Commençons par le commencement. Je t’ai présenté l’événement, voici le bilan:

Tout d’abord, le B-Girl France.

Alors, comme je te l’ai dit, j’ai pas pu être présent ce jour là, mais mon acolyte Zac, alias Valentin, y était. Donc, d’après ses impressions, il y avait du lourd niveau level féminin. Selon lui, du beau spectacle malgré un public endormi dans de beaux petits fauteuils trop confortables.

La gagnante: B-girl Manuella de Figure 2 Style. Elle remporte la victoire face à Mi-mouche; respect à Mi-mouche d’être arrivée en finale en partant des qualifications. Mi-Mouche qui mise tout sur l’originalité et la musicalité, et ça a payait. Manuella qui mettrait plus d’un mec à l’amende .

Au passage, on remarquera le très bon battle Manuella contre Soso, avec le petit kick discret de Soso , prenez en de la graine et troquez vos talons pour des baskets: Rejoignez les b-girls, on en manque!

Passons maintenant au B-Boy France, auquel j’ai assisté avec Hélène, Zac et Charlotte, sa soeur. Après mon kiff de l’année dernière, j’attendais vraiment cet événement. Bilan de cette édition:

Premier mot qui me vient à l’esprit: BOYCOTT !!  Ouais, c’est malheureux à dire, d’autant que c’est un évènement avec du potentiel. Je vais pas faire durer le suspens plus longtemps: Abdel de 59 Krew représentant Grande-Synthe (la ville organisatrice), eux mêmes organisateurs (dont son frère: Lascen) se retrouve une seconde fois en finale. Le public, composé à 75% de racailles-wallah et de poufs pucelles, participe honteusement à ce boycott. Des chauvins qui ne se manifestent que lorsqu’on aperçoit Abdel. Oui, je suis un peu agressif dans mes mots, mais c’est simplement parce que je suis déçu. Je me mettrais sûrement beaucoup de monde à dos en faisant ces accusations, mais le peu de b-boys présents dans le public le confirmera, de bons danseurs se sont fait éliminés alors qu’ils méritaient sûrement de monter plus haut. Et moi, je trouve cela dommage. Oui, n’y voyait là aucune haine ou jalousie, juste de la déception…

Pour parler des événements positifs qui ont relevé le niveau:

• Le vainqueur: Keyz de Original South King, qui à fait un bon battle.
• Deux passages parfaits de Meda, même si ce battle fut le parfait exemple du boycott, mais bon, on retiendra quand même sa performance.

Et enfin, mes coups de coeur:

• Une excellente prestation de Bob de Zygomatik. Je l’ai découvert, mais franchement j’ai super bien kiffé, au même titre qu’Hélène. Musical, original, énergique, rien à dire. J’adore .

• Un superbe show du Wanted posse, Babyson et Junior. C’était pas prévu dans les guests mais très agréable surprise. Deux très bons danseurs qui ont fait un beau mélange de break et de new style. Personnellement, je vous le recommande .

Voilà, l’essentiel est dit. Toutes les vidéos des battles et des shows sont en lignes sur le blog, et ça c’est toujours spécialement pour toi petit lecteur, merci qui? .

Todd M: Panther versus Jet — This week’s pitched battle to the death pits two of America’s most notorious gangs against each other. On the one hand, the Panthers tried to avenge centuries of injustice with militant acts against the perceived racist institutions of their time. On the other hand, the Jets snapped their fingers and pranced around. Can the Panther’s weaponry overcome the Jet’s choreography? Unfortunately not this week: when you’re a Jet you’re a Jet all the way. Jet over Panther.

So the much talked about battle didn’t go down as planned… it seems there was some trouble getting the event organized in time but Jin just dropped a message to let everyone know he’s still down but it’s on Grind Time to get it set up.

Bernard Cornwell’s name is fitting, because it begins with a B, and his books are built around the three B’s: Bitches, Beer, and Battle. If we dare be more callous, we can easily translate this triad to reflect Cornwell’s surname, thus rendered: Cunts, Cups, and Combat. Obviously, Cornwell writes books for men, and suffice to say that if I saw a woman reading a Sharpe novel, I’d call her an impostor and a spy – unless she were a lesbian orc. Except, that would be even more suspicious.

