I’ve been listening to a lot of music recently. For awhile there, I’d hardly listened to anything outside of my car.

Lately, I’ve been digging Tegan & Sara pretty hard, but I’ve also put Tim Fite and Dustin Kensrue back into my heart. And then a lesser known band called Passenger.

It doesn’t really matter what I’m listening to. Just the fact that I make time to appreciate some music in the forefront of my consciousness makes my day. I can do background music, but intentional listening fills me up so much.

Erica and I were watching Elf tonight and Zooey Deschanel’s character tells Will Farrel’s character that she doesn’t sing in public. Only in private. And then he starts singing loudly and terribly in public to show her that it’s the same.

I then explained to Erica, as is our habit whenever any random thought comes to mind, that I hate that: when people can sing well, but won’t anywhere near where an ant passing by might hear. I, on the other hand, love to sing, and people hope I don’t. Or, when you sing out loud, other people will sing along, but softer. They don’t belt it, or they try and sound really good, even though you are obviously just on this side of yelling the words.

The point is, I love music so much because it always makes me want to sing. Or dance. Or, like with Tegan & Sara recently, play it- be a part of it. And when I say music, I mean the music I love. I will not claim to like everything, though I believe I have a certain ecelecticism to my taste. But, the music I like, I love.

So, I guess dancing in my room getting dressed, letting my wet hair freeze because the dark lingers longer these mornings, singing to my iPod makes my day.

HCM CITY — Binh Chanh District in HCM City is badly polluted because of poor management of solid and liquid waste and the lack of a master plan, city officials have said.

Waste water from the district’s Le Minh Xuan Industrial Park had polluted 66 out of its 226 canals, which could no longer supply water for people’s daily use and irrigation, said Nguyen Thi Du, chief inspector at the Department of Natural Resources and Environment.

Du told city agencies at a meeting last Friday that her inspection team found 27 facilities in the industrial park releasing untreated waste water into the environment though the park authority had reported only two of them.

The team also discovered waste water dumped in seven of nine ditches in the park used to collect rainwater for drainage.

“Some facilities in the district’s Vinh Loc Industrial Park are licensed to produce glue but are in reality recycling harmful solvents,”said Ngo Thanh Duc, deputy head of the department’s Solid Waste Division, adding that they then released the effluents untreated into the environment.

Duc warned that the district had become a destination for many unregistered facilities who set up temporary bases to recycle solid waste after being driven away from other districts.

Nguyen Van Tuoi, deputy chairman of the district, admitted this, saying:”Most polluters from the city have come to the district and worsened the pollution here.”

City officials told the meeting that they feared the district’s canals would soon be unable to support life – just like those in District 8 – unless authorities took timely measures.

Municipal authorities last Wednesday met officials at the district’s Da Phuoc Solid Waste Treatment Complex following public complaints about the seepage of water from the complex’s landfill and called for quickly finishing construction of the complex.

Also last week the city People’s Committee ordered the environment department to investigate pollution caused by some small factories in Da Phuoc Commune.

Tran Trong Tuan, the district chairman, said his administration was determined to root out polluters setting up shop in the district even if it meant a loss of tax revenue.

Huynh Cong Hung, deputy head of the People’s Council’s Economics and Budget Committee, said the tardiness in planning, which had caused uncontrolled urbanisation, has led to the pollution problems.

Commitee head Pham Van Dong admitted that the district had submitted its master plan as long ago as last year to the committee’s Department of Planning and Architecture and was awaiting for approval.

Nguyen Dinh Luan of the architecture department promised to complete appraisal of the plan and submit it to the city People’s Committee for approval in November. —

Being in 5th grade, you have limited choices on what you can do. Joining chorus was one of them. You can either do band and chorus, or chorus and orchestra. Or any of them alone. I chose chorus and orchestra.

Well, chorus means singing, and I’m not able to hit high notes. Of course, with all the luck I draw, thats usually all the notes we hit. Luck, luck, luck. I seriously think that I have a little devil on my shoulder waiting to ruin me.

Chorus would meet every Thursday right after lunch. We would then practice our songs for the upcoming concert. Usually we would have five songs a day. After those five songs we were then dismissed for recess.

Well, one day, I was in chorus, and practicing a song with my group. The ending consisted in very high notes, which of course, I couldn’t hit. And my chorus teacher knew someone in that room (she didn’t know it was me), couldn’t hit them, either. She was growing more and more frusterated, and kept making us sing the same high notes over and over. The kids in my chorus group were starting to look around, to see who was not singing the notes right. My face grew hot, because, of course, it was me. And, of course, no one knew that.

By the nineth time around, I decided to mouth the words. When I did, my chorus teacher smiled with delight and said “Perfect! Lets move on…”.

From that moment on, I realized that little devil on my shoulder had a friend, and they were determined to make this one loooooooooooong chorus year.

