In a way, the inaugural Singapore Airshow is a letdown. Not because of anything else but the showcase of poor planning by the organizer. Having said that, I must say, those Black Knights guys sure have fun playing to an appreciative audience with their high flying stunts.

If you think the queue for some free buritos are long, check these pictures out. The entrance have some semblance of order. Everybody queuing up and all that, but…

…waiting to go inside and squeeze with all those warm bodies abound. It’s not so crowded inside due to the huge expense of open space there. However…

…when come time to leave, some orderly queue degenerated into chaos as masses of people Zergling Rush the buses, whose doors remain closed. The auxiliary police in charge of crowd control are totally ineffective in controlling the burning anger of the mob. Add in the hot Saturday sun, everybody’s nerve is in tatters.

But once you’re on the bus, these concerns concerns you even less…goes to show the selfishness in humans doesn’t it? I heard only after our bus left, more police officers came out into the sweltering heat (oh wow, yeah, after staying in air-conditioned room for so long) to finally put an end into the raging mob.

But still, that did not totally stop my friend [S]urong from having a field day (literally) on that day. At least she’s optimistic unlike me, as I wonder through the meager exhibits.

These AH-64D Apache Longbow is one of the meanest looking machine out here…and some people can’t differentiate this baby with some other generic looking helos. What a wuss. Take note of where it came from…United States.

The star of the recent Iraqi War. The meaning looking, all business, no pilot, all attitude bad boy of the aviation industry, the commendable (but hardly autonomic) Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, Predator, and to its right, its small ugly cousin, whose name I don’t even want to type here. This baby takes the fun right out of human piloted vehicles. I mean, come on man, pilots are the creme-de-la-creme of all professional professions (well, at least not those civil pilots variety, they are pantsies.), and cutting them out of piloting…bodes ill well for us stupid human.

But that said, piloted aircrafts are still owners to some of the best looking machines ever. Check out the working end of the second most famous fighter in history (the first being the British Supermarine Spitfire of Battle of Britain fame), the American Boeing F-15E Fighting Eagle. Singapore Airforce got the US to sell it a few of these, probably that’s what gotten the mother excited enough to explain how it works to her kid. Way to go Mommy!

Ah yes, the airforce version of the naval aircraft F/A-18E Super Hornet. It’s not such a bad aircraft if it wasn’t so bad on the specifications. Surprisingly, I like this aircraft better than the smaller F-16E Fighting Falcon. Probably the size does matter.

This is the second time I’ve seen this relic of the Cold War in Asia, the first during Langkawi International Maritine and Aerospace Show in, where else but Langkawi. This the the good looking, nuclear payload carrying supersonic bomber the B-1B Lancer. It’s being largely superceded by the newer and dearer B-2B Spirit swept wing stealth bomber. And not, they will never be put on show in some commercial airshow, which this Singapore Airshow is.

Another purchase by the Singapore Airforce to extend the operating range of it’s aircrafts, for whatever reason I could not fathom since Singapore has neither the airspace nor far flung territories it can operate out of. So, you can see why I’m puzzled as to the reason a tiny speck of a country in South East Asia would want to extend the range of its operational fighters…makes one wonders doesn’t it? By the way, this aircraft is called Boeing KC-135.

And that ladies and gentlemen, concludes my photographic evidenced ranting for today.

On a last note, Happy Birthday to the birthday girl, who turns out to be too excited to sleep early with the surprising surprise party her friends threw her. Well…here’s to you. Cheers!

ps: oh yeah, did you notice this year’s display of aircrafts are all American? Where’s the French aircrafts? The Russian favorites? The Scandinavian powers? Conspicuously missing that’s what.
