FR3SH WINTER INTENSIVE + AUDITIONS

FR3SH Dance Company is offering a WINTER INTENSIVE (precursor to their SUMMER INTENSIVE series) this January 16 and 17 of the new 2010 year. This intensive dance workshop boasts a diverse group of collabos and choreographers ranging from FR3SH’s ABDC family (Mikey and Leslie), FR3SH’s FreeStyle Crew (Darvi and Karlo), Fr3sh’s Dance Co. (Keith, Bo, and Lisa), as well as guest Choreographers from the Mooks, Balls to the Wall, Rhythmology, E.P.I.C. Motion, and Project D!

*Note: If you are planning on doing the Main Event Performance Intensive, class 1 on January 17th taught by Lisa Ramirez of FR3SH Dance Co. is highly necessary for placement!

THE MAIN EVENT PERFORMANCE INTENSIVE: JANUARY – APRIL 2010
An 11-week program which gives Beginner and Intermediate level dancers the opportunity to experience FR3SH “DANCE LIFE” first-hand. The program, led by the Co-Artistic Directors of FR3SH Dance Company and FR3SH Juniors, will challenge dancers to learn choreography, staging and performance. Dancers will be exposed to a variety of styles, trained by amazing choreographers, and meet talented dancers from the East and West Coast dance community. The Main Event Dance Intensive concludes with an opportunity to perform at The Main Event Hip-Hop Dance Competition on Saturday, April 10, 2010.

This Saturday, January 2 is gonna be a crazy post-new year’s weekend.

Project D will be hosting its First Of The Month Community Class. Each first class of the month will feature a LOCAL community dancer, allowing area dancers to get to know their community better. The first class will be taught by Keith Ocampo (Fr3sh, BTW) from 2:00-3:00 PM @ Step By Step. Check the details:

Faptul ca se vrea indobitocirea in masa nu este un lucru nou, nici nu este un lucru chiar asa de ascuns, deja se practica pe fata, dar sa fim tratati in ultimul hal de catre cei ce ne conduc este inadmisibil, nu sunt eu cel care este in masura de a decide daca asta este ceva nou sau daca se practica de cand lumea, dar pot sa spun ca nu este un lucru corect si normal, mai ales ca in ziua de azi sunt deosebit de multe mijloace care ne pot influenta, de exemplu internet, radio, TV…

Eran las 2 de la tarde del sábado 5 de mayo del 2007 y con boleto en mano llegaba a la Arena Monterrey para presenciar el Mägo de Oz Fest. Una especie de festival donde, además de Mägo de Oz, se presentarían las bandas (en estricto orden de aparición) Cage, Maligno (de Monterrey), WarCry, UDO y por supuesto Mägo de Oz, a quien iba yo a ver.

De WarCry tenía idea de quienes eran pero no me gustaban, de Cage, Maligno y UDO no sabía siquiera que existían.

Actuaron las primeras 3 bandas y llegó el momento de UDO,” ¿quién carajos son esos?”, me preguntaba yo; y antes de que otra cosa sucediera, el presentador, quien no dejaba de nombrar esa canción de “Las bolas hacia la pared”, por fin los anunció. Tocaron sus primeras 5 y al final hicieron Metalheart y Balls to the wall.

Acabando el show (con una desastrosa actuación de Mägo de Oz) no me pude sacar de la cabeza que WarCry y UDO se habían llevado el minifestival. Al cabo de unos días me dediqué a buscar un poco más de UDO, encontrando así que UDO era Udo Dirkschneider, vocalista de la banda, quien hace más de 20 años atrás había formado Accept, una de los grupos emblema del heavy metal.

Hoy, 2 años después, escucho a Accept -sin llegar a ser gran fan- y Metalheart es una de las mejores canciones de Heavy Metal que jamás he escuchado.

Out on the West Coast, another important dance event played out this past Saturday: Body Rock. Started as Bustagroove 10 years ago, Body Rock has become one of California’s iconic events. PDStyle’s Myron Merced & Ken Estrellas caught up with Fr3sh alumni Kristina Latonio (SGBM) & Karlo Soria (PAC Modern), & frequent East Coast visitor Brian Puspos (SoReal Cru) after the event to get their opinions, shoutouts, and reflect on good times here on the East Coast. Good move…much safer than whores. I think.

He says T.E.A. stands for “Taxed Enough Already”…wink, wink. Somehow it traces back to Obama being born in the darkest of blackest Africa.

He even wants teabagging to become law! Now that’s a conviction he can live with!

imho there are 3 universal connectors: sex, science and music. sex keeps us going and makes us feel good. science is the proof of knowledge. music … well, music brings it all home.

i remember the first bit of music i ever bought (drum roll please) — it was an 8-track tape by donnie osmond. shut your pie hole and stop laughing! i saved up my minuscule allowance to buy a player and that tape and swooned as i listened to “puppy love.” over the years, thankfully, my musical tastes have grown and developed, and i now listen to a wide variety of genres. donnie, now and forever, holds a special place in my heart …

the “stop, drop, rock ‘n roll” category on this blog thingy is where i’ll showcase a favorite song and its accompanying video. first up on the docket is “break stuff” (explicit version) by limp bizkit. i bet you didn’t know 43yo cougar’s even knew about the bizkit. i surely do and this 2:45m ditty is my rage song. when i’m balls to the wall pissed off, when i have to expel the hate and rage i’m feeling, i go to this song and it never fails me. imagine yours truly at the poker table, in the midst of a big pot with my ipod blaring this song through my ears and exciting my brain. i am …. unstoppable. “break stuff” is a song the mr. doesn’t understand, and i don’t care. it’s for me, it’s my go-to, it’s my 11.

My friends Kelsey, Sarah and I were talking today about the phrase “balls to the wall.” As Kelsey aptly put it, in what situation would anyone ever put their balls to the wall? Anyone know the origin of this nice little phrase? Help us out and post your insight.

UPDATE: Reader Mike has an answer for us:

The term “balls to the wall” is an old truckers term (there is a difference between a truck driver and a trucker) While on a “Hot” load (needed yesterday) the driver would be up driving all night, which us really tiring and they have to open their eyes real wide and have their (eye) balls to the wall (windshield) all night.
