People are discussing photos they share on Pinterest, the blog on their travels or the app they are

People are discussing photos they share on Pinterest, the blog on their travels or the app they are using to track their fitness and exercise schedule. These conversations on technology are not restricted to the local social media clubs; they are hot topics for senior services communities like Laclede Groves near Saint Louis and coffee shops where baby boomers meet.

Vibrant seniors and boomers are blogging and using Facebook, Twitter and Skype to keep up with families and friends. Social media savvy seniors and boomers may also be boosting brain power new research suggests.

Vibrant seniors and boomers are blogging and using Facebook, Twitter and Skype to keep up with families and friends. Social media savvy seniors and boomers may not be the first to try the newest app or gadget; but are eager to adopt them once the technology is mainstream. Older users on social media are active to discuss and share travel, health, hobbies or search for products, values, and discounts. The social and digital contribution of these connected seniors is impressive! Baby Boomers are 80 million strong and growing.

In just five years, 50% of the US population will be 50+ projects Nielsen Research. (August 2012)

US Boomers’ Internet usage now is impressive:

- 33% of all online users

- 33% of all social media and Twitter

- 33% are heavy internet users.

Currently, there are about 21 million online seniors (those aged over 65 years old) in the United States according to Forrester Research, (June 2012).

Forrester finds 49% of digital seniors in the US are using Facebook.

- 91% of online seniors use email

- 59% have purchased products online in past three months

- 46% send/receive photos by email

- 44% play solo games online

- 24% sign up for coupons/freebies.

Staying connected online and through social media may be a great way for seniors to stay healthy. One recent study shows social media can give older adults a brain boost. Researchers at the University of Arizona taught some seniors, over 65, how to use Facebook and then put them through cognitive and memory tests. The new Facebook users fared 25 percent better on the tests than seniors who did not use the social network.

Boomers were raised in front of the TV and have always embraced media and technology. The size of the screens is now shrinking as they continue to grow with a constantly changing tech landscape that could help keep them young and connected for socializing, shopping and entertaining themselves on social media.

To see some of these savvy seniors in action on Facebook, I suggest you visit the Lutheran Senior Services page on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LutheranSeniorServices.

Don’t know about you but I feel like I woke up this am and found an extra 10 pounds that I am lugging around. Now this could be totally from the stress I am lugging around at the moment-you know you tend to either eat more under stress or you don’t eat.

So what to do???? 10 pounds feels like a big brick, and a few jiggles.

Any help?

I am eating lots of veggies, but being a carb addict I find this all so unsatisfying…I think I am having carb withdrawals…

Okay this will make my point. The picture that is..Here are my 7 Fashion Tips. Did I ever mention that I was in the fashion industry for about 20 years, in design, merchandising and sales and marketing..so now you know..

1. Wear black-It goes with everything and looks great on nearly everyone!

2. Always wear something on your body that is slim fitting. If you are wearing flowing pants with wide legs wear s slimming top. If you are wearing a large tunic top wear slim pants…

3. If you are going to wear bright colors chose the part of your body that is the slimmest. For instance if you have rather large tatas wear the more neutral or dark color on top unless you want to extenuate them. If you have a large bottom well then try the darker color unless of course your aim is to maximize the derrier…

4. Wear your great scarves because they accentuate your beautiful face instead of wrinkles.-same goes for jewelry.

5. Go for length. A line. you want the eye to travel in a straight line for length. I don’t know about you but they say you get shorter with age.

6. Accentuate the positive.

7. Think of pieces that are multifunctional, and can go from morning till evening. Those are my favs. What are yours. Picture from Eileen Fisher

Just get your butt up and get out the door and you are strolling, beef up the pace and you are fast walking, beef it up a bit and you are race walking. So you can get any amount of exercise you want just by walking. Walk up hills, walk down hills-uses different muscles, and is lots of fun. You get great scenery, you can say a prayer if you wish , you can feel gratitude for the beauty you find…flowers, birds, a blue sky….so get up and take a walk and let me know what you find.

Got alot of questions on our favorite friend..

Just to let you know sometimes our friend comes in torrents, some times it beats the crap out of us with cramps, sometimes you can’t seem to get rid of it, some times you feel as if you need to go to the emergency room to stop hemooraging…Yes that sounds like fun doesn’t it. I know it sucks…It really does,,,and then you have all those mood swings crying one moment and bloody angry the next…It goes all over the board. One thing is for certain I haven’t experienced any thing close to nuetral..It is either one extreme to the next. Sorry. Maybe someone else has had a kinder experience.

Here are some books I found that may help you, at least to look up information…

Susan Weed- Menopausal Years the wise woman way

or The wisdom of Menopause-Christine Northup.

