Jasmine's yellow blanket.

This is Jasmine with her ‘lello’ comfort banket. We once had to drive 30 miles back to a hotel to retrieve the last grubby 2 square inches of it. The hotel must have thought we were mad . Its not a very good likeness. I tried in this picture to depict the skin tones in ‘real colours’ rather than  paint what one  expects to see. Jasmine used to be a very pale almost ivory colour when she slept. In my frenzy of washing and rubbing out I managed to tear a big chunk of the watercolour paper from around the eyelid. This doomed me to not getting the eyelid right but I managed to patch it up with some delicate surgery.

Tanda-tanda yang sering muncul ketika sembelit adalah jangka waktu yang lama, waktu yang tidak teratur pada saat buang air besar. Hal tersebut disertai dengan ciri-ciri perut yang semakin membesar yang diikuti dengan kentut ,bau mulut, sakit kepala, dan rasa sakit ketika buang air besar (getaran, pergerakan selama buang air besar)

Setiap orang mempunyai pola kebiasaan tertentu ketika buang air besar, yang cukup bervariasi, dari tiga kali sehari hingga sekali dalam waktu 2 atau 3 hari. Sistem pencernaan mampu mencerna dan menyerap sari-sari makanan dari makanan yang kita makan, namun ada satu zat yang tidak bisa dicerna dan diserap sistem pencernaan itu. Hal tersebut adalah selulosa-selulosa tumbuhan, yang bentuknya secara umum terdapat pada biji bagian terluar dari tumbuhan dan sayuran. Sebutan umum untuk selulosa tumbuhan itu adalah roughage atau serat (lihat pada bagian karbohidrat). Selulosa yang tidak dapat dicerna pada hasil akhir dari pencernaan makanan menstimulasi adanya peristalsis.

Beberapa makanan tidak mengandung serat, dan hal yang mungkin terjadi jika makanan-makanan itu dikonsumsi tanpa diimbangi makanan lain, dan dalam jumlah yang banyak, hal itu akan mengakibatkan sembelit. Makanan yang secara umum tidak mengandung serat adalah telur, keju dan daging.

I learned how to put in hardwood floors!

I have been enjoying bouts of productivity, alternately working on hardwood floors, writing a course for UniED, and completing a freelance writing contract!

Em is still crazy and hilarious, and has become so attached to being “little chef”, that she is insulted if she is not integrated into the cooking of meals. We’ve been clearing out the fridge, freezer, and pantry, creating meals out of nothing! I’ve been learning a lot of little simple cooking things – how to roast stuff so it doesn’t burn in the oven, how to make “just-right” porridge, how to make pumpkin soup out of a pumpkin, and on and on. Lumby seems to have more time available than in big cities, so I find that I have time to keep abreast of current events and the world news, as well as maintain my regular reading of interesting books and Holy Texts. I’ll admit that I’ve come very close, about three or four times now, to writing some social commentary blog posts – but I find my writing breaking down when I do! For example, after completing my degree, I felt I should write about my concerns of the lack of standard in Psychology – and how reliance on mean behaviors as a standard is compromising the field…but i soon realized this needs to be done over like 2 books or a giant PhD – and even Lumby doesn’t have enough time for that!

Emily explores architecture

Then there’s architecture. Em got this ingenious little game that’s like manual Tetris. It’s actually quite simple and entertaining. Essentially, you are given sets of pieces to work with, and have to try and make squares or rectangles out of them. It’s called Katamino, and has inspired us both to be architects. I once had a CRAZY dream, where my life played out before me: I got married, had kids, lived on an island, fought with my wife, and ultimately, became an architect. The coolest part is that I remember the designs for the biggest project. It was a ginormous building that was self-contained, and was a prototype for housing on the moon! haha. So maybe I’ll go into architecture and design moon housing…or maybe Em will, who knows?

Art lessons form the master

She may also end up, like Ted’s first son sky, being an artist. She draws and colors several pictures a day, and she really shows signs of steady improvement (without the aid of instructors!). Here I caught her getting a rare lesson in drawing skills from Ted, who is himself an accomplished artiste.

