Everyone does their hair and make-up uniquely and suits different things. This aside, there are so

Everyone does their hair and make-up uniquely and suits different things. This aside, there are some looks that are NEVER acceptable. Here’s a run down of some of the worst.

Foundation Lips

This is probably the most classically contested look. I’m sorry girls, but this just looks silly. Period. If you’re after a 60s Twiggy style nude look then use an appropriate lipstick with a light pinky hue to it.

Too Much Foundation

It is definitely not flattering to just wear foundation, especially a heavy one. Without at least a sweep of mascara and some colour on your cheeks, you will look pallid and, well, pants. Try a lightly tinted moisturiser or a BB cream instead. On the note of too much foundation, make sure to blend well at your jaw bone and round your temples to avoid the mask look.

Not Enough Foundation

If you are going for a heavy eye look, this really needs to be ballanced by a full face look. Smoky eyes with an uneven skin tone will make you look half finished. Don’t forget to give your cheeks some colour although avoid dark lips if you are focusing on your eyes.

Fake Tanned Body; Pale Face

Nothing gives the game away more than tanned arms and legs and a chalk-white face. If you plan on tanning your body you really should tan your face too or invest in a darker foundation. Of course, fake tan in a whole other issue but I won’t divulge into it. What I will say, however, is you get what you pay for- a ‘natural-looking tan’ doesn’t come with a £4.99 price tag.

Dark Hair; Light Roots

I would argue this is a much worse look than the other way round. Usually darker colours are easier to maintain but if you go from very fair to very dark, get any roots seen to pronto!

You thought doing make up was fun, well try doing it blind folded! this is fun because when you take the blind fold off, your friend’s face will probably be covered with eye shadow or other types of make up where it’s not supposed to be. you will laugh your sox off! you will need:

;

eye shadow

lipstick

blush

eye liner

blind fold
Now that you have your supplies. You might want to videotape the artist at work. It will be a very “educational” by that I mean FUNNY!

After a bad experience at a Cosmetics counter, Carly felt overwhelmed, anxious and nervous about her

After a bad experience at a Cosmetics counter, Carly felt overwhelmed, anxious and nervous about her trial with a Bridal Makeup Artist. Her had experience was at a cosmetics counter where she asked for a “Bridal make-up Look” and felt like she left with what she called a “tranny make-up look.” See for yourself below:

NOT Charlottesville Makeup Artist!

NOT Charlottesville Makeup Artist 2

This is NOT a “go to bridal look.” I would personally only recommend something like this, if the Bride wanted something like this. Carly wanted to look like the beautiful Bride she IS, NOT someone different…

Helping Brides like Carly is such a gratifying experience for me as a professional Make-up Artist who does makeup on-site for weddings in Charlottesville VA. After a bad experience, she really needed my help, and I was so excited to help her turn her worries into smiles! Clients like Carly are such a gratifying experience. Carly is the type of girl who KNOWS the difference between not-so-good-makeup and GREAT make up. Often times Brides have no idea what they want, which is just fine because as a Wedding Makeup Artist in Charlottesville VA, I run into this a lot!

Sometimes though, I come across a Bride who loves makeup (almost as much as I do!) and really wants things done RIGHT. Carly was one of those Charlottesville Brides! Meet Carly in her before picture BELOW:

Makeup Artist Charlottesville _ BEFORE

After hearing her story, I felt for her. No Bride should feel like this! Your Wedding Day Makeup should be flawless and beautiful, and look like a gorgeous version of who you really are… NOT like a totally different person. Carly said it was “too much.” And that she felt like someone pretending to look like a “clown” rather than a natural looking Bride.

