I examined Malaysia’s new highway discount policy here and concluded that its not going to make much difference. The Star’s poll says 83% of road users won’t qualify for the discount, effectively qualifying my assertion in the previous posting (if you believe in online polls).

On the other hand, Mahathir carried his own poll here. Conclusion? Mahathir at odds with the decision of the government (Again!).

Other news, former PM Abdullah Badawi now says ISA should be repealed. This is funny, because during his time, he sacked his own minister (Zaid Ibrahim) when Zaid said the same thing.

‘The eye does not see what the mind does not know’

I have the array. The array of perpetual sleeplessness. Spawning the array of discomfort. Funny when the word hits, I think of lights. Light laid down on barren land giving life to flowers plants trees and rainforest. Sort of like in an inverted world where lights is ground and content is unnecessary. I am bliss living in the womb of intangible necessity. If hands could function. Imagine the dysfunctional syndromes of the functional.

This is when taste seizes. And seizure manifest itself as prime forms of survival. Where mental disabilities would reign and intellectual non profit organizations would hold international leaders with heads in their belly drooling liquid serpent spit. Coming back with blistering arguments of coherence. Muttering their superiority with a mental foulness that will overthrow the systemization of status. Of product. Their hands and organs hang like limbs from a tree. They kiss and reproduce in reversals. Bearing, rather debearing children, that unearth into vanishing forms of incognito. Incognito when there is nothing physical left to sample. Then we stand here. Void and empty. And only then. Only them to discover the true equilibrium of soul. The perfect balance. Where numbers are equal to alphabets. 

The infinite shrinks to a size of a teardrop – rolling down the cheek of a goddess. Where fire burns, oceans surge. And still, only Papaya King holds stools, that hold the walking dead of Manhattan. The Malaysian media have noticed how much time Lee is spending with the opposition, while the Singaporean media are playing this down.  Note the hint that the schedule is pretty punishing for an 85-year-old after all.  Malaysia Insider:

Lee exhausted himself yesterday trying to find an answer to that most pressing question: just who is his People’s Action Party (PAP) going to be dealing with in four years?

Yesterday he had at least six different meetings after lunch. He met with Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin, delegates from the Kuala Lumpur Business Club, former Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Badawi, Dr Mahathir’s son Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir who is now a deputy minister, and Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim and quizzed each one for clues as to how the next Malaysian general election would pan out.

So spent was Lee that the 45-minute meeting with Khalid and two of his executive councillors was cut short and reporters in Ipoh — his next stop — were told to stay out of sight when Lee flew in just short of midnight.

On Wednesday, he had talks with PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang about his party’s foreign policy which showed that he took the possibility of Pakatan Rakyat (PR) forming the federal government seriously.

At this point, the sole reason may be the advances that PR made in last year’s general election. But he was gently warned not to underestimate the desire for change and the influence of new media that has shaken the political landscape all over the world.

Sources say that Lee was focused on young and urban voters, especially the Malays among them.

I just saw on Tony Pua’s facebook status, “Tony Pua asks Najib if “nobody is a 2nd class citizen”, how come one ethnic community can still purchase multi-million bungalows at 7% discounts to others by law?”

That is true.  Yesterday, Najib made a comment that nobody is a second class citizen in Malaysia.  Like it or not, there is a big segregation on classes.  I am not here to judge Najib’s comment, but I would like to point out the power of facebook.

I was at a kopitiam last night at Kota D’sara and I saw some other patrons were facebooking.  It did took the world by storm and I am a bit weary of the effects of facebook.  I can really see that facebook and twitter is taking the world by storm because people just love to express themselves.

Tony Pua expressed his doubts on Najib’s One Malaysia.  And immediately, Tony Pua’s status on his facebook garnered about 30 comments and 66 thumbs up.

