As you might have saw in our post last week, Warner Bros. Youtube channel accidentally let it slip that ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ would be on Blu-Ray and DVD on December 3, 2012. Well, now it is official with Blu-Ray and DVD covers, Limited Edition statue, and Trilogy Box Set covers revealed courtesy of Comicbookmovie.com.

See the UK DVD cover below:

Click For Full Size

So first of all, who designed this cover? Second, who approved of this cover? This is ugly. Sure Batman looks cool but look at the rest. It’s just random police cars with the bat behind Batman’s head which we can’t see well. Not to mention that Batman photo is from a different TDKR poster in which they took it from a still in ‘The Dark Knight’. It still looks cool nevertheless, but it still looks stupid. They should’ve hired some fans to do this or had a contest to use fanmade covers. Seriously, some of the stuff people make on the internet is freaking amazing.

Click For Full Size

And there is the little statue sort of thing that comes with the limited edition Blu-Ray combo pack. The broken cowl that doesn’t even match up with the way it was broken in the movie but who cares! It’s still cool!

Click For Full Size

As you can see, that is the same Batman image used on the UK DVD cover. But anyways, this poster. is starting to grow on me. I like it.

Click For The Full Size

This is the Blu-Ray trilogy boxset that will be used. It’s pretty simple, but still cool nevertheless.

Click For Full Size

Here is all of the contents for the Blu-Ray tril0gy boxset. Pretty cool stuff. Am I right?

Click For Full Size

YESSSS. I am so glad that the DVD trilogy boxset has this cover. This concept was fanmade by, you guessed it, a fan. Looks like Warner Bros. came across it and decided to use it. I’ll definitely be getting this.

Click For Full Size

And there are the contents of the box set. Just like the Blu-Ray box set pretty much, just a different and better cover.

Pick up ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Blu-Ray or DVD on December 3, 2012.

There are 64 images total in that album which are all very interesting with many different poses from the two stars.

It’s been pretty heavy over here for the past couple of weeks. Whenever I’m going throug

It’s been pretty heavy over here for the past couple of weeks. Whenever I’m going through something, I find that music helps me patch up what hurts and keep walking through it all.

Fall is rolling in, and with it, comes an ever evolving playlist. My tastes turn darker and slower as the sky turns lapis blue and the the air chills. The songs are sadder and madder.

And there’s no one madder than Nick Cave, is there, really? I’d love to say I discovered him and his beautiful voice in Wings of Desire, but that came later. I found this madman on this 90s gem:

Yes, the Batman Forever soundtrack. The soundtrack everyone bought for that Seal song. But I always ended up spinning Nick Cave’s crazy track There Is a Light. From there, I became more acquainted with this Aussie and his tendency towards love, obsession, murder, and desire of PJ Harvey.

I discovered Lance Whalen in a similar fashion. Me and the husband found ourselves in a puppet gallery in Alabama, waiting to see Helen Keller’s Ukelele play and ended up being introduced to some other great musicians (Aquariums and Jaeme Case) and Lance was one of them. Literally, the next night, I found myself at a bar in Chattanooga with Lance, discussing our love of Nick Cave.

So when I found out Lance was covering Nick Cave, I knew I had to see it. I was not disappointed. Highlights included Henry Lee and an acoustic version of From Her to Eternity. It was absolutely what my soul needed.

Warner Bros. actually uploaded the 3rd trailer of ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ onto their Youtube channel again a couple days ago. Why did they do this? The description of the video told us that the film will be available on Blu-ray Combo Pack and Digital Download on December 3. A tidbit little message added to the end of the trailer was added too, if you decided to watch the whole thing.

To our suprise, Warner Bros. removed the description of the video not too long before uploading the video, then deleted it. Why did they do this? Some speculate it was because they decided they did not want to announce the date yet. Considering everyone in the world who loves the new summer box office masterpiece heard of the news, taking down the trailer was pointless.

Of all the 0 issues DC has released this month, this is the best one I’ve read so far. The only time

Of all the 0 issues DC has released this month, this is the best one I’ve read so far. The only time I’ve seen this story before is in Batman Forever and needless to say this is vastly superior.

This does an excellent job at summing up various events that lead Grayson towards becoming Batman’s first sidekick. At the same time, there’s plenty of room for emotional character development and tragic sentimentality. Even before Batman began training him, Robin shows plenty of potential as both a detective and a fighter. This comic also does a great job at showcasing how similar yet different Batman and Nightwing are.

