There’s been a fair few bands mixing up punk and gypsy influences recently. Most notably Gogol Bordello have found themselves heralded as one of the most exciting bands around both on record and on the live circuit. Like Gogol, The Penny Black Remedy’s songs have a distinct Eastern European flavour to them which is somewhat unsurprising seeing as vocalist/percussionist Marijana Hajdarhodizc is Croatian. At the centre of the band however is Scot songwriter Keith M Thomson who claims all the songwriting credits on the album. Despite this, it would appear that the cultural influence of his band mates has bled through into his writing as the gypsy sound is stamped all over the place.
This is an album that could have gone drastically wrong. To blend ska, punk, metal, rock and roll handclaps and country over the course of an album is a bold thing to attempt; The Penny Black Remedy do frequently do it over the course of a single song. If you’re not in the mood for it, then it could be something of a challenge, but as soon as the band takes you by the hand there’s no chance that you won’t be in the mood.

Izvanredan album neverovatnog zvuka. Album odlične atmosfere, ambijentalnog tipa, stvarno nešto novo na ovom blogu.

Naravno trebaju nam još nekeinformacije i bilo bi lepo da se javite ako nešto znate lepo o ovoj grupi.

PSIHOKRATIJA

Protestbevægelsen har fået ret i sine centrale afsløringer om befolkningsstatistikken, fremmeudgifterne og kriminalitetens beskrivelse – uden at det indrømmes i andet end småbidder langt væk fra TV-skærmen :

Først var det en lektor i demografi (befolkningsstatistik) Hans Oluf Hansen i Berlingske Tidende den 20. august 2005, så Rockwool Fonden den 25. november 2006, så Velfærdskommissionen i referat i Børsen den 1. december 2005, og også en tidligere embedsmand, der var kommet i Folketinget, sneg sig ind og som skiltede med brudstykker af nogle kritiske kendsgerninger den 2. oktober 2006 i fire store aviser, kendsgerninger som IoD havde bragt ud til offentligheden samlet og dækkende 15 år tidligere. Hans chef Bertel Haarder sendte den nyindvalgtes politikers overvejelser i syltekrukke.

Information om Danmark så det som sin pligt uanset prisen fra starten i 1991 at vise mere ærligt, hvorledes tingene hænger sammen, og hvorfra magten reelt udøves i håb om, at de, der var holdt op med at stole på politikerne, der i øvrigt ikke har ret meget magt, ville tage bladet fra munden. Vi var selvfølgelig stærkt inspireret af de utallige bedrag knyttende sig til masseindvandringen og bedragene om EU. IoD skrev på visitkortet:

“IoD indsamler og viderebringer den politisk ukorrekte information. Mental-robotterne vil ikke kende den, fordi sandheden truer det cyberspace eller glansbillede, som autoriteterne fodrer dem med dagligt.”

Projekt Europa lagt i stram tidstabel: Eurabia på faste gænger

IoD rettede især energien mod mulige pionerer for sandheden, fordi de rå statements var og skulle være politikernes. Det viste sig imidlertid, at danskerne i almindelighed var næsten ligeglade med deres lands skæbne, eller de gad/gider i hvert fald ikke bruge energi på at tilegne sig reel information, så de kunne/kan svare sikkert igen på løgnene.

Selvom dette netop var det eneste, der skulle til for, at løgnene ikke kunne viderebringes.

Det blev i stedet dansk nykultur at undvige enhver selvstændig vurdering af og stillingtagen til snart sagt alt (marionetter er vi blevet). D. v. s. hundrede procent accept af den politisk korrekte indstilling, aktivt eller stiltiende.

Der var så en hel del, der gerne ville underholdes eller bekræftes præcis som de blogbesøgende i 2009. Disse typer havde vi dengang rendende privat til kaffe og småkager i slutningen af 1980-erne. I dem var ikke noget arbejde, der kunne bringe sagerne videre. IoD valgte allerede fra midten af 1990erne ikke at bruge energi på de passive.

IoD ville have vore landsmænd til at holde op med at tie og gemme sig, og ville have dem op af lænestolene, hvor de alt for længe havde/har siddet for mageligt. Helt centralt tog IoD fra midten af 1990-erne flere problemstillinger op, end de indtil da eksisterende organisationer “i branchen” havde gjort.

