You may have noticed that i have been slightly absent of late. Sorry about that…I have an exam on Wednesday so I have been distracted from the loveliness…this is will never do! I will be back once it’s done and I have recovered from the brain-melting questions though.

I am finally going on holiday (my last trip away was in 2006) and will be flying out to Jamaica on April 20th.

Pray for me folks I HATE flying but I look forward to seeing the fam and a change of scenery and climate.

T-mobile with their extortionate overseas usage costs have assured me that my BB will work out there. It better!

Hello everyone i have been so busy checked the e-mails and i have 32 e-mails from fans asking when are we back online. We are offline in till Citybeat youngstar returns in April time witch will be very busy for us because i will have to update every day! Also we might even team up with them to get the leatest news and gossip also i might even help some of the youngstars get some support! Back soon

Life seems to be a complete nightmare at the moment. I’ve been getting really behind on school work, which has resulted in me spending most of my time panicking and not doing said school work. I then end up ill, because I can’t sleep when I’m panicked and I start eating just about everything I shouldn’t (plus, there’s all sorts of colds and stomach bugs going round at the moment.) Added on top of that is all my joints being bad because of the cold weather, and me not getting enough rest. This then works me up even more, and I just end up on a continuous downwards spiral.

Added on top of that is all my other commitments, which just drain away more time until I’m left with no time to do the work that was panicking me in the first place. Then I start looking at all the bad things (eg. my moped breaking down, the vending machine eating my money) and not the good things (eg. spending time with my friends, etc.) In general, life isn’t all that great by the end.

I think I’m starting to get things sorted now (after a bit of a breakdown on Thursday, which resulted in me spending most of my day cring and sleeping.) But don’t expect to here much from me for a while, I don’t feel all that up to human contact beyond people I have to talk to.

The last few weeks have been full of excitement, ups and downs, and nary a moment to tend to this blog. I suspect that it will remain so in the following weeks as well, please bear with me! My husband and I hope to close escrow on our first house today, with luck it will actually happen. It has been pushed back twice now, so we’re hoping that the third time is the charm. We’ll be spending time there fixing the house up, but I’ll hope to have lots of photos to share here. I’m getting really excited!

Back soon, la última cinta de Sólveig Anspach, se hace con el Giraldillo de Oro en el Sevilla Festival de Cine Europeo, que ha proyectado 140 cintas en su quinta edición. La denuncia de la mafia italiana, con Gomorra e Il Divo, también reciben premios.

“Al final triunfó la del ganso”, publica el día del palmarés el diario español EL PAÍS. En efecto, esta comedia híbrida franco-islandesa entre canalla y poética ya estrenada en Islandia y Francia ha calado hondo entre los espectadores hasta el punto de despedirla por la puerta grande. Sólveig Anspach, su autora, viene de Islandia, es de padre americano y de madre islandesa y su amplia formación en cine, filosofía y psicología procede de París. Anspach nos cuenta en Back soon la historia de Anna, una enclenque pero enérgica poetisa que, harta de la Reykjavick bajo cero, decide liarse la manta a la cabeza e ir en busca de nuevas aventuras por el mundo, pero antes tendrá que deshacerse de sus trapicheos como camella, de un ganso que se traga su móvil y de un ensimismado estudiante francés que la idolatra. El Giraldillo de Oro se le traduce a la directora islandesa en 60.000 € para la distribución de su cinta en España.

Katia’s sister, por su parte, se lleva la Plata y 30.000 € para su distribución española. De la prolífica pero joven directora holandesa, Mijke de Jong, el filme se basa en la novela del español Andrés Barba y presenta con gran expectación la otra cara de la libertad sexual en Holanda: inmigración, prostitución y drogas en las calles de Ámsterdam.

Las ásperas y crudas denuncias de la corrupción italiana entusiasman en medio de un panorama gris donde las secciones paralelas despiertan más interés que las presentadas en la Sección Oficial, aunque ésta cuente con algunas joyas de lo más ‘indie’ como la germano-finesa Black ice, que dirige Petri Kotwica. Gomorra se lleva el Premio de Especial del Jurado retratando la mafia napolitana e Il Divo, dirigida por Paolo Sorrentino, el Premio Euroimages caricaturizando al político italiano Giulio Andreotti.