Besides these activities out of which daily life in Lumby is made, I’ve been living another life on the inside! It’s unreal how people can transport themselves to different times and places and situations in their own minds. Internally, I’ve been visiting and revisiting 19th century Persia. The Bab wrote incredible works, and I’ve been reading what I can find translated into English, as well as reading stories from the history of the Baha’i Faith. It’s really interesting, and refreshing for my soul! Between stories from the fierce early believers of the faith, and the current civilization-building perspective of some Baha’i writers, I’m drawing loads of inspiration to act for positive change up in this humpity bumpity. The positive motivating influence of religion is astounding – even when I just look at my own life! And what other people see as the destructive influences of religion, are, in my opinion, perversions of the spirit of religion; abuses of belief which religion evinces in the hearts of people.

Though my mother despised my beard, I’ve decided to throw all caution to the wind, and just grow for it. aha..ha. Till next time,

So könnte man es grob zusammenfassen was wohl viele Politiker und alteingesessene Sesselpupser beim Arbeitsamt denken. Ob es nun die Flexibilität beim Arbeitsort oder bei der Berufswahl ist. So dachte ich auch, nach meinem Zivi. Warum nur eine Ausbildung machen? Also hatte ich mich dazu durch gerungen nochmal die Schulbank zu drücken und eine zweite Ausbildung hinterher zu schieben. Ihr werdet es ja sicherlich schon mitbekommen haben.

Ist ja auch alles kein Problem. Ich verdien zwar jetzt weniger als wie im Zivi, aber dafür gibt es ja ein paar Fördermöglichkeiten. Sprich: Wohngeld, Bafög und BAB. Alles beantragt, alles abgelehnt. Außer Wohngeld.

Bafög wurde zwar genehmigt, aber ich bekommen sensationelle 0,00 Euro lt. Bescheid. Ich freu mich. Der im Bescheid festgesetzte Monatsbedarf von 400 Euro reicht zwar vorne und hinten nicht (weil ich allein 250 Euro Miete und 200 Euro Spritkosten habe und von irgendwas muss ich ja auch Lebensmittel kaufen) aber dass schien auch niemanden nach meinem Widerspruch gestört zu haben. Denn Fahrtkosten werden lt. irgendeinem Gesetz nicht mit in die Berechnung mit einbezogen und schon stimmte das. Bezahlen muss ich das scheiß Benzin aber trotzdem. Pinkeln kann ich Benzin nämlich noch nicht…

Und für den BAB-Antrag bekam ich heute die Ablehnung. Ich zitiere:

[...] Ihrem Antrag auf Berufsausbildungsbeihilfe kann leider nicht entsprochen werden.

Ihre Ausbildung kann nach & 60 Abs. 2 SGB III nicht gefördert werden. Es wurde bereits eine berufliche Ausbildung abgeschlossen. Die Förderung der zweiten Ausbildung ist nicht möglich, weil eine berufliche Eingliederung als Kaufmann für Bürokommunikation bundesweit möglich ist. [...]

Schön. Und wann kann ich bundesweit eingegliedert werden? Nach 20 Jahren Arbeitslosigkeit, 30 Alkoholentzügen und 40 Drogenentzügen?

Man fordert auf der einen Seite von den jungen Leuten so viel. Sie sollen doch flexibel sein, nicht nur einen Job machen, sich mehr umgucken, noch eine zweite Ausbildung machen und und und. Am Ende stehen sie dann aber alleine da und müssen gucken wie sie klar kommen. Der Staat. Der Staat hat uns schon längst verlassen.

BAB: Bemerkenswertes aus der Blogosphäre … und von anderswo her:

Hatte ich schon im letzten BAB auf Entwicklungen hingewiesen, die Orwells Roman 1984 entnommen sein könnten, so fand sich kürzlich in einem Artikel bei Heise.de mit dem Titel “Der Chip, der unter die Haut ging” ein weiteres Szenario, das biblische Assoziationen weckt.  Wie ich bereits an anderer Stelle sagte: Lange Zeit sind Christen, die, mit Hinweis auf Stellen der Heilige Schrift, vor solchen Entwicklungen gewarnt haben, dafür ausgelacht und als Spinner abgetan worden. Anscheinend setzt heute ein Umdenken ein.

Wer schon immer einmal die Frisuren kennen lernen wollte, die im Altertum “cool”, “in”, “schick”, “hipp” oder einfach (im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes) “Kult” waren (und sich nebenbei für einige biblische Informationen zum Thema “Haare”  interessiert), für den ist Josh Manns reich bebilderter Artikel “Ancient Hairstyles and the NT” genau richtig.

I was supposed to write this a few days ago when we celebrated His birth date. Although late, I think it is important to write about who The Bab was and what He did for humanity.