At de overbeviste kulturradikalister og internationalister, som eliten og dens håndgangne består af, eventuelt skulle komme på bedre tanker, kan du lade helt ude af betragtning. Der skal voldsomt negative personlige erfaringer af multikulturel karakter til, og selv i sådanne tilfælde, er det vores erfaring, at ideologien, der grundlaget for hele deres tilværelse, ikke forkastes. I alle tilfælde ville tidsfaktoren være så altdominerende, at det meste ville være spildt i alle tilfælde. Hele deres liv bygger på en løgn og omfatter alt.

Alt peger på folk ikke tager sig sammen denne gang. Uden en folkelig front mod det værste, der starter med løgnene, kommer vi ingen vegne. Landet vil så gå tabt, inden dine små børn bliver voksne, hvis det fortsætter cirka som nu. Dette er ikke noget man kan stole på eller lade være at stole på; det er såmænd ren matematik. Danskerne og andre europæiske nationers folk skal turde at ofre lidt af deres sikkerhed, ellers kommer der ingen mærkbare ændringer i den lagte dødssejler-kurs, vurderer vi herfra.

Det var blevet tydeligt for mange, også uden for de mere eller mindre hemmelige selskaber, at det ikke kun var bedrageri og løgne om indvandringen, om arbejdsløsheden og løgne om EU fra danske politikere, medierne, fagbevægelsen, arbejdsgiverforeningerne, skoler, institutioner og f. eks. indvandrer-industrien. Næsten alle de centrale afsløringer om indvandringen kom fra nogle ganske få i “branchen”- cirka 5000 støttede med få midler og meget arbejde.

De blev officielt beskyldt for og kaldt stort set alt nedsættende, udelukkende for at lukke munden på dem, når de fortalte sandheden, der i hvert fald er det modsatte af løgn. De blev overfaldet på gaden, og når de gik til møder, modtog mordtrusler pr. telefon og fik også jævnligt trusselsbreve pr. brev, senere pr. email. De få, der havde meldt sig uden videre, var frygtløse og velorienterede individer, der ikke lod sig skræmme til at indstille kampen p.g.a. ubegavede trusler. En trussel er overflødig, hvis man ikke ændrer sit handlingsmønster. Præcis som under sidste krig.

Smædekampagnerne i gammelmarxistisk stil kørte for fuld gas. IoD tilstræbte at holde sig væk fra den gængse politik, når det ikke netop drejede sig om disse for os eksistens-spørgsmål, i hvert fald for vore børn og deres efterkommere.

Hvordan begyndte det?

Lidt om baggrunden:

Vi fortalte sandheden – det modsatte af løgn, som propaganda-medierne bringer – om bl.a. indvandringen fra Bosnien-Herzegovina 1991-1993 efter det internationale samfunds skæbnesvangre indblanding i konflikten. Vi fortsatte i 1999 med at fortælle sandheden om det, der foregik og foregår i Kosovo.

IOD startede som en protestbevægelse i begyndelsen af 1990-erne. Vi uddelte 110.000 løbesedler til alle brevsprækker i de mere end 100 områder, hvor der blev taget en flygtningeby i brug til midlertidig indhusning af de nye indvandrere, hvoraf 9 udaf 10 i dag er flyttet i dansk lejlighed eller tvangsauktionet bolig pr. diskriminerende særlov. Fra begyndelsen af 1990-erne var vi også begyndt at efterforske svaret på spørgsmålet: Hvorfor blev Danmark og Europa gjort til indvandreområder, når enhver ærlig efterhånden kunne se, at konsekvensen måtte blive nationernes opløsning efter en krig, der blev mere og mere uundgåelig?

Samtidig lagde vi mærke til at flere andre vigtige emner ikke blev behandlet troværdigt. Arbejdsløsheden, kriminaliteten, statsgælden, de europæiske integrationsbestræbelser. Der var intet reelt indhold i ret mange af nyhederne på skærmen og for såvidt ej heller i dagbladene. Det var mest form, stemning suppleret med bekræftelses-interviev – på bekostning af kendsgerninger og indhold.

