This crazy cab is making me queasy. Omfg.

Before I forget, I’m gonna write myself a list of what happened:

- Haru for sushi and where I discovered the Magical Bottomless Bamboo Sake Flute thingy.

- Baden Baden for chicken. 2 bottles bekseju.

- 3rd Level… where I drank a lot of random crap. Chilled Goose shots, flaming dr. Pepper, chocolate cake shot

- Players is where I had Johnny Walker Blue, Sake2Me shots (I counted at least 4) and water.

- Circle (not to be confused with the same club in Los Angeles) where I had 3 Goose and tonics, Jameson shot, and random stuff my friends brought over. The bartenders mystery shots were really gross. Ugh.

Then we had street food. Strangely, I was not drunk but the lamb gyro made me sick to the point where I threw up. A lot. As in, all the lamb came back up but strangely none of the liquor did.

That’s not the funniest part though…I plugged up the toilet with the regurgitated food. I was in a panic and didn’t know what to do so I found MissMarketing and said “Big sis….I’m sorry but I plugged up the toilet from throwing up. What do I do?”

After uttering those words, I fell asleep. Poor MissMarketing stayed up to let in the Engineer (that’s what The W calls the nice people who’re stuck unclogging my mess).

I’m happy to announce that I’m still alive, the toilet is working and I’m not hungover.

This is awesome.

Das wird eine kurze Meldung:
am Wochenende waren die Lamas unterwegs. In Baden-Baden muss man wohl kreativ sein, um Geld von den lieben Passanten zu bekommen. Und es war nicht 1, sondern 2 Lamas unterwegs…
Heute morgen gab’s für DASDING.tv Frühsport. Die Dame sieht man zwar nicht, aber lustig war’s trotzdem und Kotta hat’s gezwittschert:

Später am Abend gab es dann schon vorweihnachtliche Geschenke. Was die DINGER nicht abgegriffen haben, wird man demnächst im Programm finden .
Weiß jemand wer das ist? (stammt aus dem Jahr 2007, vermute mal Southside oder Rock am Ring, Korn und 30 Seconds to Mars sind u.a. auch darauf zu finden)

When I was a boy my parents had an LP record by Bert Kaempfert.  He was a German band leader who was quite popular in the 1960s.  They liked it!  One particular tune that I can remember distinctly was a jaunty little melody called ‘A walk in the Black Forest’ and today that was exactly what was on the planned itinerary.

It was a fine morning with a perfectly clear blue sky, just the way I like it, so after a substantial breakfast at the Hotel Merkur it was out of Baden-Baden in an easterly direction heading for the town of Gernsbach about ten kilometres away.  It was early and the town was quiet with just a few people on the way to church and what was interesting that the streets were all decorated with home made bunting all made from old rags and scraps of clothing but with no real clue to what it was all about.  I have to say that the really nice thing about German towns is the cleanliness and with the sun shining so considerately the town centre, adjacent to the fast flowing river Murg, was especially picturesque this morning. 

The road out of town followed the river and wasn’t especially fascinating but after a few kilometres a left hand turn took us into the mountains and towards Schwarzenbach-Stausee, a sort of reservoir lake in an especially picturesque location.  The car climbed steeply and negotiated a succession of hair pin bends first through deciduous trees surrounded by the remains of autumn leaf fall and then into dense conifer forest and as it did so we quite unexpectedly found ourselves above the snow line.  Suddenly the Black Forest was completely transformed into the White Forest.  There had been a substantial fall of snow a day or so before and the conifer trees were heavily laden with crisp white snow fixed in place by a hard frost and it was as though we had been transported into a traditional christmas card world of snow and ice, frozen lakes and winter pastimes. 

What was especially impressive was that the roads were all perfectly clear and had obviously been subject to an efficient snow clearing plan that had kept them open to traffic.  This wouldn’t happen in the UK of course because half a millimetre or so of snow in England brings everything to a complete standstill.  The steady climb continued until what seemed like the top of the world and the forest looked like a freshly made bed with a pristine white sheet of pure Egyptian cotton  spread across it.  At this point the forest is about one thousand one hundred metres high which is just about the same elevation as Mount Snowdon.   At its highest point the Black Forest mountains reach one thousand five hundred metres which is just a bit higher than Ben Nevis.  And at this height it was just about possible to appreciate the vast scale of the forest; it covers an area of about twelve thousand square kilometres which is roughly the equivilent of Yorkshire.  I don’t know what I was really expecting from the Black Forest but one thing for sure it was much more impressive that Sherwood Forest or the New Forest where I have always thought there is a disappointing shortage of trees, for forests.  I think the reason fot that is that since the sixteenth century or thereabouts, Britain has always had a navy that used up all of the forest oaks in England to build wooden battleships but Germany didn’t become a naval power until the late nineteenth century by which time ships were made of steel.  That probably saved the Black Forest and thank goodness for that.