For the rest of that year, I mouthed those last few notes to that song. Even in the concert, I did. And the chorus teacher continued to be very happy with those few last notes.

So this is how most blogs go right… you talk about your day. Hopefuly I am right so than I don’t look like a dork. That’s the last thing I want to look like right now..eww..anyways.. I had a rude awakening today! My cousin was over and her cell phone went off and it was right beside my head and it was loud…grr.. I was mad. Haha then I had to go drop her off at her old house so she could get her stuff for her move. I was still soo tired by then. And then my mother came up with idea to go to ikea in the city so I spent a hour getting there. I almost fell asleep…..maybe that would have helped, but my little sister was watching a movie that was painfuly loud that = happy Rachel…not… But on the upside of things I got a new desk which I badly need and I also got two book shelfs and a lamp. I also had to chuck my little rug because it was growing mold and it made my whole room smell. It was bad. I have to help my mom with my sister`s room while she is gone to camp. She is painting her room blue and red. I think it`s going to look cool but my mom isn`t that sure. I had to while my mom went to have coffee with a friend take the base boards off her walls. I stepped on a nail and a base board fell on me…three times ahhh. And the metal tool thingo I was using fell on my toe and it hurt really badly. I almost dropped a desk down the stairs today too…I was carrying a desk up the stairs so then we can give it away. Ya I almost dropped it…I am clumsy

A juvenile humpback whale has died after beaching on Cable Beach near Albany.                                                                                                                                   

The 7m whale was found on the beach about noon on Sunday.

Albany Department of Environment and Conservation officer Peter Collins said there was nothing the department could do to help it back out to sea.

“There was limited access to the area where it was beached and the whale was lodged behind the reef,” Mr Collins said.

“It probably weighed around five or six tonnes and, unfortunately, we couldn’t do anything.”

Mr Collins said whale had been badly “scratched up” by the reef but otherwise, at least on the surface, seemed in good condition.

He said that there were no plans to move it as it was believed the current would eventually shift it out into the ocean.

“The public are welcome to go have a look at it but remember, dead whales attract sharks,” Mr Collins said.

“So I would warn anyone against swimming at Cable Beach for a while.”

I was looking at a phone and wanted more information. What did I do? I searched for it. Now what happens when you click a random link, that you have never visited? Either you find the information you want, or you find this!

This website was a photo of My Computer on Windows. I’m not an idiot, I noticed that right away! I found it strange that it knew my IP Though. Probably one of those widgets that freak (or entertain) people out.

I really started to laugh when I noticed that it said that I had a Local Disk. Since when!? I’m on a laptop computer, with no external hard drive connected at the moment when the screen cap was taken! I also noticed that at the top of the documents folders, it said “System Scan Progress.” Of course that’s not suspicious. Unless you notice it. And take a look at the Windows Security Alert. It reads “Wstart.TrojanDownloader” Wstart!? You mean Windows start up? Apparently, there’s a Trojan in my Windows Start Up File.

After clicking cancel on the poorly made Javascript boxes, the website started sending me unauthorized virus downloads. (Obviously Trojans.) Luckily the files were .exe. Not anything that harm my computer (Unless I ran Virtual PC, which doesn’t even work on Leopard.)

I was lucky that I was using a Mac but, if you fall into this Trojan Plot, don’t open the downloads that you did not authorize! Instead, just close the window, and click cancel on the Javascript box. Then delete the downloads that it sent you.

Oh Yeah, what a poorly made website. If you’re trying to send people viruses, at least make it look believable.

Wicked Comb-Over

Jim’s hair-sprayed locks clumped together like withered road-kill.  His hot towel shave and facial had disrupted the ground cover cocooning his barren scalp.  With balanced skin and shaving challenges solved, it was time for Jim to address the neurosis behind his wicked comb-over.

While it’s not too late to improve the odds of keeping healthy abundant hair on the heads of our teenage sons and daughters simply by choosing biologically appropriate  hair care products and healthy nutrition, baldies like Jim have little recourse once the follicles begin to fall. 

Men with male pattern baldness tend to have gorgeous, well proportioned heads that shouldn’t be obstructed by random tuffs of hair.  When shaved smooth and properly hydrated, these kissable noggins are guaranteed the Lion’s share of attention.

Opting for the chance to start over, Jim was ready to try life as a bona fide Q-Ball. Therefore, the first rule for him to embrace when it comes to matters of the head was “If it won’t grow right, get it gone from sight.” Basically, if your hair-do looks anything like Friar Tuck or a hemorrhoid ring, get to your barber and ask for a No.1 or zero guard, all over. Chances are, you won’t be able to talk your barber into wet shaving your head to a slick smooth Q-Ball finish, so you will need to invest in the right tools and follow a Q-Ball head shaving program for the next 30 days for the best head start.