Der var sket noget andet også: Noget med skolebørnene og de unge. Kundskabstilegnelsen var tilsyneladende blevet skubbet i baggrunden. Historien (f.eks.) havde man intet kendskab til. Af gode grunde, der blev ikke længere undervist i faget historie. Der var alle mulige andre problemer i samme forbindelse. Læse og skrive kunne op imod halvdelen af eleverne heller ikke efter 9-10 års skolegang.

Men det var ikke det eneste…. Hvilke kendetegn har den demokratiske styreform fået, den styreform som vi stort set alle i princippet priser. Velstanden blev udskiftet med tildelt velfærd. De formelle magthavere og de materielle ressourcer skabt af flittige og dygtige europæere blev én front i konflikten, der opstod.

En uddannelseseksplosion i Nordeuropa førte op imod halvdelen af en ungdomsårgang i 1990-erne paradoksalt nok til en studieforberedende uddannelse med endestation i den bureaukratiske sektor, en anden front. Kampen om kundskaberne eller kampen mod kundskaberne…?

En del af disse unge syntes at tro de kom op i universet – op til sandheden eller hvad overtroen ellers byder på – ved at gå på universitetet. Der skabtes de gangbare ideologier, som havde de reelle magthavernes bevågenhed og samtidig gav kandidaterne de eftertragtede kvalifikationer, først og fremmest. Alt var nyt og smart, alt var brugbart, hvis det vel at mærke passede ind i den lagte ideologibaserede plan.

Sandheden er (det,) hvad du tror på(?) (bogmanuskript)

For eksempel nationaløkonomitermerne blev efter Den anden Verdenskrig ikke forstået af ret mange mennesker. Ordene var sort snak, dyre begreber, som kun nogle få forstod efter lang tids studium. Det gav den ønskede rollefordeling. Det var der en helt oplagt, ganske selvindlysende årsag til. Der skete noget med individerne, bl.a. via opdragelsen og den usande TV- og mediekultur, og socialismen markedsførtes på ny i 1960-erne og 1970-erne, da børnene født under eller lige efter krigen var vokset til.

Nu fik Europa det skidt efter Europa-opbygningen og Den anden Verdenskrig og opgangen i 1950-erne og 1960-erne. Der er en verden uden for Europa, der kastede det formelle koloniherredømme af sig og stillede krav om en tilværelse. Aktiviteten var nu truet i et Europa – langt mere end det berettedes i medierne – et Europa, hvor alt havde været muligt. Dynamikken forsvandt tilsyneladende med ansvaret, og statsgælden voksede påny som i 1920-erne og 1930-erne. Der kunne tales om statsgælden igen som et problem, men ikke seriøst i det brede forum og slet ikke blandt tidens dagsordensættere af den politiske korrekthed.

Pludselig var statsgælden væk 31. marts 2006 – det var løgn

Sandheden er måske det, man kan få folk til at tro.

Der var lagt planer for et helt nyt Europa, et integreret Europa, en forbundsstat eller et statsforbund. Her kunne ansvarforflygtigelsen måske fortsætte. Vi valgte at redegøre for den del af historien, der angår de forældede økonomibetragtningers tilblivelse – fordi ét af de stærkeste instrumenter i udviklingen ligger her – og den menneskelige ulykke, der skal findes i, at alt for mange individer synes at gå til grunde umiddelbart fra starten af deres skoletid.

Europa må kæmpe for sin arv

Børnene og de unge er helt uden skyld, det skal understreges.

Der førtes en anden krig end den fysiske under Den anden Verdenskrig, en finansiel krig. Et grundigt gennemprøvet tysk eksperimental-psykologisk projekt fra 1800-tallet erobrede opdragelses- og undervisningssystemet i U.S.A. før 2. Verdenskrig. Efter 2. Verdenskrig gjaldt det Europa. Der var lagt en plan for Europa, en for verden, længe forinden du blev født. Den Nye Verdens Orden eller Abernes Planet kan slutmålet kaldes alt efter smag.

The Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction created an international treaty and legal mechanism in order to find children that have been abducted. This is just one treaty or law that has been enacted in order to recover children that have been taken away from their loved ones. However, it is really important to make sure that every state has a means to deal with and track down children that have gone missing. Children get abducted for a number of reasons: •Intent to raise the child as their own
•A parent takes the child from the other parent’s care
•For ransom

Despite the seriousness of child abductions it is not publicized enough. This may in part be because the statistics are not very clear. Data collection by different organizations can differ drastically from the definition of “abducted child” to a motivation explanation. Consequently, comparing the numbers is not very helpful or simple. The need for a transnational database is evident in that it will help ascertain the significance of the missing children problem.
Fortunately, in 2007 the European Commission declared the telephone number “116000” to be the single telephone number in the EU to make pressing calls about 3missing children. By securing a single hotline number, hopefully the “116000” number will help this lack of communication that can occur between the EU countries.
Despite this effort to create a line of communication across European borders there is still not a child alert system that would create a network to look for children who may have been taken into a different country.
The United States has a number of different laws that focus on this topic exclusively by engaging in actively preventing crimes against children as well as, similar methods to handle situations in which children go missing. With the ease of crossing borders in Europe it becomes apparent that it can be difficult to work with countries that follow different procedures to help children and this creates a complicated setting to recover and protect children efficiently and safely.
Missing Children Europe is one organization that is tirelessly working to improve and enact legislation that will improve the mechanisms to help children across the European Union while simultaneously working to improve the quality and communication of existing means of handling missing children cases.

INTERPOL maintains a database of missing and abducted children on behalf of the member countries.

The only children appearing on this website are those which the respective law enforcement authorities request INTERPOL to circulate on an international basis.Therefore, out of the important number of children who go missing, only a few hundred appear here.

There can be nothing more distressing for a parent than to not know their child has gone missing. It is INTERPOL’s belief, that all actors of the civil society must join forces to ensure that children do not go missing and, if so, that all efforts are put into finding them.

This is why INTERPOL decided to request the public at large to help law enforcement forces in trying to find those internationally reported missing children and dedicated part of our website to the most crucial cases.

I Europaparlamentet har den liberale gruppen (ALDE) fått gjennomslag for visum-fri reise for alle landene i Vest-Balkan. Mot at landene møter visse sikkerhetsbetingelser, åpnes det for at serbere, makedonere og montenegrinere kan reise fritt, uten å måtte søke om visum til alle land innenfor Schengen-området allerede før jul (den 19. desember), mens Bosnia Herzegovina og Albania kan oppnå det sammme før neste Unge Venstre-sommerleir!

For oss som jobber med Balkanprosjektet i Unge Venstre er dette en strålende nyhet, for det vil gjøre vårt arbeid mye enklere. De nye reglene, som vil gjelde for Norge også gjennom EØS, gjør at vi mye enklere kan samle liberale ungdommer fra de ulike landene på Balkan. Dersom Europaparlamentet (EP) finner en løsning for Kosovo også, kan vi få kontakt med liberale der også. Det viktigste vi gjør i Balkanprosjektet er tross alt å spre liberale tanker og skape arenaer for møter mellom de ulike etniske gruppene på Balkan.

Dette er liberal politikk: Grensene bygges ned, flere mennesker får muligheten til å reise og man skaper fred og stabilitet. Unge Venstre tror at når menneskene i dette krigsherjede hjørnet av Europa får muligheten til å bli kjent med hverandre og oppdager hvor like de egentlig er og hvor mange felles interesser de har, vil de kunne legge til side gamle konfliker. Etter krigene på 90-tallet, flyktet mange mennesker fra Balkan til andre land i Europa. Resultatet er at mennesker på Balkan har familie over hele Europa. Dette opplevde jeg da jeg var i Bosnia med Unge Venstres Balkanprosjekt i sommer: Jeg oppdaget at noen hadde vendt tilbake for godt, andre var tilbake for å besøke sitt landet de hadde flyktet fra. Alle jeg snakket med hadde venner, familie eller bekjente et sted i Europa. Hva betyr dette? At Balkan er en del av Europa. At Menneskene der er europeere. EU anerkjenner det og åpner dørene sine.