From the top the road descended again back to the main road and on to the town of Freudenstadt.   On the way navigation proved something of a difficulty because I have found that one of the things that could be improved in Germany is the standard of road signs and directions; and road numbers would be quite handy as well.  It is hard enough grappling with place names like Badshitz and Klostermeebag but it is even more difficult when the road signs give confusing and conflicting information that continually test a drivers skill at performing three point turns.  It is also disconcerting when the navigator is completely lacking in map reading skills and I always kew that I was in trouble when Kim kept turning the map round to face the way we were going in that female sort of way.  This invariably means one of two things, either we are lost or we have just missed an important turning.  I always know that this is the time to make preparations for a u-turn.

The town of Freudenstadt was still clearing away the snow from the footpaths and the pedestrian areas and the there was a sense of community involvement as everyone seemed to be making their contribution to the work in hand.  Passing quickly through town the scenic tourist road zigzagged wildly from left to right and always upwards towards Bad Rippoldsau and then dropped down again to Kneibis where it was time for a simple lunch and a glass of pils in an authentic German Gasthaus.   I knew that the snow had only recently fallen and was probably the first fall of the winter because it was completely undisturbed and there was a lot of frantic activity as local people had obviously rushed to the countryside with their children for tobogganing and skiing and I suspect that just as in England snow isn’t as common in many parts of Europe as it used to be.

Another tourist road led to the small town of Oppenau where there was a carnival in full flow and it seemed appropriate to stop at a community centre where there was a party to investigate.  The children were all in fancy dress, the men were dressed like Noddy and Big Ears with elaborate wooden masks and the women wore colourful medieval style dresses.  It all looked a bit pagan to me, which I suppose it is really, and reminded me of the film ‘The Whicker Man’ when villagers in fancy dress sacrificed a stranger.  With that thought rattling around my head I remained alert to any threatening behaviour.  There was none of course, this was all a lot of good fun and it did explain the carnival bunting in Gernsbach and I discovered later that this is the festival of Fastnacht which is a carnival in Alemannic folklore that takes place in the few days before Lent in Southern Germany, Switzerland and Alsace.  The Alemanni were German tribes who lived in this part of Europe nearly two thousand years ago and this area iremains characterised by a form of German with a distinct dialogue called Alemannic.  The celebration literally means ‘Fasting Eve’ as it originally referred to the day before the fasting season of Lent.  The schools are all closed for this festival and all over the Black Forest there are six days of parties and making merry.  At the community centre everyone was shoving down platefuls of food and consuming lots of drink.  A sort of doughnut seemed to be popular and these I learnt were called fasnachts and are a traditional fatty treat that are produced as a way to empty the pantry of lard, sugar, fat and butter, which are forbidden during Lent.  This is a catholic tradition but in protestant England we call this Shrove Tuesday and serve pancakes instead of doughnuts, it is much the same thing.  This festival is also called ‘Weiberfastnacht’  or Women’s Carnival on account of the fact that tradition says that on this day women take control of local affairs.  I might be mistaken but I was under the impression that this was every day not just once a year.

Out of Oppenau the road climbed again and provided stunning views over the Rhine valley, flat and contrasting sharply with the Black Forest mountains, looking deep into neighbouring France. The road finally arrived at the Allerheiligen Wasserfälle, which is a five hundred-metre waterfall on the river Lierbach as it tumbles quickly through a narrow gorge full of boulders and fallen trees.  It was especially dramatic today because of the melting snow that was adding to the volume of water that was contributing to the volume of water in the river.  The sides of the mountain were covered in little icicles that had attached themselves to and entombed blades of grass and on the ground the compacted snow was easy to walk on and made the climb to the top of the gorge easy except that is for the parts when the steps were covered in treacherous ice and it was necessary to cling on to the railings for fear of slipping over.  After the falls and back in the car the road continued to an unusually numbered road, the 500, that would have led directly back to Baden-Baden if I hadn’t tried to be clever and find another tourist route which because of the inadequacy of the road signs only led to the uninteresting towns of Bühl and Sinzheim and then back to Baden-Baden through the St Michaels tunnel.

