Seorang ibu yang baru melahirkan anak keempatnya 2 minggu lalu terpaksa digulung. Pasalnya, dia nekat menjadi bandar narkoba. Pelaku, Iva Hikmah (36) warga Petukangan.

Ia mendapatkan keuntungan Rp 300 ribu pergram.

Went to Bandar with the wife today. I won’t tell you readers about the boring stuff. But what I do w

Went to Bandar with the wife today. I won’t tell you readers about the boring stuff. But what I do want to share is a story about a particular incident that happened when we went shopping at a popular shopping complex in Bandar.

I bought some adidas soccer socks, paid the full amount at the counter and went down using the lifts. Met with the wife at the ground floor and we were walking to the escalators when we heard an alarm when we went past the security booth. A security came and asked me for my bag. He held it past the security booth and nothing happened. Then he asked for the wife’s bag and again nothing happened. No sound, no lights, nothing. He apologized, gave us our bags back and we calmly strolled past the booth again and went on our way.

One question springs to mind. What the hell happened? Let me tell you what happened. Went I arrived home, took out the socks from my bag since I wanted to try it before getting it washed. And then… Lo and behold! This is what I saw.

.The red circle is there for a reason.

I mean, what on earth? That’s why the alarm went off. But why didn’t it go off the second time? Why did it go off downstairs but not near the elevators? What do I do now? Do I need to give it back? How can I use the socks now?

I remember paying for the two socks. One was $5.++ and the other $7.++. I distinctively remember giving the cashier $15 and got some cash back. I also remember hearing the sound of their machine taking off the first one from my socks.

After serious deliberation and consulting with the wife, in the end I decided not to give it back and tried to take the thing off. Two screwdrivers, 15 minutes and one throw to the wall later and I finally got it off. I was curious to see the insides of the thing and how it works.

.The security thingamajig – broken into pieces.

If there’s one thing that I learnt from this experience, it this: Next time use pliers! ES7

Radical Islam: the critical decade (1977-1989); (October 11, 2009) Sadate of Egypt vis

Radical Islam: the critical decade (1977-1989); (October 11, 2009)

            Sadate of Egypt visited Jerusalem in 1977 and spoke at the Knesset and sighed a peace treaty with Israel. The Arab and Islamic world is angry. The Arab League rejected Egypt as member for ten years. The Moslem Brotherhood movement in Egypt stopped cooperating with Sadate and an extremist faction proclaimed “Takfir wa Hejrat” which means repentance and refuge from the urban centers and isolation into communities for the Moslems abiding by the Charia.

            The religious dogma of Sayyed Qotb whom Nasser had hanged in 1966 resurfaced with acute power. Qotb was studying in the USA and returned to preach that Islam has been weakened because it has forgotten the notion of “Jihad” and is cooperating with the infidels the “monafikeen” or hypocrites whom the Prophet Muhammad lambasted for being ready to rally with the Jews or to returning to “Jahiliya”; thus, Qotb encouraged Jihad against the Moslems consorting with the policies and traditions of the infidels.

            A retired Palace Guard in Saudi Arabia, Juhaiman Otaibi, got wind of the message of “Takfir wa Hejra” and started Friday preaches in that vein: He warned the Moslems that 1979 is the 15th century of the Moslem Hijra and that the most awaited Mahdi is coming to unite Islam. A Yemenite from Assir, Abdallah Kahtani, who broke up from his master Ben Baz (still the formal actual cleric to the Saudi Kingdom), became the theologian for Otaibi. The Egyptian Muhammad Elyas joined forces and the recruits of these three leaders invaded Al Kaaba in the autumn of 1979 and captured it. The Saudi monarch paid the French paratroopers to retaking Al Kaaba; hundreds were massacred in that fight.

            The “Royal Family” in Saudi Arabia got the message clear and loud; Saudi Arabia was slightly inching from the Dark Ages before it re-sank even further in the darkest of ages. The two monarchs Khaled and Fahd were staunch Wahhabits and hated the Chiaa sect. The minister of the Defense was Sultan and his cadet brother Nayef was the minister of the Interior, and their half-brother Bandar from a Sudanese mother was the eternal Ambassador to the USA. This trio had vast contacts with Sunni radical Islamic Pakistan, Iraq of Saddam Hussein, and they financed the El Qaeda; they even asked the US to dismantle their bases in Saudi Arabia in order to keep the face of radical Moslems toward the widespread feeling in the Arab and Islamic World. It is to be understood that the Saudi sovereign fund is practically cash money for the US Administrations to use when the US Senate denies any funds to the Executive branch.