Samtidig skal vi ikke legge skjul på at EU stenger dørene for mange av de som ønsker å skape en bedre fremtid for seg og sine innenfor Europa. “Festung Europa” har blitt et begrep for de stengte grensene utad. Som liberale ønsker vi at alle skal ha muligheten til å reise fritt. Kanskje kan Schengen i fremtiden realisere denne drømmen og kanskje er EUs utviklingspolitikk en del av løsningen? Uansett vil vi i Unge Venstre være med på å finne løsningen på disse utfordringene.

Unge Venstre applauderer Europaparlamentets besluttning og håper at Rådet vedtar loven. Unge Venstre applauderer også våre venner og politiske kollegaer i ALDE- Alliansen av Liberale og Demokrater i Europa – som åpner grensene sine sørøstover 20 år etter at berlinerne rev ned grensen mellom Øst og Vest.

Many left-behind parents are told that the Hague Convention will bring about the return of their abducted children. Some authorities say that if your child is abducted, you should follow procedures outlined by the Hague, but we don’t agree.

Until 1980, there was no international system in place to help parents recover abducted children who had been taken to other nations. The Hague Convention attempted to create one, but it doesn’t work. If you take the time to read the well-intentioned text of the Hague, you’ll see its many flaws.

In our opinion, it’s not worth the large amounts of money, time and trouble to hire an attorney to try using the Hague Convention to get your child back. You aren’t likely to get him or her back — and even worse, the abducting parent could be “legitimized” by the courts in another nation.

Under the Hague Convention, a case must be filed in the country where the abductor has taken the child. The courts of that country tend to render their decisions in favor of their countrymen, as the Hague Convention focuses on residency, not citizenship. There is little concern for the fact that the child is a citizen of the country from which he or she was abducted, or for the possible detrimental effect on the child.

Even if the child was born in your country, if that child is found to be a “habitual resident” by the courts in another country, the child may be ordered to be returned to that country.

This underscores the need to act quickly.

Few, if any, of the Hague signatory countries are going to send anyone out to physically recover your child for you. Embassy officials will check on the child’s welfare, if it is known where the child is and if the abducting parent lets them.

As soon as abducting parents are aware that that they’ve been located, they’ll usually disappear with the children again.

And about hiring lawyers

You need to be aware that a great amount of money has been spent on lawyers in foreign abduction cases. The unfortunate fact is that they, most often, can’t practice in the foreign courts and are required to hire associate lawyers in the foreign country.

Note: they often have no qualifications or experience working with child abduction cases.

Here are some tips for attorneys and clients faced with instituting or defending child abduction proceedings under the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction, whether in the United States or internationally.

In a nutshell, a Hague Convention application may be made when a child is taken or retained across an international border, away from his or her habitual residence, without the consent of a parent who has rights of custody, if the two countries are parties to the Convention. The child must be promptly returned to the habitual residence unless the return will create a grave risk of harm to the child.

1. ACT FAST

An attorney must be ready to file a Hague Convention application and institute or defend a Hague Convention lawsuit on extremely short notice.

Prompt action may be critical. The Convention specifically requires that hearings be conducted expeditiously. A Hague case can theoretically be instituted more than a year after the abduction but a defense will then arise that the child has become settled in the new environment and, in practice, the longer a child is in a new place the more likely it is that a court will be reluctant to send the child away.

Fast action by the left-behind parent is also necessary to help prevent a claim that the parent has acquiesced in the child’s relocation.

Clients must move quickly to obtain the documents needed to file the initial application and then to collect the documents needed for the hearing. They should normally be asked to prepare a detailed family history and to assist the attorney to develop evidence as rapidly as possible.

In addition to the Hague application and lawsuit itself, counsel for the left-behind parent should take many other steps.

First, counsel should enlist the support of the U.S. State Department’s Office of Children’s Issues. Second, the left-behind parent should institute civil proceedings. If there is no custody order in place from a court in the jurisdiction of the habitual residence, an application should immediately be made for such an order.

Third, counsel should consider putting the abducting parent on immediate written and formal notice of the dire consequences, civil, criminal and financial, that the abduction will cause to that parent personally, and, possibly to others conspiring with the parent. It may be appropriate to provide an extremely short time for the abducting parent to cure the problem by returning the child.