I encouraged Carly to bring her Fiancé, Andrew along not just for support, but for a second opinion. And that’s what she did. Anyone who knows Charlottesville Makeup, knows that I LOVE an audience! I always encourage Brides-to-be to bring whoever they want to their Make-up Trial Session! In fact, the more the merrier! I want my Brides to feel totally happy and confident after a bridal makeup session with me, and if that means calling in reinforcements and a second opinion, great! After her trial with Charlottesville Makeup Artist, she felt so much better! Check out her gorgeous face below:

Make up Artist Charlottesville _ AFTER (Eyes)

Make-up Artist Charlottesville _ AFTER

After we were finished, Carly had Andrew take a quick look at her. His reaction was MUCH better than it was after the previous makeup person in Virginia. He said (and I quote) “WOW! That looks TEN TIMES BETTER than before! That looks really good…I like that A LOT.”

Now THAT’S the kind of reaction we were going for!

Hope that helps!

Yours Truly,

One thing they still can’t seem to get right in movies is “old people” make-up. C’mon. Can’t you get an old actor to play this role instead of Guy Pearce? I mean, he didn’t even appear as his own age in the actual movie. They could’ve chosen from thousands of REAL AND STILL LIVING geriatrics. But, nooooo. They had to go and get some guy born in ’67 to act like he was actually born in movie time 1967 or … wait. WAIT. Does this mean they’re going to do a prequal to this prequal because they HERD I LIEK PREKWLZ? And they’ll need a young Guy Pearce to play a young Weyland and therefore… Eh. Nevermind. Anyhow. Enjoy the delightfully golden text I added to some of these bad screenshots I had to work with.

Well thanks Kristy, for pointing me in the direction of pictures of the face that guards that gates

Well thanks Kristy, for pointing me in the direction of pictures of the face that guards that gates of hell – finally I can stop sweating and tossing and turning as the ghost of Karl K*nterfeld yells in my ear all night that I’m a ‘FAT VILE PEEG!’. Instead, I will be forever haunted by this image and although it’s equally as bad, a change is as good as a rest.

Yes, Tyra Banks- host of America’s Next Top Model risked all future show contestants whipping printed of pictures of this out of their handbags and slapping her around the face with it on TV every time she even mentions something about modelling or fashion or beauty or anything to do with the industry.

She was at an event called The Moth Ball and, believe you me, I can find no pictures online to justify it being some kind of early May Hallowe’en bash. There’s actually only one rational explanation for it.

My “auntie”* (family friend, to be polite as a kid in the UK when I was a nipper you usually call your parents close friends ‘Auntie’ or ‘Uncle’ and every one else ‘Mr or Mrs So and So’- well, I did, fooking manners, me) once got really hammered on a TransAtlantic flight. She was so wasted that airline staff had to wheel her off in a wheelchair and her horrified husband had the horror of having to collect her at the arrivals gate. She had lipstick allllll over her face as she’d put it on while they were landing in a bid to seem sober. – I mean, no drunk person would be wearing make-up- right??? (alcohol-haze logic FAIL).

So, methinks Tyra hit the old Martinis in the afternoon before the event and then panic-plastered on the slap with a shovel in a bid to appear fresh-faced. – We’ve all been there.

It would certainly seem to explain this picture she tweeted of her sniffing a cheeseburger.

*That story was not me, that time. That story you’re thinking of was a different time.

So news this week that Lauren Goodger is being axed from TOWIE for diva behaviour. Doesn’t surprise me as quite a few of these reality stars often believe their own hype and next thing they know they’re serving you at Pizza Hut. Working in PR, I’ve met my fair share. It’s remarkable how in the first year of stardom they are nice and eager and a year later they tut when you talk.

One thing I can credit Lauren with improvement is her make-up. Remember Series 1 when all the girls’ bronzer was less about contoring and more about dunking it on? Lauren is a naturally attractive girl but all that makeup, well….

What did she do wrong? It’s all too much – if you’re going to put red lipstick (and by god woman please blot it in the toilets before you go out to be papped) than just put mascara on the eyes, with eyeliner if you must.

