Hi guys! So I just got back home, about 30 minutes ago. In the morning I was really sad. I woke up at six(asked my mother to wake me) and when she was gone I really didn’t want to go. I felt sort of homesick already. I didn’t want to go to another City, far from my own house. And also because of the whole Portfolio thing. But, I printed out the 40% I was talking about in a previous post and waited for my schoolfriend. We left around 9:40 and we arrived in Utrecht at 11. 

When we went through the blistering cold and finally found the place, we couldn’t find the stands which sold what we needed: wax, wax strips and massage oil. It took us maybe 2 hours to find the right things. I bought some extra’s just to be sure I will be doing great on my exam. And that I at least can’t blame the products if anything goes wrong. As you can see I’ve bought five things.
- Wooden Spatulas, to apply wax on the armpits with. 
- Azulene Wax, to wax with of course. Mainly for the legs and arms. Azulene is for the sensitive skin and even though I might not have a model with a skin like that, for normal skintypes it’s always nice and gentle of course.
- Azulene after-waxing oil, this is also to calm the skin with(whether sensitive skin or normal skin). And it’s great to remove the remaining wax with(if there is any of course).
- Massage oil, I was really contemplating whether I should or shouldn’t buy this. I needed it. But at the same time: IT WAS EXPENSIVE!! More expensive than the wax. That only costed me 2.95, while the massage oil was 10.95! But I’ve taken it anyways.
- A plastic spatula and an entire roll of wax strips(you can cut them yourself). Why a plastic spatula? Because you need it to scoop out creams and milk and all with. It’s more hygienic that way. And I lost my previous plastic spatula, given to me by school. And of course the wax strips for the waxing. I needed this roll! I was really searching for them all over the place, and it was big! So when I finally found it, I didn’t care that it costed me 12.50. Besides, it’s a pretty good deal for 46 meters of strips.

So, that’s what I got myself and I’m really happy with it. I had just enough money to get to Utrecht and back to Rotterdam, and just enough to buy my products and tools with. I’m really proud of myself. This mission, is definately accomplished! So around 1:30 we went back to the central station of Utrecht and we took the train back to Rotterdam. When we got there, we finally went to Starbucks together. This was my first time going to Starbucks(SHAME ON ME, I KNOW!) and it was DE-LISH! I don’t know which one I had exactly but it was something with Caramel. You guys tell me what it’s called because I don’t know. I just told her: ‘a large one with caramel’ hahaha. 

You guys know which one this is called? I have no idea, just that it’s a large one with Caramel. Don’t ask me how I ordered it, ahaha. And I don’t know what the initials down on the cup mean. But it probably has something to do with whatever’s in it! Well, at least the girl behind the counter knew how to spell my name right She is the first stranger I know who spelled it right, so not how most strangers spell it: Naomie.

I’ve tried many other SPF moisturizers for sensitive skin. This one is probably the best that I’ve tried.

I have sensitive skin, and rosacea.

This moisturizer has a very pale green tint, but it absorbs quickly with no trace of white or green residue.

I would buy it again, and recommend it.

It’s time for everyone’s favorite topic: waxing! (Booooo!) It’s a necessary evil for some of us, and for those of us with sensitive, reactive skin it can be misery. If you think I’m being over dramatic, ask someone with reactive skin!

On a recent trip to a beauty supply shop I decided to pick up this kit by GiGi after reading about the benefits of blue wax for sensitive skin. The kit comes with a spatula, instructions and 1oz. of blue, stripless wax.

“GiGi Microwave Sensitive Skin Tweezeless Wax offers an easy way to remove unwanted facial hair in just seconds, providing your salon or spa with a great add-on service. The microwave formula melts in seconds, requires no muslin strips and leaves no residue on the skin. GiGi Microwave Sensitive Skin Tweezeless Wax contains Azulene to soothe even the most sensitive skin.”

You might have to play with the consistency and temperature before you get it right, but the results are worth it. Very little redness and no breakouts as long as you keep the skin clean. See, I think a lot of times the powder and gels and creams used to prep and then soothe waxed skin are what contribute to breakouts. So, this is my method.

PREP & DISINFECT

Prepare the skin by cleansing your face thoroughly. Make sure you remove all makeup.

Wipe the skin with alcohol or antiseptic tea-tree oil pads like those from Desert Essence.

Make sure the skin is dry so the wax can adhere to facial hair. If you must use a powder, use TALC-FREE baby powder, like Burt’s Bees. Talc can cause breakouts.

WAX

Use the spatula to spread a relatively thick layer of wax over the hair you want removed. Make sure all of the edges are thick, so that when you have to remove the wax you can grab onto it. Keeping the edges even also reduces the amount of wax cleanup afterward.


Once the wax hardens, flick off one of the thick ends (as long as it is opposite the direction of the hair growth. This is the end you will grab onto.) Pull the skin taught and in one quick motion,  keeping close to the skin, rip the wax off in the opposite direction of the hair growth. Leaving a bit of a glob on the edge you will try to grab will act like a handle when trying to rip the wax away.

When waxing the upper lip, I find it helpful to press your lips together to loosen the wax from the skin before removal. Apply the wax in sections: downwards at the corners of the mouth, down the middle of the cupids bow, and then the longer sides above the lip–you’ll have more control and less pain.

SOOTHE & PROTECT

Look for any bits of leftover wax (shouldn’t have much if you spread the wax evenly) and pick them off with CLEAN FINGERS (use Purell beforehand).

Now, this is the step some people may find controversial, but it helps keep bacteria away from the pores and is a huge step in keeping me from breaking out: Wipe the area with the tea tree oil pads again. This will clean, disinfect and remove any other wax bits.

After that, splash your face with cold water. I actually like to wash with a very SMALL amount of Panoxyl (available at the drugstore in the acne treatment aisle) to remove any other oil or dirt. Like I said, keeping as clean and germ-free as possible is what has kept me from breaking out.

Finally, I apply an all-natural antiseptic gel like Lush Cosmetic’s Grease Lightning. It doesn’t sting but the antiseptic oils and gel consistency are perfect for keeping the pores clean and clear. There are no lotions or heavy creams that will clog the pores and make you break out.

That’s MY method of waxing the facial area.  The GiGi wax is great and convenient. You may have to reheat the wax once it goes cold but it only takes a few seconds. Being fuzz-free is worth it!