            In 1977, the Islamic forces in Iran were virulent and sympathized with the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood movement. The US, France, and Britain permitted the overseas Iranian parties against the Chah to organize and demonstrate: these three States wanted to put the squeeze on the overbearing Chah of Iran because he was leading OPEC and had increased oil prices 160% within a couple of years. I recall that during my study in Oklahoma the Iranian parties kept constant demonstrations and gathering all of 1977 until Khomeini came to power in 1979. There were the Khomeini movement, the Islamic Moujahedeen Khalq, and the secular communist leaning Fedayeen Khalq. What the Western powers started as a simple squeeze ended up in catastrophe: The Chah decided that the game is over and didn’t even put up a fight before the superpowers planned a counter-attack.

            In 1979, Iran of Khomeini, Syria of Hafez Assad, and President Bakr of Iraq decided on a rapprochement of Islam (Sunni and Chiaa). Saddam Hussein was chief of security and Vice President of Bakr; Saddam hated the Chiaa and also Hafez Assad. At the instigation of Saudi Arabia and the green light from the USA Saddam deposed Bakr and swiftly executed all the Iraqi Baath members who supported this entente; these prominent members of the Iraqi Baath were mostly Chiaa. Thus, Saddam and the Saudi monarchs joined forces to destabilize Iran of Khomeini.

            President Sadade was becoming a dead weight for the USA Administration; the Vice-President Housni Moubarak received the green light from the US to cooperate with the Moslem Brotherhood to eliminate Sadate. Lieutenant Islambouli, brother of Muhammad Elyas who invaded the Kaaba, shot dead Sadate during the yearly military parade. Moubarak pleased the Moslem Brotherhood for a year and tightened the application of Charia and froze the peace treaty for a short while.

            The Saudi Monarchs financed and instigated Saddam to invade Iran in 1980. The US disturbed the electronics of a plane carrying the entire Iranian chief of staff inspecting the Khuzestan which crashed with no survivors. After a swift advance in Khuzestan the Iraqi troops were halted, defeated, and then retreated into Iraq by 1982. During that war Iraq received all the military logistic, support, and aerial intelligence from the USA, France, and Britain. France sold Saddam a nuclear reactor that Israel would bomb in 1983. The US supplied Saddam with bacteriological and chemical arms of mass destruction. Iran wanted the war to continue in order to re-structure its political system and thus this insane war lasted till 1989 before Khomeini died. The leaders of the strong Iranian movement for entente between Sunni and Chiaa were blown up during a convention; among the dead was Ayatollah Montazeri. Rafsanjani, later to become President of Iran, hated the Sunni sect and made sure to arrive 15 minutes late to the convention: he was the right hand man of Khomeini at the time.

            With the Chah out the Soviet Union was encouraged and then sucked in militarily into Afghanistan; the same process as the US was gradually sucked in Viet Nam. Iran of Khomeini arranged a deal with the Soviet not to interfere in the North and West of Afghanistan with Chiaa majority. Saudi Arabia recruited radical Moslem Sunnis from around the world to fight communist Soviet Union; Pakistan was the State to supply arms, logistics, and training to the Moslem “mujahideen”.

            As the Soviet Union was disintegrating in 1991, the US and Europe were busy with a new world order and intentionally forgot radical Islam for an entire decade. Radical Islam got under way in organization and proliferation and performed many operational activities in Indonesia, Somalia, Tanzania, Kenya, Chechnya, Pakistan, India, Yemen, and Saudi Arabia (the Khobar bombing of the hotel where the American aviators had residence) to end up with the 9/11/ 2001 attack on the Twin Towers. During the decade, after the dismantlement of Russia, the US Administrations toned down every terrorist’s activities to its public opinion in order to focus on world financial domination and the restructuring of Europe.

It’s been a tiring week for me as one day after another it’s been like going somewhere here, doing something there. Today off to Bandar again. This time we (me, the wife, Cuz Rahim and dad-in-law) went to the Jln Residency cemetery for tahlil and Surah Yasin recitation.

I didn’t sleep after sahur so you can just imagine the state I was in on the way to Bandar. We took the boat ride and arrived around 8am. We waited a wee bit at the tambing before heading off to the cemetery.

.Jln Residency cemetery in Kianggeh.

.We walked there since it is near the tambing.

As if I don’t have to tell you readers, we managed to do a little bit of shopping afterwards. However, we had to wait for the shops to open since it was still only 9am. Our main aim was for the expo at the Trade Exhibition Centre in Bandar but we ended up going to Yayasan. Borrowed Ka Zian’s car and even got as far as Giant and the Mall.

.The closed-for-business-cause-it’s-still-early expo.

Went home around 2pm. I even had time to go to school to photocopy something before eventually taking a nap until it was time for sungkai. ES7

Went to Bandar today with the wife and two of my cousins. Had some errands to run and things to buy.

