Seguramente el fenómeno en que se ha convertido Crepúsculo (Twilight) y lo que ya se espera como una larga lista de secuelas, alimentará muchos debates como estos. Las comunidades de fans de ambas historias ya se  alistan para lo que se prevé como la controversia de fin de año.  Así  que como toda buena plática de café, hay que empezar con una pregunta disparadora: ¿es mejor Harry Potter que Crepúsculo?

La respuesta – como casi cualquiera que tenga que ver con estos temas- es relativa. A los fans de uno y otro lado les parece que no hay nada comparable – de hecho: ¡por eso son fans!- mientras que para los detractores  de cada uno, son la peor porquería que han visto o leído.

Pero afortunadamente, todo debate supera la barrera ideológica y subjetiva gracias a los datos duros.  Y en esos términos, hoy por hoy  ambos fenómenos se pueden medir desde dos diferentes ámbitos: los libros y las películas.

En el caso de los libros, Harry Potter se anota un tanto. En la lista británica de los 100 libros que definen la década, el número uno se lo lleva el último libro de la Saga de Rowling: Harry Potter y las reliquias de la muerte (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows). El segundo lugar es para el libro de Barack Obama,Los sueños de mi padre ( Dreams from my father); y en tercero El Código Da Vinci de Dan Brown (Da Vinci Code).

Crepúsculo ( Twilight) no aparece en la lista hasta por ahí del número 32. Y en realidad de esta lista podríamos decir muchas cosas, ya que efectivamente no se trata de una evaluación literaria sino mercadológica.  Y la manera más lógica de intepretar el dato, es diciendo que  Harry Potter vendió más en su último libro que lo que lleva vendido Crepúsculo. ¿Pudiera ser entonces sólo cuestión de tiempo?

Pero en el caso del cine y la taquilla el triunfo se lo lleva Crepúsculo, empatando con ello la competencia. Luna Nueva ( New Moon)  establece un nuevo récord de apertura a la medianoche, con 26,27 millones dólares de 3.514 salas de cine sólo en Estados Unidos. Ello supera los estrenos de Harry Potter y el príncipe mestizo ($ 22,2 millones) y The Dark Knight ($ 18,4 millones).

Es claro que el enemigo a vencer no es ya Harry Potter sino Batman: un fenómeno de taquilla inusual y sorpendente. Y aquí tampoco el asunto tiene que ver con cuál película es mejor, porque no se basa en críticas cinematográficas, sino en dinero recaudado.

La pregunta que sugiere toda esta comparación es: ¿porqué se vende más un libro que una película? o a la inversa: ¿porqué un libro medianamente vendido se vuelve una adaptación cinematográfica tan exitosa?

Pero antes de responder eso hay que cerrar diciendo  que  Rowling tiene una mejor técnica literaria que Meyer. Es mejor escritora por decirlo así. Pero Meyer tiene muy bien medida su audiencia y es claro que la apuesta es hacia el cine, porque los adolescentes de ahora son más visuales.  Y no hay que olvidar que J.K Rowling está en la lista de las mujeres más ricas del mundo…. ¿Cómo ven entonces? ¿Empate técnico?

When Batman: The Dark Knight got voted up to the top spot on the IMDB list of top 250movies few took it as the movie actually was the best movie throughout time. Many saw it as the backlash of crowdsourcing. Instead of getting a fair rating the people that felt  Batman: The Dark Knight should be on top saw that the only option they had to get there movie up to the absolute top spot of the list wasn’t just voting high on there movie but also bashing the rating of the films currently in the top thus lowering the  total points for obtaining the otherwise elusive spot.

A web filled with material by all for all is great for availability although its a dread for reference checking. Its availability of information through the active seeking of corresponding views that worry me. When people go all out to alter information and rewrite history. All along they have there best intentions in mind I am in no way saying that its all malicious but even the benign person hurts the credibility of the web unless a 100% accuracy is achieved when claiming fact.