My favourite politician, Dato Lim Kit Siang, blogs on http://blog.limkitsiang.com.  The minute you see him updating his blog, you can see that it garners hundreds of comments per article.  I enjoyed reading their articles so much!  They have wisdom man.  BN men will have problems catching up because the opposition is way ahead in drawing their online territory.  

www.warkahuntukpm.com.my was setup by Tun Abdullah Badawi about two weeks before the 8th March 2008 election.  If you take a look at it, other than changing the picture from Tun Abdullah Badawi to Najib, there is really not much of the update on the site.  I have sent a good comment to Badawi once, and he replied me in a jpg email.  Then when he raised petrol fees by RM1, I sent him a good nasty scolding on the website, but it was unreplied.

The same can’t be said of the opposition.  They replies!  Bad or good!  I have yet to comment anything on chedet.com.  Maybe I should try and let you know my thoughts on this.

So, Tony Pua just made an impact online.  Many people are asking the same question that he is asking.  

Any rebuttal Najib?

Setelah pekan lalu kita melaksanakan Pemilu yang kerap disebut-sebut sebagai pesta demokrasi, ternyata di negara-negara tetangga kita pun sedang bergejolak karena permasalahan suksesi. Kita sama-sama membaca berita bahwasanya East Asian Summit terpaksa dibatalkan karena di negara penyelenggaranya yaitu Thailand demonstrasi massa besar tengah berlangsung. Massa menuntut agar Perdana Menteri Thailand saat ini Abhisit Vejjajiva mundur sekaligus diadakannya pemilihan ulang. Sementara di negara yang sering disebut sebagai negara jiran kita yaitu Malaysia, Perdana Menteri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi pun harus menyerahkan tahtanya karena terus-menerus digoyang.

Sekadar mengingatkan, krisis di Thailand terjadi karena PM Thaksin Sinawatra dipaksa mundur karena dituduh terlibat skandal korupsi. Thaksin pun dikudeta oleh militer Thailand pada tahun 2006. Setelah kudeta, raja Thailand Bhumibol Aduljadev memberikan restu atas aksi suksesi paksa itu. Persiapan Pemilu kemudian digelar. Saat Pemilu berlangsung, ternyata Thaksin masih kuat, ini dibuktikan dengan kemenangan Partai Kekuatan Rakyat yang dipimpinnya dalam Pemilu. Meski tidak kembali berkuasa, namun PM Samak Sundaravej akhirnya dituding sebagai boneka Thaksin dan dipaksa mundur oleh pengadilan setelah terjadi demo massa Aliansi Rakyat untuk Demokrasi. Ia lalu digantikan oleh PM Somchai Wongsawat. Pada Desember 2008 partai Somchai diputuskan bersalah oleh pengadilan melakukan kecurangan Pemilu sehingga ia harus mundur dari jabatannya. Abhisit kemudian terpilih sebagai PM baru setelah memenangkan pemungutan suara di parlemen. Praktis, ia baru sekitar empat bulan menjabat saat demonstrasi massa kembali menggoyang jabatan PM Thailand yang panas itu.

Sementara di Malaysia PM Abdullah Ahmad Badawi di tahun 2003 mendapatkan kekuasaannya sebagai akibat dari pengunduran diri PM Mahathir Mohamad. Sebagai Deputi PM, otomatis ia naik tahta. Ini serupa dengan proses naiknya Megawati Soekarnoputri Taufik Kiemas menjadi Presiden RI setelah Abdurrahman Wahid dipaksa mundur oleh MPR. Bedanya, di Malaysia PM Mahathir mempersiapkan suksesinya kepada Badawi secara damai. Meski sebelumnya kekuasaannya sempat goyang karena adanya perlawanan dari Deputi PM yang dipecat dan dipenjarakannya yaitu Anwar Ibrahim. Anda pasti masih ingat bahwa kejadian tersebut berdekatan dengan lengsernya Soeharto dari tampuk kepresidenan Indonesia. Sehingga saat itu Malaysia pun dilanda aksi demonstrasi jalanan terbesar sepanjang sejarahnya.