Fourth, the parent should consider requesting the federal and state prosecutors to institute both federal and state criminal proceedings. The federal crime of international parental kidnapping is a felony with a penalty of up to three years in prison. In addition, many states including New York have provisions that also provide criminal penalties for parental child abduction. It will occasionally be possible to seek extradition based on a federal warrant.

2. PREPARE THE FACTUAL PRESENTATION INTENSELY

Hague Convention cases are often extremely fact-intensive. They frequently hinge on the ability of one party to convince the court of matters such as the habitual residence of a child, the extent to which a parent actually exercised custody rights and whether or not a parent consented to or acquiesced in a new residency. For a court to resolve these matters it must analyze the relevant facts.

A successful Hague proceeding requires the attorney, working closely with the client, to marshal as much evidence as possible, in as many forms as possible, to support the client’s position.

Clients are frequently shocked that matters that to them are obvious and indisputable turn out to be disputed and to require them to produce clear and convincing proof. They may well be insulted that their word alone is insufficient to convince the court that they are truthful and that the other parent is lying.

In one case, the parents had moved permanently with their young child from the mother’s native country to the U.S. Two years later, the mother took the child back to her country for a vacation and then refused to return to the States. In supporting her claim that the child was never habitually resident in the States she claimed that the original move to America had been only temporary and that she and the father had agreed that they would return to the mother’s native country after a year or two. The mother had planned the move well in advance and had amassed — and even created — evidence that tended to support her claims. Additionally, she had removed evidence from the parties’ home that would have disproved her claims.

To win the case, we interviewed neighbors, friends, family members, schoolteachers, real estate salespeople, fellow office workers and an array of other people who had had some connection with the family. We checked into any and all areas of the mother’s life for anything that might indicate her intention to stay in the States. We obtained emails, notes, invoices, and other documents. We searched old household bills for evidence of the purchase of items that inferred a degree of permanency. At the hearing, the mother was shocked that her husband had collected so much written evidence to disprove her claims and undercut her credibility. The courts ultimately — and with great reluctance, since they were going against a local national — found in favor of our client.

Since Hague cases are tried quickly, there is usually only one chance to present the case and it needs to be done well at the very outset. An attorney must embark on a quick campaign of collecting mounds of relevant evidence to support the client’s positions, and must expect the other parent to lie, cheat, and distort the facts in a desperate attempt to avoid losing the case.

Just as a current military strategy is to employ overwhelming force to create shock and awe, so too in a Hague Convention case it is often advisable to use overwhelming amounts of evidence to win the case. Such a campaign in a Hague proceeding may yield a capitulation by the other parent even before the hearing actually commences.

Hague Convention hearings sometimes take the form of “he said, she said” disputes in which each side makes verbal accusations against the other. Documentary evidence is usually far better than the mere word of one parent. Thus, if you want to claim that a parent applied for an immigration visa, you must be prepared to do more than simply have the parent tell the court that this was done. You should do whatever you can to get hold of the actual application papers that the parent signed in applying for the visa, which may mean contacting the lawyer who handled the immigration matter originally.

While it is helpful if documents are supported by sworn statements, it is not essential. Both the Convention and the International Child Abduction Remedies Act (“ICARA”) provide that authentication of documents is not required in a Convention proceeding.

3. PREPARE THE LEGAL ARGUMENT INTENSELY

Hague Convention cases raise unusual international law, foreign law and treaty law questions. They involve the courts in matters of a kind that they are usually not used to handling. In many jurisdictions the court may be entirely unfamiliar with Hague cases. Accordingly it is usually essential for the lawyers to help the court to an unusual extent. Certainly a well-reasoned memorandum of law is essential.

The matters in dispute in most Hague cases raise difficult legal issues that must be thoroughly briefed. Thus, the Convention requires the left-behind parent to establish that the child was taken from the “habitual residence” and that the parent had “rights of custody” under the law of that jurisdiction. However, neither of those fundamental terms is defined in the Convention and substantial jurisprudence has grown domestically and internationally setting forth often-contradictory determinations concerning their scope and meaning. Moreover, courts have held that, while they must determine under international law whether the left-behind parent possesses Hague Convention “custody rights,” they must first examine the law of the child’s habitual residence in order to ascertain the extent of the rights that such parent possesses under that law. In this regard, it is often essential to use foreign law experts to establish the existence and scope of such rights.

