When your friend comes up to you and shrieks in a high pitched tone that only hyenas can understand, you generally want to cover your ears. When, however, this kind of reaction is followed by her showing her you a new ring on her left hand and you start shrieking just as loud as her: WE (the ‘we’ in this picture is her and all of her close friends) are having a wedding! Yes, she and the fiance are getting married but WE GIRLS are having a wedding!

After the excitement and the yelling, the bride then pops the question, “Will you be my bridesmaid?” Let the shrieking begin all over again!

I love weddings but better yet I love wedding receptions. The food, the decor, the music, the dancing, and to many THE OPEN BAR! Going to wedding receptions are fun but being part of the wedding party, that is a whole another level! A whole another level that is going to leave you BROKE!

There are bridesmaids that complain about how much money they have to shell out for this type of event. But when you are asked, remember your role is already stated in your job’s name. You will be a BRIDESMAID, as in “maid of the bride.” So expect to be told what to do, what to wear, where to go, what to eat for months before, right through the day of the event. Then, after you have safely walked your boss, I mean the bride, down the aisle your will be told bluntly, “Thank you for all your hard work. I have been a bridesmaid three times. Whenever I am asked the procedure is always the same. I start making mental calculations as to how much I am going to spend. The dress, the bachelorette party, the bridal shower gift, the hair, the makeup, the accessories, the wedding gift. Break out the hives! How am I going to pay for all of this?

I know what I must do. I run over to the mall and fill out an application for a part time job! When asked, “Why do I want to work at such and such?”

“Because I just became a bridesmaid!”

I do know that on my friend’s wedding day, the look on her face and how beautiful she will be in her wedding attire will be worth the sacrifices I will make. Even the lime green suede shoes I am forced to buy/wear/keep in a closet for the rest of my life because no one on Ebay wants to buy them and the Goodwill refuses to accept them as donations.

Weddings are scary. Brides and mother-of-the brides even scarier. The cost of being in a wedding: priceless (as in so high there is no numerical number to represent its cost.)

- There’s a dent in my new camera

- I spent a lot of money
- Took 2 advil
- Walked 45 minutes to meet my brother and fiancé
- Went bridesmaid dressing shopping *my brother’s getting married in 2010
- Ate McDonalds (bad, I know)
- Found the dress (it’s beautiful)
- Got an early birthday cake
- Ate Halloween candy
- Changed the clocks
- Watched 30 Rock
- Fell asleep

It was fun and exciting weekend and a great way to spend my weekend before I go on vacation. What did you guys do this weekend???

It is the night before Nick and Coco’s wedding day!

Nick has gotten together with all of his good friends from high school, and is celebrating he last night as a unmarried man.  They’ve spent most of the night watching football, reflecting on their old days together, and playing a little beer pong.  Nick is having a great time and is enjoying himself fully.

Coco, on the other side of town, is at a friend’s house having a little party of her own.  Her friends surprised her with an amazing bachelorette party.  They’ve been dancing to music, making random lip-singing videos, and just having plain old fun.

However, towards the end of the party, Coco’s friend Michelle brings in…a male stripper!  Coco doesn’t know what to do.  She laughs it off at first, and trys to enjoy it.  Coco, realizes, however, that she only has eyes for one man.  And that is Nick.  Coco leaves shortly after the stripper arrives, blaming it on exhaustion.  However, when she leaves, she heads for the park where she first met Nick.  She swings on the playground reflecting on her life with Nick.

Back at Nick’s party, Brian, Nick’s best man, comes into the room with 5 female strippers.  Nick’s friends pressure him into staying, but he just feels uncomfortable with the situation.  Nick thanks his friends, and heads to town.

As Nick is walking around he notices Coco on the playground.  He walks over and they both explain their situations. They both find it funny that they both left, and realize how much they love each other even more.

They both decide to enjoy the rest of their night by going to see a movie.

Nick and Coco are excited for the Big Day!  Are you?

Good morning fellow bloggers!! Ahh- thank GOD it’s friday!!

My performance review went great yesterday- my boss said I “exceeded expectations” on many levels, so that made me happy. It’s always a good feeling when your hard work and ambition is recognized. Hopefully by Christmas the economy is looking up enough that we get our full bonuses in January. I could use a holiday, and my RRSP’s are looking a little scarce these days.

So it’s kind of a running joke at work that both my boss and I are obsessed with the show “The Bachelor(ette)”. She informed me that some of the top Bachelors from last season are going to be at the Calgary Women’s Show tomorrow, so I’m rounding up my troops for a day of scoping out sexy men. I’ve got to get my kicks somehow- afterall I did hide my Plenty Of Fish profile for the time being. No more dating for me!

Well that’s all of my random babbles this morning… I have something else I wanted to talk about but I’ll put that in a separate post.

So, were there any love matches, that’s what I want to know. The New Zealand Matchmaking flight took off on Oct 13th (read my previous post about it here) with the Bachelor’s very own Jason Mesnick and ultimate fiance-winning Molly Malaney and I wasn’t on it. I should have been covering it – but then again, at least I don’t have jet lag since I spent the weekend at Blue Mountain instead – a two-hour drive rather than a gazillion-hour flight. Mind you, that long flight would have been filled with embarrassing singles games (always fun) and plenty of spying on the 100 or so singles angling to get close to their chosen potential dates. And who doesn’t like to spy? Oh, and Jason and Molly were apparently doling out dating tips (why does that scare me?) which, if the flight didn’t pan out, singles could then apply [said tips] to any unsuspecting Kiwi singles … a veritable Trojan Horse of Love (no Trojan puns intended).

All the single ladies, all the single ladies!  Well, and single guys too.  Yesterday, bachelors and bachelorettes in Hangzhou flocked to a grand blind date party, scouring personal ads hung clothes-line-style to find that special someone.  The event, which was televised nationwide, is one of many blind date parties becoming popular in China.