One particular emphasis was on Nightwing’s ability to read people and body movement. It makes total sense considering as an acrobat, you have to know where your trapeze partner is going to be and when. I’ve read a few complaints that this should be Cassandra Cain’s ability, who isn’t allowed to show up in the new dc universe as of now. I see no reason why an acrobat shouldn’t also have similar abilities through training.

The art isn’t as good as the story, but it’s good enough. The backgrounds are complete enough that you always know where each scene takes place. The fighting is well drawn and easy to follow. On the down side, characters often look calmer than they should be. It’s this apparent emotional distance that holds back what should be an emotional story. Otherwise, I can’t think of any complaints about the art.

If you haven’t seen Robin’s origin story beyond Batman Forever, this is an easy recommendation. If you have read it before, read it first and decide for yourself. It’s a great comic, but as a new DC reader I don’t know how it compares to the original story.

It’s the question that’s been on minds across the world and the internet ever since

It’s the question that’s been on minds across the world and the internet ever since ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ went into theaters on July 20, 2012. But will there actually be a director’s cut of The Dark Knight Rises?

Nuke The Fridge reported not too long ago,

“It’s going to include Bane’s origin plus a bit more screentime for Ra’s al Ghul (Liam Neeson), which were omitted from the current theatrical cut of the movie…. We will be able to see how Bane learns to fight plus more scenes involving Ra’s al Ghul,”

Those extra bits do seem cool. But I HIGHLY DOUBT that would turn into 30 whole minutes more of screentime even if that is true. I mean come on. Those would only be flashbacks when one of the prisoners would be telling Bruce some story of the ‘child who made the jump’ or in Bruce’s hallucination of Ra’s Al Ghul. That would not be 30 whole minutes, surely.

Also, why are those scenes even necessary? Sure, I’d like to know how Bane got that scar on his back and see Bane stand on sticks while being whacked like Bruce in Batman Begins, and of course we all love Liam Neeson. But do we really even need those scenes? That would most likely mess up the pace of the film, since they’d be told in flashbacks. Not knowing how Ra’s Al Ghul and Bane acted around each other and how Bane got that scar leaves a mystery for us to decide. It makes some fun for the audience.

If anyone knows anything about Nolan, they’d know he likes to preserve the movie magic. What does this mean? It means he does not like telling the people about how the film is made or showing them anymore than what they should be seeing in the theater. That is the reason why his films do not have extensive behind the scenes coverage or full on documentary’s like ‘The Avengers’.

Do we really need a extended director’s cut? We all loved The Dark Knight Rises. Personally, I saw it twice, once in a normal theater, once in IMAX, and the midnight premiere was the greatest experience I’ve ever had in a movie theater ever. The film is pretty long anyways, 2 hours and 44 minutes. That was the maximum they could show in an IMAX theater which is one of the reasons why people think they’re should be more.

Deleted scenes are deleted for a reason. The Dark Knight Rises was phenomenal. Be happy it was as good as it was.

Jim Carrey has officially joined the cast of Kick Ass 2: Balls to the Wall. Carrey will play Colonel

Jim Carrey has officially joined the cast of Kick Ass 2: Balls to the Wall. Carrey will play Colonel Stars who assembles a group of misfit superheroes to fight evil. This will be Carrey’s first comic book movie since Batman Forever where he played The Riddler.

Without Matthew Vaughn directing, I’m scared that the dark humour and grittiness of the first Kick Ass movie will be traded for over the top performances and slapstick humor. Let’s pray that Kick Ass 2 is closer to The Avengers than Mystery Men.

Ever look at an overstuffed movie poster and wonder, “Is that tiny figure over on the left a m

Ever look at an overstuffed movie poster and wonder, “Is that tiny figure over on the left a man, a woman or a smudge that didn’t get properly PhotoShopped out of existence?”

THE EXPENDABLES 2 is the latest movie to stuff 40 pounds of characters into a 5-pound bag.

Here’s the movie poster.

Who’s that one guy way in the back, wearing a hat? NOBODY KNOWS, but he made $15.3 million for this movie. Remember that tomorrow at work.

I counted 11 action heroes on that poster, which is 10 more action heroes than you typically need for an action film, even if eight of these guys just got broken out of the Beverly Hills Nursing Home.