La obras del recién ingresado como académico en la Real Academia Española José Luis Borau y del mítico director que llevase a la gran pantalla obras de Dickens, David Lean se presentan en Sevilla Festival de Cine Europeo como reclamos para la audiencia. Clásicos como Lawrence de Arabia, El puente sobre el río Kwai o Pasaje a la India no dejan de levantar pasiones entre el público.

Pero de entre las candidatas a Gran Premio del Público, ha sido la taquillera en Francia Bienvenidos al norte, de Dany Boon, la que se lleva la palma y el premio. Los documentales tampoco se quedan atrás en el cine europeo; el festival sevillano también otorga un premio a la Sección Eurodoc, que esta vez ha recaído sobre La madre, del suizo Antoine Cattin y el ruso Pavel Kostamarov. Ciento cuarenta cintas que han dado para una semana de cine en Sevilla en la que el ávido público entusiasta por conocer la diversa Europa a través de la pantalla ha conseguido abarrotar las taquillas superando en el tercer día la venta de abonos de la edición entera del año pasado. ¡Hasta la próxima!

Yes, I have to dedicate myself to this and henceforth I will try to blog at least every day, even if it’s only a short phrase or two, a pithy or otherwise observation to show that I care about my readers (which I do of course!).

So let’s see, since my last update

Sunday was a lazy day around the homestead. Monday I went to work but as it was a “DONSA” (day of no scheduled activity) none of the military and only a few civilians were in. My next-door-cubicle friend GG even wore jeans. He looks better in jeans, sort of boyish, even though he’s four years older than me. Because we were let out 59 minutes early (supervisors can dismiss employees up to but not including one hour early) I went over to the gym (very little EC) and did sixty minutes.

Today I went to the gym really early and did quite a bit, upper body (less shoulders and much chest) and lower body (less hip abductors and adductors). Tomorrow it’ll be just cardio on the treadmill.

I need to try out shrugs, rotator cuffs and prone flyes at home (in the privacy thereof) AND to figure out how to use the ‘freedom trainer‘ at the gym. I did find this one exercise that looks pretty useful, but since the darn thing’s right in front of everyone, I have to be ready to swing the arms just perfect pretty much instantly or look a right pillock. Does anyone have any advice?

Movies You Should Watch

One:  Back Soon. It’s really good, and a lovely twist on Ghost and Prelude to a Kiss. You have to overlook some rather badly developed characters and some stilted dialogue, but other than that, the plot is more developed and inventive than a lot of gay-themed indies.

Two:  Strange Fruit: Although you can see the ‘twist’ a mile off, and although I don’t really think southerners are quite as nasty as portrayed, this is a good film with some palpable tension and a handsome lead (Kent Faulcon).

I’ll have a few more recommendations (commandments really!) later.

In Keeping With the Military Theme of the Day

Los islandeses no se conforman con ver adaptaciones de libros en las salas de cine. Sólveig Anspach, de padre americano, madre islandesa y formada en París en filosofía y psicología clínica y la escuela de cine Fémis, forma parte del actual boom creativo de la cinematografía islandesa, a pesar de que esta cinta de la cineasta Anspach sea la única procedente de Islandia que podamos ver en esta 5ª edición del Sevilla Festival de Cine Europeo.

Back soon, ya estrenada en agosto en Islandia y Francia, deja un regusto de alegría vital, como las canciones de Sigur Ròs; el mismo que hace que Anna (la actriz protagonista magistralmente interpretada por Didda Jónsdóttir) ponga un globo terráqueo sobre la mesa y decida con sus dos hijos su destino azarosamente. Pero la decisión final de liarse la manta a la cabeza no estará exenta de un truculento camino a modo de via crucis de liberación. Anna sabe que necesita un cambio, está cansada de la vida bajo cero en Reykjavik, pero antes de llegar a la decisión de salir primero tiene que desligarse de sus negocios como traficante de marihuana en medio de toda esta historia con mucho de road movie y comedia híbrida.