Saat Badawi naik, ternyata kepiawaiannya diragukan. Sehingga, tak kurang dari Mahathir sendiri ikut menggoyangnya. Sebagai akibat goncangan itu, UMNO (United Malays National Organization) sebagai partai berkuasa di Malaysia mengalami defisit suara terbesar saat diadakan Pemilu parlemen tahun 2008 lalu. Ini berakibat kecaman makin besar kepada Badawi. Sebagai Ketua UMNO, kegagalan Badawi mempertahankan dominasi partai itu tentu sangat menyengat. Meski sempat dilantik sebagai PM untuk masa jabatan kedua dua hari pasca hasil Pemilu diumumkan, toh keraguan terhadap kepemimpinan dirinya di UMNO dan sebagai PM terus mengemuka.Hingga akhirnya kita sama-sama tahu ia mengundurkan diri pada 2 April 2009 lalu.

Dari kejadian di negara tetangga itu, kita tahu bahwa krisis yang terjadi di suatu negara biasanya akan berekses pada suksesi atau pergantian kepemimpinan. Ini karena rakyat menjadi gelisah pada keadaan. Dan yang saya amati di Indonesia, kerapkali seharusnya krisis itu tidak perlu terjadi, tapi terjadi karena dikondisikan begitu. Sebutlah krisis dalam konversi penggunaan kompor minyak tanah menjadi gas bagi rumah tangga. Kelangkaan minyak tanah yang terjadi adalah karena penyetopan distribusi oleh Pertamina guna memaksa rakyat beralih ke gas. Celakanya, infrastruktur penyediaan gas sendiri belumlah siap. Sehingga, rakyat mengalami krisis bahan bakar.

Tentu saja, saya tidak hendak berspekulasi apakah itu krisis itu merupakan pengkondisian atau langkah awal menuju hal lebih besar atau semata memang karena keadaan tak terhindarkan sebagai imbas –katakanlah- situasi internasional. Akan tetapi, di sisi ini kita musti menyadari bahwa setiap kali rakyat tidak dipuaskan kebutuhannya, krisis akan melanda. Dan bila krisis tak teratasi, suksesi hampir pasti terjadi. Itulah yang bisa kita pelajari dari situasi kiwari di negara tetangga kita.

This is actually truly a historical assignment, I’m talking about politics in Malaysia. Usually I don’t like to publish my official job here, I don’t want you to get bored with all those political figure but this one is different. It was not an easy coverage, a lot of photographers here, all great angle are fully occupied by a photographers, they just don’t want to miss anything from any angle. It was historical indeed to welcome back former Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad taking his busy life even after retired to come to this UMNO annual general assembly and what surprise others is that he walk to the stage and shake hands with his “friends” there, especially with Malaysia incoming Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak and Prime Minister himself Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. I don’t want to write about politic here so much, I guess you can read the whole story somewhere else, I just like to focus on photography aspect here.

About photography, I’ve heard my friends complain that, they are running out of memory, their battery camera runs dry, for me, to cover this historical event, we as a photographers must be 100% ready. The night before assignment, please make sure your camera battery fully charge, make sure also to bring extra battery, most photographers here are using 300-400mm lens, so the battery run dry faster than if you are using wide angle lens. Please format your card, so you don’t wasting your time formating your card when you change your card here and make sure bring extra memory card. The best thing is if you can bring an additional camera body, I mean bring two camera if that is possible, one camera with wide angle lens and the other with telephoto lens, 300mm or 400mm is a must here, there is not much times to switch lens while covering this event. Things can happen unexpectedly like picture above, nobody expect that Tun will come down from where he is sitting above the hall to the stage. If you are running out of battery or memory card, you are in trouble, this is not a model shooting where you can repeat again and again, this is once in a lifetime coverage, if you don’t get it, you don’t get it.