Bet you anything the team of screenwriters — if I put a 9 mm to their head and started counting down — couldn’t tell you all 11 character names, and the average movie-goer wouldn’t notice if you chopped five of them from the film entirely.

This is a common problem, not just for Hollywood but for novels, especially anything involving fantasy and sci-fi, because no self-respecting Jedi or Hobbit goes off on an adventure without at least 23 other people tromping around with them, squabbling with each other when they’re not getting captured by Darth Vader and such.

IT IS A MESS.

Now, this problem also happens in comic book movies, partly because of the Comic Book Movie Laws.

Movie No. 1: The origin story of the hero along with the hero’s nemesis, the best villain. So: one hero, one villain.

Movie No. 2: The hero gets two sidekicks as he battles TWO villains.

Movie No. 3: The hero juggles an entourage that won’t fit in a Greyhound bus while he battles THREE villains.

Movie No. 4: Doesn’t happen, unless your name is Joel Schumacher and you’re making the mistake known as BATMAN FOREVER. Otherwise, the series dies and reboots.

I just watched THOR again, using the powers of Netflix over the Series of Tubes and such, and it is a fun little popcorn movie.

However, the cast of characters will make your head hurt: Thor, Hannibal Lecter, Loki, Princess Leia‘s mom, the Guardian, the Frost Giants, that arrow-shooting guy from THE AVENGERS and BOURNE LEGACY, Agent Coulson, the Frost Giant King, Yoda, the shark from JAWS and other people I’m probably forgetting.

In all seriousness: There’s a scene where Thor’s buddies are walking down the street and one of the SHIELD agents calls it in, saying he just spotted Xena, Robin Hood and Jackie Chan.

This agent is not only sarcastic, but wrong, because he’s completely forgetting Thor’s fourth sidekick, the fat bearded guy who — and this is shocking — likes to eat a lot.

In this movie, Princess Leia’s mom is Thor’s love interest, which is like a sidekick, but different, in that Thor makes goo-goo eyes at her. With his other sidekicks, he simply claps them on the shoulder in a manly way, or maybe hugs them — though he hugs her, too. IT IS CONFUSING.

Anyway, the point is, she has two of her own sidekicks: an old Norwegian scientist guy or whatever and some kind of sarcastic girl scientist who is apparently there for contrast, to make Princess Leia’s mom look even more smart and beautiful.

You heard me right: The sidekick has sidekicks of her own.

This is all too common and all too wrong.

Every movie and book could be improved by killing off every possible character.

In fact, thinking of “Who could we erase from the page?” is the wrong question. Start by saying, “Who is the ONE essential character?” and work up to the number two, the number three, pi (3.14-whatever) and some imaginary numbers.

Then break the Four Barrier and stop to reflect upon WHAT YOU HAVE WROUGHT, which is a far, far better story than what you started with.

THOR can’t exist without Thor (1) and if we need a second character, it’s obviously Loki (2). Odin (3) and the Frost King (4) would round out a top four. That story could work. Everybody else could go take a nice long vacation on a desert planet with two suns.

Going the other direction, just for fun: Say goodbye, Xena / Robin Hood / Jackie Chan / Fat Guy sidekicks (minus 4). Not essential to the story at all. See ya to Princess Leia’s mom and her two sidekicks (minus 3). Goodbye to Agent Coulson and the arrow man (minus 2). No more Guardian and Odin’s wife (minus 2). That’s 11 characters out the door, and those actors need not be unemployed: we will send them to star in THE EXPENDABLES 3: STALLONE NEEDS ANOTHER FACELIFT.

IRON MAN 2 had it much worse than THOR, with the villain played by Mickey Rourke getting buried by layers upon layers of sidekicks. I mean, look at this movie poster. All sidekicks, all the time. Villains are so boooring.

Peoples of Hollywood and writers of books, please kill off sidekicks.

Do it with a sharp pen, a 12-gauge shotgun or a red lightsaber — I don’t care.

Just do it before they make IRON MAN 3.

‘The Dark Knight Rises’, which premiered on July 20, 2012 in IMAX and regular theaters across the world was one of the most anticipated movies of all time. But did it live up to anticipation?

Days before The Dark Knight Rises hit theaters across the world, Rotten Tomatoes gave it a rating of 87% and many reviews on the internet raved that it was good, but sadly did not surpass 2008′s ‘The Dark Knight’.