Mal wieder ein paar Updates für die Menschen, die dieses Wochenende nicht das Vergnügen hatten mit mir schaurig schön Halloween zu feiern oder denen das Ohr nicht beim Telefonieren nicht abgefallen ist, denn die Woche war definitiv die aufregendste seit in nun bei DASDING arbeite.

Letztes Wochenende waren die Jugendmedientage in Mannheim, wo ich ja als Teamer mit vor Ort war. Wie immer war es wunderbar die ganzen lieben Menschen der Jugendpresse um sich zu haben (mit Ausnahme von Alice, Fabi und Jan). Sogar der Herr, der jetzt im Norden lebt, hat sich von Neumünster hinunterbequemt und es waren 3 tolle Tage mit sehr wenig Schlaf. Besonders schade war es in dem Moment, als wir alle auf die Bühne mussten und applaudiert wurde. Ich war so kaputt und meine Aufnahme so gering, das ich das gar nich genießen konnte. Aber bereits am ersten Tag fühlte ich Stolz (obwohl ich dieses Jahr nicht im Organisationsteam vorher dabei war) bei dem Anblick von 300 jungen Medienmachern. Mein Highlight war definitiv die Party, weil sie einfach rundum gelungen war. Es wurde ausgiebig getanzt, schöne Gespräche fanden statt und der liebe Andi S. hat mir einen tollen und sehr amüsanten Kinofilm zum Ende der Party hin geboten mit seiner “ausgiebigen Feierrei” . Ich habe euch jemand neues kennengelernt, die ich hoffentlich bald mal wieder sehe – die kleene, toughe Lea .

Die Woche über habe ich mich bis heute nicht wirklich davon erholt, obwohl es mittwochs bereits um 21 Uhr ins Bettle ging. Doch der Praktikanten-and-friends-Abend am Dienstag und der Besuch meines Dads am Donnerstag hatten zur Folge, dass der Schlafmangel wieder stieg. Diese beiden Abende waren auf jeden Fall lohnenswert, den jetzt fühle ich mich wirklich eingelebt in Baden-Baden seit Dienstag. Alle Fotos von dem Wochenende, dem Dienstag und diesem Wochenende könnt ihr übrigens anschauen, wenn ihr mir Bescheid gibt. Die ganzen Fotos wollte ich dann doch nicht in den allgemeinen Ordner stecken . Das Bowlen und der anschließende Besuch bei Krissi (der Hausdame sei gedankt ) war sehr lustig und nun kenne ich auch unsere Marketing-Praktikantin aus der Redaktion!

Sehr verrückt war dann donnerstags. Ich halte mich kurz. Der Tag ansich verlief leider nicht so gut, meine Laune war verhalten. Mein lieber Herr Papa ließ sich auch Zeit, denn der Verkehr spielte scheinbar nicht mit. Ich blieb noch bis 9e in der Redaktion. Nun kenne ich den Herrn Häußer auch ein wenig besser, was ich toll finde. Als der Herr dann endlich da war, schlug uns Fred einen Italiener vor (übrigens sehr lecker, günstig und gemütlich – will definitiv nochmal hin). Dort angekommen erblickten wir einen gemütlichen, kleinen Familienbetrieb. Wir setzten uns an einen großen Tisch. Das Publikum war sehr gemischt. Rechts von mir eher die Sparte “Öko”, die nicht so viel mit den Reichen von Baden-Baden zu tun haben (wollen?) und links zwei gutgekleidete Damen Anfang 60. Das Ende vom Lied war, wir kamen mit den Damen ins Gespräch, die sich wie sich rausstellte keine reichen Ehefrauen waren, sondern z.B. selbstständig sind, die viel auf dem Kasten haben was Allgemeinwissen betrifft und die auch sehr humorvoll und unternehmungslustig sind. Ich brachte dann kurz nach 0 Uhr das Auto zu mir nach Hause und mein Vater zog mit den Damen noch in eine Bar. Nachts bimmelte dann irgendwann mein Handy und mein Dad kam. Es dauerte dann, bis ich wieder einschlafen konnte. Auf jeden Fall trifft man auf sowas glaube ich nur in Baden-Baden. Übrigens kannten die Damen sich glaube ich besser mit dem Handy aus als manche Eltern von uns. Und schließlich “tauschten” sie auch die Handynummern aus, was einfach herrlich anzusehen war – ich dachte nur an den Begriff “Silversurfer”. Das ich sowas erleben darf als angehende Medienmanagerin -  herrlich! So ein Verhalten war ich bisher ja nur von Jugendlichen und 20 bis 30-Jährigen gewöhnt.

