “Look, man, I ain’t fallin’ for no banana in my tailpipe!”

8. Sergeant Frank Drebin Detective Lieutenant Police Squad – THE NAKED GUN

Frank Drebin In Action

With the longest job title in cop history Frank falls in at number 8. Shoot first and ask questions later. Frank has an illustrious career in Police Squad, he once saved the life of Queen Elizabeth II, shut down Vincent Ludwig’s band of roving assassins and foiled Quentin Hapsburg’s plans to rid the world of clean energy. Over the course of his career he’s tangled ass with OJ Simpson, Anna Nicole Smith, and Weird Al Yankovic – all controversial in their own ways.

Weapon: His wits & a snub nose .38
Car: Lime Green four door unmarked sedan.
What
Worries Me: During lunch he’d probably forget me at the deli and drive off. By the time he’d remember I was no longer with him the movie would be over.
Classic Lines: “Let’s pull out the cotton and get straight to the aspirin.”
“You played me like a violin at the annual saps convention.”
“Well, when I see five weirdos dressed in togas, stabbing a man in the middle of the park in front of a full view of 100 people, I shoot the bastards, that’s my policy.”
“I’m Lt. Frank Drebin! Police Squad! And don’t ever let me catch you guys in America!”
“You’re part of a dying breed, Hapsburg, like people who can name all fifty states!”
“There she was, just as I remembered her. That delicately beautiful face. And a body that could melt a cheese sandwich from across the room. And breasts that seemed to say…”Hey! Look at these!” She was the kind of woman who made you want to drop to your knees and thank God you were a man! She reminded me of my mother, all right. No doubt about it.”

7. Jake Gittes – CHINATOWN

Forget it Jake, it's Chinatown....

Well let’s face it, Jake really isn’t all that great a detective, but what he lacks in natural instinct he more than makes up for in cool Private Eye tricks and funny “Chinamen” jokes. He falls victim to the oldest trick in the book and gets caught up emotionally with the woman who ultimately gets shot through the eye for her troubles. He doesn’t really do a good job of protecting her. And the greatest line of the movie isn’t even said by him. Regardless he’s a smart ass and a ladies man and an ex-cop and I enjoy watching him do his thing.

Car – An old ass one.
Weapon – His Penis.
What Worries Me – I’d get hurt just for standing next to him. He’d probably stick me with the check at a restaurant while he puts the moves on the coat check girl.
Classic Lines: “You’re dumber than you think I think you are.”
“Let me explain something to you, Walsh. This business requires a certain amount of finesse.”
Jake Gittes: “Mulvihill! What are you doing here?”
Mulvihill: “They shut my water off. What’s it to you?”
Jake Gittes: “How’d you find out about it? You don’t drink it; you don’t take a bath in it… They wrote you a letter. But then you have to be able to read.
”
“But, Mrs. Mulwray, I goddamn near lost my nose. And I like it. I like breathing through it. And I still think you’re hiding something.”

6. Detective Jack Cates – 48 HOURS

Nothing like drawing down on a lady holding a grocery bag.

Another one that takes place in San Francisco. Jack Cates is a drunken, dirty, foul-mouthed copper in The City By The Bay. He bends the rules so much there’s no way a police force on Earth would keep him on for more than a few hours. But he gets results and that’s all that matters in down and dirty police work. He brandished a firearm in the face of an elderly Asian woman, repeatedly beat prisoners in custody, throws the word “fuck” around like a champ, beat up a shitload of country boys in a hick bar. He abuses the badge constantly to get out of parking tickets or intimidate bystanders. His gun gets stolen and he simply doesn’t report it, even though it’s used to commit a string of murders. He eventually gets it back when he shoots his prisoner through the shoulder to kill the bad guy. He’s the man no if, ands, or buts about it. He killed Ganz and he solved the Iceman case, need I say more?