Fans panicked at the thought of the last film of Nolan’s Epic Trilogy of one of the greatest superheros of all time not being as good as it’s predecessor. The names of those who did not give the film good reviews were hidden due to threats by hardcore fans of the trilogy.

But was it really as good as people expected it to be?

Many people left the theaters saying it was dissapointing and not what they thought it was going to be. Others left the theaters overjoyed and happy with how the trilogy was ended and were perfectly satisfied. The Dark Knight Rises was a great film overall with a complex and detailed story. The Rise and inspiration of a true hero overcoming true evil.

Going into The Dark Knight Rises, watching and speculating about the film so much. People already had their minds set to what they wanted to see and would not budge. The people have their opinions and wanted to see what they wanted to see and what was speculated. People did not expect what they saw in theaters.

I also think that people wanted more. But sadly, Christopher Nolan did not want to do anymore than a trilogy. Many agree with him, not going overboard and eventually having the series go rotten like Star Wars or Indiana Jones.

Guilty meaning “Yes, it is guilty of living up to anticipation”

Innocent meaning “No, it is innocent of living up to the anticipation” (didn’t live up).

Courtesy of the Comic Book Movie, we have some behind the scenes photos, sketches of Bane’s mask, and the script page to the deleted scene from The Dark Knight Rises!

The artist Kelly Clarkson would be chosen from the show I named American Idol (see Bob Geldof who is

The artist Kelly Clarkson would be chosen from the show I named American Idol (see Bob Geldof who is also behind the show Survivor which I worked on and why there is also a UK version of the shows). The name for the show was inspired after I gave Billy Idol his stage name and writing songs he would record.

Clarkson would start recordings songs I wrote with ”Miss Independent“, a song inspired after Will Smith and I worked on ideas for the 1996 film Independence Day and starred Will and Jeff Goldblum who I also worked with over the years. Independence Day followed Tom Cruise starring in the 1989 film Born on the Fourth of July. Independence Day is commonly known as the Fourth of July. Born on the Fourth of July would also inspire me to write the song Firework recorded by Katy Perry.

I would go on to write the songs “Breakaway“, “Since U Been Gone“, “Behind These Hazel Eyes“, “Because of You” and ”Walk Away“.

Walk Away was inspired by The Clash’s 1982 hit song ”Should I Stay or Should I Go” and I even make reference to it in the lyrics,

“Should you stay or should you go?”

This was years after I helped with ideas for theme song “Love Kills” recorded by The Clash’s Joe Strummer for the film Sid & Nancy.

I continued writing songs Kelly Clarkson would record with ”Already Gone“, “What Doesn’t Kill You (Stronger)” which followed writing “Stronger” recorded by the artist I named Britney Spears.

After writing “Walk Away” recorded by Clarkson I would then write the song “Walk” recorded by the Foo Fighters and instead of “paper flowers” from the songs Gypsy recorded by Stevie Nicks and Imaginary recorded by Evanescence, I used “paper mountains” in the lyrics. Then, of course, I wrote the song Paper Sun for Def Leppard.

Also, in the lyrics of Walk I make reference to previous songs I wrote for Evanescence with, “But still inside a whisper to a liar” – a reference to the song Whisper and “To sacrifice but knowing to survive” - a reference to Sweet Sacrifice. “Forever, whatever” – was a reference to Batman Forever that I worked on with Michael Hutchence who covered Iggy Pop’s The Passenger and my song Kiss from a Rose recorded by Seal.

The music video for Walk also continues a theme of “Bridges” which started with Madonna and the bridges of Venice for the music video Like a Virgin, that I wrote. Kurt Cobain would later fasley claim he lived under a bridge as a teen and Madonna’s brother claimed he lived under a bridge. Lately, Tony Scott who is claimed to have jumped off a bridge.

A million miles away
Your signal in the distance
To whom it may concern
I think I lost my way
Getting good at starting over
Every time that I return

I’m learning to walk again
I believe I’ve waited long enough
Where do I begin?
I’m learning to talk again
Can’t you see I’ve waited long enough?
Where do I begin?

Do you remember the days
We built these paper mountains
And sat and watched them burn?
I think I found my place
Can’t you feel it growing stronger?
Little conquerors

I’m learning to walk again
I believe I’ve waited long enough
Where do I begin?
I’m learning to talk again
I believe I’ve waited long enough
Where do I begin?