I can tell you I haven’t found much wisdom for menopause but there was some good information in there. Let me ask you have you found any wisdom in Menopause? I have just found well you know crazy hormonal swings, and a body that will not behave…

If you have any books you can recommend please do let me know and I will post them…from friend to friend…Love to hear from you…

Now that I am fifty and oh so enjoying the menopausal years…….Once a month I can be sure

Now that I am fifty and oh so enjoying the menopausal years…….Once a month I can be sure to have an ugly hormone day. That is the day you feel like you are in a hole 8 feet under and there is no way of getting out. It lasts between 1-3 days, and it is the most awful feeling ever. No one, and nothing can make it better. It is a very dark hole, and it feels as if you are being suffocated by negative energy, and that dirt is falling all over you. Okay I may be a bit dramatic here..but it doesn’t feel good. What is it with being Fifty-menopause, sagging, getting shorter and now these dang hormones raging and fluctuating as if you are one of those rats tested on in a laboratory…

Now I am a pretty positive person. I find the bright nugget in every situation or at least try…but when that ugly hormonal cloud comes over me-Just forget it.

Now I haven’t quite found the way to battle the beast…but one thing I have learned is to just grin and bear it. No use talking about it cause no one else can really understand this beast…so like I said just grin and bear it. I also take a walk if I can and see if I can find anything pretty to look at. A bit of external focus never hurt a soul.

I was told to drink loads of water, gobs of green tea, use that hormonal roller coaster as a few cleansing days so that I can blame it on the cleansing. Sounds reasonable. Next time I will try that…

The good news is this can’t last forever can it?

Hmm..What product might be like a magic wand and bring me back to my former…well self.? There has got to be a magic bullet somewhere. I keep looking,

I did find a lash lengthener called Latisse for a mere 120.00 if you get a prescription, so mind you have to pay for the doctor visit as well…a little high in my book for eyelashes…Anyone know when the patent runs out- then the stuff will be about 30 dollars..well maybe by the time I am 75..

I did find something called Smart Lash at Dermstore.com for 29.99 on sale from 100.00 on Amazon it is 63.99. I figured I would give it a go…I will let you know how it works. Maybe, just maybe I will have long

Yup, got out of bed to find an AARP in my email. I mean I just turned fifty. Really…I may fell a bit flabby, a bit wrinkled, and well not in my rocking old days..but hey I am certainly not able to retire, or enjoy the good old days yet… fishing..Not sure anyone is these days. So why is AARP sending me emails to join them in discounts at restaurants for early bird specials, hotel discounts, and big black grocery boxes for the back of my car that say AARP? Come on…I just turned fifty. If AARP can show me what a fifty year old can benefit from an AARP membership that makes us feel younger, and well more in demand well then they might get my vote…but sending me an email with a free grocery box for the back of my car only tells me they are looking for greater membership. What makes me want to join…Not the grocery box or early bird specials that is for sure. Come on I may be Fifty, but I still like rock and roll, I am still feisty, and fierce…maybe more so than my earlier years, and for sure I still love to flirt…It is in my nature to flirt with life and get the most out of it…So there AARP offer me something I might want to join for.

“Go for the sense of inner joy and peace then, all outside things appear.”

Over the past few weeks, I have visited several blog sites focused on Baby Boomers. The sites have held special interest for me because they were created for many of the same reasons that All Things Fulfilling was born – to participate in the birthing of new tactics in marketing and also to satisfy my desire to take a creative leap in life.

Many baby boomer men and women have decided the time is now to pursue an interest that has been on the back burner for many years. Just last week, I made a visit to the new business of Karen D. Gilroy of Hayden,Colorado. After fulfilling her duties as a wife and mother, she went back to school and is now fully prepared to counsel others on the interconnectedness of mind, body and spirit. She is helping her clients discover the joys that come with living balanced lives. Nutrition and holistic healing have been life-long interests for Karen.

Tools for positive change, beyond mind, body and spirit counseling and therapy are available in Karen’s newly released book, published by Balboa Press. Through her book, Discovering the Healer Within, Karen shares what she has learned from mentors including Dr. Joseph Murphy, Catherine Ponder, Rhonda Byrne, John Holland, Harvey and Marilyn Diamond, Louise Hay and many others.

The importance of exercise, the role the subconscious mind plays in “bringing about what we think about,” detoxifying the body to improve physical health, proper food combining, and the self-healing properties of the human body is all addressed in this book. Discovering the Healer Within is offered to provide insightful facts and topics to aid the reader in beginning their journey of improved health and spirit.

Discover the Healer Within is available in print or in e-book format. To order this book, please visit http://bit.ly/ok0ehs.
I’m laughing about how a friend recently had a run-in with a younger person. This younger person expressed doubt that older people could learn new things.

Yes, old people can learn, if they think it’s important. If, say the “old gal” is a public school teacher and she’s being asked to learn yet another package of cross-your-fingers curriculum to improve test scores, handed to her by a central office administration that hasn’t even bothered to determine whether or not this newest package is effective…well, the old gal might just tell you – and she likely WILL tell you, because this ain’t her first beauty contest – what she thinks of the new effort. Can she learn? Most certainly. Will she make the effort? Maybe not.

Rather than throwing up their hands in ageist defeat, today’s employers might find it more effective to demonstrate the value of the new thing to the older workers.

Hey, that sounds familiar. Isn’t that what they’re saying about the millennials?
