strange yet interesting stuff going on this video, although song not my cup of tea.

I showed up on Friday night after leaving 84 degree weather to a snowy city and took my suitcase into a speakeasy. Because that’s how Ms. Beckarina Gligooooo and I roll! Within five minutes I had a double Jack and diet in front of me and was yelling “I fucking love you” to the wonderful guy who had decided to do karaoke to Beastie Boys “Paul Revere”. This was proceeded by me being pulled up on a stage by 6 guys I didn’t know to sing Def Leppard’s “Pour Some Sugar On Me” because, even though they didn’t know the words, I can sing that shit with a bottle of Jack in me and never miss a beat. That’s my jam! The night ended with me reading tarot to Becky and her co-workers and swaying affirmations of “That was amazing. Seriously. That was amazing.” I’m a regular spirit sherpa (it also produced a picture of greatness):

Saturday night wasn’t any more well-behaved. We met up with Sir Chad at Big City Tap and at 12:30 the place was quiet enough that there was one REALLY drunk guy on the dance floor doing that whole jump over your own leg thing and doing the worm (which really was him lying down face first on what was probably a dirty floor and moving every 30 seconds or so). He then did a headstand which I just had to get on film:

Within 20 minutes this place was packed to the gills and you couldn’t even get on the dance floor so well done to that drunk sir for utilizing his dance floor time effectively. Sir Chad’s friends were lovely by the way and I didn’t have to buy a drink the whole night – my kind of people Chad and I got into an intense discussion as to why my tattoo was better than the drunk bachelorette who had a lame butterfly tattooed on her back and why women love hanging out with gay guys so much. Glad to be of help educating you Sir.

After a 4 a.m. sleepytime we then decided to follow it up with bottomless mimosas ALL DAY Sunday. Because that’s what you do! Ridiculous in hindsight but for $14.50 would you say no? Work the next day was a long hard slog but I fell in love with that city and all its crazy busy-ness and propensity to not close down. LOVE. IT. Who knows, that might be a new address for me in the future.

I came back to a whole bunch of new music in my in box with the new Daft Punk single in all of its glory being the big one:

I have a feeling this one is going to be an earworm that I’ll find myself dancing down the hallways in work to if for nothing else because I’m bored.

Beginning with an electric 30 second intro, “Discover Channel” soon flows into a realm built on adventure and revelations. With smooth rhymes and hypnotizing instrumentals, the members of Rocky Business successfully create an enticing atmosphere that everyone can enjoy.

Acting as a siren with her whispery vocals on the chorus, Banks once again showcases how diverse of an artist she is capable of being. While normally Banks is either playful or vengeful, Rocky Business’ “Discover Channel” finds the rapper behaving more serene than scary. 

While Rocky Business may not be familiar to you now, after listening to “Discovery Channel” you’ll most definitely be left with a feeling of familiarity and trust.

This new Azealia Banks video is definitely one of the most exciting visuals I have seen in a while. The song is so out-of-this-space that I wasn’t quite sold when I heard it, but this video directed by Jam Sutton made it that much more cooler now.

I love music from Canadian indie-rock to Spanish pop, to basically anything from the US (because if you say the US doesn’t make the most & best music, you’re either uninformed or lying or ignorant).

Azealia Banks days of Twitter beefing may be over. The “212″ and “Yung Rapunxel” rapper tweeted that she had to “turn over her password” on Friday (it didn’t specify to whom).

It appears that Banks’ label may have had enough with her incessant Twitter fights as she wrote “My days of twitter terror are about to be over. I have to turn over my password.” The tweet has since been deleted.

Azealia has started social media feuds with Rita Ora, Baauer, Lil’ Kim, anyone who has ever been a member of, spoken to, or heard of the A$AP Mob, Perez Hilton and Angel Haze (just to name a few).

But I know conspiracy theorists and bible thumpers are going to have a field day with this one.

Ši savaitė buvo ne tik moterų reperių atradimas. Prie jų prisijungė vienas gan įdomus dainininkų susivienijimas ir į eterį grįžę Australai.