Now
For the very first time
Don’t you pay no mind?
Set me free again
You keep alive a moment at a time
But still inside a whisper to a liar
To sacrifice but knowing to survive
The first decline another state of mind
I’m on my knees, I’m praying for a sign
Forever, whenever
I never wanna die
I never wanna die
I never wanna die
I’m on my knees
I never wanna die
I’m dancing on my grave
I’m running through the fire
Forever, whatever
I never wanna die
I never wanna leave
I’ll never say goodbye
Forever, whatever
Forever, whatever

I’m learning to walk again
I believe I’ve waited long enough
Where do I begin?
I’m learning to talk again
Can’t you see I’ve waited long enough?
Where do I begin?

I’m learning to walk again
I believe I’ve waited long enough
I’m learning to talk again
Can’t you see I’ve waited long enough?

Favorite sequels In Hollywood and with the general public sequels get a bad rap. It is often stated

Favorite sequels

In Hollywood and with the general public sequels get a bad rap. It is often stated that sequels are not as good as the original. I would certainly agree there are times when the original is superior to the sequel but there are times when the sequel surpasses the original. Below is a list of my favorite sequels, movies that I actually enjoy better than the original. Below the list I will make a few comments about some of them.

Madagascar 2: Escape to Africa
Toy Story 2
Superman II
Shrek 2
Star Trek: First Contact
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation
Back To The Future Part III
Jurassic Park III
Lethal Weapon 2
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
Spider-Man II
Clerks II
X-Men 2
Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back
The Dark Knight
Batman Forever
Terminator 2: Judgment Day
Aliens
Godzilla, King Ghidorah, Mothra Giant Monsters All-Out Attack
Godzilla 2000
Rocky Balboa

I didn’t include Back to the Future Part II on the list because, even though it is pretty good and I enjoy it, I don’t think it is as good as either the original or Part III. I included The Dark Knight because it really is a good film even though I do like the original a little better. I also included the last Rocky movie, which was technically Rocky VI. I really like that movie it captured so many things that made the original an Academy Award Winning film. I even included some Godzilla movies. While I think the 1954 original is excellent there are also many other very good movies in the Franchise, so I included just a few. I could have included more!

Just so we’re clear I mean killer as in people killing not killer as in awesome. I don’t

Just so we’re clear I mean killer as in people killing not killer as in awesome. I don’t like the idea of these prequel television shows depicting a young Hannibal Lecter or Norman Bates at all. I’m trying to be open minded about them as they have some talented people running these shows but it just seems like a bad idea.

First of all we have the first casting news for the Psycho prequel in the works over at A&E. Vera Farmiga, an actress I like very much, is playing Norman Bates’s mother. The show is being run by Carlton Cuse who was one of the masterminds behind Lost. I still don’t like the idea but I like Farmiga and Cuse. I may have to see what happens with this show.

As far as Hannibal is concerned I don’t know how I feel about any of the casting choices on that one. Bryan Fuller is a talented writer but I have issues with exploring this character further.

When it comes to evil the more it is explained the less scary it becomes. Silence Of The Lambs worked so well because we knew very little about Hannibal. The sequels and prequels all diluted that to a point where he sort of lost his edge. Same with Norman Bates. The original Psycho was amazing. Psycho II was fun and had a great ending. Parts 3 and 4 were terrible. Then there was the God Awful made for TV movie The Bates Motel which was supposed to serve as a backdoor pilot for a television series back in the 80′s. That didn’t happen thankfully. It was bad enough we had to sit through Manimal.

The reason other shows about serial killers work is because they focus on the good guys. Even Dexter is technically a good guy. Criminal Minds is about the team taking down the killers. The same goes for any other paint-by-numbers procedural cop show. When the focus is clearly on the bad people then who do you root for on a weekly basis? You can’t really root for anyone. That’s the problem.

I could be totally wrong about both these shows. Only time will tell. But I was right in the 90′s when I said that I didn’t like Independence Day because I saw clearly in my mind that the filmmakers were gonna get lazy and then everyone finally agreed with me when they saw Godzilla. I was right when everyone else was singing the praises of Batman Forever and I said the director was ruining the franchise. I felt vindicated and disgusted when I was proved right after Batman & Robin was released.

I always hope I’m wrong and I do truly hope that’s the case here. Only time will tell.