Car: Sky Blue Cadillac DeVille
Weapon: .357 Magnum (stolen) moves on to a Colt .45
What Worries Me: Often uses violence to prove his point and would most likely often challenge me to fist fights to settle minor arguments. Also his blatant racism might give people the wrong idea about me. (I prefer to keep my racism more reserved)
Classic Lines: “This sucks! A maniac gets a hold of my gun and runs all over the streets killin’ people with it. So, instead of bein’ where I oughta be, home in bed with my gal givin’ her the high hard one, I’m out here doin’ THIS shit: roamin’ around the streets with an overdressed, charcoal-colored loser like you.”
“Who GIVES a goddamn what YOU like? You’re just a crook on a weekend pass! You’re not even a goddamn NAME anymore! You’re just a spearchucker with a number stenciled on the back of his prison fatigues! And I’m through fuckin’ around. You tell me the truth or you’re gonna get the living shit beat outta you.”
“Fuck you!”
“What are you smiling at, watermelon? Your big move just turned out to be shit.”
“I’ll file a report tomorrow.” (which never happens)
“Now, get this! We ain’t partners. We ain’t brothers. And we ain’t friends. I’m puttin’ you down and keepin’ you down until Ganz is locked up or dead. And if Ganz gets away, you’re gonna be sorry YOU ever MET me!”

5. Lieutenant Frank Bullitt – BULLITT

Bullitt

Why does all the cool shit seem to go down in San Francisco? It’s a goddamn cop/private eye paradise over there! There’s cases for miles, I don’t know how anyone can relax with so much testosterone flying around. Anyways, Frank Bullitt is nothing short of a bad ass. First off he’s Steve McQueen (The Tao of Steve) and Steve McQueen is the man, I mean did you’all see The Getaway?! The dude fucked Ali McGraw (in real life) when she was super hot!, check it out:
He stole her from Mega Producer Robert Evans! He’s my fucking hero. But as Bullitt he’ll smack the shit out of you, steal your woman, out think you, out race you, out shoot you, and out and about make you feel like a big fat ass loser.

Car: 1968 Ford Mustang (Highland Green)
Weapon: 6 Shot Chiefs Special (revolver)
What Worries Me: Jack Shit.
Classic Lines: “Look, you work your side of the street, and I’ll work mine.”
“Look, Chalmers, let’s understand each other… I don’t like you.”
Bullitt: “You sell whatever you want, but don’t sell it here tonight.”
Chalmers: “Frank, we must all compromise.”
Bullitt: “Bullshit. Get the hell out of here, now.”

4. Sam Spade – THE MALTESE FALCON
Now that his partner Miles Archer is dead, the doors and windows of Spade & Archer Private Investigators have changed to just plain “Spade”. Visible behind Sam’s desk is the lovely Bay Bridge bathed in fog, signifying what? That’s right folks San Francisco strikes again! That place is on fire! Sam is a master of playing murderous thieves against each other and in the end he avenges his partner’s death and remains the only member of the cast not “fucked for life”. He’s my hero and never has to shoot anyone. He tricks them into digging their own graves.

Weapon: His mind.
Car: San Francisco Yellow Taxi Service
What Worries Me: He’d screw me over and send me up the river and by the time I realized it-it would be too late.
Classic Lines: “The cheaper the crook, the gaudier the patter.”
“You know, that’s good, because if you actually were as innocent as you pretend to be, we’d never get anywhere.”
“When you’re slapped, you’ll take it and like it.”
“I hope you’re not letting yourself be influenced by the guns these pocket edition desperados are waving around, because I’ve practiced taking guns from these boys before so we’ll have no trouble there”.
“When a man’s partner is killed, he’s supposed to do something about it. It doesn’t make any difference what you thought of him. He was your partner and you’re supposed to do something about it. And it happens we’re in the detective business. Well, when one of your organization gets killed, it’s-it’s bad business to let the killer get away with it, bad all around, bad for every detective everywhere.”
“It’s the stuff that dreams are made of.”