The Bab, as mentioned above, was born in the city of Shiraz in what is today called Iran. He was born into a working class family and while He was a child, after the passing of His father He was raised by His maternal uncle. From the beginning of His Blessed life He showed signs that He was indeed a special and enlightened being. At school he was often challenged when asked to behave like the rest of His peers due to His bright mind and innate knowledge. Once His school teacher said that he felt unfit to teach that child.

The Bab followed the family trade and became a well-known merchant in the city for his honesty, love and compassion. When He was a very young man, He received the Revelation of God where God announced to Him what His mission on this earth was.

The Bab was only twenty-five years of age when He proclaimed that He had come as a Manifestation or Prophet of God and He was preparing the hearts of them who recognize Him to recognize the coming of the “Promised One of All Ages” that was quickly approaching. He declared to Mulla Husayn on May 23rd 1844. The Ministry of The Bab only lasted a period of six years after which He was martyred in the city of Tabriz in 1850.

The Babi era – later evolving into what we know as the Baha’i era- is best described in the book God Passes By:

May 23, 1844, signalizes the commencement of the most turbulent period of the Heroic Age of the Bahá’í Era, an age which marks the opening of the most glorious epoch in the greatest cycle which the spiritual history of mankind has yet witnessed. No more than a span of nine short years marks the duration of this most spectacular, this most tragic, this most eventful period of the first Bahá’í century.

Clearly, at the time of The Bab’s revelation, His believers were heavily persecuted and martyred in all corners of the Persian region. Thousands of souls gave their lives for their Beloved and their beliefs without hesitation.

The manifestation of The Bab fulfilled many prophecies of the coming of the “Twin Manifestations” (Himself and Baha’u'llah) and He came to the world as a Thief in the Night. This is said because He did not openly proclaim His Station but eighteen souls by themselves and unaided found Him and recognized Him while many others we asleep as we do in the middle of the night.

In the same book as above, written by Shoghi Effendi, is written:

We behold, as we survey the episodes of this first act of a sublime drama, the figure of its Master Hero, the Báb, arise meteor-like above the horizon of Shíráz, traverse the sombre sky of Persia from south to north, decline with tragic swiftness, and perish in a blaze of glory. We see His satellites, a galaxy of God-intoxicated heroes, mount above that same horizon, irradiate that same incandescent light, burn themselves out with that self-same swiftness, and impart in their turn an added impetus to the steadily gathering momentum of God’s nascent Faith.

The Bab was the Herald of a New Era in the history of humankind.

Where does the name God Swimming in God come from?

And might it not be slightly blasphemous?

Best get both questions out there right away. The name comes from the mental picture that I had when I first began to get an inkling of the concept of the unity of Spirit and Creation.

The question of whether it is an apt description of reality or an offensive statement depends on one’s belief system and perspective. Perhaps we can all work that out together as time goes on.

First, the origin.

In the 1990s, I had a habit each Lent of confining my reading to books with a spiritual theme, often dealing with meditation or the connections between religions. During the Lent of 1995, my reading included The Journey Inwards by F. C. Happold and Universal Wisdom by Bede Griffiths. I was amazed by Griffiths’ description of the Axial Age and his selections of early writings about this unity. Happold’s book provided a glimpse into how one might live in that unity rather than just read about it.

Lent was over, Easter came, but I just kept looking for more and more scriptures and writings on this theme.

After about a year of this focused reading, I experienced what  many had come to call an “aha” moment. Up until then, I was fascinated by the whole unity concept and thought that it “made sense,” but hadn’t gone far beyond that.

It was late afternoon in Springfield, Illinois, and I was on a business trip, covering the state legislature for the Chicago Tribune. I had ridden my bicycle from the motel where I was staying to a park with a stream. The sun was beginning its way down to the horizon, and was creating beautiful sparkles on the water. I was sitting on the grass, leaning up against a tree, just enjoying the breeze, the sounds of children running around and the sight of the ducks, swimming and bobbing their heads down into the water to drink.

I wasn’t trying to meditate. I was just open. And it hit me. This is all God. The water is God and the ducks are God and the air is God and all these people are God. There is nothing but God. Yet in some mysterious way, we are all also individuals.

This is what I wrote about it at the time.

April 23, 1996

Sitting at the edge of the brook that goes through Washington Park in Springfield, Ill., looking at an incredible tree in the late afternoon sun, surrounded by ducks, water, grass, people, dogs.

