French-born designer Sophie Theallet (who now runs shop out of Brooklyn) won the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award last night in New York. Theallet, who has worked under Jean Paul Gaultier and Azzedine Alaïa is a womenswear designer who beat out other contestants from footwear, menswear and womenswear.

The Huffington Post calls Theallet a “Michelle Obama favorite,” and if the First Lady can do for her what she did for Thakoon, this could mean big things for the “bohemian luxe” designer. Theallet is known for taking a stand and using fashion to comment on culture (only black models walked her S/S 09 runway show), but her clothes are universally flattering. So fresh.

**Bonus: if you want to know how the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund got started, Netflix the documentary Seamless, which follows award hopefuls Doo.Ri, Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough, among others.

I have to congratulate any burgeoning fashion designer given a chance to make it in the fierce world of fashion. In this case, French couturier Sophie Theallet is one of the very few lucky ones. She’s been winning awards in fashion since she was 18 and has even been given big breaks by designing a collection for Paris-based department store le Printemps, and working under Jean-Paul Gaultier and Azzedine Alaia. It all worked in her favour, she recently won the $200,00o cash prize and mentorship under the Council of Fashion Design of America/Vogue for the next year. Just what a fashion star needs.

Her line is available at Joseph (London), Barney’s (NYC) and online at 24Fab.com.

Hoje, ela simplesmente segue as tendências.

It was a transparent snub to Alaia when the Met slipped on including his unique and immense relationship with the supers of the 90’s in the Model as Muse exhibit earlier this year.

This is the last weekend of August…it’s time for me to show my idea of the dress of August.

This is the last weekend of August…it also means that a lot will change the next week: officially, Summer ends and Autumn aka Fall begins, and a lot of us will go to school/university again, etc.

I thought September isn’t that cold yet, that’s why it might be okay to change the shoes only, not the whole dress.

Click here to have all the information about the used items. In keywords, the shoes of the Summer are presented by Azzedine Alaia, Dolce and Gabbana, Givenchy, Nicholas Kirkwood and Camilla Skovgaard, while I’ve chosen the following ankle boots for September: Georgina Goodman, Christian Louboutin, Givenchy, Miu Miu and Balmain.

Yes, I know I haven’t put too many casual dresses together Last Sunday, I’ve criticised other’s outfits, now it’s your turn to criticise mine!

However, that’s not all for today.

My beloved girlfriend celebrated her n-th birthday [ ] this month, and this time it was only this one little fashion related present among the gifts:

Sorry for not having real life shot of the hair clip, but it would have been risky to post it before her birthday as she checks this blog quite frequently lately. She’s more than a thousand kilometres away now, but maybe she’ll send a picture if it.

This jewellery set, called “1001 Nuits” has also rings, bracelets, earrings, necklaces and brooches, maybe I should get the whole collection during the next few years. But sshhhshhhh, let’s keep it between you and me

I received a lot of wonderful emails, tweets and blog responses while I was in Paris last month. I thought it would be fun to provide an overview of some of the places I mentioned during my time there. I’ve divided them into categories — including Hotels, Restaurants and Nightclubs, Boutiques and Shopping, and Museums. Enjoy!

Colette is known the world-over for carrying the best that fashion has to offer. It’s a well-

Colette is known the world-over for carrying the best that fashion has to offer. It’s a well-edited mix of luxury, street-style, design, art and beauty products that is constantly changing.

Every time I visit the store, the selection is totally revamped! I love to see what cutting-edge looks they’re featuring. I stopped in and here are some of my favorites:

I adore this Commes des Garçons top from the label’s fall Tao collection. It’s printed, with a velvet ribbon, and looks like a bolero. You could wear it with a simple black dress as shown or with black pants for something more casual chic. It’s a great piece because it works for dressing up or down and you could use it so many ways.

This dress from Azzaro caught my eye. I don’t think I could wear something quite this short, but I love its sexy glamour regardless!

I like this studded black shirt by Sacai, a Japanese design house based in the Marais section of Paris. Again, it can be dressed up or down, and either way, it’s very of-the-moment.

Of course, Colette is stocking everyone’s favorite right now: Balmain. Here are two takes on the French label’s sharp-shouldered jacket. Designer Christophe Decarnin’s Spring collection was a disco smash that took the fashion world by storm, and his striking silhouette and edgy chic look will continue through fall. The one on the left is a little more sophisticated with an obvious Chanel influence while the one on the right is more rock’n'roll. I love them both!

Look at these dresses by Mary Katrantzou! So cool! I haven’t seen anything like these before. Just another example of the unique vision and discerning taste that makes Colette unlike any other shop in the world…

Afterward, I made my way to the atelier of Azzedine Alaïa, a true couturier and one of my favorite designers of all time. He has a discreet shop off of rue de Moussy. It’s not flashy — in fact, you can barely see his name above the door. But inside, it’s magic.

I’ve been collecting his pieces over the years. They are so timeless and integrate beautifully no matter the season or current trend. I wore an Alaïa dress to the Christian Lacroix Haute Couture show two weeks ago. I was photographed by Bill Cunningham wearing an Alaïa skirt at the prêt-à-porter Fall 2009 shows back in March. And as it turns out, I was wearing an Alaïa sweater when I stopped into the designer’s showroom last week.

I didn’t expect to see Azzedine himself, but he was there! It was very special to be able to thank him personally for his extraordinary contributions to fashion and his ability to translate what the chic modern woman needs in a wardrobe.

While browsing the store, I snapped a picture of this gorgeous dress. I also saw model Karen Mulder trying some clothes on.

Michelle Obama observed Catholic tradition by donning a long black veil. The fashionable First Lady wore a Moschino veil, shirt, and skirt for a visit with the Pope. Her coat was by Michael Kors, and the belt was Azzedine Alaia.

Obama’s top was the black version of the same Moschino white bow blouse she wore in Prague last April.

Dressing to meet the Pope at the Vatican presents a challenge since you must dress appropriate, but want to present yourself in a chic manner. Michelle pulled it off looking polished and conservative yet fashionable.

Beyonce is in concert tomorrow, Monday, July 13th 2009 in LA… and horiwood is so going to be in Sasha Fierce’s house. It will feel strange seeing Beyonce perform and do a tribute to Michael Jackson at the Staples Center where his memorial took place. Strange good that is. Go Beyonce Knowles! We luv ya in LA!