Its not the web that at fault, it works as it was first intended with a free exchange of ideas/opinions. It is the users that are miss using it and dumbing the web down instead of building our combined intelligence up.

CVG reports that Sony UK today confirms the rumoured 250gb PS3 Slim bundles to be true after all. For the handsome sum of £284.99, the PS3 Slims will have a staggered release depending on the specific bundle. October 1st will see packs containing either 2 Platinum titles are inFamous. 16th October will get an Uncharted 2 bundle and the 19th has a special Blu-Ray edition featuring Wolverine, Batman The Dark Knight and a remote. Japan have lucked out once again as an exclusive Final Fantasy XIII themed PS3 Slim comes out December 17th to celebrate the release of the game. With a white case rather than black and typically Final Fantasy motif of lead character Lightning, it’s bound to sell like Pokemon with it’s 41600 yen (around £283) price tag. And why wouldn’t it? It looks awesome!

Batman: ashes to ashes is a french indie film that focuses more on the birth of Harley Quinn. Aside from its gruesome storyline, Batman’s persona has been changed yet again. If you think that he was really grunting in The Dark Knight, wait till you see this. The scene transition is a work of art, probably the best one I’ve seen in years. This is batman with a more theatrical look. Kinda reminds me of inFAMOUS’s storytelling. It doesn’t really share the same storyline as the comic (not to mention their view of Batsy), but I assure you that this film is a must watch for Batfags everywhere.

و در ادامه درگیری پیش میاد و بتمن جوکر رو از بالای ساختمان پرت می کنه ولی خب بعدش دوباره می گیرتش و جوکر در حالیکه انکار چندان هم راضی نیست از نجاتش : تو نمی نستی بزاری من برم. نه ؟ این اتفاق وقتی میوفته که یه نیروی غیر قابل کنترل و یه هدف تغییر ناپذیر مقابل هم قرار می گیرن. تو واقعن درستکاری … مگه نه ؟ ها ؟ منو به خاطر اینکه چند لحظه اسیر خودبینی شدی نخاهی کست و من تو رو نمی کشم .. چون خیلی سرگرم کننده ای !! به گمونم سرنوشت اینه که منو تو تا ابد این کارو انجام بدیم. می دونی ما دو تایی باعث میشیم که نرخ جنون شهر دو برابر بشه …

بتمن : تو چی کار کردی ؟

جوکر : شوالیه سفید گاتهام رو گرفتم و اونو به اندازه ی خودمون پاییینش کشیدم. کار سختی نبود. می دونی که دیوونگی مثل جازبست … تنها چیزی که لازمه یه تکونه کوچوله –ه … !!

پ.ن1 : این یک پتیشن هستش در باره ی منشور کوروش. توصیه میشه دست کم بخونیدش.

پ.ن2 : خب بتمن فیلمی هستش که پیش از دیدنش گمون می کردم مثل باقی فیلم هایی که از comic strip  ها می سازن باید اکشن و خب ماجرایی و فانتزی باشه ولی در حقیقت این شکلی نبود. از نظر من بیشتر یه فیلم با محتوای فلسفی بود- نه اینکه اکشن و ماجرایی با اون اتفاق ها و انفجار های عجیب و غریب که شهرو نابود می کنه نبود ها- البته نمی دونم شاید من خیلی ذهن گرام چون وقتی با دوستام حرف می زدیم در این باره می گفتن که نه تو خیلی فیلمو جدی گرفتی … بتمن صرفن یه قهرمان مردمیه و جوکر یه روانی که عشق خون و مرگ و کشتن و نابودی داره و خب مسلمن تو این وضعیت متوجه خاهید شد که این میون چه کسی محبوب خاهد بود … آها درسته بتمن !!! شخصیت تاثیر گذار من جوکر بود. می تونیم بعدن دربارش بیشتر حرف بزنیم اگه دوس داشتین.

