A new Wii game called simply Yoga is coming later this month or early next month, depending on which website you rely on.  The game is led by a model whose credentials apparently consist of being a model, being in a number of product advertising campaigns, liking yoga a lot, and looking great in a triangle pose.

But according to an article in the Times of India, there are actual yoginis from the land of yoga behind the development of  Yoga.  The article states that this is the first Wii game to be developed by an Indian company, that it will be released worldwide in five languages, and a group of testers has been going through the motions on Wii balance boards for nearly a year.

Two new additions to the DDR franchise, Dance Dance Revolution Hottest Party 3 for Wii and Dance Dance Revolution X2 for PS2, were released this past Tuesday.  I’m still looking around for reviews; for HP3, one DDR novice posted a positive review on Amazon and the buzz on GameFAQs has been pretty good.

The balance board mode for HP3 seems to be working well by all accounts.  I still haven’t heard anything about doubles or workout mode for either game.  Maybe I’ll see if I can test either game out at a store.  So far they are only being retailed in bundles.

Update:  Here’s a good, thorough review of HP3 on Diehard GameFan.  The reviewer raves, but also points out that selling the game only in an expensive pad/game bundle, punishes the fans who already have pads from 1 and 2.  Come on, Konami – at least give us doubles mode (or triples or quad) so we have a reason for all that plastic.

The short answer: yes.

Wii Fit Plus effectively makes the original obsolete. It takes almost everything from the original and adds more: streamlined weighing, six new exercises, 15 new games, calorie measures for exercises and the ability to create workout setlists.

My one principal complaint is that you can’t add jogging to the exercise setlist.

If you’re a fan of the original and have a balance board, the $20 upgrade price is well worth it. If you’ve never tried Wii Fit before, now may be the time to start sweating it.

BTW I called this Force of July because at my aunt’s house there was a cable channel playing Star Wars movies all day and advertised the marathon as Force of July.

After Sony and Microsoft both announced hardware price cuts a few weeks ago, every podcast, analyst, fanboy, and even some Wall Street types focused on what Nintendo still had in its hand (other than some million dollar bills).

As of this writing, a Wii price drop is finally, officially confirmed.  And really, I think everyone saw this coming over the last few days, as some awfully official-looking channels tipped the new $200 MSRP in the US.  Still no word on other territories.

Of course, a price drop is always good news for consumers in an economy like this, and Nintendo is now the first in this hardware generation to find the magic $200 mark for their full-featured SKU.  Part of me still wonders if Nintendo really NEEDED a price drop this holiday, though.  They’ve got a solid holiday lineup with a new, critically-acclaimed Wii Sports already on shelves and a family-friendly Mario game due out in November.  Besides, the Wii flew off shelves the last 3 holiday seasons at $250.

I was actually expecting a new Wii SKU to hold the line on price, but sweeten the deal on pack-ins.  Another Wii remote & nunchuck, perhaps Motion Plus add-ons or a Balance Board would add value to that $250.

Buried deep within the price drop announcement is a release date for New Super Mario Bros. Wii.  It’s November 15.  This is big news for yours truly, as my baby daughter’s release date is November 14.  A Super Mario game that allows up to four players simultaneously, the day after my family grows by one “player.”  Synergy!

I really am surprised that no one else has picked up on this yet. The Wii Fit is Nintendo’s boldest move toward the totalitarian surveillance culture that is surely their Ultimate Goal.

You don’t believe me? Tell me, what is the Wii Fit. It’s a game on the Nintendo Wii which asks you to perform various exercises in front of your television. Correct?

Now, I’d like you to open a copy of George Orwell’s Nineteen Eight-four. If you don’t a own copy, you can visit this site. Turn to Chapter Three. Now find the following passage:

‘Thirty to forty group!’ yapped a piercing female voice. ‘Thirty to forty group! Take your places, please. Thirties to forties!’

Winston sprang to attention in front of the telescreen, upon which the image of a youngish woman, scrawny but muscular, dressed in tunic and gym-shoes, had already appeared.

Sound familiar? That’s right. Winston is being asked to perform various exercises in front of his television.

Now do you believe me?

(Incidentally, I can’t work out whether Orwell was another prophet like myself, and his words are being twisted by an insidious mouth, or if he wrote Nineteen Eighty-four as an instruction manual specifically for Nintendo. So far my research hasn’t come across anything conclusive.)

Of course, we have no way of telling if Nintendo are already observing us as we twist and bend on our Balance Boards. I have yet to open up a Sensor Bar, so I can’t be certain if they do have a micro-camera in there. But surely it’s only a matter of time before the once amiable face of Mario is barking aerobics-based orders at us every morning.

It won’t stop there, either. Who knows the extent to which the Wii Fit’s technology could govern our lives. When to wake up, to go to sleep? When to eat, to drink, to defecate? What to eat and drink. When to mate, and with whom. I honestly believe that Nintendo will stop at nothing until they have absolute and unshakable control over our every move.

And it all started with that first step onto your Balance Board.

