Peplum skirts have been really hot this season, I love them, they help define the waist. French Connection gives a different take on the peplum, the trim on the end and the way it doesn’t connect all the way around. The lace corset from Top Shop is sexy and so feminine. It’s fitted so it does not compete with the peplum skirt. I love the champagne Badgley Mischika pumps, I think they complement the color of the corset. I wasn’t sure about the satin material but I think it adds more class and femininity to the look. And the feather clutch was too good to pass up, I just felt like it should be there.

The Boyf is getting nervous. He thinks I’m all set to get wed. And I’ll admit, I have thrown coal into the fire with my current obsession with all things bridal related. But it’s nothing to do with him; I blame reality TV.

If you haven’t yet seen Living TV’s fantastic Four Weddings you’ve missed out. And don’t get me started on BBC3’s Don’t Tell the Bride, it’s, like, The. Best. Show. Ever. Gets me yelling at the television every time. The concept? The Beeb gives one (un)lucky couple £12,000 to let the groom plan the entire wedding in three weeks, with absolutely no input from the bride. Yep, it’s my idea of hell too!

Since the boy wonder manages to fall alseep during every episode, I am inevitably forced to call the BFF to rant about the ridiculous Jordan-esque monstrosity the groom has picked out for his chic bride who’s looking for a dress that’s elegant in its simplicity. Why is it that men can look at a woman and what she wears every day for years and still have no idea how to judge her personal style?

Anyway, all this has me thinking about Bridal trends and what route down the aisle I might (one day!) take myself. I’d like to think my day-to-day wardrobe is fashion-forward yet understated and believe a wedding gown should reflect that. But then there’s the part of me that wants the once-in-a-lifetime ‘Hey up! Over here, yup all eyes on me please!’ show-stopper of a dress. Whichever you choose, it’s the one day in your life that you absolutely must get it right. There’s no margin for error.

Gosh, it’s stressful just thinking about weddings even without the fiancé, ring and mounting credit card debt. The Boyf needn’t worry, I’m no fan of premature ageing. I think I’ll stay single, with my only dress-dilemma being how much to fork out for a Christmas party frock.

But, just for fun, here’s a selection of my favourite bridal gowns from the fall collections.

Angel Sanchez

QVC CEO Mike GeorgeWe thought we were seeing things a few days ago when we checked ShopNBC’s W

QVC CEO Mike George

We thought we were seeing things a few days ago when we checked ShopNBC’s Web site and saw that it was selling dozens of Gucci watches. What happened, did they fall off a truck? Why was Gucci, a premier luxury brand, being sold on a home shopping network?

Then back in October, we couldn’t believe it when a sharp-eyed poster on QVC’s jewelry forum said that upscale jewelry designer Stephen Dweck, whose chunky gemstone masterpieces are featured in Neiman Marcus, was on the No. 1 home shopping network’s schedule. THE Stephen Dweck?

We checked QVC’s program guide ourselves, and there it was: Dweck was doing a lower-priced jewelry line for QVC called Dweck’s Diamonds. His Neiman Marcus pieces didn’t even have diamonds. The high-end stuff is made with semi-precious stones.

Also in October, we were checking the press releases on HSN’s Web site when we saw the network had struck a deal with one of the most famous and elite fashion houses: Badgley Mischka, designers of bejeweled gowns for the red carpet and celebrities.

We’ve written bits and pieces of this during the past two months, but we thought we’d tie it all up in a tidy package for Thanksgiving: There has been a sea change in the home shopping world, prompted by the disastrous economy and the crash of the luxury market.

Yes, home shopping networks have seen their sales hurt by the economy, like everyone else. But they claim they are still managing to steal market share from brick-and-mortar retailers. In fact, QVC is making a full-frontal assault on them this Black Friday, with 28 hours of special products and programming stunts starting Thanksgiving night.

