A lot has been made about the weather making it more difficult for golf courses to open up, but the past few days the sun has been out and the snow has continued to melt. While people wait for more courses to open, the Pine Ridge driving range has been packed with golfers from all over Baltimore.

When I went yesterday, I knew I wasn’t the only one who wanted to get outside in the warm weather. So as I drive to Pine Ridge and anticipated a crowd, I was pretty surprised by the amount of people there. Every tee was filled, and people were sitting around on the benches waiting to get a spot.

“I expected a lot of people here, and honestly with the weather being this nice, it’s worth the wait,” said Daniel Ersley, a 23-year-old Baltimore native who was waiting with me at the range. “I think we’re all waiting for the courses to be open and get back out there. But while I’m waiting, this is the best driving range to come to, so here I am.”

Now as I wrote about before, there are courses open throughout the area. From the people I talked to today, most people are just waiting for Pine Ridge because they have their players card for that course, or simply because it’s there favorite place to play. Either way, Baltimore golfers are anxious for the spring season.

In the mean time, the wait at Pine Ridge was only about 10 minutes, For how crowded it was, it’s really not that bad and you shouldn’t expect anything longer than that. The bonus is that it’s a full driving range, so you can bring the driver out.

They serve buckets until 6:30 p.m. and really provide good service. If you want to get ready for the next tee time, it’s a great place to go.

It’s part of the BMGC, and as Tom Pierce, the Director of Marketing, told me last week, “is going to get plenty of business in the next couple weeks.”