It didn’t help that she had her lips done so that her top lip is bigger than her bottom (don’t do this unless you want everyone in the world to know you have had filler and then what’s the point in that?), so when pouting she creates an unnatural and rather odd duck look.

Despite her lip augmentation, her make-up has improved quite dramatically and she has credited the help to a make-up artist which accounts for her more subtle look. It’s less busy. Her brows are a bit darker (probably to do with her newly tattoed eyebrows) although she could do with leaving them to look more natural (as bottom image shows) and she still wears too much make-up on a daily basis….

I did tweet Lauren and compliment her on her latest eyeshadow asking what brand she uses but didn’t hear back. I imagine she’s busy creating her next TV show “Lauren’s Way now that I’m not in TOWIE and OMG it’s so much better”, coming to DMAX soon.

Oh Snookie. I get it there’s a special Jersey Shore Club that your in and we’re not. But this look is bad. From her eyes down she’s all one color, Orange. And then the blue eye shadow! Yuck. Perhaps she’s getting into the spirit of halloween, which I am all for, but it’s still september Snook. Lets try out the Pumpkin costume in October(and I’m sure she will). And those extensions….I’d prefer the comeback of the poof.

P.S. I know this isn’t a fashion blog but her use of the Louis Vuitton make-up bag as a clutch really bugs me. And the rest of the outfit is just put together poorly. All the pieces on their own are pretty lame, all together she just looks like a hot mess.

Love You Snook, and I’ll be watching the Shore on Thursday no matter what color you decide to be that day.

Makeup can make you look great, and at the same time damage your skin as well! Many women tend to us

Makeup can make you look great, and at the same time damage your skin as well! Many women tend to use the same old makeup products for a long time. ( I know, it is so hard to get rid of it when you finally have it) On the other hand, some women are very curious about the newly introduced products and immediately go for them when sold in the market. Are these practices good? Have you ever thought about the harmful effects of using bad makeup?

The easiest way to find out whether you are using a bad makeup or not, you should calculate how long you’ve been using it. If you have been using a cosmetic product for more than six months, then it is time to go for a new one as the old ones could spoil your skin. If your old makeup products can be this harsh to your skin, imagine how bad old mascara or eyeliners could be to your eyes?

It is quite difficult to find out the manufactured date or expiry date of certain products as some products may not have them. The best way is to change your makeup set every six months or at least once a year. This way you can stay away from most of the skin problems.

Another criterion to save your skin from bad makeup is to stop applying them often. Many women have the habit of giving a touch-up every now and then. Skin pores should not be blocked and should breath e freely. When you use make up often, the makeup gets clogged in the pores and leads to further problems.

In order to retain a healthy skin and protect it from chemicals, it is wise to consult a makeup professional. You will be directed as what type of makeup is ideal for your skin and how often you can use them.

GIALLO (2009)
A Film Review by L.L. Soares

GIALLO, like a lot of Dario Argento’s recent films, is a mixed bag. Referring to both the color yellow (‘giallo” is Italian for yellow), and the pulp paperbacks with yellow covers that featured the violent mystery stories which gave the Italian genre of books and films its name, GIALLO gives us a fairly straightforward tale of a serial killer known only as Giallo/Yellow (Byron Deidra), who drives a cab through the busy streets of Milan. He is drawn to beauty, and when a beautiful woman gets into his cab, chances are good she won’t be heard from again. In his apartment building, there are catacombs beneath the house that give him lots of places to hide his prey. He tortures them until they die, and then he moves on to the next one.

When a model named Celine (Elsa Pataky) becomes Giallo’s latest victim, her sister Linda (Emmanuelle Seigner), who has just arrived from the airport, is determined that her sister will not become just another statistic. Refusing to give up, she turns to Inspector Enzo Avolfi (Oscar-winner Adrien Brody), a former New York cop who now solves the more gruesome crimes that arise in Milan. Allegedly a master of detection, Inspector Avolfi seems almost like a modern-day Sherlock Holmes, except for one thing. Where Holmes was mostly infallible, Enzo is not always so good at his job.

