I was finally able to catch up on some things from this summer, I have several projects that I’ve just been dying to get to. One of my favorite sessions of the summer was with Crystal, she’s got SO much energy, we spent time in the studio and then went to Grapevine Lake.

We had such a great time, the shots in the water were some of my favorites, it even has a funny story to go with it. You think you have everything packed and in the car and even double check things so that once you get there, there was nothing left out. Well there was this one bag that had all the towels and my swimming suit in it that got left behind…..the girls thought I looked hilarious with my long shorts rolled up as high as they would go, if there were only a picture to go with this post…(I think they were deleted in post on accident).

The one shot of Crystal dashing out of the water was when I mentioned that I had fish nibbling on my legs, I don’t know how people can stand those “Fishy Pedicures”. The shots of the hair ripping out of the water have to be my favorite action shots of the year. All in all we had a really good time.

We had a beautiful day at the Wintermarket. A little chilly at times but when the sun was shiny it was warm enough to even take off my coat. It was a wonderful environment to sell our stuff. Rachel had a TON more for sale than I did. I admit that I’d gone through a period of time that I felt like there was no point to making onsies/hats anymore. But I’ve had a lot of orders lately and after doing Wintermarket I feel re-inspired. I had received an order a month ago for a little girl whose mother was a ballerina. This was a very fun project for me. I got to combine three of my “old” skills with something new. The hat and ball are crocheted. The little girl is painted on with acrylic paint. The leotard ? is appliqued on and then I sewed on a little tutu. So cute and so fun (I hope it holds up in the wash).

Yes, I finally attended my first ballet, the Moscow Ballet’s Nutcracker, to be specific, at the historical and beautiful Orpheum Theatre.

While this view may give you a nose bleed, I was actually a lot closer than this. I could smell the nuts cracking.

And believe it or not, these were my highlights:

I could not stop staring at the men’s defined asses in their tights and especially their protruding penises. And neither could my wife, for that matter. She even pointed out which male ballerina (damn that sounds politically incorrect) had the nicest ass and package.

Every time an actor in a giant elephant or unicorn head popped out on stage, I laughed aloud, generating many evil looks from the audience. But goddamn it, the last thing I expected was a puppet show!

The fucking kid next to me just had to get up and go piss in the middle of the performance. What a small bladder motherfucker! How rude!

I loved the people who showed up in jeans and a T-shirt, like it wasn’t the fucking ballet. This ain’t no high school performance, Billy Jim!

I loved the show! It was a great performance and the actors/ballerinas were amazing! All in all, a great night out!

And now for some pictures:

You can't see me in this picture, but I'm surrounded by a harem of ballerinas.

An explanation for those who do not blog: When someone uses a search term in Google and that search term leads to the blog you write, the terms show up in the blog stats.

I have discovered that there is a particularly large number of people out there searching for high school hallways, or some variation thereof. There are at least two people in the world who want to see Mike Rowe of Discovery Channel’s Dirty Jobs in the shower.

Seventeen people looked for my high school alma mater. That’s not so much funny as interesting. Probably only to me and the few people reading this who actually went there.

Someone searched the name of a person who commented on my blog. I let her know, just in case she has a stalker out there somewhere. I don’t think she does. I hope not. A few people found it searching my name. I wonder who’s looking for me.

And this week, I’ve gotten hits from searches for min pin power, dead ballerina and space ballerina.

Merely a hack who has rarely had the patience to sit through elongated oratory or literary dissertat

Merely a hack who has rarely had the patience to sit through elongated oratory or literary dissertations in my quest to conceptualize and even capture the crux of creation through the language of mathematics and physics, I have found it gravely difficult, during my years of formal education, to await the necessarily standardized absorption by which mundane knowledge is methodically received. Boredom becomes quite captivating and even the most minute segments of data sets are set aside for in depth examination by which to formulate extraordinary principles both simplistic yet paradoxically profound. It seems truth tends to tangle in the arena of paradox (James 1:25).

There ultimately arrived a time by which I had to toss my systematic quest to conquer the principalities of physics to a far more poetically achievable educational genre. I therefore relented from the intensity of such studies into simpler tasks such as English, art and photography. History has likewise served such a capacity but to a lesser extent, since its process is more an abstract yet more tangible life application of the aforementioned principalities, which lends to its own enthusiastic arrangement of frustrations and fascinations. All the while, that which is exhibited within the confines of the Holy Bible has wallowed divinely in my midst throughout such eras, serving as an evermore acknowledged theme by which one in any such endeavor ought to engage with greater consideration, as its power of principalities provides a foundation by which wisdom is exponentially jettisoned to all who earnestly partake. Examine it as hereby stated and the wonders of the universe, whether academic or even spiritual, becoming exceedingly awakened unto your eyes and afforded the confluence of axioms.

Anyhow, I loved science and found great excitement in at least a few of them throughout my junior high and high school years. And later in college, math class, just as science, while it was a love, was likewise a match for my focus. Some facet would always seem to snag my interest in such a way that captivated me, leading me to overthrow the lesson for a gaping reception into the far too fundamentally apparent finiteness of one simplistic element.

