Leloup vieillit et ses fans aussi. Adulescents à l’apparence soigneusement négligée et autres matantes un peu flyées marquent leur pied carré de territoire :  pas – sinon que très peu – de mineurs en vue. Dans un Métropolis plein à craquer, des effluves de sueur, de shish taouk et de digestion parfument le parterre alors que la bête n’est pas encore montée sur scène. De quoi promettre un show bien senti.

Alors que la foule est complètement hystérique, The Wolf apparaît sur scène dans le plus grand calme, sa célèbre fourrure sur les épaules. Dès qu’il prend le micro, le monde obéit. Simple comme bonjour, il raconte l’histoire interminable de « comment ça a commencé » puis balance hit après hit, des parcelles de nostalgie extrêmement bien dépoussiérées (Faire des enfants, Edgar, Sang d’encre, etc.) aux petites dernières de Milles excuses Milady. Il en a même joué plusieurs de Mexico, au grand étonnement de ceux qui croyaient l’épisode Jean Leclerc oublié. Rihanna’s new tattoo, etched on her hip by New York artist BangBang is spelt wrong according to Sanskrit expert, Mark Fielden.

The ink-work is taken from Gita, a holy Hindu Sanskrit scripture means “forgiveness, honesty, suppression and control”.

But Fielden says it is “incorrectly written.”

O.M.G. how embarrassing, she’s going to feel sooo stupid when she attends all those ancient text conventions.

Tattoo’s and hip hop go together like a horse and carriage. I suppose all the fringe genres of music over the years have been associated with tattoos, from  rock and heavy metal to goth and punk. I’d say it’s pretty safe to say that this is the decade where hip hop is identified as the genre where tattoos run supreme. That became quite obvious when casual suburban NBA fans complained to D. Stern that the image of the NBA was getting “hip hopped” out. No doubt your man A.I. had a huge part of blurring the line between professional athlete and rapper, however that still doesn’t justify the lack of merit for assuming such a position. The ignorance was focused on one thing ; Iverson was tatted up, that and the corn rows. 

Tattoos became certified as a new craze once girls in Orange County started to rep their ink the way that those in Venice always had. Nowadays it’s outright ludicrous to expect a rising star not to jump on the body ink bandwagon. Because of this pop trend, tattoo artists have been reevaluated by our society’s moral lens, and have been reincarnated as boutique artisans. Some of these artists develop a cult following, as is the case for NY tattoo artist BangBang. BangBang has been inking up some serious celebrities, pumping more ink than Mont Blanc is a grind, especially when artists like Rihanna are flying you out for appointments. Already sporting a few BangBang tattoos, Rihanna recently got a new Sanskrit tattoo from the ink guru. Peep it…

The tattoo is apparently an excerpt from the holy Hindu text, the Gita. The excerpt above her hip is a Sanskrit quote that says “forgiveness, honesty, suppression and control.” However, upon closer inspection by a few Sanskrit experts it was revealed that the Sanskrit is actually spelt wrongly, FAIL.  Not sure what the tattoo in fact does say, if any of the Zebreezy faithful want to take a stab at it, here’s a closer look at Rihanna’s right hip…

Hơn một tháng sau khi bị người tình Chris Brown hành hung, nữ ca sĩ “Umbrella” trở lại với cuộc sống thường nhật và sắm cho mình một hình xăm mới ở gần vòng một.

Rihanna đã có một bộ sưu tập các hình xăm trong đó có một chòm sao ở phần cổ phía sau lưng và một dấu hiệu của bộ lạc Maori ở cổ tay phải. Giờ đây, cô quyết định tậu thêm hình xăm khẩu súng – một biểu tượng của sức mạnh. Nghệ sĩ BangBang đã tới nhà nữ ca sĩ để thực hiện hình xăm này cho cô hôm 19/3.

BangBang cho biết: “Rihanna có một chiếc vòng cổ mà tôi rất thích khi nhìn thấy một năm trước. Tôi bảo cô ấy: ‘Em nên xăm hình một khẩu súng nhỏ’. Khi Rihanna mời tôi tới Los Angeles xăm cho bạn cô ấy nhân dịp sinh nhật, tôi lại đưa ra đề xuất trên và cô ấy đã rất hài lòng khi công việc hoàn tất”.

Nữ ca sĩ da màu và nghệ sĩ xăm mình đã xem xét việc xăm hai khẩu súng ở hai vai nhưng BangBang nói: “Cô ấy rất xinh đẹp nên nếu xăm ở đó sẽ lấy đi sự chú ý vào khuôn mặt”. Rihanna và BangBang cũng đang lên kế hoạch trong đầu về một hình xăm nữa. “Cô ấy thích xăm mình. Chúng có ý nghĩa rất lớn với cô ấy”, nghệ sĩ 23 tuổi nói.

BangBang cũng tiết lộ về tâm trạng của Rihanna hiện giờ: “Cô ấy đang sống rất tốt và hứng khởi. Mọi người đều yêu mến và ủng hộ cô ấy. Rihanna rất dễ xúc động và luôn có những người bạn tốt ở bên mỗi khi cần”.

Si vous êtes en manque de Malajube, vous pourriez vous contenter légèrement en écoutant Moonbeams, premier album de Throw Me The Statue. Formé par Scott Reitherman, le groupe fait dans la pop lo-fi très entraînante, rappelant parfois Of Montreal et même Beck. Throw Me The Statue vous décrochera sans doute un sourire, puisque son (long) album témoigne de l’habileté mélodique et de l’unicité du son du quintette de Seattle. Mais si le groupe déploie tout un arsenal d’instruments, allant des synthés aux boîtes à rythmes cheap, il manque toutefois de concision. Ses arrangements, pas toujours efficaces, font perdre l’essence de certaines pièces, devenues cacophoniques et truffées de bruitages inutiles. Malgré tout, les chansons demeurent excellentes, et avec un peu plus de profondeur sonore, Throw Me The Statue devrait tout arracher.

Il n’y a pas de demi-mesure avec le jeune collectif londonien Sian Alice Group. Sur son premier album, 59.59, on passe de la léthargie complète à la vivacité la plus totale. C’est que le groupe, souvent instrumental, plutôt expérimental, et faisant dans ce que l’on pourrait qualifier de shoegaze orchestral, alterne entre la douce voix aérienne de Sian Ahern, qui joue le rôle d’un instrument, et la lourdeur des rythmes répétitifs et des guitares entêtées. Sian Alice Group n’est pas sans rappeler Spiritualized, dont un des musiciens, John Coxon, a déjà collaboré avec le groupe. Les membres de Sian Alice Group produisent un mélange éclectique et rafraîchissant, bien que parfois difficile à déchiffrer, et il en ressort une certaine désinvolture, malheureusement surproduite et dépourvue de spontanéité.

Marco Benevento / Invisible Baby

Marc Benevento, jeune claviériste talentueux originaire du New Jersey, et membre du duo Benevento/Russo, présente son premier album solo, Invisible Baby. Entièrement instrumental, l’album de Benevento se trouve à mi-chemin entre l’indie-rock et le jazz, proposant des ambiances éclatées et de drôles de mixtures sonores, comme le mélange du Mellotron et du banjo. Naturellement, Benevento met à l’avant-plan les claviers, de même que la batterie, et s’est d’ailleurs entouré de musiciens chevronnés, dont le célèbre batteur Matt Chamberlain. Pas si lointaines des bidouillages de Thom Yorke ou de Ratatat, les huit longues pistes d’Invisible Baby témoignent de la virtuosité du musicien et de ses comparses, qui forment un véritable jam band, bien qu’ils ne semblent pas apprécier une telle étiquette.