The consumer press will continue to mention “cubic zirconia” in every story it writes about QVC or HSN, oblivious to the fact that some of the most esteemed names in fashion, jewelry and cosmetics — brands you find in Saks, Bloomingdale’s and Neiman Marcus — are plying their wares on the aforementioned home shopping channels.

ShopNBC CEO Keith Stewart

Male journalists are blind to this. You still have the nerds at Gawker, a snide Web Site for the navel-gazing media, chiding HSN for selling “useless crap.”

If you have ever seen how male journalists dress or their fashion and style sensibilities, you will realize that you can’t expect them to know names like Badgley Mischka, Judith Ripka, Robert Lee Morris, our fellow Montclair, N.J., resident Bobbi Brown, Yves Saint Laurent, Smashbox, Lancome and Dweck. And these brands and artists don’t represent “useless crap.”

Luxury-good makers are hurting, and they need to make up their loss in sales. So they are turning to outlets like QVC, as CEO Mike George explained at a recent Liberty Media conference, as outlets to distribute new lower-priced lines to the masses. George cited fashion designer Vivienne Tam’s QVC alliance at the meeting held in Manhattan by his parent company, Liberty.

“This complete implosion of luxury retailing in America has caused all these folks to rethink their business model,” George said.

And that means partnering with QVC, HSN or ShopNBC.

As we said, it will take the consumer press years to figure out that home shopping channels are distribution powerhouses that have undergone a transformation, in part because of the infllux of talent like a Morris, who does couture jewelry for designers like Donna Karan and RLM Studio sterling silver jewelry for QVC.

The Big Three — QVC, HSN and ShopNBC — are aggressively trying to broaden their audience and potential customer base, those who don’t normally watch any of these three networks. That means the three are actually “programming” the channels, doing “shows” that have entertainment value, not just product shilling, so they will attract non-QVC or non-HSN watchers.

We remember once interviewing a QVC exec years ago and asking what the network’s ratings were. He said ratings were irrelevant: QVC was only concerned about how many products were sold in an hour.

HSN CEO Mindy Grossman

That’s a totally different tune from what we heard recently from QVC’s George, and from the strategies that HSN CEO Mindy Grossman and ShopNBC CEO Keith Stewart have initiated.

Like traditional TV networks, the home shopping players want viewers to “sample” a QVC or an HSN. These new audience members, hopefully, will then see products that they want to buy.

For example, singer Natalie Cole recently did a live concert on HSN to promote a new Holiday CD set she is selling on the channel. If you’re a fan, you might tune in to HSN to see her, and then actually decide to purchase her CD. Artists such
as Jose Feliciano have also performed live on QVC.

QVC alum Stewart on a recent third-quarter conference call pointed out that actress-entrepeneur Suzanne Somers, who came to ShopNBC from HSN, had succeeded in attracting new viewers to Minneapolis-based ShopNBC because she was “entertaining.” And these networks want new eyeballs.

And home shopping networks’ capacity to reach millions of consumers and do fulfillment of orders has not been lost on magazine publishers, celebrities or cable’s reality TV stars. With circulation falling, women’s magazines such as Lucky, Allure, Glamour and Self are partnering with HSN to sell subscriptions.

And stars have seen the light. In a recent interview in Oprah Winfey’s O magazine, Joan Rivers, who’s had a jewelry line on QVC for almost 20 years, told O she was on home shopping when “nobody except dead celebrities was doing merchandise on TV.”

Nowadays, it’s hard to find a celebrity or TV star who doesn’t have a home shopping line. Even Madonna was interviewed on HSN when she was selling her children’s book.

