Laidback Luke & Lee Mortimer – Blau! (Original Mix) Fidget. I am usually not a fan of Laidback Lukes productions but this one is really good! It has the familiar fidget intro that drops into some really trance – like synths and then the kick! Bouncy melody, great production and some off – vocals!

Submission Djs – Baleraic (Original Mix) Tribal House. Sounds like a “summer song” with big drums, female vocals and a really big piano hook. To be honest it kind of sounds like every other song in this genre, but that does not have to be a bad thing. Go get!

Alvaro – Make It Funky (Original Mix) House. A bit old by now but a really “catchy” track. Really simple build, just the vocals “Make it Funky” and a good synth melody with some added drums. Give it a try.

La Mezcla feat. Toto La Momposina -La Mezcla (Paul Kalkbrenner Remix) House. The enormously big hit “La Mezcla” has now been remixed by the Berlin based techno producer Paul Kalkbrenner, who in my opinion, is a fantastic producer. This remix is by far the best version I have heard of this track. Its ten minutes long, it has some really good sounding drums, new vocals and a piano added to the melody, and of course, the flute – hook from the original song.

Isn’t it great when you hear a new tunesmith whose music excites. Joy Orbison is ticking all my boxes at the moment. Curiously none of the blogs can pigeon-hole the genre, no offense but the dance fan-boys get pretty train-spotter about whether something is UK funky or dubstep or…

But Joy Orbison is confounding labeling, it reminds me of the original Balearic mixes, in the way it mashes together a host of dance styles into something joyous that takes both the feet and the mind on a journey. Ibiza 2.0 seems like a good tag for now.

If you’re not residing on sunnier shores, and your end of the world is momentarily covered in darkness for most of its 24 hours – there’s a very good reason to read on.

The leftovers of Beta Band – The Aliens – may be a bed full of 1960’s, loved-up Psych-rock, but when handled by – Disco Bloodbath – on their “Sunlamp Show” there is plenty opportunity to switch on your inner strobe, and join the spectacle.

Disco Bloodbath sets sail on a love cruise to the Balearics in shuffling mid-tempo fashion, and delivers 9′43″ mins. of stereophonic sunshine beamed straight at you for a Nu Disco knees-up…..just wait for that piano to kick in!

It might not give you a tan, but their take on “Sunlamp Show” shimmers and glows in the dark, and will leave you in a sweat longing for long cool drinks, bikini babes and a spot on the bright side.

There may be a long time ’til Summer 2010, but drop this and you’re dangerously close to the real thing.

Here is a recording of The Warm Sounds Live show on Pirate Revival net radio from Tuesday evening, 2hrs of randomly selecting tunes and putting them in the mix. The Warm Sounds Show is still in its infancy and has been running for little over 6 months, it is very organic, and requires no pre-planning or programming, just simply selecting tunes that spring to mind at the time and play what is being felt. It is completely live, so warts and all are included, no rewind or retakes (for those that need to know the hardware used… 2 x SL1210’s, 2 x Pioneer CDJ’s & a Mixer). The show goes out live on Pirate Revival every other Tuesday evening between 6pm-8pm GMT, and is just intended as bit of fun by playing good music to friends and music lovers. It is not “old Skool” centric, in truth playing the same 88-93 records over and over again for the last decade has become a little tiresome so this show explores other musical interests, although a nod to a much loved and influential era of my life can be felt and heard…..apologies in advanced for the lack of mic skills.

This fantastic rework by Prins Thomas of Junior Boys – “Work” – has been the soundtrack of my weekend. I’ve actually had it for a while, but for some reason it slipped under my radar in the sea of other stuff. Shame on me!

Nevertheless – if you can’t face the music you should definitely stick “Work” in your ears, and perhaps go for a wander and watch leaves falling while listening to this. It comes drenched in Autumn magic!

Prins Thomas weaves his magic spell over 11′00″mins with a beautiful acoustic sounding production with a slight Folk-Disco feel. Subtle acoustic kick, Balearic sounding guitars, gorgeous arpeggio you can actually whistle to and the whole she-bang creamed off with that husky sounding, Folk-inspired Junior Boys vocal.

A fitting start to a Monday morning – now work it!

I mean, I have played these tracks too too much, so I have to externalize them here, to distance myself a bit, or better yet, just EXTERMINATE them like a sonic stormtropper, to clear the terrain: they … are.. mere..ly…. bits…..of….sou..nd…but..butbut… aaaaaahhh!!

The Flaming Lips – Silver Trembling Hands (yet another weird psychedelic battle theme for pink robots! I can hear the intro a hundred times over, how can a scream and a cymbal followed by pumping bass be so good?)

Nite Jewel – What Did He Say (dark and milky disco)

Deleted Scenes – Ithaca (drifty indie folk with beautiful vocal passages)

Washed Out – Feel It All Around (dreamy sounds of balearic beaches)

Memory Tapes – Bicycle (and the dream continues… and it gets darker… and it builds into an electro track)

Tigercity – Powerstripe (falsetto disco electro pop)

Deerhunter – Agoraphobia (ghostly indie lullaby)

Shahs – Handreader (surf funk ambient indie)

The Pains of Being Pure At Heart – Higher Than The Stars (slightly noisy indie pop sounding very swedish)

It’s kind of understandable why Florence & The Machine are on their hands and knees over the rework of the Candi Staton classic – “You’ve Got The Love”.

Especially since the key remixes are done by none less than Mr. Global Communication himself – Tom Middleton.

Originally performed for BBC Radio 1 in Ibiza as an acoustic, sunset version – “You’ve Got The Love” – now comes as a fully fledged single containing nothing less than 4 mixes from Tom Middleton.

Including both an Instrumental, Radio Edit and a rather pointless, speeded-up House version – the key mix is however Tom’s Vocal Mix, which struts along in right Balearic, mid-tempo fashion complete with chugging, acidic appegios and enough string action to beam you to Venus and back in a whisker.

It’s a rather brave move by Florence & The Machine to get to grips with a classic of this calibre, but thankfully they pull it off in style, and especially Tom Middleton saves the day in this Milky Way workout.
