Have you ever thought about starting your own jewellery business? The best thing about this business is that you never run out of gifts for your friends and you never need to buy new jewellery, just wear your own!

I started making jewellery when I broke my partners hip hop chain, it was made of nylon string, shamballa balls and hematite beads. So I bought myself my first jewellery kit in August 2011 in Covent Garden. I managed to fix this chain and I added my own stamp by adding and changing the beads around and some bling spacers.  In the beginning I would just tie the necklace at the back with a draw string so it was easy to change the size, but this seemed tacky so I started to research into other ways of improving the necklace.

This is the image of the first Hip Hop chain i made. My partner wore this chain and that’s how I started getting my first orders. Every time I watched the TV I was studying celebrities jewellery. After watching Basketball Wives I started making the popular hoop earrings seen on Evelyn. My first one was sold on eBay, the Basketball Wives craze had not reached the UK at this point so I had the advantage of being the only UK seller at the time.

I then began jewellery parties and thanks to friends and acquaintances around me, my jewellery featured in music  videos of some UK artists. Shortly after that I was selling my jewellery to a local shop.

My designs are rapidly changing to keep up with current trends. Creating unique pieces and coming up with new ideas is my favourite part of this business. It’s easy to copy other people’s designs but more challenging creating your own.

My ideas are mostly generated from our seasons my favourite colours are turquoise and red at the moment. Having just come back from Turkey, the gorgeous blue colours and the reds they use for their “evil eye” jewellery has really inspired me. I’ve also travelled to Hong Kong, Morocco and other countries, to bring their influences into my design.

Once you’ve started to make your jewellery you need to choose a good name. Don’t call it something like “Bella’s Bling” you want the name to reflect the quality and exclusivity of your product.

It’s one thing to see someone like Taylor Swift attends a young man’s prom, it seems like a kind and thoughtful gesture made by one of the world’s best known pop stars. However when a reality star known for bad girl behavior and dating, marrying and divorcing a high profile bad boy and reportedly abusive athlete, I can’t help but wonder what the parents of the 19 year old boy who asked Evelyn Lozada, 37, were thinking?

Surely the young man was thinking Lozada was a beautiful and obviously sexy woman and that he’d have the time of his life showing up with her on his arm at his prom. So yeah I get it from his point of view.

What I don’t understand is the mindset of all the adults involved in this event. Lozada has stated that she accepted the 19 year old senior’s twitter request because she was unable to attend her own prom because she was pregnant. And while I am not questioning her motivations but more her intentions particularly as she showed up wearing a dress that was clearly meant to steal the show as they say.

And as far as the young man’s parents are concerned, Ms. Lozada of Basketball Wives Fame, is not someone generally thought of as a role model for teenagers. Her status as one for adults is even questionable. So again I wonder, why when upon learning that their son had expressed interest in having this woman attend as his date did they agree? Were they too caught up in the idea of celebrity as coolness, rather then thinking of how the attendance of this sort of celebrity affects their community, their children and their son?

But ultimately I feel the most disappointment towards Lozada. With all the high profile events she attends each year, surely she has had enough opportunities to replace her missed out prom experience without having to show up at one of the last great teenage events any high schooler can experience, and turning it into a publicity stunt only to further promote her highly sexualized image and fame and money at all costs lifestyle.

There is a line that we all need to be aware of especially now with the access twitter, facebook, instagram, tumblr and the like affords us in terms of connecting with celebrities. As our children grow up and mature in this dizzyingly fast paced world, we need to safe guard them from experiences that may seem outwardly cool, but actually steals from them one of the few opportunities to shine in their own spotlight as just themselves. It is easy for us to get caught up in the television drama, if we watch enough of it. Drama entices us to watch more and gets us “hooked”, so therefore drama sells.

With all the drama we watch on television (for those of us who have ever watched or admit to watching it, hehehe), have we lost sight of what healthy relationships look like? Whether it is with a family member or significant other, healthy relationships are still important, right? Maybe we do not agree. Maybe we feel comfortable with drama in our relationships? Maybe we think drama in relationships is the new norm? Maybe we do not realize how much watching these television shows impacts our relationships and how we interact with others? Regardless of how we feel, drama HAS infiltrated our society in a greater way and that is why we think it is important to reevaluate what healthy relationships really look like…

We think it is important for us to start from the beginning…what exactly does the word relationship mean? The definition of a relationship is, “The way in which two or more people are connected, or the state of being connected”. We all have a desire to be connected to others, right? We all have a desire to be loved and accepted, right? Did you know that there are wonderful benefits to having relationships? According to the December 2010 issue of Harvard Women’s Health Watch, “People who have satisfying relationships have been shown to be happier, have fewer health problems, and live longer. In contrast, having few social ties is associated with depression, cognitive decline, and premature death”.