Here’s a partial list:

Paula Abdul, HSN, formerly “American Idol,” Fox

Rachel Zoe, QVC, “The Rachel Zoe Project,” Bravo

Isaac Mizrahi, QVC, “The Fashion Show,” Bravo

Padma Lakshmi, HSN, “Top Chef,” Bravo

Ramona Singer, HSN, “The Real Housewives of New York City,” Bravo

Susan Lucci, HSN, “All My Children,” ABC

Carson Kressley, QVC, “How to Look Good Naked,” Lifetime Television

Dr. Robert Rey, ShopNBC, “Dr. 90210,” E! Entertainment Television

Tori Spelling, HSN, “Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood,” Oxygen

Paula Deen, QVC, Food Network

Rachael Ray, QVC, “The Rachael Ray Show,” syndication

Ingrid Hoffmann, HSN, Food Network and Univision

Home shopping is a big business. ShopNBC is the also-ran in the group, but in the third quarter Stewart made some nice progress cutting its losses. Sales for the Big Three were all down, but down less than previous quarters.

And we are not talking chump change for these networks. The three home shopping channels generated $8.3 billion in net revenue in 2008. QVC domestic posted $4.9 billion, HSN netted $2.8 billion and ShopNBC had $568 million.

Even with revenue still slipping this year, for the first nine months QVC had revenue of $3.308 billion; HSN had net sales of $1.4 billion; and ShopNBC had $372.6 million in net sales.

Happy Thanksgiving!

You will find this saying in many parts of this blog, but thats because it needs to be drilled into your head: OWN IT. ROCK IT. Who gives a hoot you’re going alone? You? Youre the only one. Your going to a wedding, not your wedding, your friends, cousins, brothers, bosses whoevers wedding. It’s not about you. Suck it up, and have fun! Wear something amazing, attract attention from the hottie single groomsmen. You will be shocked at how many other single guys are there, and I have been the date for enough of my guy friends to know, not every guy who has a date is taken.

Have fun with the person who invited you. Take lots of pictures, say you are playing photographer to spark up conversation. If it is a family wedding even better! Take this time to reconnect with your loved ones instead of pimping out guy of the moment to every aunt who ever asked “when are you having a baby??” (I DONT KNOW AUNT ETZA… MAYBE NEVER.. sorry Aunt Etza)

Jennifer Weiner is also one of the better “chick-lit” writers out there whose books always offer something a bit more meaningful than the Sophie Kinsella-esque fluff that is so common these days.

If you have not read “Good in Bed”, do read it if you get a chance. It is a really good read; and far better than it’s rather suggestive title and cover would imply. It is also far better than this rather tepid sequel.

Certain Girls takes place about 15 years after Good in Bed ends. Cannie Shapiro (the heroine in Good in Bed) is now happily married to her dream guy, and she has a 13 year old daughter (from a previous relationship). She spends her time ghost-writing some science fiction novels and planning how to organize her daughter (Joy’s) upcoming bat mitzvah.

Cannie’s husband Peter is dreaming about having another baby and convinces his wife to try out for another baby. Following the trauma of Joy’s birth, Cannie’s not able to have more children, so it means finding a surrogate.

Joy is struggling with an identity crisis. She feels stifled and embarassed by her mother’s over-protectiveness. She has also stumbled across an old book written by her mother, which reveals certain family truths that disturb her.

The story alternates between Joy’s and Cannie’s points of view, so it makes it easy for the reader to understand their motivations.

Eventually, this is a family story that revolves around how mother and daughter resolve various issues that are tearing the family apart, and the life lessons they learn along the way.

My take on this novel:

I don’t know what I was expecting when I checked out Certain Girls; but it definitely wasn’t this.

The first half of the story was quite predictable and I found the mother-daughter fights to be a wee bit on the hysterical side – way too much drama for very trivial things.

For example, for half the book there is an ongoing drama about a Badgley Mischka dress that Joy wants to wear for her bat mitzvah and to which her mother strenuously objects. I just didn’t get why there was so much fuss over what seemed to be a non-issue. Cannie objects (not for financial reasons, which might make sense), but because it is too party-like for what is essentially a religious ceremony. I really felt that she was being quite unreasonable there. A young girl on the brink of a ceremony that symbolizes her entry into adulthood would definitely want something a llittle grown-up. Also, the dress sounded prefectly lovely and perfectly suitable to me.