Un ensimismado francés estudiante de la poesía escandinava en general y de la de Anna en particular, será el compañero de andanzas de la protagonista, que tendrá que sortear situaciones comprometedoras con un humor frío y seco como recurso, entre ellas deshacerse de un ganso que se ha tragado su móvil y nadie se atreve a matar, un hombre que intenta suicidarse que después es alentado a la vida por una joven creyente en dios. En definitiva, igual de bien que los Sigur Rós saben hacerlo en música, Anspach nos invita en el cine sin demoras a la vida.

Today’s post is something of a non-post because I’m in the middle of moving to a different apartment (more on that when I’ve got time) and – horror of horrors – it doesn’t have an internet connection yet. Fortunately just about every bar, café and shopping mall in the immediate area does, and these are free to use, so I can always go and sit on a bench somewhere and check my email. But if you think I’m going to walk to the mall in the cold and wet to post endless blog entries for you, you’re sadly mistaken! This is your lot, for now.

Oh – well, apart from a Very Important Announcement. Following the general enthusiasm over my humble Silly Hat, knitted last week, I’ve decided to try out a little money-making venture whilst providing you, my dear readers, with a very worthwhile service. From today, I shall be making Silly Hats for anyone who wants them. Are you excited? Are you?!

I’ll be back when I get internet access. And in the meantime, I’ll be knitting, I suppose…

This blog means a lot to me, believe it or not.  I can express my thoughts here and actually find an audience.  In real life, my audience pays me to talk about stuff that isn’t really that fun, but that is important to those who employ me.  I’m not complaining about it, it’s part of my living.  However, my job is all consuming and it takes me away from creative fun stuff.  So my videos suffer and Friday Night Party Line goes on hiatus.

The end is in sight, however, for this year at least.  By the end of next week, my travels will be over for this year.  This means I can spend more time doing fun internet stuff.  I have an idea for a video involving moding a broken laptop using power tools!  I also have 3 computers I want to build  And of course FNPL will be back.

So it’s just a matter of time really and then I’ll be having fun again.

El propósito de la organización del certamen, cuya inauguración se celebrará el siete de noviembre y su clausura el quince, se manifiesta a través de una gran variedad en casi todos los sentidos: secciones, temáticas, países de origen, ciclos y horarios.

Abrirá el festival ‘Gomorra’, basado en el libro homónimo de Roberto Saviano en el que retrata a la Mafia napolitana y por el que se encuentra amenazado de muerte. Todo un mensaje del Festival en defensa de la libertad de expresión y de apoyo al escritor italiano.

Esta quinta edición tendrá una presencia muy destacada del cine andaluz, con más de una docena de cintas por medio de las que tratarán de exportar el producto y la cultura de la comunidad al continente. Podrán verse todas las tardes en el Teato Lope de Vega.

El festival homenajeará a David Lean, del que se cumple su centenario, y José Luis Borau, a través de sendos recorridos por sus respectivas filmografías. El director zaragozano ingresará en la Real Academia Española el domingo siguiente a la clausura de Sevilla Fesival de Cine.

Se ha reservado un ciclo al prestigioso cine danés, célebre por haber impulsado junto a otros el llamado Movimiento Dogma, con la proyección de largometrajes de Lars Von Trier, Thomas Viterberg o Soren Kragh-Jacobsen.

Por otra parte, el festival será por cuarto año consecutivo el lugar donde se anunciarán las candidaturas a los Premios de la Academia Europea de Cine (EFA), protagonistas de una sección y en los que tres títulos españoles se encuentran preseleccionados: Caótica Ana, dirigida por Julio Medem; Tres días, de Francisco Javier Gutiérrez; y El orfanato, de Juan Antonio Bayona. Ésta última, junto a REC, han sido también seleccionadas para optar al Premio del Público a la Mejor Película Europea.

Por último, cabe destacar una nueva sección denominada ‘Midnight Cinema’, que repondrá clásicos europeos del género de terror a partir de la medianoche.

I’m off the the UK for a naming ceremony and a birthday party.  Hopefully I’ll have something interesting to say when I get back because my life lately had been very, very dull* busy but dull.