Numeris 1 šią savaitę yra Azealia Banks. 2011 skambiai įšokusi į muzikos pasaulį su daina 212 pasirodė esanti mergaitė su stuburu ir mokanti “užmušti” žodžiu. Tačiau ilga tyla jau kuždėjo, kad gal tai buvo tik vienkartinis sužibėjimas. Bet ne. Šią savaitę netikėtai “jūtūbindama” paspaudžiau ant dainos, kuri vadinosi “Yung Rapunxel”. Wow. Užkabino iš pirmo karto.

Nors daina skamba gan piktai, bet aš neįžvelgiu jokio pykčio. Klausydama šios dainos nekreipiu dėmesio į žodžius. Kartais rėkimas, net ne repavimas, atrodo taip ir skatina visas blogas emocijas eiti lauk. Čia man vienai taip? Reikia paklausyti pačiam ir įsitikinti.

P.S. labai silpnų skrandžių savininkams patarčiau žiūrėti atsargiau. Tos vietos, kur jai vietoj akių lūpos ir jos repuoja man kažkaip kelia skrandžio turinį atgal. Gal čia tik aš viena tokia jautri.

Numeris 2 priklauso jau minėtajai Iggy Azalea. Niekada nemaniau, kad australai moka repuoti, o australės ypač. Ji mane nustebino. Kaip jau rašiau pradžioje, šią dainą atradau jau senokai. Joje buvo kažkas, kas kabino, bet ne iki galo. Šią savaitę užkabino galutinai. Juk sakiau, kad reikia perklausyti kai kurias dainas n+1 kartą, kad jos galų gale patiktų.

Taigi mano dėmesio susilaukusi daina, turbūt jau ir taip aišku, yra “Work”. Ji pasakoja apie jauną merginą, kuri yra visiškai savarankiška ir būdama 16  be tėvų, be pažinčių ir be kitokių geradarių turi savo rankomis užsidirbti pragyvenimui. Viename interviu ji teigė, kad pirmuoju ši daina nors ir labai liūdna, įsigilinus į ją, tačiau jai ji labai artima. Klausom ir vertinam.

Don Diablo. Ne moteris ir ne reperė. Tačiau jo “sąjunga” su Kelis yra beveik į šios savaitės temą. Šiaip pamačius jo vardą pirma mintis kilo “Who the hell is that Don Diablo?” Gal kažkam atrodys juokinga, na bet tikrai nežinojau šito bičo. Pamačius jo vardą, maniau, kad eilinis juodaodis reperis, kurio dainos prasideda ir baigiasi pussexi scenom su pupom, o ten eigoj yra keli išrepuoti žodžiai.

Tai spėju kyla klausimas, ka išvis bandžiau klausyti tokią dainą, jei jau vien atlikėjo vardas kėlė įtartinai nemalonius jausmus? O gi trečiojo atlikėjo vardas ir pavardė – Alex Clare. Pasižymėjęs su daina “Too Close”, taip pat dainuodamas su Rudimental kažkaip gavo iš manęs nemažai karmos taškų. Taigi va, užkabinta Alex’o vardo išdrįsau perklausyti šią dainą. OMG. Love at first sight! Nenoriu net komentuoti. reikia tik klausyti, klausyti, klausyti.

Ir galiausiai šią savaitę mano atradimų topą užbaigia Empire of the Sun. Australų duetas, labai stipriai sublizgėjęs su “We Are the People”, kurią įsimylėję buvo 80 % mano draugų, ir paskui dingę daugiau nei 2 metams kažkur. Nepasakyčiau, kad jų naujasis hitas “Discovery” yra kažkuo labai ypatingas ar kabinantis. Na bet dėl to, kad jie grįžo, verti kelių sakinių mano atradimų sąraše.

Dar vienas paskutinis pastebėjimas. Jau nuo praėjusių metų pavasario pastebėjau, kad pasaulį veža tokios dainos, kur jie “ni***uja” nieko nesupranta, nes dainuoja kažkokia čiukčių kalba. Pavyzdžiui Michael Telo “Ai Se Eu Te Pego” (portugališkai), Tavata Bro “Tacata” (berods itališkai), Don Omar “Danza Kuduro” (ispaniškai) ir žinoma PSY “Gangman Style”. Taigi vat, šią svaaitę čiukčių čiukčius PSY grįžo su savo naujuoju hitu “Gentleman”, kuris per pirmasias dienas sumušė visus žiūrėjimo rekordus. Susipažinkit. Nuo savo nuomonės susilaikysiu. Gal netyčia šį įrašą kada perskaitys koks didžiulis jo fanas ir užsitrauksiu didžiulę rūstybę…

The micro-news behemoth has jumped into the music game. So, what’s in it for you?