In addition, I was quite disappointed by Cannie’s character. She was very lively and witty in Good in Bed, but here, she seemed to have settled down into becoming a suburban and somewhat whiny mum. She is unable to forget and forgive the people who have done her wrong in the past. I found that rather childish; I mean it’s been more than 10 years for God’s sake. Surely, you can’t still be holding a grudge against people!!

Well, anyway the hysteria builds up to a point where Joy decides to run away from home. And I must say, that is the point onwards where the story direction starts to move in a very unexpected manner. The end of the novel is a complete shocker; I just did not see it coming and neither will you.

In the end, I think the final bits of the novel redeemed it for me. I know the ending would have disappointed some other readers who were looking for something more upbeat, but for me I felt it was the only way to end the story in a strong manner, which gives enough substance to the rest of this otherwise lukewarm novel.

Be warned, it is a tearjerker though. Just perfect for those rainy days when you just want to curl up with a book under a blanket and go sob, sob, sob. I must say, I ended up with a rather runny nose after reading this one!

After buying yards of Scotch tape, piles of gift tags, and several pounds of wrapping paper there’s still one left on the top of every fashionista’s mind during the holidays…

“WHAT AM I WEARING?”

Holiday parties come a dime a dozen and if you run within a tight-knit group of friends, chances are you might be seeing them more than once this season. While winter happens to be the most hectic time for us all, it still doesn’t mean you’re allowed to slack off when it comes to your fashion sense. Since I’ll be focused on gifts and whatnot, I’m going with the safe yet chic option of… the LBD (Little Black Dress). Easy enough to pull off for any party and oh-so-easy to dress up or down, there’s really no going wrong with black – especially when you’re pressed for time!

Now I happen to have 2 go-to LBDs in my closet but I don’t think you can really have too many. With all the different cuts, patterns, or materials; there’s probably an LBD in over a million different variations. I don’t need a million but I do need a few more and one of my favorite shopping sites is here to save the day.

Rue La La is a member’s only shopping community that brings the sickest labels to you at even sicker prices! That’s why I was so excited to share the news of their ELLE Little Black Dress Boutique that’s set to open Monday, November 23 at 11AM. Violet Moon Gaynor, Sr. Fashion & Accessories Editor at Elle.com, hooked up with Rue La La to pick out a gorgeous selection of 16 make-you-drool designers and their in demand LBDs.

Be warned, this sale is only going to be available for 48 hours so be ready (mark your calendars!) to shop labels like Badgley Mischka, Laundry, Carmen Marc Valvo, Robert Rodriguez… at up to 80% OFF retail!

If you’re not a Rue La La member, please take this invitation as my gift to you! Trust me, it will become your newest addiction!

Who’d a thunk that the red-carpet fashion house Badgley Mischka would one day be selling a line on HSN.

But the two designers and celebrity favorites, Mark Badgley and James Mischka, premiered their American Glamour line of apparel, accessories and jewelry during a two-hour show Tuesday night. The first hour was clothes and handbags, the second devoted to jewelry.

“We’re here to bring glamour to American life,” said Badgley, who is the one with the glasses.

The team made its name designing beautful beaded and embellished evening gowns.

The price points on their HSN goods ranged from $99 for a silk tunic to $499 for a snakeskin satchel.

“This is truly one of our luxe bags,” Badgley said.

Host Colleen Lopez said the handbag was the best-selling item on the HSN Web site out of the collection, and it was our favorite item. It sold out.

The Badgley Mischka foray on HSN is part of a trend of high-end designers, with the luxury market suffering, looking for distribution of lower-priced lines to the masses.

The designing duo started its couture company 20 years ago, with a collection of black dresses.

Badgley seemed like he had a smirk on his face throughout the show, but maybe he was just nervous. But all in all, he and his partner Mischka were pretty down to earth and came across quite well.