Am Wochenende ging’s dann nach Hause. Freitag hab ich einfach nur geschlafen und Samstag ging’s dann auf eine Halloweenparty. Jetzt sitze ich gerade noch im Schwabenländle, werde aber demnächst den Weg nach Baden antreten. Bis die Tage!

An alle Menschen aus den Natural-Tagen: Hat er nicht was von Ben?

Ustedes se preguntarán quién fue Doña Sofía Dulciora, ilustre dama esparronicense del siglo trece. Muy bien, para llevarles la contraria les hablaré de Juan del Juno; no confundir con Juan de Juni, genial escultor e imaginero francés del siglo XVI.

No, Juan del Juno, se le llamó así por su gran afición a junar, es decir, a ver, otear, fisgar en los sitios privados. En realidad se llamó Albretch Düsseldfrondinger-Schleswig-Hertogenbosh-Upper, de la famila de los Valois de toda la vida; monarcas del reino de Sajonia Baja-Prusia Oceánica.

Como decíamos, Juan del Juno, vivió en la ciudad sajona de Baden-Baden (ver mapa), y se dedicaba al arte del cuero, concretamente era curtidor, talabartero y guarnicionero; y olía muy mal. Debido a la afición u obsesión, según se mire, que Juan tenía a fisgar, le ocurrió un día un hecho muy curioso. Reflejado en la biografía apócrifa denominada Tumbo K, encontrada en el Monasterio de Batalha (Portugal) [N. Ref.: 25354-KTnene].

Era un 12 de abril de un año, cuando Juan del Juno, pasó por un cañizal junto al camino de Kalsruhe y se paró a “junar” lo que había detrás de la cerca. Allí encontró a una mujer desnudándose. Cuando llegó a su taller, situado en la Kueren-Strasse (calle del cuero), lo primero que hizo fue retratar a la mujer con un hierro candente en unos recortes de cuero que le sobraban, obviamente. Y de ahí, surgió la expresión “salir en cueros”, acuñada por los habitantes de Baden-Baden, los famosos badenes.

A los 7 años de edad, tuvo que trasladarse a Pernambuco, Brasil; donde se le comenzó a llamar Juninho Pernambucano…

En Brasil, Juan del Juno decidió retirarse del noble oficio de la estredefegería (retratar mujeres desnudas en cuero, valga la rebuznancia), a raiz de un curioso incidente acaecido en una visita rauda y veloz a Río de Janeiro. Su afición a junar tras de las vallas (precisamente en el barrio de tras-de-las-valhas) se vio recompensada con la imagen de una preciosa y precisa ‘garota’ que paseábase desnuda por el patio de su casa.

Juninho (así llamado ahora) corrióse, perdón, corrió a su casa a grabar en cuero a la susodicha (se llamaba Susodicha Beleninha) y volvió a enseñarle el retrato. Al llegar se encontró a su marido, que tuvo a bien grabarle a él también en sus propios cueros con un hierro al rojo muerto la frase “a minha garota é minha”, en salva sea la parte.

Desde entonces Juninho se dedicó a fabricar con las tiras de cuero unas curiosas pelotas que los brasileiros de la época pateaban con afán (téngase en cuenta que hablamos del siglo trece, por lo que una segunda línea de investigación apunta a que Juan del Juno descubrió América en el 1266, en un viaje financiado por Sofía Dulciora tras convencerla enseñándola un huevo)…

Hay que desmitificar el Descubrimiento de América, pues hoy en día, nadie se cree que un señor de no se sabe dónde, engañara a toda una reina para que le comprara unos barcos (¡con lo caros que estaban entonces en el IKEA!), enseñándola un huevo.

Según el historiador vietnamita Inocencio Villaumbrales Lantadilla, postulador de la segunda línea de investigación (que por cierto era curva), América se descubrió muy sencillamente gracias a Sofía Dulciora y a Juan del Juno en un encuentro producido en el mercado de Sigmaringen, Hohenzollern (ver en el mapa). Reproduzco aquí la conversación encontrada por el doctor Villaumbrales:

Miércoles, 72 de Julio de 1266 (en aquél entonces el mundo se regía por el calendario Manfrediano, rey de Sicilia)

– ¡Oh!, cuanto lo siento. [Dijo Juan del Juno, al volverse y chocar con Doña Dulciora en el mercado]