Perhaps my greatest issue with the confines of formal education is its formalities of indoctrination, since it teaches merely to know than to learn, and therefore, my zealously fascinating manner of inquisition into easily accepted principalities disrupts well trained technicians of academic dissemination who themselves have very little understanding.

There have been several, perhaps many, instructors who have found my inquiry to be irritating to the point where vehemence erupts from their frustration. Likely, it is that their understanding of such principles bound within their chosen field of study is so light that immersion becomes frightening, to the point by which they attempt to maintain surface tension, yet cannot, for they have yet to achieve perfection.

Anyhow, there have been others who have found my earnest inquiry to be considerably intriguing and have engaged greatly. From them, I have learned much and have been equally challenged to such extents, exponentially jettisoned, just as iron sharpens iron. For when word becomes word, so goes the saber of triumph.

And so there I was. I had failed to turn in several weeks of assignments, stuck and even failing asleep on a series of formulas. While I had figured them is such a learned way, I envisioned yet another way, comparative to the difference of a casual observer who meanders through a garden on his way to his next class and that of a ballerina become the very beauty abound amid her arena. Then, I entered class to turn in homework from several weeks back, and as the class proceeded on several problems the instructor issued to buy him time to grade the evenings homework, he later landed upon mine near the end of class.

Looking up my way in a cross and unsettling manner: “This is late. And what is this (no question mark for it was not a question). This is not done right. This is unacceptable. Did you even read the book.”

I walked up. Observed what I knew to be in question. He continued. I watched. And might I mentioned I was also quite rebellious and had considerable disdain for those are fierce for the letter of the law but who have very little consideration for the spirit of the law. He was quite disrespectful in his way and even authoritarian in his astute posture. For this, I found fancy in foiling his stature.

“Yes. I read the chapter multiple times over.”

He became exacerbated, particularly since I offered no other explanation at anytime during the long pause for silence.

“I can’t have this. I can’t accept this. This is just wrong.”

“No.” I replied. My retort was accurate. It was right.

“No what?”

“The answer is right. Look upon your cheat sheet. It correctly matches what you have there. Therefore, according to your very own means of judgment, your readily accepted and utterly proclaimed sense of right and wrong, it is right.”

“No. It is wrong. You did it all wrong.”

At this point, the diatribe drew upon the attention of the class, which was acutely focused upon the dance of an arrogant subset of individuals. I stood. The instructor sat half in his seat, while the other half worked to rise in frustration, except for the tactical advantage of an underling who literally stood above him. To escape the sunken seat of the throne at that very moment would have only worked to his disadvantage, divulging the inferiority of his physical position, as a rabbit who uneasily waits behind the bushes as a hunter passes, hoping he who seeks blood has no clue of the thinly veiled vulnerability that resides easily within reach.

“If you are now saying the answer is wrong, then your theorem is likewise wrong, for it renders the same result. But if you are saying that my methodology is wrong, then you are wrong, for it renders the very same result as does your readily accepted methodology, yet you are unwilling to accept it, since you fear what you fail to consider.”

Just then, during the prelude to the climax, the clock struck the hour and officially called to a close the class, but even still, the encore was yet to unfold, and therefor kept at bay the bulk of the class.

Now, being that I in certain terms had just turned over the desk from which he dictated, the repercussion was on the verge of volleying grave result. Therefore, an intersession accompanied by a well-announced olive branch was boastfully interjected in such a way that the Little Hero Of Holland held at bay a great mass of water with merely a finger. And likewise amid the moment, the class teetered upon the crux of implosion.

“Okay. If you find that the methodology does not work according to the stated result, which equals that stated in the book, then, you may rightfully fail me for the remainder of the class. But should the methodology work out correctly, according to the result so stated, then it will be graded as such.”

Going merely by the memory of some 15 years ago, I recall him officially calling the class to a close by dismissing us.

The next class, as he was handing back papers, perhaps during a test, he quietly called my name to receive my graded paper.

“I don’t know how you did it. I have never seen this before. I even brought it to the attention of the department faculty. It seems you have found a new theorem. Good work.”

I walked away and left it at that. My grade for the class was somewhere around a C- for that class. I don’t blame the guy. Between my frequent surfing trips to Baja and inconsistent homework, even a C- may have been undeserved.

Perhaps one day I will share just how daunting the study of literature and moreover writing courses were and how one college professor struck a sword through such difficulties, severing my ties with such trying tasks by delivering me unto understanding, as is referenced in 1 Peter 4:8 (NIV), where is said: “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.”