Avoiding the kind of stylish visuals he is known for, Argento mostly plays things straight here. Too straight. There’s nothing especially unique about this film, nothing that really stands out, except for Brody, who turns in an okay performance in an otherwise pedestrian film. There is absolutely no evidence here that GIALLO was directed by the same guy who gave us SUSPIRIA (1977) or OPERA (1987). I’m really starting to wonder if the real Argento has been replaced with a pod person!

When we finally see Yellow, who gets his name because of jaundice due to a liver disease, he’s a guy with an awful make-up job and a giant nose. I guess he was supposed to be deformed, and this should explain to us why he hates beauty so much, but he’s just incredibly fake-looking. Every time he was onscreen, I was reminded of those over-the-top goofy villains from the DICK TRACY movie (1990). That alone made me want him to get caught and get his comeuppance. Yellow, as a source of menace, is just plain laughable!

And the killer is not much of an adversary for Brody. He’s such a dim-witted fool he makes Enzo seem like a genius. But Yellow has one advantage—a thorough knowledge of the catacombs. And it is this knowledge that gives him the upper hand in at least one key scene.

I remember when Argento’s MOTHER OF TEARS came out in 2009, some people gave me a hard time for praising it so highly. But the truth is, it was a rare time in recent memory when Argento seemed at all passionate about his work, instead of just going through the motions. Even if you hated the more campy elements of MOTHER, you couldn’t miss the fact that here was a stylist, having fun, perhaps at his audience’s expense. But at least it felt vibrant at times, alive. That’s been something rare in Argento’s recent work.

There’s no such feeling with GIALLO. It is drab and workmanlike. There is no art here to be seen. And it’s rather forgettable once the final credits roll.

For someone considered a master of disturbing visuals and surreal atmosphere, there’s none of that to be found. The only visual that we remember is of the killer – a preposterous fool whose appearance generates more laughs than scares. I haven’t seen this bad a make-up job in a horror movie in a long time.

It’s ironic that GIALLO was pulled from distribution shortly after its release in America. Due to a financial dispute with the producers who failed to pay him, Brody’s contract stipulated that his image couldn’t be used by the film until financial matters were corrected. The irony is, Brody is the only really reason to see this one. I saw it on Cable OnDemand during its brief run here in the summer of 2010, but now it’s unavailable. It’s not that big of a tragedy, because it’s pretty forgettable, but if the money people behind GIALLO really want to recoup their expenses, they would best pay Brody what he is due. This is minor Argento, given a slight boost by the presence of an actor who deserves more respect than he got here.

I give this movie one and a half knives. The only actor who stands out in this one is Brody, despite that fact that this is not one of his more memorable roles. And I chuckled at the hilarious make-up job on Byron Deidra.

Recently, I was at a cosmetic store, trying to buy somenecessary make-up, and hopefully without going over my budget. But you know howthese shops are. Every single fault of your skin is brought to attention underthe oh-so-unflattering white lighting. I have always been lazy and frankly it’dbe nice to have some efficient product take care of my skin- doing most of thework. So yeah, I am more of the type to go for the concealer to hide the skinsunder my eyes rather than taking care of my face with masks regularly.

