The Dominican Republic´s traditional New Year´s Eve bash, Concierto Brugal, will celebrate its 10th anniversary this December 31, 2009, with bands playing salsa, merengue, and bachata.

The Dominican audience will have the chance to attend the free show which will feature Johnny Ventura (shown here), El Jeffrey, Luis Vargas, Los Hermanos Rosario, Toño Rosario, Raulín Rosendo, José Alberto “El Canario,” Acosta “El Torito,” Rubby Pérez, José Peña Suazo, Frank Reyes, and El Chaval.

Supercanal 33 and Supercanal Caribe (for the United States) will broadcast the event that will be held at the front gardens of the Columbus Lighthouse on the eastern side of the Ozama River.

I’m having a bachata kind of a Saturday morning. It’s cold outside and still. Quiet in the moments before the sky releases. Inside, clothes cover the floor, books and CDs and lipsticks and bracelets are randomly arranged on the dresser, and I’m sitting in my underwear, shivering a little with my wet hair,  but still, here I am. I’ve made it to this moment, the tender Saturday morning.

A coquette really, this one she is, and the most complicated of the seven sisters. You turn over in bed and open your eyes one morning, and she’s lying next to you, alive and rosy in all her youthful glory. She steps out of sleep easily, half-nude and charming. Breezing past a slight recollection of yesterday, she wraps herself in the folds of today and casts a loving glance your way, waiting for you to catch up.

And she always waits for you. Seemingly unconcerned with anything but herself, she knows exactly what she’s doing. Watch her close, and you’ll find her eye — with its perfectly curled lashes –  on you often, luring you in ever so slightly with each glance.

Small exchanges like this one, easy laughs and light movement throughout the day exhaust her slowly, and she grows smaller and smaller, fainting away like a vision. And finally, poof! She’s gone. But push your windows open and look up, and you’ll find her again right there — transformed, a woman now, with all her latent passions in full bloom. Coquettish still but more aware and in control of herself. Swift as lightning, she’s with you everywhere you go. Watch her now peeking at you over a cocktail glass, perched on the fifth cord of the Spanish guitar, glimmering in the eye of a man. Spinning and spinning over and over again at his command, drawing him and you further away from the dance floor and from the familiarity of her sisters, who treasure daylight and routine.

But she, she’s an animal, she’s wild and wildly elusive. She hops from week to week, sealing each one with a kiss, and then she’s off again for her beauty sleep. (Her sister Sunday peers in shyly then, tips the door open just a crack and steps in soundlessly, with her signature mop in hand.)

So, as I was saying, I’m having a bachata Saturday morning. El Torito, Yoskar Sarante, Zacarias Frerreira — the ultimate trio. Love them all. And I love bachata. It’s beautiful, subtle and tender. Its masters handle it with care. Bachata is a heart that has been  closely watched, beat after beat transcripted. It’s alive.

CIUDAD DE MÉXICO, México, nov. 24, 2009.- Aventura, grupo conformado por Anthony, Lenny, Max y Henry, fenómeno de bachata en Estados Unidos y Europa, llega ahora a México para conquistar al público con ritmos originales y pegajosos.

El grupo destacó en entrevista, que “la bachata empezó en República Dominicana y hoy en día somos el primer grupo que estamos nominados con artistas como Black Eyed Peas y Britney Spears, es un honor”.

Ahora están aquí para presentar su quinto álbum titualdo The Last; durante 15 semanas consecutivas, Aventura logró ubicarse en la primera posición en ventas y popularidad, lo mismo sucedió en Italia, Bélgica, Francia, Austria, Grecia, Eslovenia, Rusia, Israel, Holanda y España.

Esto se debe en gran parte a que de acuerdo al grupo, “es el álbum más completo de la agrupación hasta ahora porque no nos concentramos sólo en un género que es el que hacemos, bachata, aquí tenemos bachata, pero también un poquito de house mezclado con pop”.

Inclusive, hace unos días fueron los invitados de honor en la Casa Blanca por el Presidente de los Estados Unidos, Barack Obama, lo cual consideran un hecho increíble, “cuatro muchachos criados del barrio, de áreas pobres, nunca por nuestras mentes paso conocer al Presidente”.

Premios, reconocimientos y estadios llenos en todo el mundo, esto es sólo un poco de la “aventura” que presentarán en Mèxico durante la gira que ofrecerán a principios del 2010.

Aventura ha llevado la bachata a lo más alto de las listas de popularidad, a las premiaciones musicales más importantes e incluso a la Casa Blanca. Pero ahora el grupo dominicano quiere conquistar el mercado mexicano y no conforme con ello, también le gustaría poner a bailar bachata a Ninel Conde, así como a Rihanna y a Beyoncé.