The Wii Fit has been around for what I believe is a little over a year now. When this first came out, it was the only thing anyone could talk about. A video game that is actually good for you? The idea sounded great; unfortunately, the execution was subpar.

For approximately $90 the user can purchase the game kit which includes a Wii Balance Board and the game disc. The Wii Balance Board is an item that looks similiar to a standard scale, except it has more functions than just determining weight. The Board has hte ability to determine balance, which allows the game to give the user feedback about whether they are doing the exercises properly. So far it still sounds great, right?

When it comes to the actually exercises, this is where the game does not meet our expectations. The exercises are not nearly intense enough to qualify as a real workout, and the fact that the user can only select one exercise at a time and must sit through the entire ending sequence after each one forces most to quickly lose interest. The time it takes to pick an exercise and what the ending sequence is longer than the time it takes to do the actual exercise.

The only exercises I found worthwhile were Advanced Step and Free Step. The two of these actually have the ability to increase the heart rate and burn a decent amount of calories, if done right.

If someone is looking for fun rather than exercise, this game has a few good features. There are some games included that are meant to help improve balance. The user can play a game where he or she has to hit soccer balls with their head and dodge to avoid flying sneakers. Another game is an interactive version of the much loved classic “Slalom.”

The Balance Board can also be used with other games. If you are like me and you found yourself disappointed with the Wii Fit, think of it as an investment since many developers are now trying to incorporate the board into their games. If you are one of the few who actually enjoy the Wii Fit for the classic Nintendo cheesy lovable fun, hats off to you.

La primera aparición de esta serie se dio en el NES, inmediatamente (debido a la buena recepción) se dejo venir una secuela en el fabuloso SNES; para después ser olvidada en el baúl de los recuerdos de Nintendo. Ni el N64 ni el Gamecube fueron dignas plataformas para otra entrega de esta franquicia. Cuando Nintendo nos muestra el revolucionario esquema de control del Wii, no era cuestión de si llegaría la nueva entrega de PUNCH OUT!! si no ¿cuando?.

PUNCH OUT!! (si la doble exclamación es necesaria) es desarrollado por Next Level Games, la compañía detrás de Super Mario Strikers, con lo que la reputación en un juego de deportes de Nintendo ya la tienen. Al contrario del minijuego de boxeo de Wii Sports este juego si te brinda una experiencia más completa para desarrollar tus habilidades en el pugilismo. Ya que es necesario tener más precisión midiendo tus golpes y cuidar más el timing al tratar de encontrar las debilidades de tus enemigos para explotarlas. Ya sea para bloquear un ataque de furia o encontrar el momento preciso para conectar ese gancho derecho que mandará a tu oponente a la lona, el juego te reta tanto en estrategia como en acción.

Mhmhmh...me tendré que agachar??

El juego incluye diferentes esquemas de control por lo que no es difícil encontrar el que más te guste o se acomode a tu forma de jugar. También tiene compatibilidad con el Balance Board (ya sabes la bascula de Wii Fit) la cual te sirve para tratar de darte más realismo a la hora de tener que evitar los ataques enemigos ; hay que tener en cuenta que (por obvias razones) cuando usas la bascula no eres igual de rápido que cuando tienes solo el Nunchk y Wiimote, pero por experiencia personal me gusto este esquema por que te hace sentir más en sintoniza con Little Mac y eleva considerablemente la dificultad del juego, aunque si es una chinga.

El juego cuenta con un buen Replay Value ya que aún cuando te conviertes en campeón, llegan los mismos enemigos que ya derrotaste pero ahora tienen diferentes estrategias y sus debilidades son más difíciles de explotar. Le condeno a Nintendo el hecho de que tampoco puedas jugar en linea cosa que le hubiera brindado muchisismo valor al juego pero al menos tiene un modo versus donde dos personas utilizan a Little Mac.

Soporte a la Balance Board . Por fin otro buen juego aprovecha esa bascula que solo tu mamá o (esposa en mi caso) utiliza.
Gran replay value.  Gracias a las estadisticas individuales y el nuevo modo de Defender el Titulo, estarás jugando este juego por un buen tiempo.

Buen diseño. Te vas a sentir todo un campeon ya que el juego te brinda un sentimiento muy solido de que estas logrando escalar cada que derrotas a uno de tus oponentes.

Personajes Humoristicos. Amaras u odiaras a los personajes (que hablan en su propio idioma de acuerdo a su nacionalidad) pero definitivamente te harán reir con sus atcuaciones exageradas.

Ejercitate. Este juego hará que te levantes del sillon, y si no eres de esos; el clasico control (volteando tu Wiimote) te recordará tus ayeres.

No tiene juego en linea. Aunque sea para los Leader Board pero sabemos que no es lo de Nintendo.

Demasiado Retro. La mayoría de los personajes son solo contrapartes en 3D de los juegos previos, si hubiera agradecido nuevos personajes.

En pocas palabras si eres dueño de un Wii, este juego es una obligación para tí.
