After writing a post on Natib Qadish, a modern revival of Canaanite religion in the United States, I received some comments from Lilinah of Qadash Kinahnu, another modern Canaanite religion revival. These movements are a fascinating development in an overly technological era — both movements have online resources that include serious scholarly treatment of ancient religions of the Levant. Both appear to be sincere attempts to get in touch with what modern religions seem to have lost. Both have heard the call of Balu.

In a society where universities seldom offer programs to study the Ancient Near East, people are starved to know about it. I realize that the field of study will never bring in the money that the sciences or finance do, but obviously there is something deeply satisfying about it. And students are hungry for it. Not only appreciated by those who start revivals of ancient religions, many of those who read more recent popular treatments are intrigued. Neil Gaiman’s American Gods was a New York Times bestseller. Although much belatedly, H. P. Lovecraft’s Cthulhu Mythos has become a paradigm for many undergraduates I’ve met. I was reminded of this as I watched Stuart Gordon’s 2001 movie entitled Dagon. A relentlessly tense and macabre film, the Lovecraftian base assures a constant draw for those who hear the call of the ancient deities.

We love technology. I’m posting this entry on an internet where ideas are simply electrons forced into recognizable patterns. We can’t imagine what life was like before being able to communicate with people just about anywhere in the world instantaneously, and where we can live our entire lives without ever actually touching physical money. Over all the noise of technological progress, however, can be heard the distinct call of Balu — a call to a simpler era, pre-Christian, pre-Judaism, pre-Iron Age. It was an era when human destiny fell into the hands of ancient gods.

It is very true that light without darkness or happiness without occasional sorrow cannot be appreciated much. Also, the worthiness or value of any object or person can be perceived well only when it is compared with something or someone else. It sometimes happens that we don’t appreciate a trait or talent in any person if there is not much scope for comparison.

The same thing happened to me about the singing talent of S.P. Balu and Chitra. If anyone of you remember, some 15 years ago or more (definitely well before the Rahman’s entry), most of the songs in most of the films were sung by this duo. There used to be little variety. I used to wonder why these guys monopolized telugu film music! Apparently, I took their talent for granted and refused to believe that they have far superior talent than most. But not these days, after listening to so many new singers. I don’t mean to say that others aren’t talented enough, but definitely Balu and Chitra outshine most of the present singers.

It is obvious in some cases like the beautiful song in Tulasi movie, “Nee Kalla thoti” which was sang by Chitra and Sagar. The difference between the singing can be easily perceived. Whenever I listen to that song, I feel that Sagar has spoiled it. He doesn’t deserve to sing with Chitra. However much, I love that song and Chitra’s singing in it, I fail to enjoy the track completely because of him.

Also by Chitra is the most recent one in Kalavaramaaye Madilo, wow… she was awesome:

And there is a song in Athadu movie – “Neetho cheppana” sang by Balu and Chitra. In my opinion, it’s not by far the best track of the album, but I’m convinced that the singers made it very special (at least to me). Every time I listen to it, I can’t help making a tribute to both of them. I like to believe that the only reason I like to listen to that song is its singers. I’m not exaggerating when I say that the sweetness of their voices in this song melts my heart.

Ja genau, so heißt der Bär aus dem Dschungelbuch. Aber um den geht es hier nicht; sondern um Balu – die Tauschbörse für Bücher, Filme, Hörbücher, Musik, Games & Software.

Wie die Oma-Mama jetzt auf  Balu kommt? Ganz einfach: Beim Schreiben des Berichtes über das Gewinnspiel von Swapy fiel es der Oma-Mama plötzlich wieder ein, das sie sich damals doch gleich bei der Eröffnung dieser Plattform angemeldet hatte, da sie die Idee extrem gut fand. Doch irgendwie kam das alles nicht so richtig zum Laufen und geriet in Vergessenheit. Bis vor 3 Tagen …

Da loggte sich die Felllose in ihren Balu-Account, entdeckte, daß sie mittlerweile für ihre Treue Chips (die Wärung von Balu) bekommen hatte und wandelte diese kurzerhand in Krimis von Mary Higgins Clark um. Und heute kam bereits das letzte der ertauschten Bücher, die übrigens alle in einem Top-Zustand sind.

Und da auch die Oma-Mama einige Bücher-”Leichen” in ihrem Schrank hat (der sowieso aus allen Nähten platzt), wird sie jetzt die ungemütliche Jahreszeit nutzen, den Bücherschrank ausmisten und Bücher, die hier niemand liest, zum Tausch frei geben – und sich dafür andere kleine Lesewünsche erfüllen.

Haben Sie auch solche Bücher bei sich irgendwo rumliegen, die verstauben und die keiner liest? Ja? Dann machen Sie es doch wie die Oma-Mama – tauschen Sie diese gegen Bücher, die voll Ihren Geschmack treffen.