Lopez who couldn’t stop gushing about the merchandise.

“I might hyperventilate before this whole show is over,” she told the two designers.

Lopez was wearing a silk top that could be worn off the shoulders, the only place that Lopez said she didn’t have cellulite. It was $89.90, and she wore it in mocha.

Badgley got a surprise when his aunt in Nevada called in to wish him luck on the new line. She said she had purchased a tunic and was looking at some other items to buy. Mark, what kind of a nephew are you? Couldn’t you get her your stuff wholesale?

Of the jewelry, one of our favorites was Badgley Mischka’s Maltese crosses, but there was also an unusual watch. It looked like a vintage crystal bracelet at first glance, but was in fact a working watch. Mischka said it was inspired by a piece they found in a shop in Rhode Island.

Badgley and Mischka won’t be back on HSN until March, according to Lopez.

HSN has a packed schedule this week, with the debut of the hot new apparel and jewelry line from Bad

HSN has a packed schedule this week, with the debut of the hot new apparel and jewelry line from Badgley Mischka, the famous red-carpet designers, Tuesday night.

The No. 2 home shopping network has the Badgley Mischka merchandise online already, and the clothes and jewelry look great.

And one of our favorite HSN jewelry vendors, Chaco Canyon, will be on HSN Thursday. Its Southwestern pieces, made by Native Americans, is fantastic. One new item, a multigem cross, has already almost sold out online. It’s $329, but huge. Just our style.

Also on HSN Thursday is designer Arnold Scaasi. That brings us to the bad and the ugly. Scaasi fashion jewelry pieces are great

looking and ridiculously affordable. But the several times we have seen him on the air, he has been rather nasty and sarcastic to whatever poor host drew the short straw and had to work with him.

Let’s see if he’s more pleasant this visit.

One of his stunning pieces, a clear-stone drop necklace at $100, was prominently featured in HSN’s November jewelry guide.

It’s HSN.

An odder assortment of celebrities might be hard to find, but there will be lots of premieres of these stars and their products on HSN in November. If you are a fan of any of these folks, but hate home shopping networks, remember that you will get a chance to see these celebs live — unfiltered and without scripts — on HSN.

Sometimes it’s not a pretty sight, like when Jessica Simpson recently appeared on QVC. Other times it’s a pleasant surprise, like seeing the likable and amiable Tori Spelling and Paula Abdul when they sell their fashion jewelry on HSN.

Drescher has a skincare line, FranBrand, that will debut on HSN Nov. 10. HSN describes her as “the flashy girl from Flushing.”

Sims’s fashion jewelry line, Grayce, will premiere Nov. 13. Items are already up on HSN’s Web site.

Sean “Diddy” Combs, formerly known as Puff Daddy, has a fragrance line set to appear on HSN Nov. 30 and Dec. 1.

And Badgley Mischka, in the wake of a major recently announced deal, will premiere the American Glamour line Nov. 17, with a two-hour show.

We expect the legendary designers, and we mean that, Mark Badgley and James Mischka to be down in Florida.

We have a pair of pink metallic sandals from these guys that we bought at a Manhattan sample sale. That was years ago, but we could go to a black-tie event with those shoes and they’d look right in style.

On its Web site, HSN welcomed the celebrity newcomers to “the HSN family.”

Hello-Hello and greetings on a Thursday, we are excited to see the day unfold, with lots of obligations and meetings!

That translates to a mercifully short post, with a quick glance at the new, more affordable bridal line being launched by Badgley Mischka.

PHOTO: Kyle Ericksen/WWD

A sampling of styles accompanied this WWD story on the more fiscally friendly collection.

PHOTO: Kyle Ericksen/WWD

The name for the new label? Mark and James, after the designing duo’s first names.

Surprisingly, we weren’t wowed by these.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

We enjoyed this next item, a visit from the Prince of Wales to the new Burberry headquarters.