Went to Bandar today with the wife and two of my cousins. Had some errands to run and things to buy. First off, we had to find a replacement signal casing for my dad-in-law’s Toyota Kijang. Somehow it was busted a few months back. Don’t know how exactly. Maybe he hit something or something hit it.

Got to the immigration post in Limbang and saw this notice. Thanks to Cuz Fahmi for his Nokia N82. It was nice for the Limbang government, the immigration especially for letting this happen.

.The notice for extended immigration hours.

We couldn’t find the casing so we headed to Bandar. Arrived around 1-ish and went straight to Baiduri Finance to hand in my car’s bluecard (and get back my $50 deposit). No problems there so we went to DMA to find Kijang’s part. Bad news: right part, right side. Sorry, meant to say right part, wrong side. The busted signal casing was for the left side and they only had the right one. So confusing this English language! From Kiarong, we went to Menglait to buy some stuffs at Le’ Apple. My wife was like a kid in a candy store, she loved the place.

.Le’ Apple in Menglait.

Then we hit the Mall to get some more shopping done. After that, to Jaya Hypermart, for even more, er, shopping. Our last destination before breaking fast was Yayasan Shopping Complex. Did some more shopping (of course, what else is new?) and headed to the food court. Ordered Butter Milk Chicken and Bandung for me.

.Tasted good but not the best I’ve had.

.Just nice.

After sungkai, dropped off Cuz Fahmi at his house and then a long journey back to Temburong. Even had time to post this entry and watch a bit of tv. ES7

BND 328. That’s the total cost of what we spent on the new “shoes” this morning. Went to Bandar with my wife to have new tyres fitted onto her Perodua Kelisa. We only got to have it done today since we arrived at Bandar around 5.30 yesterday, just enough time to buy some food and sped to Lambak.

On our way, we decided to stop at Soon Lee to buy something. Got there and – Lo and behold! – it was closed! Sheesh! Talk about unlucky breaks. Well, that was what it was, a break for the Soon Lee staff.

.So this is how the inside of a closed supermarket looks like.

.Didn’t see this notice until after.

We went out again last night, this time to buy a food crushing machine also known as a blender. Now, where should we go to buy a blender at night-time? There were several places, but we chose Giant hypermarket.

.But, of course. Where else?.

Also bought some fireworks for the nephews. Went home and rested.

Well, that was yesterday’s story done. Woke up around 9am today, showered, <strike>had breakfast</strike>, then off to S & L Trading Sdn. Bhd in Lambak. I always go there for any tyre-related stuff. There were some options for us: BND 65 Yokohama or Bridgestone, or the cheaper BND 40 (West Lake). We opted for the Bridgestone, as it came from Japan.

.S & L Trading: Best place IMHO, but don’t just take my word for it.

.New tyres installed, now for the magical part.

I’ve never understood about this alignment/camber thingy. How it works and stuff like that. Well, leave it to the experts I say. We still need to have the rear tyres checked some place else though. The mechanic advised me to have them get sorted out since they are not parallel to each other, and that was the real source of the problem in the first place.

Tyres = BND 65 each (4 units)

Camber = BND 25 (Front right/left)

Alignment = BND 10 (Front)

Miscellaneous = BND 8

Total = BND 328

After Friday prayer, we ran some errands before heading back to Temburong. Managed to get back in time for sungkai. After the obligatory rest after-a-huge-meal, we went outside to accompany the kids while they played with fireworks.

.My wife with Cuz Amal watching Mirza play with fireworks as his father also looks on.

.Even though it’s just fireworks, Norhan still covered his ears (So cute).

It has been a tiring two days. But it was fun. ES7

Reports circulating in the Kremlin today are stating that President Medvedev expressed “shock” to President Obama during an emergency phone conference over the United States backing of a coup to overthrow the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Even more shocking, these reports continue, was when Medvedev pressed Obama on why Iran had “suddenly” transferred over $18 Billion to the American President’s “personal account”, Obama was said to have replied, “You’ll find out soon enough”.

In Saudi Arabia, meanwhile, the situation remains tense over the aborted coup-attempt, and as we can read as reported by Iran’s National News Service:

“Saudi Prince Bandar bin Sultan[photo 2nd left], the kingdom’s former ambassador to the United States, is reportedly under house arrest over a conspiracy against the monarch.

Saad al-Faqih, head of the opposition group Islamic Reform Movement, told Arab-language TV al-Alam that Prince Bandar has been disappeared and the media has published no word from the ex-diplomat’s whereabouts since nearly three months ago.

Saad al-Faqih, head of the opposition group Islamic Reform Movement, told Arab-language TV al-Alam that Prince Bandar has been disappeared and the media has published no word from the ex-diplomat’s whereabouts since nearly three months ago.
According to al-Faqih, the prince first disappeared in Britain but he returned to the kingdom shortly afterwards.
He added that after Saudi officials discovered that he had provoked 200 agents working for the Saudi security service to stage a coup against King Abdullah, he was put under house arrest.