Oh, and I do have dark circles under my eyes. I don’t knowwhat the hell is wrong with my skin because those circles have been there for along time. It doesn’t matter how well or little sleep I get, they are justthere (so you have tips for me, go ahead and leave them in the comments. I’llbe more than grateful). Anyway, after I got my mascara and being totally putoff by my skin, I wanted to look for a concealer. The sales-girl was suggestingthat I should use almond oil for my eyelashes. What? Remembering to put on mascara is enough trouble! And then shesuggested, if I were to use a concealer, I should put it on after putting on alayer of face cream. What face cream? I am not using anti-aging stuff just yet.My dermatologist had suggested it is ok if I started them at 27 and so I amthinking, there is still a little time (OK, I am turning 27 next year). Thesales girl was certain I was already too late. Of course she has a commission-basedjob. So we started talking to anothersales girl who started talking about a set which would easily set me back$100-150. She waswearing too much make-up for a day job. The powder she was using wasn’t exactly her color and you could soobviously tell it was powder. And shewasn’t pretty. At all. Isn’t make-up all about hiding your faults, accentuatingyour good qualities and well, making you look prettier? Anyway- I wasn’t aboutto take skin advice from a girl whose skin wasn’t exactly glowing withradiance. So no, of course I didn’t buy the expensive stuff. I am seeing mydermatologist next week and get some brand recommendations from her. 1) She isnot on commission. 2) She is an expert 3) and yeah, she is also pretty andknows her make-up.

Just like you wouldn’t take relationship advice from aserial cheater, you shouldn’t take make-up advice from just any store employee.I am just saying.
NONE of the ingredients below are part of anything that you use on a daily basis:

Paraben and formaldehyde preservatives. – Natural products can be preserved more naturally, for example with vitamin C and other material that comes from nature.

Propylene glycol and polyethylene glycol (including ingredients based on these). – These can be substituted by natural glycerin with the same effect; it is very gentle and gives the most delicate skin

Petrochemicals, mineral oil and silicones. – As an example, in lipsticks we find a lot of petrochemicals, including mineral oils and various waxes. Why? Use certified organic mineral colors, plant waxes and natural oils to create lipsticks in beautiful colors that moisturize the lips at the same time.

Artificial fragrances. – Herbs like lavender, petit grain and rosemary are great. They are not only having wonderful therapeutic effects, but provide the natural scent of nature…. so why use artificial fragrances?

Sodium laureth / lauryl sulfates and other sulfate-based ingredients. – shampoos and shower gels should be made from foaming ingredients made from sugar, which is a much healthier alternative.

LOVE YOUR SKIN LOVE YOUR BODY:) LOVE YOUR MIND LOVE YOURSELF

There’s an oil spill in U.S. bathrooms that’s roughly the same size as the BP disaster in the Gulf of Mexico. It’s coming from the petrochemical-based cosmetics we’re rubbing into our hair and skin and rinsing down the drain.

U.S. oil addiction isn’t limited to the fuel in our cars. If you know what to look for, you’ll find it everywhere, even in the grocery store’s health and beauty aisle.

Girls, please wipe off that HORRIBLE make-up and pick up a book by Bobbi Brown. You obviously don

Girls, please wipe off that HORRIBLE make-up and pick up a book by Bobbi Brown.

You obviously don’t know what you’re doing.

This blog idea came to me as I stalked a friend of a friend on facebook. She looked like a tranny who slept in her make up (which trannies NEVER do, they know better) and went out with that face the next day. I used Bobbi’s instructions, for a flawless face, straight off of her website.

Foundation

Swatch a few shades of yellow-toned Foundation on the side of your face and check the colors in natural light. The shade that disappears is the right one.

Use your fingers or a makeup sponge to spot-apply foundation where skin needs to be evened out- around the nose and mouth where there’s redness. For full, all-over coverage, use a Foundation Brush to apply and blend foundation.

Bobbi Brown Apples Make Up PROPERLY

Powder/Bronzer

For crease-free wear, apply Loose Powder over concealer using an Eye Blender or Powder Puff.

If you have an oily t-zone, apply powder to the rest of your face using a Powder Puff or Powder Brush.

To add a warm tint to skin, dust Bronzing Powder over cheeks, forehead, nose, and chin using the Bronzer Brush. (Don’t go crazy, this AIN’T Jersey Shore.)

Blush

Smile and dust a neutral shade of Blush on the apples of cheeks with the Blush Brush. Blend up towards the hairline, then downwards to soften color.