While it is important to understand that no person or relationship is perfect, there are ways to ensure that our relationships are as healthy as possible. Important qualities of healthy relationships include respect, communication, understanding, supportive, patience, compromise, trust, honesty, forgiveness, committed, etc. Here are some examples of how some of these qualities play out in relationships:

• Speak Up. In a healthy relationship, if something is bothering you, it’s best to talk about it instead of holding it in.
• Respect Your Partner. Your partner’s wishes and feelings have value. Let your significant other know you are making an effort to keep their ideas in mind. Mutual respect is essential in maintaining healthy relationships.
• Compromise. Disagreements are a natural part of healthy relationships, but it’s important that you find a way to compromise if you disagree on something. Try to solve conflicts in a fair and rational way.
• Be Supportive. Offer reassurance and encouragement to your partner. Also, let your partner know when you need their support. Healthy relationships are about building each other up, not putting each other down.
• Respect Each Other’s Privacy. Just because you’re in a relationship, doesn’t mean you have to share everything and constantly be together. Healthy relationships require space.

Creating boundaries is a good way to keep your relationship healthy and secure. By setting boundaries together, you can both have a deeper understanding of the type of relationship that you and your partner want. Know that you deserve wonderful relationships and you deserve to be treated with respect. This night was some poor high school girls chance to shine but NOOOOOOOO instead it had to be all about Evelyn’s 40 year old ass. She had to come with titties hangin all out and everything……DAMN SHAME!

To her credit she DID pay for everything including her flight from L.A. to Michigan where the prom was held. But then again she was probably told to do so by some over-priced publicist who knows what a narcissist Evelyn is. The lil dude bought her a corsage and everything. The REAL question is…..DID THE POST PROM RITUAL TAKE PLACE??? Translation: Did he hit??? I wouldn’t doubt it lol.             Since America started to justify racist social profiles, fallacious stereotypes about the African-American community have been promoted. Just a few of these harmful assumptions that have hurt such a large number of people are:

• African-Americans are sex-crazed
• African-Americans are lazy
• African-Americans are rude and have bad manners

These television shows are vapid, lacking in any intellectual value, and serve only to reinforce these vicious stereotypes. What Viacom wants you to believe is that the melodrama in the show, such as African-American women being catty to each other, is happening in real life; the cameras just happen to be filming it while it happens, and the storyline naturally arise from normal, unscripted day-to-day life.

There may be fragments of truth to the storyline, but the vast majority of it is completely fake—and that’s how black people end up fighting and cursing at one another on national television, as if they are devoid of manners, basic decency, and class. Due to the producers’ whims, black people are shown as sex-crazed maniacs. In reality, much of the content in these shows is either scripted or facilitated by the director and camera crew. “Reality tv” is as “real” as the typical Hollywood nose job; stars of the show, though likely chosen for their outgoing, strong personalities, are shaped into an unrealistic, insulting stereotype in which they are superficial, petty, and presumptuous. Real people’s personalities become blown out of proportion, particularly once the footage is taken to the editing stage. With careful editing, producers can churn out material that highlights whatever they’re aiming for. For instance, if they can catch a reality star wrinkling her nose in disgust at seeing a dog engage in unhygienic behavior, they can cut the dog entirely out of the frame and insert the shot elsewhere so it looks as though the star is arrogant and mean towards a co-star. By having reality stars memorize their lines in the script, exaggerate their normal behavior, and slyly edit the footage, producers have a huge amount of elbow room in creating whatever ratchet tv show they want.

 The end result is even more content to add to the barrage of stereotype-infused trash distributed by the media. These negative, racist messages simply continue the cycle of society’s horrendous degradation of black people. These weapons of mass destruction are primarily successful when, worst of all, young black teenagers themselves start watching these shows and accepting this utter destruction of racial pride and self-esteem. This results in viewers adopting the grossly inaccurate portrayal of typical behavior in the black community, thereby perpetrating these evil stereotypes. The weapons of mass destruction have a disastrous impact on black culture and reinforce racist stereotypes, which contributes to the overall problems of racism and feelings of shame that one may unjustifiably feel for belonging to a certain race.

            But there is good news. Each day, more and more African-Americans can join in the rebellion against these hateful tv shows. The danger of these weapons of mass destruction can easily be neutralized by anyone who has access to a remote: press the “off” button.

            Be a rebel. Read a book instead.

I want to thank Anthony and his mom Sean Nelson for opening their home to me! Anthony’s entire family and friends came by his house to see him off to prom and it was amazing, he even bought me a corsage!!! I’ve never had a corsage! You guys don’t understand how HAPPY I was!! My date was decked out in a custom made tuxedo and black Chanel shoes looking as handsome as ever.