Dear Taylor (whoops sorry wrong blog) Thanksgiving has come and gone…I had no turkey, did not

Dear Taylor (whoops sorry wrong blog)

Thanksgiving has come and gone…I had no turkey, did not see a parade, nor did I have pie…pumpkin or otherwise…Cause NZ kinda blows like that…but for the past few days I’ve been reading letters over on LTT about what people are thankful for and some over-enthusiastic classical dancer decided that she in fact is the only Tay-gay in the village and composed an EPIC list in Tay’s honour…yes she mentions the abs, his parent’s sex life (yeah that’ll def make him want you) and his “healthy-ness” (dont worry child…he’s got a long way before he catches up with Daddy Lautner…and not if I have something to say about it)

So I decided (cause now I’m def the only Tay Gay in the village after the dancer was run over by a Cullen or La Pushed off a cliff by a Jorted-one) that I would make a list of what Taylor would be thankful for…(cause speaking for him really turns him on…)

*He’s thankful for photo-shopped abs…as long as it’s some Brazilian model being expoited…he’s ok with that…

Eeeep!
*He’s thankful for Big Daddy…that should keep a few health freaks away…

*He’s thankful for TaylorSwift… cause they’re BFF’s and she’s on the Illegalautner band wagon…

…why I don’t delete things off my hard drive (hardly ever).

I know, it is something that I need to work on, but I have a really hard time deleting even the most ‘blurry’, ‘blinking’, or ‘hard-to-distinguish-what-it-even-is’ photos…most of the time, they are in fact, just taking up space. And I even had the grand idea of just going into Lightroom, selecting every image that has never seen a flag, star, or color code in its little existence, and pressing the delete key – and I’m not talking about the “remove from Lightroom” option.

But while I was in search for a particular food image on my hard drive, hoping that maybe just maybe I was crafty enough to include it on my travel drive, I came across an image I had never given a second glance…

(the one on the left)

It was one of the very first images taken during the photo shoot (isn’t that always the way?), so I’m sure I just dismissed it as a test shot.

But seeing it now, it really got me inspired.

So I went through a few more of the images, to see what else I’d been missing.

Now, you’re probably wondering – wait, what’s with the ballerina?!…

Yeah, I know – “Stick with food Charity”…this was a shoot I did years ago, back in school, in fact.

Pictured is Trista Kite, a (retired) ballerina – now dance instructor in the Seattle area.

Here are a two that made the cut, even during the first round of editing, still favorites of mine.

Why I had these images on my travel drive and not the food image I was searching for, I don’t know…just fate, I guess.

She was crushed to death on Black Friday.
First in line at the local Wal-Mart
she arrived at 2 am.
The crowd filled in behind her
got more antsy as the hours passed,
the temperature started to dip,
on a day approaching winter
more than Indian Summer.

Though the store was scheduled to open early at 5:30 am
packed like sardines
people started to push around 4:30.
At first just irritating -
then disconcerting -
finally the jostling morphed into joustling,
became a real concern.

Disoriented she tried to hold her ground
the back of her thighs ached, tightened
from being pushed to the tips of her toes
like a ballerina, which she wasn’t.
A rope divider in front of her
like the red carpet at the Oscars
cordoning off the line
to leave enough space so the store
could actually open the doors when the hour came.

About 4:55
pushed up a few inches at a time
she tried to yell for people to ease off
no one could hear -
except for the few in the same predicament, directly behind her -
the deafness of impending catastrophe.

The crowd acting as if in Times Square at New Years,
started a countdown to the opening hour.

By 5:25 no more than a few inches from the glass
she started to rap, with her purse.

She had no idea that her own death was imminent
it was not in the sales flyer -
although not prone,
fear spread through her veins
as if she lay flat over the pit with the pendulum’s blade
moving closer and closer to her chest.

When the blue coated attendants appeared
on the other side of the plate glass
the crowd surged.
Slapped against the pane
the way she had once slapped a rude patron in a bar,
crushed against the door
as if in a giant human vice,
she attempted one last futile call
just before she lost all breath.
Diaphragm and lungs flatted like a pancake.

Few of her Wal-Mart “shopping colleagues”
ever noticed her predicament
too busy reading the sales signs
or the coupons they held in their hands like prayer cards.

When they straightened out the hysteria,
- a story in and of itself -
her lifeless body slumped to the sidewalk.

Sobbing, crying, screaming hysterically
a 17 year old high school senior
working part time
saw the whole thing from the lobby of the store
inches away, separated from death by plate glass
watching Black Death’s work
as one would watch Piranha in an aquarium
eat the others.
Observed life’s form, as it left the shopper,
fog the outside of the door pane glass.

Later she would be haunted by the likeness
left in last breath’s steam on the panel
like’s Christ’s face on Veronica’s veil
this poor soul, human sacrifice to a strange god
which required attendance at the Churches of Commerce
on the Friday after Thanksgiving.

What was bred from us
that this crowd could continue on its way
walk right over the body
as they would walk past a homeless man
curled in a sleeping blanket on the street
on the sidewalk in New York?

To be only 17
stand helpless
in the face of another’s death.

Who can comprehend
why this should be -
why it came to pass -
crushed to death by her own people
on a day aptly named – Black Friday.