پ.ن3: از حدود 9 یا 10 فروردین بود که مامان و بابا اومدن اینجا و قرار شد با خاله اینا یه سفر کوچولو بریم که خب تا 13 به در هم ادامه داشت واسه همین نبودم که بخام به بلاگ سر بزنم. از جیا جان و سولماز خانم گل تشکر می کنم بابت لطفشون به خاطر فرستادن آهنگ هایی که می خاستم و بیان شرمندگی بابت دیر پاسخ دادن به ویژه سولماز خانم گل.

پ.ن4: خب همون طور که حتمن می دونید من نوروزو خیلی خوب آغاز کردم … خیلی خیلی خوب و خب الان هم واقعن راضیم و تا حالا که 15 روز از سال نو میگذره من احساس می کنم یکی از بهترین سال های زندگیمو دارم سپری می کنم. این سفر کوچولو به چادگان هم واقعن خوش گذشت. اونجا برف اومد و ما کلی برف بازی کردیم و من کلی آدمای اطرافمو شناختم و کلی خودمو شناختم و کلی کلیای دیگه. جالبه یکی از نگهبانا می گفت که اینجا بهد از محرم حتا بارونم نیومد چه برسه به برف ولی خب از شانس خوبه شما تا شما اومدین برفم اومد. واسه 13 به در هم کوچ کردیم دیاره خودمون و کلی کوه نوردی کردیم و کلی خوش گذشت.

پ.ن5: از شنبه یعنی فردا کلاس رنگ روغنم آغار میشه و من کلی استرس (با حرکت ضمه بروی سه ریزواژه ی الف و ت و ر) دارم و هنوز هیچی هم نخریدم و هیچ طرحی هم ندارم.

پ.ن6 : شاید دیگه نتونم اونقدرا بشینم پا فیلم دیدن چون دوباره باید درس مرسو برم تو کارش و یکم بگی نگی ناخوشم.

پ.ن 7 : با پوزش فراوان نمی دونم چرا یهو پست پیشین یعنی سینما پارادیزو کامل پاک شد با همه ی کامنت ها و من دوباره پست رو گذاشتم ولی خب کامنت ها به گمونم دیگه قابل برگشت نباشن. اگر شما راهی بلدین بگین تا کامنت ها رو برگردونم. بازم پوزش بسیار فراوان.

1. A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle–Already read it way back when.  Read it again, and it is fabulous.  Far better than Philip Pullman’s Golden Compass/His Dark Materials series.  I think I’m going to have some kids just so I can read it with/to them.  I have mixed feelings about the fact that it seems unfilmable (despite the existence of at least one cinematic attempt).  Disappointed, because more people would get to know L’Engle’s creation.  Kind of glad, though, because I can pretend it’s my little secret, despite the fact that it won the Newbery Medal, sold millions of copies, and is read in classrooms across America.  Also, check out this 3-d image of a 5-d tesseract (those of you in the know know):

2. A Wind in the Door by Madeleine L’Engle–So I’m hooked and also already read this one, too.  Three cheers for kything and farondalae!  But I have to wonder at the lack of tesseraction.

3. A Swiftly Tilting Planet by Madeleine L’Engle–Third in the series, it is in my sights this week.  For some reason, while the first two books are shelved in the children’s section at Durham Downtown Library, this one is in the Young Adult section.  I assume it must have frank, sexual discussion or a teenage angst-filled Charles Wallace.  (Holden Caulfield plus telepathy: a deadly cocktail.)  Maybe after I read all the Madeleine L’Engle that exists, I’ll return to Lloyd Alexander’s Prydain as well.

4. Great Lent by Alexander Schmemann–I think you’ve heard of it by now.  I couldn’t swear to having read a single page last week.