For me I’ll always make sure that at least I’ve another 100 free shots on my memory card, if there is only 50 shots left, I’ll change the memory card, I don’t want to gamble here because during this event, I shoot continuously in burst mode so the memory can filled up pretty quickly, just to tell you the truth, I don’t get 100% sharp image, some are blurry or shaking and few of them are a bit underexposed because my flash could not recycle fast enough in burst mode, I did not use external battery for flash because I don’t have it.

What I’m trying to share with you here is that be prepared for something that will happen, unexpected thing do happen in this kind of events, so get ready…

The other day at a local mall, walking past one of those indoor kiddies’ amusement centre, I chanced upon an argument  over who got to a games machine first and therefore should be the first to play on it……..Guess what? One was a kid, no bigger than 10 years old and the other was an ADULT!!!!!

Then there was this other incident where a little girl came into the ladies’ toilet looking like she’s going to wet her pants anytime soon, but did the adult, next in line to the next available cubicle allow the poor child to use the loo first? NOPE!!! Of course, being there first, the adult have every right to go use the loo first, but it would have been a decent thing to do if the poor child had been allowed to relieved herself first…..after all, children aren’t as seasoned as we adults are at holding our bladder mah?

And I realised, from the above incidents, right down to the way Malaysians drive and queue (hahahaha…yea right…), most of us have basically become disciples of “Me, Myself & I“. That nothing is more important than self-preservation. Why worry about the poor and bullied when one can benefit from the down-trodded??? Who cares about ethics and justice???

And it is these sort of ”ugliness” that begot us the sort of leadership we have in power now.  H.L. Mencken once said of democracy, “Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want and deserve to get it good and hard.”

And that’s why it’s absolutely “incredible” that someone found guilty of money politics, which by the way is just a rosier term for “CORRUPTION”, and barred from contesting for a post in his political party, is still deemed suitable enough to remain as the Menteri Besar of a state???

In fact our Prime Minister’s only reaction to this scandalous insult to all Malaccans was……..

“He is not sulking but is ready to continue his struggle for the party’s future.”

And how about a certain loud-mouth egg-headed minister (and let’s not forget his equally useless son too) who got a photo of himself at The Gutter Post in a very very compromising position with a young chick? If I’m not mistaken, he has yet to outright deny it, only refusing to further comment and is now as quiet as a chicken egg……and yes, he is still in charge of our nation’s legal affaird and judiciary reforms……..what a JOKE!!!

And then we have an ex-minister with a fondness for bad wigs (with so much money at his disposal, why on earth can’t he get a good wig is anybody’s guess!!!) who lost his underpants in the March election last year, but somehow managed to win his party’s presidential post for the 11th time, even though it was by default!!!??? This is despite him being involved in sooo many scandals namely, MAIKA, AIMST, MIED………and of course there’s always the useless offspring and the mysterious death of his sexy secretary to complete the picture……….

The biggest joke would probably be the ex-ex-MB of Selangor with 2 Ms, who thinks the entire nation is suffering from memory lost by promptly boasting about his achievements to prove that he indeed can speak English and was definitely lying thru his teeth during his “I no talk Inglish” incident in Australia………and he’s now touted to be in the lead (by default of course) for the race to the nation’s No.2 position………..

Is this the type of government Malaysian really want? Where “INTEGRITY” is more a liability and no longer one of the main criterias to determining a leader? Yes, some of the above “National-Embarrassments” were not voted in by us voters, but didn’t we voted for the politicial party that endorsed their sort of actions.

Of course, we’re not so naive as to believe that there will be a perfect political party without the usual black sheep or problems………but at least, from what I see so far, leaders in Pakatan Rakyat have proven to be, at the very least, more honourable than our current governing party when it comes to dealing with their folks embroiled in scandals…………they actually tender in their resignation…………….while our darling BN politicians either pretend nothing is wrong or lay low, keep quiet and pray for the problem to tide over.

So, Mr Abdullah Badawi, don’t blame the Pakatan Rakyat, or anyone else for that matter, for keeping UMNO “DISTRACTED“. If one doesn’t carry any shit, one wouldn’t be so busy “defending” oneself, right?