3. Special Agent Will Graham – MANHUNTER

The Manhunter himself

The Motherfucker caught Hannibal fucking Lector. There’s nothing more to say. (except that he went from a beach to blowing away the Tooth Fairy serial killer in two hours flat)

Weapon: .44 Revolver.
Car: FBI Helicopter
Worries: Doesn’t play well with others, he’s very internal and I fear that he wouldn’t be very funny to talk to during down time. Sure he’s smart as a whip and could probably solve whatever case I’d need him to in about 5 minutes, but who’s gonna laugh at my off-color remarks?
Classic Lines: “As a child, my heart bleeds for him. Someone took a little boy and turned him into a monster. But as an adult… as an adult, he’s irredeemable. He butchers whole families to fulfill some sick fantasy. As an adult, I think someone should blow the sick fuck out of his socks.”
Will Graham: “I know that I’m not smarter than you.” Doctor Hannibal Lector: “Then how did you catch me? Will Graham: “You had disadvantages.” Doctor Hannibal Lector: “What disadvantages?” Will Graham: “You’re insane.”

2. Detective Lieutenant Vincent Hanna – HEAT

That’s right the bad ass who took down Neil McCauley and his whole fucking crew (minus Christopher) in Los Angeles. Previous credits include taking down Frankie Yonger in Chicago. Greatest quote about Hanna “He’s been married three times what do you think that means he likes staying at home?” – Nate. Hanna is a dedicated officer, out there in the trenches sniffing around. He’ll find the truth out one way or another. I’d want him with me if I was working a case close to my heart.

Weapon: 1911 Colt Commander .45
Car: Los Angeles Unmarked Ford Taurus
What Worries Me: Glory hog, loudest person in the room. I’d never get a word in edgewise.
Classic Lines: “Who? Who? What are you a fucking owl?”
“Empathy was yesterday. Today, you’re wasting my motherfucking time!”

1. Inspector Harry Callahan – DIRTY HARRY
He’s killed dozens of punks, he’s been threatened with suspension, he’s saved a bus load of children, ended the Dead Pool and put a stop to a band of rogue vigilante cops. And let’s face it, he fired a fucking rocket launcher on Alcatraz! He’s the Mack, plain and simple.
Weapon: .44 Magnum the most powerful handgun in the world and can take your head clean off.
Car: Whichever isn’t destroyed when the shooting stops.
What Worries Me: Every partner he’s ever had has died, as much as I’d want him on my case partnering up with him means certain death for me. It’d be worth it to cruise around the hilly streets of foggy San Fran riding shotgun with Inspector Callahan. Hopefully I’ll just get wounded.
Classic Lines: “I know what you’re thinking. “Did he fire six shots or only five?” Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you’ve got to ask yourself a question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?”
“A man’s got to know his limitations.”
“Speaking of whale shit, what have you turned up, Briggs?”

We get word today from slashfilm that Eddie Murphy will be retiring from movies and returning to the stage…

“I have close to 50 movies and it’s like, why am I in the movies?” he said, adding, “I’ve done that part now. I’ll go back to the stage and do standup.”

Murphy, 47, said that while a “Beverly Hills Cop 4″ flick was in the works, he didn’t want to do it, because “the movie wasn’t ready to be done.”

I made a post a couple weeks back about Murphy and my “Motivational Minute” concerning his extreme rise back to the top of the big screen… Did he read it? that would be cool eh!!! any way i will be right behind him in this decision. I myself have not watched “Raw” or “Delirious” his two famous stand up acts, but i’ve heard they are ridiculously tastefully “Raw” and beautifuly funny. Maybe he could come back to the big screen, when the script and story is right for him, but i think a break may be a good thing.. Especially with the atrocious looking ”Meet Dave” coming out within the next year. Kudos to you Mr. Murphy… Kudos to you… What do you think about his possible retirement?

Patti LaBelle feat. Desiree Coleman – Stir it Up

1 – In the massive upswing of sequels, it was only a matter of time until they hit something I

1 – In the massive upswing of sequels, it was only a matter of time until they hit something I really hold dear. Beverly Hills Cop is one of my favorite comedies and it holds so many great peaks for R-rated laughers along with being the beginning of a possibly legendary career for Eddie Murphy. It’s not really a big surprise that Eddie would want to jump back into the role of Axel Foley, but take my word, the only way this will work is if they get the old Eddie back. No PG-13 rating here. We need swearing, cocky, abrasive Axel Foley once again. If they follow through on that, I might just start playing the theme song once again as my alarm clock. [via Perez]