5. Batman: The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller–In my three years as a graduate student at Duke, I have only requested that Duke buy two books.  (You know Duke has some serious money, since this is an option, despite the fact that most books people want are at least available through Inter-Library Loan.)  And the two books are…<drum pum pum pum roll>…this one and Batman: The Killing Joke by Alan Moore, the two comics most responsible for the Heath Ledger version of the Joker in The Dark Knight.  At least I know that a collections librarian is one person on this earth who has no room to judge me for my nerdiness.  Then there’s the fact that I only thought about requesting that Duke buy it after my friend Dave successfully requested that Duke buy the second half of the third season of Entourage (which, I will admit, is a darn good show by that point in its run).

6. Helping People Forgive by David W. Augsburger–Haven’t started it yet, but the title sounds descriptive.  The readings for Acolatse’s Marriage and Family class are amazing this week.  Christian healing and forgiveness, non-violent communication of anger, getting the local church to start talking/dealing with sexual abuse.  Terrific articles.

7. Random stuff from Kant, specifically his discussion of virtue.

Truly I’m back from Spring Break.  And truly I am checked out even more than ever.  Addicted to graphic novels, children’s novels, and computer games from my childhood.  My friend Samara told me today that we have 5 weeks of classes left.  Let’s see, on my schedule that makes…15 days of classes left.  Not going to help me stay involved.  I just need to divert my energy toward constructivity around the house instead of toward my ancient English civilization (which is now building railroads in 400AD, while destroying the Aztec and American civilizations simultaneously).

And then there’s my Application for Holy Orders.  It’s less fun than it sounds.

• Lars and the real girl, Liten lustig rulle med Ryan Gosling som är lågmäld men charmig. Helt klart sevärd.
• Burn after reading, Tokrolig film med Brad Pitt, George Clooney bara för att nämna några. Helt klart sevärd.
• Ps. I love you, En charmig kärleksfilm med Gerard Butler och inte helt rätt för denna roll Hilary Swank. Gullig och sevärd.
• Half Nelson, Mörk men mänsklig och trots sitt mörker en väldigt sevärd rulle med Ryan Gosling.
• Öster om Eden, Ett för mig kärt återseende med James Dean. En mycket sevärd film regisserad av Elia Kazan
• The Notebook, En vacker kärleks saga som vi alla behöver titta på ibland. Också med Ryan Gosling och väldigt sevärd.
• Slumdog Millionaire, Suverän film med en hel drös välförtjänta Oscars i bagaget Väldigt sevärd.
• The Wrestler, En bra film för en mörk vinterdag, Sevärd men inget lyckopiller direkt.
• Batman the dark knight, Action, mörker, humor och Heath Ledger är fantastisk i sin sista filmroll. Helt klart sevärd.
• Things we lost in the fire, Vänskap, sorg, kärlek gör en väldigt sevärd film med Benicio Del Toro och Halle Berry.
• RocknRolla, En Guy Ritchie film som är precis som dom var innan kalkonrullen “Swept Away”. Bra och smart humor.Och så är ju läckerbiten Gerard Butler med i den. Klart sevärd.
• Dear Frankie, En otroligt fin kärlekshistoria på ett lågmält och vanligt sätt, med Gerard Butler och Emily Mortimer. Jag absolut älskar denna film.
• The Departed, Kan den bli något annat än bra egentligen med Jack Nicholson, Leonardo DiCaprio,Matt Damon, Ray Winstone och Martin Scorsese som regissör. Väldigt sevärd maffia rulle.
• Blood Diamond, Film om den smutsiga diamnt industrin som verkligen berör och får en att tänka både 1 och 2 gånger. Väldigt sevärd film som bara bekräftar att Leo DiCaprio har vuxit upp och ser ut som en man numera.
• The Revolutionary road, En bra film men lite av ett sömnpiler. Leo DiCaprio och Kate Winslet är väldigt bra men den var bättre i bokform.
• Body of lies, Nja inte någon favorit direkt. Leo DiCaprio och Russel Crowe är bra men jag hade väntat mig en bättre film.
• Milk, Bra film men lite långdragen. Och Sean Penn är lysande som Harvey Milk.

All in all, it was very good, but I’m going to give it a 3 and a half out of 5 stars, because it was almost too violent for me.