Layer a pop of bright blush, applied just on the apples of cheeks, over the neutral shade for a longer lasting look.

Lip Gloss

Use the natural coloring of your lips as a guide when choosing your everyday Lipstick shade. The most flattering shade will either match or be slightly darker than your lips.

Eye Shadow

Sweep a light Eye Shadow color from lashline to browbone using the Eye Shader Brush.

Dust a medium Eye Shadow color on the lower lid, up to the crease, using the Eye Shadow Brush. (If it’s any darker I will assume you’re in theater and need to be seen from the balcony. Don’t make me assume.)

Eye Liner

Line the upper lash-line with a dark Eye Shadow color applied with the Eyeliner Brush. For a longer-lasting look, dampen brush before dipping into shadow. Or, use Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner and the Ultra Fine Eyeliner Brush.

If you also line the lower lashline, make sure top and bottom liner meet at the outer corner of the eye. (Not on the inside of your eyes, that’s gross.)

Mascara

True black Mascara makes the most impact. Choose brown for a softer look. (Blondes and redheads especially should rarely use black mascara, in my opinion.) When applying mascara, brush from base of lashes to tips while rolling the wand to separate lashes and avoid clumps. (I apply mine in a zig-zag as I move out, let it dry, then apply another coat. Three coats for a night on the town.)

She applied more than three coats.

If you choose to curl lashes, be sure to do this before applying mascara; curling lashes after mascara makes them more prone to breakage.”

This advice came right off of her site: http://www.bobbibrowncosmetics.com/

I guess the ad worked. It made me stop and look at it. Even take a screen shot of it. I guess the next time I am going to advertise something on the web I am gonna use this exact same picture regardless of what the product may be. While sex has proven time and time again to sell, Awkward pictures of Oprah sell just as well. If not better.

I took my best friend to get her eyebrows threaded this past week. If you haven’t been intro

I took my best friend to get her eyebrows threaded this past week. If you haven’t been introduced to threading it’s murder, but the end result’s fabulous!

After our torture session, I needed to go and get curtains from JC Penny’s to replace the ones Crazy Daisy destroyed. We walked in and couldn’t resist going over to the make up section to admire our newly shaped brows and see if we could have one of the girls show us how to do smokey eyes.

Rachel went first and the girl was really good, telling her about the brushes and techniques she was using, not to mention she had nice lids herself, which I think is reeeeeally important! If your makeup artist doesn’t sport good makeup ”RUN” or you may end up looking like this…

The girl Rachel had selected to do her eye makeup was really good and gave her the smouldering look she was going for. Unfortunately for me, she was going on break when it came time for my eyes.

There were two other girls there, one older who had decent makeup, but of course she wasn’t feeling well… get where this is going yet? YEP I was left with the girl who had crappy lids. I’m not kidding, she looked like she’d taken charcoal and spread it on like butter, then put powder over it to try and soften the look. I knew before she started that I was going to end up looking like a drag queen gone extremely wrong and the looks Rachel kept giving me over the girl’s shoulder while she was caking my eyelids confirmed my gut feeling. I kid you not it looked terrible, but of course I didn’t want to hurt her feelings or piss on her dream of aspiring to makeup artist for the stars. So I told her I wasn’t keen on it but left it on and walked through the store to get my curtains. Even the lady who helped me find my curtains couldn’t take her eyes off my hideous lids. When I realized she wasn’t going to ask me where’d you get that color? I grabbed my bag and headed out of the store with Rachel giggling beside me.

When I got out to the car, in the sunlight, I could’ve cried it was that bad, but ended up in hysterics instead. I grabbed a wipe and tried like hell to get it all off, but she’d put on the base primer, you know the one that says “longer lasting”, damn the one time I get ”long lasting” and it actually works. Sigh!

20 wipes and 3 brillo pads later I got it off. At least Rachel and I got a great ab work out with all the giggling and laughing we did . ~grin~