Today, Twitter finally rolled out its new music app, which is called Twitter #music. The company’s ambitions are predictably grand, calling the app ”a new service that will change the way people find music, based on Twitter.” As a streaming songs and discovery service, they are entering a crowded and growing field, one that leaves users with various similar options. Let’s try and figure out how Twitter #music differentiates itself.

How does Twitter #music work?

Twitter #music has five tabs for exploration: “Popular,” which collects music that is trending on Twitter; “Emerging,” which promises “hidden talent found in the tweets”; “Suggested,” which uses an algorithm to offer music it thinks you might be into; “#NowPlaying,” which displays music currently tweeted by people you follow, using that hashtag; and “Me,” which simply displays music by artists you follow. Clicking on a tile will play an artist’s song, and offer you more music to listen to, either by that specific artist or other similar artists.

Where can I get Twitter #music?

Twitter music is currently available on iPhones via the App Store, and mobile is where Twitter is really hoping their music service explodes. But there is also a web-based app, available atmusic.twitter.com. Twitter says that an Android app will be rolled out soon.

How is Twitter #music different than something like Spotify?

Twitter is smartly trying to put the information it collects from its massive database of 200 million users to work, and for that reason Twitter #music is more discovery-based than Spotify or Rdio. Twitter wants you to click around its app and discover new artists and songs — be it a song so popular you feel stupid for not knowing it, or an artist you’ve never heard of — which will allow it to hone its suggestions to you and users like you. It wants you to get lost in the app even if you weren’t searching for anything specific.

Is Twitter #music in competition with other services?

Not yet, at least. Twitter #music plays previews of songs via iTunes as its default setting, but Spotify or Rdio users can link with Twitter #music to hear full tracks through those services in the Twitter #music app.

Will Twitter #music actually help me discover new music?

That depends. It’s a service that is primarily geared to the casual listener, so music nerds may find less worth in it. It suggests artists like Fabolous, 2 Chainz, Meek Mill — major rap stars who have likely been heard by anyone with an interest in rap music — but also artists like Kilo Kish, Kano, and Little Dragon, who are not exactly underground, but at least a bit more unknown. Absolutely voracious music fans will probably still find themselves plumbing the depths of something like Spotify.

Which of Twitter #music’s features holds the most potential?

Either the “Suggested” or “Emerging” tabs, which do the most to expose users to artists or songs they may not have heard. Both have their biases — “Suggested” could go much deeper than it does, while “Emerging” currently offers mostly white people with guitars, even ones like the Appleseed Cast and the Pastels, who have long since “emerged” from wherever they came.

What’s wrong with the other features?

Well, the “Popular” tab barely varies from something like the popular charts on iTunes or Spotify, though acts such as Azealia Banks, Robin Thicke, and Little Mix manage to slip in amongst the usual suspects Pitbull and Taylor Swift. Otherwise, Twitter #music is highly dependent on active engagement with musicians on Twitter by you and the people you follow. If you only follow 20 musicians on Twitter or don’t have friends that actively tweet about what they’re listening to, the “#NowPlaying” and “Me” tabs will be very limited.

If I follow a musician on Twitter, why do I need an app to discover their music?

This is probably the most obvious piece of evidence that reveals Twitter #music as an app for Twitter users that aren’t voracious music listeners. If you follow a musician on Twitter and keep up with their work, or are aware of artists similar to those you follow on Twitter, than the app will hold less appeal to you than to others.

Does Twitter #music have potential?

Sure. If musicians begin to release music consistently via tweets, the “Me” tab could become a useful clearinghouse for new music you want to check for. The “Popular” tab also does attempt to quantify exactly which artists are the most popular on Twitter, which beforehand was a process that was decidedly more arduous. Also, as more people use Twitter #music, the app’s algorithms will improve.