La banda integrada por Anthony (Romeo), Lenny, Mikey y Henry llegó por primera vez a México para presentar su más reciente producción titulada The Last, con la que logaron posicionarse por 16 semanas consecutivas en el primer lugar del indicador de ventas de la revista Billboard y habló con Univision.com sobre lo que significa este hecho sin precedentes en su trayectoria.

“Hemos tenido éxito. Gracias a Dios y a ese público maravilloso las expectativas han sido excelentes. Lo que soñamos lo logramos y todavía más de lo que esperábamos. Es increíble, el grupo Aventura con ningún disco había durado más de dos semanas y este disco llegó a estar en número uno por 16 semanas. Pasaba una semana y nosotros pensábamos que sería nuestra última semana y llegaba la cuarta semana y comenzamos a acostumbrarnos.

“El grupo ha tenido con esta producción una aceptación rotunda. El primer sencillo Por Un Segundo llegó al número uno, fue la primera vez de una canción de Aventura”, explicó el cantante Romeo Santos.

El cuarteto, que hace unos días logró un American Music Award, en la Categoría de Artistas Favoritos de América Latina, indicó que cada vez los sorprende más la aceptación que tiene su música en el mundo entero.

“Cada día hay más sorpresas, acabamos de ganar un American Music Award, que solamente es de norteamericanos”, dijo Lenny.

si o ultima demonstratie de samba (in postul  asta  , pe urma mai vedem):

ei bine, pentru cei care nu sunt fascinati de salsa si samba mai exista totusi o sansa.  de curand am descoperit un dans dragut numit bachacha. sincer, ma astept ca majoritatea sa stie de dansul asta iar eu sa fiu primul care abia acum a aflat..dar oricum ar fi nu conteaza. uita-te la asta:

daca mi-a scapat vreun clip misto  in genul celor de mai sus –  desi la cate de multe vad acum ca am pus  nu cred  - atunci da-i cu reply-uri si comentarii!

si inca ceva: ce sunt ‘tag’-urile? cum s-ar putea folosi spre exemplu in.. ‘post’-ul asta?..

Ce este bachata? Nu sunt multe persoane care ştiu despre ce e vorba cand aud întrebarea asta. Adevărul e că până acum două luni nici eu n-aş fi ştiut să răspund. Dar am aflat mergând să mă înscriu la cursurile de salsa. Se pare că şcoala respectivă de dans e mai populară pentru cursurile de bachata decât de salsa, aşa că am ajuns să mă înscriu şi la bachata.

Pentru început, puţină teorie. Bachata este un stil de dans latin, provenit din Republica Dominicană. Se dansează pe două măsuri a câte 4 timpi, timpul 4 fiind marcat de o mişcare mai accentuată a şoldului. Am zis mai accentuată pentru că la bachata avem o mişcare constantă a şoldului. Pasul de bază se face în lateral (4 timpi la dreapta, 4 la stânga), iar restul paşilor (pasul 1, pasul 2 etc) sunt împărţiţi altfel sau pe alte direcţii, dar oricum se respectă aceleaşi reguli.

Bachata este considerat cel mai senzual dans. De ce? Pentru că partenerii stau foarte apropiaţi (normal, acest lucru nu este obligatoriu, dar totuşi vorbim despre un dans pasional), iar în poziţia de bază genunchii fetei ţin cât de cât strâns genunchiul băiatului. Astfel picioarele ei se mulează pe piciorul drept al partenerului şi acestuia îi va fi mai uşor să o conducă.

Uite două exemple de bachata pasională!

Am mai găsit un video în care se dansează bachata mai mult la distanţă, ca să se poată face comparaţie:

Figurile din videouri se învaţă sub forma unor manii, la cursurile unde merg eu. Fiecare manie e o combinaţie de paşi, piruete şi elemente de styling. Eu deocamdată am învăţat de la mania 1 pana la mania 5, şi ştiu că sunt cel puţin 9. Oricum, maniile sunt doar un prim pas către un dans mai complex decât paşi de bază şi piruete. Cu timpul, ajungi să improvizezi folosindu-te de anumite părţi dintr-o manie, pentru a crea o figură mai complexă.

Poate că totul pare natural,  spontan şamd, dar ca să iasă aşa trebuie să existe o tensiune între parteneri, pentru ca fata să ştie să primească semnalele date de  băiat. Nu vorbesc despre o tensiune sexuală, ci de una fizică, adică efectiv să ai corpul încordat. Totul constă într-o comunicare prin diferite strângeri de mână, mici “împunsături”.

Cum nu există dans fără muzică, bachata, ca dans, însoţeşte muzica cu acelaşi nume. Cântecele au ca subiect de obicei dragostea neîmplinită sau mai degrabă neîmpărtăşită, iar din formaţiile care cântă bachata, probabil că Aventura e cea mai populară. Dar asta este altă discuţie.