Al-Faqih said people close to the king had disclosed Bandar’s plots and foiled them.

He said Saudi sources believe that intelligence provided by some Arab countries help the Saudi monarch foil Prince Bandar’s conspiracy.

Power struggle between members of the Saudi royal family has been common as power is shared among some 200 princes out of the estimated 7000 family members.

Known as Bandar Bush because of his close relations with former US President George W Bush, the prince is son of Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz.

Went to Bandar again yesterday. This time is to attend the family dinner/Ka Siti’s/Wafi’s birthday. Had it at the new TARINDAK d’ SENI restaurant near Jalan Kianggeh. It was situated at the back of the Arts and Craft building, on the first floor. Leading up to the restaurant, there were some handmade crafts displayed to be sold. I even saw a $2000 Baju Cara Melayu/Baju Kurung set. It was fun being back together with the family at one place. Nearing the end, we had cakes brought out and even sang the birthday song twice.

I saw my old friend Keagun there, too. He was celebrating his cousin’s birthday. In all, I think there were 4 people celebrating their birthdays there. The food was okay, it’s not going to compete Airport Restaurant nor Rizqun, but I think it has potential. The service was good, they had more than enough waiter/waiteress. The place was also good, clean, everything is tidy and there was even some artifacts on display.

If it was during the day, we would have seen a great view of Sungai Brunei and Kampong Ayer. It was too dark to see clearly, though, which is a drag. Oh well, you can’t win them all.

Anyways, happy birthday Ka Siti and Wafi. ES7

My windows are open — with the Kuala Lumpur heat slaying my presence. Clear blue skies outside

My windows are open — with the Kuala Lumpur heat slaying my presence. Clear blue skies outside. The sounds of drills cracking at resisting walls and random grinders that work the construction sites of Kelana Jaya — developing at mind blowing speeds. Is anyone paying attention to this? Maybe. It is a part of what happens around us. And by accepting the nature of development, we allow it to prevail. So houses are torn down and bigger and better blocks of concrete are erected. So are commercial lots.

My window at one point had displayed to me the presence of this whole town. My view had stretched out into the depths of Sunway, allowing me to glimpse into the glowing orbs of nightlife on the Pyramid grounds and its wildness as reflected into the colorful sky above. I have recently returned in search of my past. And in enthusiastic reverence of rediscovering my youth — returned home, reinhabited my room, revisited my windows — to find slabs of concrete barricading the view. A view that had once lifted my heart, over late night cigarettes and peanut butter sandwiches.

This breach of space, I shall disclose is a radical transformation in my psyche. A transformation that plays a crucial role in altering my readapting capabilities. How I react to people around me and how I perceive fellow Malaysians. Unfortunately, Kelana Jaya has gotten to be a whole lot more claustrophobic then it used to be. And its inhabitants embrace this with capitalist pride. A damn shame.

The advent of the LDP, like any river, road or canal, imbrued impatient corporate hounds to shower this neighborhood with territorial pissings. Those who have any leverage of humanity and who is adept enough to sense this invasion move way the fuck out. And those who stay,…stay only to get sucked deeper into its rush of madness.

Well, from my perception. This is how its has changed. People stick to themselves a whole lot more (a preliminary big city disorder). The friendly neighborly feel of Kelana Jaya as it was back in the 80’s, has dissipated. The lightness has transformed into a trivial play of ‘who gets what’ competition. Vile attempts at backstabbing has risen among youth and sometimes adults. Children are becoming more violent in schools. There is a more apparent sense of judgement towards people pertaining to your status in society. Meetings are held to promote political scams. Residents who are humble belittled. Neighbors walk by you without a smile. Less and less of us even start to notice each other or if and when someone new has moved in. And some, in their most despicable ways, display their imposing wealth by renovating their homes to occupy as much space as possible before it evades them.

And to say, most of these homes are hideous. Because naturally, those who strive for the dollar lose all sense of a nurturing beauty. And most of these houses will be a clear cut representation of another house they saw in lets say, Tmn Tun or a dumb DIY television show. So what is the reason in doing so when originality is lacking. Pride and competition.

Well if you don’t like it leave right? My bags are packed. I’m walking out the door. My time spent here was an experience in itself. An experience of seclusion. A devoid reality. I now sense a mechanism about me I have to shake loose. My soul is tainted a bit and needs replenishment. This neighborhood is dying. Its sun shines through plastic sheets. The stars don’t come out anymore. And its moon doesn’t want to talk to you. Goodnight.

Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB), jantungnya Brunei Darussalam. Sebelum 4 Oktober 1970 BSB dikenali sebaga

Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB), jantungnya Brunei Darussalam.