He was the one who used to sing Ganapathi slokam in every annual day function (Now Rambabu’s lover Dhanalakshmi, our junior, my room owner’s daughter, is singing for the same functions. That was another story). “Neeyayya, nee kosamaa vachhedi? Godava cheyyaku bey. Padukonee”, and slipped into my nap. “Krishna Vamsi…” Involuntarily I opened my eyes wide. “…session koodaa undata studios lo. Chandamama movie scene Sarathi movies lo ne ata…” I woke up all at sudden and looked at Verma’s photo pasted to the wall. My alarm piece hours hand was pointing 3. The minutes hand was in between 9 and 10. It never moves. Only hours hand works in my alarm piece! The time could be anything between 3 and 4. That would not make any difference as I did not have any urgent work other than collecting BHOOT movie CDs from my friend.

Prasad called me for dinner. In Venkateswara mess, we both joined Jagadeesh, Rambabu and Nag, Jagadeesh was explaining AJAX class that they had in the morning in Naresh Technologies. Nag suddenly stopped the conversation and asked about my interview that I had the next day. Jagadeesh looked at me dubiously. I told Nag that I was so confident in C and UNIX. Rambabu winked at Jagadeesh. Jagadeesh gave 3 pats on my back. The 3 pats knocked the door to my past – tak, tak, tak and I remembered the day, my Microprocessor simulator got award from NIT Warangal and my class mates were clapping in the class. Suddenly lunch box fell down. I thought it was Neeharika’s’s. She daily used to bring lunch box, But she was still smiling at me! The lunch box noise welcomed me into the present like a door bell; I saw Krishna Murthy bending down for lunch box, went to sink to wash them. We finished dinner and went to bed!

Moon was was playing hide and seek with me! He was hiding himself behind the coulds! I looked at my alarm piece. The hours hand was showing 10, but the minutes hand was in between 9 and 10 only. Now also, it would not make any difference as I had interview the next afternoon 12 O’ Clock.

“Chandu… please raa…Balu gaari autograph teesukoraa. Program 9 ki start outundata. Naaku ade time ki class undi.”

“Ledu raa… naaku interview undi. Kudaradu”

“Krishna Vamsi session koodaa undi kadara. Vaadini choodachhu. Neeku telusu kadaa… vaadu Ram Gopal Varma ‘Sishyudu’.”

Much to my surprise, my lips were trembled and smiled and I heard some words … “Sare … testaa le. Paduko. Good night”

“Testaa le kaadu raa… testaa anu”

“Okay promise. Testaa. Paduko bey.”

I switched off light.

I could feel Jagadeesh was very happy. I told my self again, “Okay promise. Testaa.”

One big truck passed by my room, and head lights light rushed into my room moving across from right to left, looked like a light house! In that light I saw Krishna Vamsi on the wall but not Ram Gopal Varma! Yes! Light House! It shows way for missed sailors in sea to reach the shore. I looked myself as a sailor missed in sea of life fishing for jobs. I decided to meet Krishna Vamsi and to share my interest in Screenwriting and Movie Direction. I was looking deep into the ceiling. Ceiling turned into ‘Vendi thera’. GULABI movie started! My eyes were projectors! Titles were rolling. A Ram Gopal Varma production! My mind clapped! Scenes were running. Running. Projectors were shut down, my moments were abducted by sleep when Maheswari was ‘kidnapped’ by Jeeva with the help of Brahmaji! I slid into sleep.

Horn honked loudly. One car entered Sarathi Studios. People rushed! including me! Guards were scolding us in Telanga language. Some people wearing laalchi, paijama and with kumkum on their foreheads, looking like a Carnatic music singers. Some are with sharp and hungry-for-sleep eyes, rough beard, some papers in their hands. S.P.Balu sir came out of the car. Suddenly the guys holding papers ceased to stop! I didn’t know that I also stopped. That was involuntary action. But the guys with kumkum kept on running. I understood the scene. They were wannabe singers. Then Jagadeesh slapped me! No.. he must be in the class but who slapped me! My left cheek was paining! Without my intention my legs were pulled towards Balu sir. Then I remembered that I had to get autograph for Jagadeesh. Love towards our friends – feelings also could slap. Power of promise! I was also shouting besides the lalchi-paijama guys! But I am distinct. I told already! They were all shouting … “Okka chance sir… Oke okka chance sir…” But me… “Okka autograph sir… Oke okka autograph sir…” Balu sir pointed at me and called. Everyone got surprised. They thought I must have come by stepping on Fox tail. J They stopped shouting and were looking angrily at me; three guys started leaving the mob already. I gave Jagadeesh’s autograph book. Balu sir just whirled the pages. He saw some names with autographs… Shanmukha Sharma, Yesu Dasam, Naseema Begum etc. etc. Balu sir asked me “who are these, Is it Yesudas or Yesu Dasam?” I told…with 1000 candle smile, “Yesu Dasam sir! They are great singers in our college and our seniors!” Balu sir gave a pleasant lively smile giving autograph and wrote his usual words “God Bless You” and asked me to convey his best wishes to my seniors. I was returning back again involuntarily to the rough beard guys group. My mind just followed my legs. Again the kumkum batch started shouting “Oke okka chance sir…” On hearing the shouting, the guys who were leaving ran back shouting very loudly to overcome the group voice… “Saaarrr…Oke okka chance!” I joined the beard group. They were holding papers. I was holding my interview papers. In that cover I kept autograph book! I asked one guy for time. He did not have watch. In fact, he could not afford for that! They were looking very pale! I asked security for time, he told “Padi…”. I thought … “Exact ga padi elaa ayyindi?” He continued, “padi iravai” Then I though minutes hand was working.