Bachata ist eine Musik- und Tanzrichtung aus der Dominikanischen Republik. Das Spiel der Geschlechter ist durch den engeren Kontakt der Partner noch etwas intensiver als beim Salsa. Aus dem Workshop vor ein paar Wochen weiß ich zwar nur noch die Grundschritte, faszinierend ist es trotzdem.

Ich habe zwei, wie ich finde, schöne Tanzvideos gefunden. Das erste zeigt vermutlich eine Aufführung für Touristen in einem Hotel, ist aber nicht abgehoben, sondern einfach nur lebendig. Seht selbst:

Spinner.com has a lovely piece on Puerto Plata, the 86-year-old Dominican Republic-native singer-guitarist just two years ago made what by any measures would qualify as a belated debut album, Mujer de Cabaret. The new acclaim and attention, the article argues quite convincingly, “brought to his talents and to his style of music—a lively, lilting mix of merengues and boleros that came to be known as bachata after having been suppressed during the brutal rule of Gen. Rafael Trujillo from 1930 until his 1961 assassination—is what’s behind his refreshed attitude.” Puerto Plata has now released his second album, Casitas de campo, “a collection putting the spotlight on fellow Dominican songwriters with energy gained from his unlikely acclaim of the past two years.”

The article is based on on a fascinating interview with the singer and provides links to some of the songs in his new album. Here are some excerpts. With the link to the full article below:

“When I was a child, my uncles were musicians, and when I was in the house I remember hearing them rehearse that song,” says the man born José Cobles, recalling his youth in the coastal town from which he took his performing name. He talks with a hearty, delighted tone from his home in Denver — where he moved in the early ’90s to be with his daughter’s family and worked mostly as a carpenter — translated by his producer, Benjamin de Menil. “The song is about the sort of afternoon breeze, the time of day when the temperature is changing and getting cooler and there’s somebody who is remembering his lost love.”
It’s a literal remembrance of a lost love for Plata — it had been 50 years since he’d heard the song, written by Piro Valerio, a native of Santiago, the Dominican Republic’s second-largest city after Santo Domingo, and he conjured it entirely from memory, a testimony to how in the two years since the debut he has become a living archive of music that was nearly gone, something he never considered possible. He credits the affection from a growing world of fans for the reconnection.
“Before the first album, I was semiretired from music,” he says. “And, of course, everything has changed since then. It’s been an incredible experience to play theaters with large audiences and hearing the applause — not something I would have expected to happen.”
But there’s one place it hasn’t happened: the Dominican Republic.
“We have yet to have him perform in the Dominican Republic,” explains de Menil, though Plata does go back to the island roughly once a year to visit family. “We tried to do some collaborations with the government, especially with the consulates in the U.S. and overseas. And it’s been a lukewarm reception.”

Salsa sau bachata?

In pantofiori de dans pornim spre ritmurile care pun sangele in miscare pana si in cel mai apatic om din lume. Priviri aprinse, emotia unei invitatii la dans, senzualitatea miscarilor si nopti albe in Salsa…iata lucrurile care ne definesc atunci cand ne hotaram sa dedicam ziua de vineri unei seri incinse.

Desi v-am cam pus pe ganduri cu expresia “seara incinsa”, in aceste poze minunate (la care Anca va comenta:D, iar Laura doar se va amuza razand si strigand in acelasi timp Marmotix te omoara Anca:)) ) nu suntem transpirate- cat sa dansezi sa ajungi in halul asta?-, doar ude de la o “superba” ploaie de vara prin care a trebuit sa alergam…

Forrige uke må kunne sees på en travel uke, selv for en student. Jeg hadde mange jern i ilden, og for å ta det kort så uken slik ut. Mandag, skolejobbing med innlevering som skulle inn på fredag. Tirsdag, jobbet videre med innleveringen og dro på jobb. Onsdag, jobbet med innleveringen (ikke så effektivt fordi jeg prøvde å bestemme meg for om jeg skulle takke ja til et jobbtilbud). Torsdag, undervisning, dro til byen, takket ja til jobben!, dro hjem og jobbet videre med innleveringen. Fredag, undervisning, jobbet med innlevering, leverte innlevering, dro på larueda kurs. Lørdag, jobbet, dro på salsa/bachata/larueda fest – slapp unna småkryp i kostymer som hungret etter søtsaker. Søndag, dro tidlig på kurs for å få en kræsjinnføring i hva de andre lærte på lørdag mens jeg jobbet, var på siste del av kurs, dro hjem og slappet av (!).

Så der har dere det, livet er ikke en lek for studenter, selv om det til tider kan virke slik. Så nå har jeg signert kontrakt og skal starte hos KPMG som revisor. Jeg hadde nok aldri trodd jeg skulle ende opp som revisor da jeg i 2004 startet på sykepleien i Kristiansand. Så får vi se i august, hvordan det føles å være revisor. Nå er det tilbake til forelesningen i innovasjonsledelse før jeg skal i møte om masteroppgaven og så lese videre siden det snart er eksamenstid… sukk…