Now shut your face and read one of Cornwell’s books before you disdain my sexual profiling; mighty fast you’ll see what I’m talking about. His fantastic storytelling abilities may win over some lesbian orcs, but at heart his novels are about killing and fucking, and these two activities are done by men to men and men to women, respectively; and consequently, I have no doubts that the novels will appeal primarily to dudes. At first blush this may seem prejudicial, but on sober reflection it becomes apparent that Cornwell’s work is the ineluctable male counterpart of chick lit – dick lit, if you will.

I’ll remind you again to fuck off before you, in your wellspring of infinite tolerance, rage against my obscenity. The Pale Horseman, the second book of the Saxon Stories, kicks off with the protagonist riding away from a bloody victory on the battlefield to “plough” his wife, whom he insists is “a good field to plough.” I’ll tell you right now, there’s a lot of plowing in Cornwell’s books, and he doesn’t write about farmers – except to say that their fields will be fertilized by the enemy’s blood. Whether or not Cornwell intends to, he glorifies this shit, and despite the fact that war and sexual subjugation are unqualifiedly wrong, Cornwell is such a damned good storyteller that, in the heat of the read, it becomes near impossible to resist the Hobbesian heteronormative imperative and get swept away in a torrent of the three B’s and/or C’s.

Wut?

But despite the iniquity of Cornwell’s worlds – which, we should not forget, are historical, rather than purely fictive, worlds – his books give me great satisfaction. They’re entertainment – entertainment well done, I should add – and they need to be approached with all the enlightenment of the modern age to prevent oneself from becoming a beast through the consumption of their delights.

So take this as both warning and laudation. Whatever desires they might stir in my primal heart, I know that Cornwell’s heroes – who are killers and adulterers all – are bad men, and I caution you to remember that. But if you want a read that will keep you on the edge of your seat and fill you from top to bottom with murderous, rapacious, and unshakeable passion, pick up a Cornwell. And pick one up for me, too, because I’m nearly done Enemy of God.

During my Words and Images class today, we viewed the film adaption of the manga Battle Royale, written by Koushun Takami.

The movie depicts a dystopian future in which classes are selected by lottery to participate in a game. The children are supplied with food, water, and a weapon, ranging from a paper fan to an automatic machine gun, and told to kill each other. Only one survivor will remain in the end, and if nobody is killed, everyone will be killed by the detonation of a metal collar around their neck. 

Quite honestly, it was one of the most disturbing movies I have ever seen. I’m not sure why anyone would think to make a comic about this situation, let alone adapting it to a film. Thankfully, the blood and gore was far from realistic, making it very easy to distance yourself from the suffering the characters experience, but I still could not shake the overall feeling of injustice at the entire situation. The ending, while slightly romantic, leaves us with the realization that while this couple did “beat the game” by managing to escape the island together, every single one of their other classmates was brutally murdered. 

One reason this movie really struck a chord with me is the fact that I have been recently researching the politics of the G20 Summit meetings and the recent talk of a New World Order that politicians are referring to more and more often. Battle Royale clearly demonstrates the way a government can exercise absolute power over its citizens when it has an alternative agenda to the citizens’ interests. To imagine that such levels of control could be on their way for our society is absolutely horrifying.

It is interesting to think about the fact that Americans are so unaware of the way the world is run these days. After watching a few documentaries, I have realized that, at the very least, these issues demand attention. Without the awakening of many citizens to the tyranny of those in control, our grandchildren could be experiencing events just as dehumanizing as Battle Royale.

Tomorrow I’m heading home to the Poconos for Thanksgiving break. Tonight was an interesting night… I spent my night class watching the Japanese video adaptation of the manga Battle Royale, a vision of a dystopian future where children are selected and placed on a deserted island and told to kill each other. They are told that only one survivor will remain in the end. Within the first 10 minutes, the movie turns into a constant death match, intertwined with poorly translated subtitles. 