The Prince was officially opening the firm’s new global headquarters in London.

PHOTO: Johnny Green/Pool/AP

Judging from the bag, apparently he also did his part to boost the economy. (Did we mention that Burberry is jumping on the makeup bandwagon, launching their own line of color cosmetics next June?)

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

In our post yesterday we chatted about Olsenboye, the new juniors line launching at JCPenney from Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. We pondered aloud about the number of celebrity lines being created; today we share another: Dream Out Loud from actress Selena Gomez (also the youngest UNICEF ambassador ever), launching for fall 2010.

John Aquino/WWD

As noted in this WWD story:

“… with the help of a group of industry experts, Gomez teamed up to create her brand which focuses on “pretty, feminine and bohemian” clothing — a line, she said, that mirrors her own style.”

It is always tough to predict, but we’re guessing the tween girls we know will like these styles.

John Aquino/WWD

More from WWD on where the clothing will be available; brand managers are looking for an exclusive relationship with a store, not unlike the arrangement the Olsens have with JCPenney. As an executive with the line put it:

““Miley Cyrus at Wal-Mart is a little more rock ’n’ roll, and Avril Lavigne’s line at Kohl’s has that edginess,” he said. “There seems to be a void in that space for the girl who is looking for feminine, pretty clothes.”

PHOTO: John Aquino/WWD

According to Miss Gomez, the labels on pieces will carry inspirational quotes.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Dooney & Bourke’s sailboat pattern always makes us smile, despite the little logo on the sails, and for some reason we were thinking about it today. Below, we show it in the Erica style.

It will surprise no one our favorite colorway is this one:

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

We also have a few updates for those contemplating possible purchases of Lilly stationery, gifts, or goodies, beginning with a word about these:

We received an advisory from the fabulous Lilly paper people about our Thermal Mugs: they are officially out of the Vintage Patch pattern, with Trouble Hibiscus and Private Property almost gone. (A little secret about these: at the Princess they are always just $15.50; everywhere else they are $16 and up.) Fortunately the Consort was lightning-quick in reacting to the news, purchasing as many as we could handle over at the Mighty Princess Warehouse, but as an FYI for those interested in these, our supply of Private Property is down to the last 8 mugs.

We also have word on these hot sellers:

The Lilly folks have almost sold out of the Pocket Agendas in the Trouble Hibiscus and Ports ‘o Call patterns.

We leave you with a quick reminder about these:

Last weekend word started going around that Heidi Montag-Pratt, star of “reality” TV show The Hills, was going to have a fragrance deal with HSN. As it turns out, it was all just a rumor. An HSN representative spoke with New York Magazine this week, saying:

“…a fragrance deal with Montag is pure rumor, and is not happening.”

HSN does have fragrance deals with designers Badgley Mischka, and Naeem Khan. So what about the possibility of a deal in the future? It doesn’t look likely. The HSN representative also stated:

“The network has no plans to collaborate with the Hills star in the future.”

Perez Hilton, author of the self-proclaimed “Hollywood’s Most-Hated Web Site!“, loves to chat about Heidi and seemed pleased to announce that the deal was just a rumor on his celebrity fashion blog, CocoPerez.com.

“TheCity” Season 1: Part 2: Episode 3: “It’s All Who You Know”

In theCity we all know things have changed, starting from the top where Whitney has lost her narrator voice over job at the beginning of the episodes. Now she just says “previously on theCity“.

So, we begin in the new City at ELLE. Erin Kaplan is still groaning and complaining about Olivia’s subpar work. Her beef: Olivia doesn’t actually do work. TV Joe Zee still inexplicably believes Olivia’s a star and will do good at ELLE. We wish he would just say “we want theCity to film here”. That would win the show so many points. TV Joe Zee says if Olivia doesn’t do well on her new project Fall A-Zee, “maybe her future’s not at ELLE”. Save the melodramatics for an audience who is still gullible!

