This is not easy to do, having to say good-bye to your best friend. Ham was just that and will be missed terribly. I brought her home from Mexico 14 years ago - she was a starving street pup that needed a little help. We ended up being pals for the last fourteen years. People talk about unconditional love, but I never knew it or felt it until the Ham came into my life. More so the older she grew and the more medical problems she had. I had thought it was the dog that gave unconditional love to their owner, but I found, with Ham, it works both ways – there was nothing I would not do for her and I loved her for exactly who she was, as she was. It was a pleasure without effort. And she taught me so much about being and loving by just being who she was. After 14 years we could understand each other by a look or a movement and I found the most profound happiness in seeing Ham happy, either having her favorite snack, smelling the air for the latest updates or taking a nap in the cool shade when we were at work on the ranch. Nothing can describe our connection and I can only hope she felt it too. Love the Ham!