After class, I returned home and spent some time watching a few of Alex Jones’ documentaries on the possible changes going on in the political world today. In terms of the band, it reminded me of a song we had started during our last time playing together. After explaining how surreal the events of the G20 Summit were for me here in Pittsburgh, Peewee immediately began writing. I was impressed by how quickly he got his ideas flowing, especially because I hadn’t even considered writing a song on my feelings about the entire situation. 

Now that we are really beginning to flesh out our entire message, I am realizing that we are really part of the resistance to dehumanization that the corporate world is attempting right now. Alex Jones outlines their methods in a few documentaries, all available on youtube for free. Our message is about the intrinsic value each of us holds as a unique human being. The time has come to stand up for our freedoms and insist that the government works for the people, not the other way around.

Nowadays the competition between the LCD and Plasma TVs is really tougher than ever. Because of this, manufacturers of the two technologies have done great improvements on both. Contrast ratio of Plasma TVs is 3000:1, while the contrast ratio of LCD TVs is 1000:1. Clearly, Plasma televisions produce higher quality images.

Regardless of whichever has higher quality, versatility is still important. In this aspect, the liquid crystal display televisions are better than the Plasma televisions. The LCD TVs have more numbers of ports for different connections, they are also easier to install compared to the Plasma televisions. This means that the Liquid Crystal Display TVs could be used in more ways and purposes compared to the Plasma TVs.

If you need a bigger television, something bigger than 42 inches, go for a Plasma sine they are cheaper than the Liquid Crystal Display TVs. A 42 inch Plasma could cost you less than a thousand dollars, while a 42 inch LCD television could cost you more than a thousand and 300 dollars. However, for mid sized ones, LCD TVs cost much lesser than the Plasma TVs.

It would really just matter on how much your budget will be. After all, it will actually depend on the capability of your financial status. Henry Lyatsky is a man on a mission.

The Calgary-based oil industry consultant is on a one-man campaign to lift the moratorium on offshore oil drilling on Canada?s West Coast.

While his message gets a sympathetic ear in his hometown, the centre of Canada?s oil industry, his mission is more of an uphill battle in British Columbia.

At stake are 9.8 billion barrels of oil ? enough to supply all of Canada?s domestic needs for four years ? and one of the most picturesque and rugged seascapes in the world. The oil is concentrated in the Queen Charlotte basin between northern Vancouver Island and Haida Gwaii, also known as the Queen Charlotte Islands.

Along with an estimated 40 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, it could exceed Newfoundland?s offshore reserves. Both Chevron and Royal Dutch Shell drilled test wells in the area before the ban was imposed but have not released their results.

Standing in the way is the moratorium on tanker traffic B.C. imposed in 1971 and the ban on exploration Ottawa imposed a year later. Provincial efforts in the 1980s to lift the federal ban foundered in 1989 along with the Exxon Valdez, which spilled 40 million litres of crude oil off the coast of Alaska.

In a commentary in the Oil and Gas Journal, Lyatsky argues the majority of residents in B.C. want the jobs and wealth that would come from development, but they have been drowned out by environmentalists.

?The revenues are huge for the province,? Lyatsky told CBC News. ?Look at Newfoundland: They got rich off of offshore oil and look at the number of jobs that get created.?

Oonagh O?Connor of the Living Oceans Society takes issue with that.

?It has to be a very silent majority,? she said, given that thousands of people took part in federal hearings from 2003 to 2004 on whether to lift the moratorium and 75 per cent supported keeping it in place. All of the First Nations representatives who took part also opposed lifting the ban.

Still, in a province where the forestry industry is struggling, the unemployment rate is 8.3 per cent, and the provincial government raised $2.66 billion on the sale of onshore oil and gas exploration rights in 2008, the argument is getting some traction.

Offshore fields are much bigger, as are the resulting royalties to governments.

?The public seems to be on side, but the support for exploration is diffuse around the province,? Lyatsky said. ?The opposition to exploration is in the minority but it?s concentrated, it?s vocal, and it?s committed, so it?s very forceful. What we need to do is to energize our own supporters, who are many, and simply overcome that opposition by the weight of democratic numbers.?