“Saarostundru! Saarostrundru!” I ran first with my interview papers. The beard guys followed me! Surprise! I was not distinct then! We all were shouting same … “Okka chance sir… okka chance sir…” Interview papers left me back! Yes they left me! I went back for them and I kept it on the bricks set by the side of that big neem tree. I felt like I was running back in the race! Felt like missing the opportunity. I ran. I jumped. I pushed. Then we were pushed by the Guards.

I was shouting “Sir… Sir…” One was shouting “jarugu… aey jarugu… Naa papers… naa papers…” They were torn by the feet of rushing people. I took some papers to give them to him, my eyes could quickly grasp some words.. ‘Scene-32’, ‘Cut’, ‘Uday Kiran’, ‘Camera-low-profile’ and “aasa… manishini pichhi vaadini chestundi.’, ‘Jeevitam ante interaa… parledu le. Lite teesko!’ That last two lines stuck deeply into my mind. I realized they were stories written by them, scenes written by them. That guy was rushing for them as if they were his kids! Yes his kids! He gave birth to them, right? I gave him his papers. He told thanks with full heart and told they were ‘climax’ scenes. His hands were severely pressed under the torn chappal of the budding directors! But it was not climax, he started running to Krishna Vamsi shouting “Okka chance sir…” Then, some one whispered in my ears … “aasa… manishini pichhi vaadini chestundi…”

I fell into deep intellections, walking slowly … and telling myself that they were ready with scenes, screenplay, direction sequence. I was not ready with anything. What would I narrate to Krishna Vamsi. I determined to work on that! Was still walking slowly. I dashed a guard! Realized that I had to attend interview! I asked him for time. He told 11:40. I rushed back to the bricks! I could not find my interview papers. I lost the cover! I lost my nerve!

I heard thunder sounds in sky! It much frightened me! I got goosebumps! My legs were becoming numb! I could not hear anything! I looked around! Krishna Vamsi was busy narrating scene to Navdeep and Balaji! The beard guys were walking back slowly! Only directors’ group and I were walking there! Realized I was walking very ‘far’ from them. I was looking deeply into the ground! I realized what I lost! Not the interview! Not the opportunity to talk to Krishna Vamsi! But my promise to Jagadeesh!

I could not hear anything still! Sky started raining… reminding me that I should shed into tears for my missed promise! I was about into tears! I cried! My tears were falling along with rain drops on the ground! I expressed my sorry to Jagadeesh thinking that he could feel, by nodding my head left to right! Right to left! Someone whispered soothingly in my ears, “Jeevitam ante interaa…parledu le. Lite teesko.” I though it was that director! No! No! It was Jagadeesh! It was Jagadeesh’s voice! I lifted my face into the rain. The rain carried off my tears! I was very happy! I was walking to room in the rain looking up with empty hands stretched out showing my palms to the sky. Balu sir’s blessings followed me!

da venerdì scorso, siamo tornati tutti da me (tutti tranne Gilda!). Daniela e i bambini aiutano alla gestione dei cuccioli mentre io sono al lavoro, Tik ha costruito un recinto in terrazza e stanno lì dentro:

Nuvvostanante Nenodhantana was released in 2005 for Sankranthi. This film was released with Pawan Kalyan’s Balu and Jr. N.T.R’s Naa Alludu. Hero Sidharth just known to the audience. Trisha was in controversies. All the people waited for Balu…..ABCDEFG and Naa Alludu.

Among them Naa Alludu became an utter flop movie and Balu received good talk but lack of Pawan Kalyan style energetic scenes turned to an above average movie. After these two movies M.S. Raju released Nuvvostanante Nenodhantana.