It was so bright, it was sort of surreal. And then one of those “Aha!” moments happened. What people have started to call an epiphany. When an understanding, a way of seeing things, happens all at once, that you weren’t expecting. And you know you’ve turned a corner and will never go back to seeing things the way you saw them before.

The crashing-through-my-head thought was: All of this is God! Not just God is in all of it or it is all in God.

It IS God. God IS it.

It’s like the commercial of Michael Jordan running on his own head. We are God, walking on God; the duck is God, swimming in God, the crows and cardinals are God, flying in God.

Life is springing forth from God and is God.

This is not pantheism. There is a Bede Griffith scripture citation, in the Upanishads, that said it so clearly and beautifully–the mystery is that we are unique, separate individuals, while all being God.

Even the duck is God swimming in and drinking God — and I am God watching God swim in and drink God, yet the duck is a duck, the water is water and I am a self-aware, conscious human being.

This is the mystery Christ was trying to show in the Eucharist.
This is my Body. This is my Blood.

I’m somewhat overwhelmed by the beauty of all this. How do I dance the mysticism into words to explain the insights? How do I harvest the experiences and put them into words to explain the journey?

For the next ten years, I worked to find a way to take what I felt in my bones and get it into my mind, or at least my fingers, so the concepts could be written and shared. That involved searching writings over the past 2,600 years, trying to follow the thread of the unity of Spirit and Creation. One of the surprises was that it ebbed and flowed throughout history and that the 20th and 21st Centuries saw an incredble upswing.

Half way through that journey I began collaborating with a fantastic artist, Christine Tobias, who took those writings and brought them to life with color and images, sensitivity and spiritual wisdom. From the Upanishads to 21st Century secular writing, we traced the thread and the result was In the Same Breath.

Here we are now, in the 2009 land of blogs and tweets, friends and follows, wuffie and the cloud, and it’s time to expand the reach of the physical book and invite more people to continue weaving the thread. Hence, the God Swimming in God blog.

During those ten years, I also sent a 275-word section of my journal, written in 1997 after my mother died, to my sister-in-law Jane Gaunt, also an artist, and we began working on a book that explores the theme in another way, One Spirit: A Creation Story for the 21st Century.

Seandainya orang-orang itu aku kumpulkan menjadi satu dan mengikuti seorang imam yang pandai membaca Al-Qur’an, tentu lebih utama.’ Setelah Umar mempunyai azam (tekad) demikian, lalu dia mengumpulkan orang menjadi satu untuk berimam kepada Ubay bin Ka’ab.Kemudian pada malam yang lain aku keluar bersama Umar, dan orang-orang melakukan shalat dengan imam yang ahli membaca Al-Qur’an. Umar berkata, ‘Ini adalah sebagus-bagus bid’ah (barang baru). Orang yang tidur dulu dan meninggalkan shalat pada permulaan malam (untuk melakukannya pada akhir malam) adalah lebih utama daripada orang yang mendirikannya (pada awal malam).’ Yang dimaksudkan olehnya ialah pada akhir malam. Adapun orang-orang itu mendirikannya pada permulaan malam.”

Muslim meriwayatkan telah menceritakan kepada kami Zuhair bin Harb dan Shuja’ bin Makhlad dari Ulayyah yang berkata Zuhair berkata telah menceritakan kepada kami Ismail bin Ibrahim dari Abu Hayyan dari Yazid bin Hayyan yang berkata ”Aku, Husain bin Sabrah dan Umar bin Muslim pergi menemui Zaid bin Arqam. Setelah kami duduk bersamanya berkata Husain kepada Zaid ”Wahai Zaid sungguh engkau telah mendapat banyak kebaikan. Engkau telah melihat Rasulullah SAW, mendengarkan hadisnya, berperang bersamanya dan shalat di belakangnya. Sungguh engkau mendapat banyak kebaikan wahai Zaid. Coba ceritakan kepadaku apa yang kamu dengar dari Rasulullah SAW. Berkata Zaid “Hai anak saudaraku, aku sudah tua, ajalku hampir tiba, dan aku sudah lupa akan sebagian yang aku dapat dari Rasulullah SAW. Apa yang kuceritakan kepadamu terimalah,dan apa yang tidak kusampaikan janganlah kamu memaksaku untuk memberikannya.
Lalu Zaid berkata ”pada suatu hari Rasulullah SAW berdiri di hadapan kami di sebuah tempat yang bernama Ghadir Khum seraya berpidato, maka Beliau SAW memanjatkan puja dan puji atas Allah SWT, menyampaikan nasehat dan peringatan. Kemudian Beliau SAW bersabda “Ketahuilah wahai manusia sesungguhnya aku hanya seorang manusia. Aku merasa bahwa utusan Tuhanku (malaikat maut) akan segera datang dan Aku akan memenuhi panggilan itu. Dan Aku tinggalkan padamu dua pusaka (Ats-Tsaqalain). Yang pertama Kitabullah (Al-Quran) di dalamnya terdapat petunjuk dan cahaya,maka berpegang teguhlah dengan Kitabullah”. Kemudian Beliau melanjutkan, “dan Ahlul Bait-Ku, kuperingatkan kalian akan Ahlul Bait-Ku, kuperingatkan kalian akan Ahlul Bait-Ku, kuperingatkan kalian akan Ahlul Bait-Ku”