Blair Lekstrom, B.C.’s minister of energy, agrees with Lyatsky that the silent majority in B.C. supports lifting the moratorium. Lekstrom’s government wants exploration to proceed but, he adds, “unless it can be done in an environmentally responsible and scientifically sound manner, then we wouldn’t proceed.”

Work with Ottawa is continuing, but “the reality is, this really is in the federal hands,” Lekstrom said, adding “there is a challenge at this point,” an apparent reference to the Conservative minority government’s unwillingness to risk swing ridings in the province.

The federal department told CBC News it has no plans to lift the ban at this time.

Lyatsky wants the oil industry ? investors, companies, professional associations and consultants ? to mobilize opinion.

His timing might be problematic.

An earthquake measuring 6.6 shook the southern tip of Haida Gwaii on Nov. 17.

And on the other side of the Pacific, Australia recently set up a commission to investigate the country?s third-worst oil spill, when as much as 30,000 barrels leaked into the Timor Sea off the country?s northwestern coast. The spill was the first accident among 1,500 wells drilled in Australian waters since 1984, but it continued from Aug. 21 to Nov. 3 and was marked by a fire that burned for two days, destroying the rig.

That?s troubling for O?Connor, especially from her perspective from the Living Oceans Society?s headquarters in the tiny fishing village of Sointula on the northern end of Vancouver Island.

?When the moratorium was put in place in 1972, it was done so because of concerns about the environment,? she said. ?Now we know way more about the impacts of the offshore oil-and-gas industry on the environment. We know that despite modern technology, spills continue to happen.?

Lyatsky says all the objections to offshore drilling are overrated and have been already been answered through extensive experience elsewhere in the world.

O?Connor doubts that.

?When you live here,? she said, ?and you depend on the coast, these concerns aren?t overrated. They are really important.?

Lyatsky believes his view will prevail.

?I would say it?s in our own hands,” he said. “The chances are pretty good if we make the effort to push things forward. Nothing will happen if we do nothing. It can be done. I?m certain it can be done.?

Ich habe gestern einfach auf dem Bett gelegen und das ganze Album gehört, ich wollte durch nichts anderes abgelenkt sein, wenn ich es zum ersten Mal höre.
Hier meine Gedanken dazu:
John Mayer hat auf diesem Album das erste Mal richtig mit seiner Stimme experimentiert. Es wurde ziemlich viel bearbeitet, sodass er zum Beispiel seine eigenen Backgroundvocals eingesungen hat oder man ab und zu einen verstärkten Hall in seiner Stimme hört. Mit 15 fand ich diesen Hall in der Stimme super, aber meine Prioritäten haben sich ein wenig geändert.
Aber zum Glück hat er das nicht in jedem Lied durchgezogen – ich schätze mal dadurch, dass er das Album mitproduziert hat und er wahrscheinlich ein Spielekind ist, haben ihn die ganzen Möglichkeiten so begeistert, dass er so viele wie möglich einbauen wollte…
Da geht natürlich seine Individualität verloren. Kein Song ist dabei, indem man einfach seine Stimme und eine Gitarre hört, das was ich eben so an ihm geschätzt habe – da passt dann nämlich alles zusammen, gigantische Texte mit musikalischer Untermalung. Aber das ist ja nur mein persönlicher Geschmack. Und trotzdem hat er es geschafft auch dieses Mal wieder wunderschöne Melodien zu kreieren, teilweise sehr massig, es ist jedenfalls kein locker-leichtes Album, weder von den Texten her, noch von der Musik.
Sein Schreibtalent hat mich zum Glück nicht enttäuscht, er hat sehr gute Texte dabei, z.B. „War of my Life“ oder „Assassin“. Auf jeden Fall merkt man, dass er sich sehr angreifbar gemacht hat – die Texte handeln von äußerst privaten Ängsten und Sorgen. Das ist mutig und dadurch ist es ein sehr ehrliches und intimes Album geworden, das Tiefe aufweist.