A Hague Convention attorney may ” and should ” cite cases not only from the domestic jurisdiction but also from other jurisdictions if they support the client’s position. It has become more usual to cite cases from other jurisdictions in this area of the law than perhaps in any other. Courts around the world recognize that it is best to coordinate their decisions with those of other courts internationally and, for that very reason, the Hague Conference on Private International Law has established a database of significant Hague cases from courts around the world.

4. AVOID BEST INTERESTS ANALYSIS

In representing the left-behind parent in a Hague proceeding, it is necessary to keep the court focused on the narrow issues that the Convention requires an applicant to establish and the narrow defenses that a respondent can assert. Whenever the hearing strays into any areas that might be considered as constituting an analysis of the child’s best interests, the applicant should vehemently object.

However, a party opposing a return should do his or her utmost to assert any and all relevant issues under the rubric of one of the defenses specified in the Convention and should be armed with case law to establish that similar claims were permitted in other cases.

5. BE FLEXIBLE CONCERNING EVIDENCE

In Hague cases evidence rules are usually relaxed, so evidence should be submitted in any possible format. Live testimony is invariably the best and normally everything should be done to get the left-behind parent into the courtroom. (An exception is if that parent would be a poor witness and his or her presence would create an opportunity for embarrassing cross-examination). If a witness cannot be brought to the courthouse, consider testimony by video conferencing or otherwise by telephone conference. As a last resort, submit affidavits.

6. USE AN EXPERIENCED ATTORNEY: IF THAT’S NOT YOU, FIND SOMEONE WHO IS

Hague Convention cases happen too fast, and too much is at stake for the client, for an attorney to learn about this area of law at the last minute. It is extremely important to locate counsel with knowledge and experience in Hague proceedings.

Last evening was a slew of breath-taking, mind-blowing talent show hosted by the International Club. It truly was a range of variety. Performances included karaoke, Japanese taiko drumming, hilarious songs written by innovative student songwriters, room-shaking Bollywood dances choreographed by students, bold a-cappella singers, and a series of dances showcasing the Latin, Balkan, French hip-hop, and Japanese cultures. To top it off, the MC’s were just as energetic to kindle the night.

It always frazzles me how often International Coffee House draws in such a diverse crowd. Not only is it an event exclusive to Batesies, but the local community as well. What sets it apart from any other performance of artistic, creative expression here at Bates is that it incorporates and unites students across all different perspectives, backgrounds, and communities to come together to see a melting pot of an interconnected global celebration to unite multiculturalism.

Winged Migration (French: Le Peuple Migrateur, also known as The Travelling Birds in some UK releases, or The Travelling Birds: An adventure in flight in Australia), is a 2001 documentary film directed by Jacques Cluzaud, Michel Debats and Jacques Perrin (who was also one of the writers and narrators) showcasing the immense journeys routinely made by birds during their migrations.

The movie was shot over the course of four years on all seven continents. Shot using in-flight cameras, most of the footage is aerial, and the viewer appears to be flying alongside birds of successive species, especially Canada geese. They traverse every kind of weather and landscape, covering vast distances in a flight for survival.

Much of the aerial footage was taken of “tame” birds. The filmmakers raised birds of several species, including storks and pelicans, from birth. The newborn birds imprinted on staff members, and were trained to fly along with the film crews. The birds were also exposed to the film equipment over the course of their lives to ensure that the birds would react the way the filmmakers want. Several of these species had never been imprinted before. Film was shot from ultralights, paragliders, and hot air balloons, as well as trucks, motorcycles, motorboats, remote-controlled robots, and a French Navy warship. Many critics question if “Winged Migration” is really a documentary at all since there is so much manipulation of the birds and the footage that made it into the final film.

The film states that no special effects were used. On the contrary, while no computer-generated imagery (CGI) was used in the filming of the birds, several entirely-CGI segments augment the real-life footage^.

The film’s soundtrack by Bruno Coulais was recorded by several Bulgarian vocal groups in Bulgarian, as well as Nick Cave in English and Robert Wyatt. The vocal effects include sequences in which panting is superimposed on wingbeats to give the effect that the viewer is a bird.