2 – Turning from sequels, we go to the only logical place, prequels. J.K. Rowling said she would not continue any more books in the Harry Potter series, but she never said anything about going backwards. She wrote a prequel novel for the Potter-verse, but this is only going to sold for charity in an auction, no mass publication will be done. As gracious as this is, and I am sure it will pull in a healthy amount of Euros, I feel bad for the house that will inevitably get broken into by a mob of crazed quidditch players in search of the mythical tome. [via Starpulse]

3 – I’ve heard rumblings through my group of friends that I should start paying attention to the Fox TV starlet show, The Sarah Connor Chronicles. I usually would have been glued to this already by the casting choice of Summer Glau, but something kept me from feeling totally committed to it. Now they sweetened the pot by dropping in Shirley Manson, the lead singer of Garbage, for next season. Hello TiVo, goodbye productivity. [via ComingSoon]

4 – Is it possible the Coen Brothers will ever make a normal movie? I doubt it sincerely. Here’s a link to the Red-Band trailer for their next ecclectic collection of actors in Burn After Reading. [via WWTDD]

5 – This might actually crack a smile on the faces of all those dark, black nailed little girls in the world. Their heroine, Emily the Strange, is on her sad and angry way to the screen. Something tells me a PG rating for this is not forthcoming. [via ComingSoon]

6 – So a couple of teenage girls blatantly stole $150 from a 9-year-old girl scout who was selling those painfully addicting cookies. Two things are wrong with the video here; first, these girls have no concept of morality and a frightening absence of realization of their own effect on the world around them, secondly, these girls are obviously not right in the head because they stole the money and not the cookies. Seriously, they are like crack cookies! [via Today's Big Thing]

7 – Hopefully you haven’t tossed your computer out the window after watching that last scarred piece of humanity, but if you are lucky enough to keep your revulsion in check, here is your reward. You see, there are still some decent people in this place.
8 – Sometimes, just sometimes, they get something so painfully right. I have no idea if the movie is going to be any good at all, but I hope they keep making these videos, because they are certainly worth the entire movie’s budget.
Great Scott! Los Angeles woke up this morning to discover that Universal Studios was on fire! Among the sets and buildings lost – the iconic courthouse square from “Back to the Future.” But what’s the big deal – all you need is a De Lorean, a flux capacitor, and 1.21 gigawatts of power, and you can go back in time to stop the fire from ever starting! And you can get the power when that lightning bolt strikes the old clock tower….WHICH HAS BEEN DAMAGED IN THE FIRE!! GREAT SCOTT!!!

While we figure out where to get a new power supply, enjoy these bonus jokes from our Big News writers. And speaking of going back in time – starting June 8, Big News is one hour earlier – a brand new show every Sunday night at 9!!!!

Another Beverly Hills hit is making a comeback.

On the heels of the successful revival of the “Indiana Jones” franchise, Paramount Pictures has set in motion a fourth instalment of “Beverly Hills Cop”, with Eddie Murphy on board to once again portray Axel Foley.

The 47-year-old actor will return to his role as the Detroit detective after 14 years.

The sequel reprises the hit film about a black, US east coast policeman’s misadventures in the posh and laid-back Beverly Hills.

“Beverly Hills Cop 4” is scheduled to begin production next year in anticipation of a summer 2010 release.

According to reports, it was Murphy’s idea to revive the film series.

The original “Beverly Hills Cop”, released in 1984, grossed US$316 million worldwide and spawned two sequels. Together, the three films grossed some US$713 million dollars worldwide.

The first and second films were lucrative, but the last instalment in 1994 was a critical and commercial flop, limping only to earn slightly more than US$40 million domestically.

Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced the original “Beverly Hills Cop” trilogy with late partner Don Simpson, will not be actively involved in the new film.

However, Lorenzo di Bonaventura, the man who brought us “Transformers”, will return as producer. Brett Ratner, whose previous credits include “X Men: The Last Stand” and the “Rush Hour” action trilogy, is in negotiations to direct.

You can catch Murphy in a number of upcoming films like “Meet Dave” and “NowhereLand” before “Beverly Hills Cop 4” hits theatres.