After we “feel on Top of the World yay!”, Erin explains Fall A-Z which will be a segment with Us Weekly and Access Hollywood. Each letter is assigned a trend and an accessory; they need 26 pieces in all and they need an exclusive piece. After Erin accompanies Olivia to Badgley Mischka, Olivia’s on her own. Erin laughs at Olivia thinking she can’t accomplish the task. Erin doesn’t realize she’s dealing with “Ms. Fashion” and “Ms. In the Know”. She obviously didn’t watch theCity last season when Olivia flaunted all her connections at Whitney every second she could. These said connections will come into play, read on.

Then we make our way to Soho at People’s Revolution. Whitney has some of her sketches and fabrics for her clothing line. A reality TV show designer who sketches?! Couldn’t be! Whitney is awesome for that right? She shows them to Roxy who likes most, but says one of the fabrics feels like a couch. Other than the couch, they’re good to go. Roxy aka Ms. Convince gets Whitney to show Kelly the sketches.

Kelly or “Kell” as Whitney calls her, is pleased with Whitney’s start, but says she has a long way to go. She also cuts out a leotard and corsett piece. But Kelly vows to be Whitney’s loyal supporter and help her get her line out. Then Kelly plainly, clearly, and concisely says they need work so DON’T SHOW THEM TO ANYONE YET. Who or what could possibly “convince” Whitney to do otherwise?

Whitney and Roxy meet up with Sami of Bergdorff Goodman fame. Roxy looks really cute with a half up, half down hairdo, simple make-up and simple clothes. We previously were not fans of her style, but she’s good here. Roxy comes up with the “brilliant” idea that Whitney should show her sketches to Sami’s boss. Whitney listens to the Angel on one of her shoulders reminding her that Kelly said not to show the work to anyone, but is ultimately overcome by the Devil (Roxy) on her other shoulder pushing her to show them. Once again Roxy convinces Whitney saying “Kelly’s a PR girl, go to someone who buys clothes”. Do you see the theme of this season yet?

After the break, Olivia jets from the Badgley Mischka show room leaving Erin to be a big girl and check out some collections on her own. She stops by Roberta Freymann who we couldn’t tell if Olivia knew beforehand or not. Roberta Freymann says it’s nice to meet Olivia but Olivia definitely had some kind of connection to her beforehand. Next, Olivia drops by a designer’s show room that’s definitely her friend, Rachel Roy. Rachel Roy gives her some ideas, and Olivia’s on her way. Rachel Roy asks Olivia about the new job at ELLE and Olivia complains about Erin saying she’s not open to helping her.

Next Whitney meets with Sami’s boss Sunni, a buyer at Bergdorff. Whitney shows Sunni her sketches and there’s an awkward silence. You know the kind where you try to keep the conversation going and explain your work because the person looking at them just has a blank face? Yeah, that kind of silence. But Sunni gives Whitney some constructive criticism, then tells Whitney she has great potential, but she’s too early in the process for Sunni to give her any help. She needs to see actual pictures. Kelly told you so, Whitney.

Needless to say, after the break Kelly calls Whitney in her office. It was definitely one of those moments where you feel like you’re back in high school getting called into your teacher’s or principal’s office. Nothing good could come of it. Kelly says she got a call from Bergdorff. Whitney says she wasn’t going behind Kell’s back, but Roxy had the idea that she should show her designs to Sami’s boss. Whitney thought she didn’t have anything to lose, forgetting that she had this little thing called a career to lose. Whitney threw Roxy under the bus and Kelly ran her over saying she needs to stop listening to Roxy. She just got to New York and the fashion world. Roxy may not have your best interest in mind, Whit. Because no one in their right mind would go to Bergdorff with a drawing!! Even we wouldn’t do that.