Lalu Husain bertanya kepada Zaid ”Hai Zaid siapa gerangan Ahlul Bait itu? Tidakkah istri-istri Nabi termasuk Ahlul Bait? Jawabnya “Istri-istri Nabi termasuk Ahlul Bait. Tetapi yang dimaksud Ahlul Bait disini adalah orang yang tidak diperkenankan menerima sedekah setelah wafat Nabi SAW”, Husain bertanya “Siapa mereka?”.Jawab Zaid ”Mereka adalah Keluarga Ali, Keluarga Aqil, Keluarga Ja’far dan Keluarga Ibnu Abbes”. Apakah mereka semua diharamkan menerima sedekah (zakat)?” tanya Husain; “Ya”, jawabnya.

Jabir bin Abdillah berkata bahwa Rasulullah saw bersabda: “Wahai Jabir, sesungguhnya para washiku (penerima wasiatku) dan para Imam kaum muslimin sesudahku adalah: pertama Ali, kemudian Al-Hasan, kemudian Al-Husein, kemudian Ali bin Husein, kemudian Muhammad bin Ali yang terkenal dengan julukan Al-Baqir dan kamu akan menjumpainya wahai Jabir, dan jika kamu menjumpainya sampaikan padanya salamku; kemudian Ja’far bin Muhammad, kemudian Musa bin Ja’far, kemudian Ali bin Musa, kemudian Muhammad bin Ali, kemudian Ali bin Muhammad, kemudian Al-Hasan bin Ali; kemudian Al-Qaim, namanya sama dengan namaku, nama panggilannya sama dengan nama panggilanku, yaitu putera Al-Hasan bin Ali, di tangan dialah Allah tabaraka wa ta’ala membuka kemenangan di bumi bagian timur dan barat, dialah yang ghaib dari para kekasihnya, ghaib yang menggoncangkan kepercayaan terhadap kepemimpinannya kecuali orang yang hatinya telah Allah uji dalam keimanan.”

Kemudian Jabir bertanya kepada Rasulullah saw: Ya Rasulullah, apakah manusia memperoleh manfaat dalam keghaibannya? Je doet mee aan Eurosong, weken lang support half België voor je, smst en belt in de hoop jou naar het buitenland te krijgen en indien je wint mag je een beetje later de Belgische trots gaan verdedigen in een ver landje hier vandaan. Of je nu hier wint in België of niet, meestal doet het er niet veel toe, het verhaal kent meestal de zelfde afloop. 1 hit, 1 album met de hit erop. Eind verhaal. Sommige halen niet eens een album en stoppen vroeger in de muziekwereld.

Of het bij Junior Eurosong ook zo is, geen idee. Maar geef toe dat we nog maar weinig horen van X!nk (de eerste bende winnaars van enkele jaren terug…).

Geen idee dus of u nog Bab kunt, die we in 2007 met gerust moeten laten? Dit is haar Eurosong-nummertje:

Ja, ze wist toen al mijn interesse te wekken want dat nummertje was nog lang niet slecht. Ik keek dus al uit naar een album van haar en zou dat beslist gaan kopen. Nu enkele jaren later heeft ze al een aantal singles op haar naam staan, but so far geen album.

Zingen doet ze nog echter steeds leerde YouTube mij. Meer nog, ze coverde “Poker Face” van “Lady Gaga” die, als je ‘t mij vraagt, volledig gaga is ook. Bab haar versie is dan ook veel beter…

En van mij mag ze gerust nog enkele jaren doorgaan op die manier…