Back at ELLE, Olivia brings in her finds for the Fall A-Z segment. Doubting Erin is still complaining about Olivia because she wasn’t writing anything down at the showrooms. But Olivia comes in with a tribal trend she found at Rachel Roy and Roberta Freymann. Olivia’s favorite is Rachel Roy’s boombox earrings, which she thinks are “really fly”. What has gotten into Olivia? She went from uptown girl to downtown girl, hustling the bag man and calling Rachel Roy’s earring “fly”. Maybe she’s hung out with Rachel Roy and her hip-hop husband Damon Dash? Olivia finally gets her props, when TV Joe Zee calls her a “star”; Erin reluctantly nods in agreement.

A lot of moving and shaking… There are so many fashion deals and moving and shaking going on in the industry that it’s almost impossible to keep track of them. First off, the saga at the house of Christian Lacroix continues. After filing for court protection from its creditors in Paris a few months ago just before the fall Couture 2009 season, the couture house, which hasn’t turned a profit in its 22 years of existence, may have found a buyer. According to reports, Ajman sheihk has submitted a bid and is looking to inject as much as 70 million euros into the house. Documents have yet to be signed, and financial guarantees are not yet in place.

The promising news continues over at Badgley Mischka, where Mark Badgley and James Mischka are reportedly in talks to launch a lifestyle line with HSN. Specific details on the line, which could hit as early as next fall, have yet to be revealed, but given the state of the industry and how popular high-low designer collaborations have been these past few years (HSN also works with Loulou de la Falaise, Randolph Duke, Beyonce’s mother Tina Knowles, and Molly Sims), the collaboration doesn’t seem very far fetched.

Erin Lucas may not be on theCity anymore, but that doesn’t mean she can’t spill her fashion secrets. Recently we’ve heard all about Whitney, Olivia, Roxy and Erin’s styles. It’s Erin’s turn.

Erin was interviewed by MACS Magazine and dished on her favorite designers and trends. She’s feeling Garet Paru right now, because he’s very “structured” and “gothesque”. She also digs Timo Weildand’s neck pieces.

Erin’s fashion tips for dating is “if you’re going to show one bit, cover the other”. She’s in favor of leaving a little bit to the imagination. We agree. When Erin’s going out with the girls, she likes to dress more fun, opting for sparkles and feathers, and can’t forget the “killer heels”.

When she has a blissful day full of shopping she prefers “a bouncy light dress”, some boots, and a beanie on her head.

Being a New Yorker, Erin’s ready for the season change. She’ll put away her bright colors that don’t work well with layering, but she’ll keep a pair of flip flops out for the random mini-vacation. So necessary!

Erin can’t live without her Rebecca Minkoff Hobo bag, Top Shop thigh high black suede boots, and Badgley Mischka dress. But when she’s travelling, she always packs leggings, a tank and a hoodie.

As for who’s style she admires, her style icons are Chloe Sevigny and Fabiola Beracasa.

Yet more luxury fashion designers are taking the plunge and bringing their wares to a home shopping network. Now Badgley Mischka, purveyor of red-carpet fashion, has signed a licensing deal with HSN to sell apparel, accessories and jewelry “at accessible price points” on the channel.

Badgley Mischka, owned by Iconix Brand Group, will launch its American Glamour collection with HSN during a special two-hour primetime show featuring Mark Badgley and James Mischka at 9 p.m. on Nov. 17, HSN said Thursday.

Prices will range from $39 to $499. “The exclusive new line will convey the key elements of glamour and sophistication that Badgley Mischka is famous for to classic essentials that can transition from day to evening,” according to HSN’s press release.

The famous fashion duet has already been expanding beyond the couture world, with a line of fashion jewelry sold at retailers such as Lord & Taylor. The pieces are huge, with enormous rhinestones and crystals, suitable for black-tie events, clubbing and weddings.

“We are very pleased to be launching American Glamour with HSN,” Badgley and Mischka said in a canned statement. ”It is exciting to be able to reach out directly to both existing and new customers and offer them glamorous and chic pieces that transition from day to evening easily and are quintessentially Badgley Mischka.”
