By Jose Bautista Contributing Writer Ladies and gentlemen, your 2009 Major League Baseball World Ser

By Jose Bautista
Contributing Writer

Ladies and gentlemen, your 2009 Major League Baseball World Series match up is now set.

After weeks of exciting postseason baseball, the National and American League finalist teams have been determined.

From the National League you have the 2008 defending World Champion Philadelphia Phillies.

The American League has the most historically rich team in the history of the sport, the New York Yankees.

Both teams took rather easy roads to get to this final match up, losing only three games combined all postseason.

The Phillies made quick work of the Colorado Rockies in the Divisional round and slugged through Los Angeles Dodgers pitching in the National League Championship Series.

The Yankees swept the Minnesota Twins in the Divisional Round, and then dismantled the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Led by one of the marquee Yankee acquisitions this summer, C.C. Sabathia, and the otherworldly hitting of third baseman Alex Rodriguez, who seems to have put his previous postseason woes behind him, the Yankees are set in their quest for the elusive 27th championship banner in the Bronx. The Yankees last made it to the World Series in 2003, where they were defeated in six games by the Florida Marlins.

The Phillies are anchored by first baseman Ryan Howard, who like Rodriguez has been on a torrid hitting streak. Midseason acquisition Cliff Lee is the clear-cut number one starter since Cole Hamels has had his share of troubles this year.

For the postseason, Rodriguez is batting .407 with five home runs and 11 runs batted in. Four of those home runs were to either tie the game or put the Yanks ahead.

Howard, who won the National League Championship Series Most Valuable Player award after defeating Los Angeles, is batting .355 with two home runs, fourteen runs batted in, and even a triple. For a 6-foot-5-inch guy weighing 255 pounds, he’s doing things this postseason he rarely does.

Both have passed Lou Gehrig’s mark of having batted in at least one run in eight straight postseason games.

While the match up should be interesting, entertaining and evenly matched for both teams, I feel that the Yankees will emerge victorious from this World Series in six games.

The Yankees and Phillies both have superb pitching and hitting.

While one could say that the Phillies have the experience since they won last year and there are quite a few Yankees who have never been to a World Series, I believe that the Yankees have the edge this time around.

The Yankees have home-field advantage, and even though the Phillies don’t need home-field advantage to win a series as evidenced this year and last, the World Series is different from any other postseason series.

For far too long Rodriguez has been the scapegoat for the Yankees’ recent postseason failures. He is now the new “Mr. October,” and I believe he will continue this into November after all is said and done. He has been a gigantic part of the Yankees’ success this season, helping out second year manager Joe Girardi after missing out on the playoffs last year for the first time since 1993.

Brad Lidge, the all star closer for the Phillies, has been perfect this postseason, but even he has to admit he hasn’t faced a lineup that’s as scary as his team’s in the playoffs.

With postseason legends Jorge Posada, Mariano Rivera and Derek Jeter all on top of their game at the moment, I don’t see how the Phillies can counter for four games.

The World Series is the New York Yankees’ to lose.

NC Pastor to Burn Bibles

The title says it all…or does it?

Holding a “sin-burning” (as some would call it) is nothing new. However a Bible is the last thing you would expect to see thrown in the fire! Nevertheless, as crazy as it sounds that is exactly what one North Carolina church is doing.

The church also plans to burn religious books by such eminent authors as Billy Graham, Rick Warren, John McArthur, James Dobson, Charles Swindoll, John Piper, Chuck Colson, Tony Evans, Oral Roberts, Jimmy Swagart, Franklin Graham , Bill Bright, Tim Lahaye, T.D. Jakes, Benny Hinn, Joyce Myers, Robert Schuller, Mother Teresa , and The Pope!

Tapes and CDs which contain what the pastor considers ungodly music are also on the list.

Needless to say it has sparked a firestorm of controversy. In fact the church’s website was down for some time, perhaps after being overwhelmed by visitors. But can it really be as bad as it sounds? After all, they don’t plan to burn every kind of Bible… just everything that is not the King James. Versions like the NIV, ASV, NASB, etc.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t burn Bibles of any kind. But I kind of feel bad for the poor old boy… He is trying to draw attention to the issue of Bible versions… a fact that the media glosses over with ease.

What if, next Sunday morning you attended a church where the preacher stood up and, reading from “the Bible” said, “You SON OF A BITCH?“ Well that’s exactly what he would say if he was reading from one of the first editions of the Living Bible.

In 1Samuel 20:30 the King James Version reads: “Thou son of the perverse rebellious woman…” But Kenneth Taylor’s Living Bible says, “…You son of a bitch…”

Being a Christian, I hate to even type that out but that’s exactly what it says. The editors of that version have since changed the wording because of complaints, but I kid you not, that is exactly what the Living Bible says.

Knowing that, would you still fault him for burning a Living Bible?

I’m not trying to defend Mr. Grizzard’s publicity stunt (which is all this amounts to). If I was the host of such an event I certainly wouldn’t give an interview to a reporter in my overalls like this Pastor did! I do wish he would have spell checked his flier at least before he sent it out, its littered with misspelled words.

Nevertheless, Christians should be alerted to the issue of Bible versions.

Take the NIV for instance, if you’re an avid reader, you must have noticed that it removes entire verses in some places.

Also in John 1:1 the King James Bible says, “…the Word was God.” Those of you familiar with the Bible know that “the Word” is a reference to Jesus.

The deity of Christ (Jesus being God in the flesh) is one of the most basic Bible doctrines. But the New World Translation says,”…the Word was a God.” Thus the NWT, a ‘translation’ put out by the Jehovah Witnesses, denies the deity of Christ.

There are many other examples I could list but time fails me. I simply want to say that this man who has been slaughtered by the media, might have his heart in the right place even if his methods are questionable.

WWJD?

Again, I wouldn’t do it myself; but when we ask WWJD, let’s not forget we’re talking about the same Jesus who, when He saw the commercialism in the Temple, “…made a scourge of small cords…” and then “…drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers’ money, and overthrew the tables; And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father’s house an house of merchandise.” (John 2:15-16)

Leave your thoughts and comments.

Public contract disputes, insider information and brawls: It’s all a part of the sports world these days.

Athletes today are getting away with murder. Literally.

Even worse, the law seems to either be too lenient or too extreme in making examples out of these super entertainers.

Take the case of Donte Stallworth, who happens to be a prime example. On March 14 of this year, the Cleveland Browns receiver hit and killed a man with his car in Miami.

Stallworth, legally drunk at the time of the accident, pled guilty to DUI and manslaughter charges. He was given only 30 days in jail, and served 24 out of the assigned time.

The harshest punishment given to him was not even the jail time, but having his license suspended for the rest of his life.

Probation, community service, none of that cuts it in this case. There was public outrage, and deservedly so, over the time given to Stallworth. He is currently serving a season-long suspension from the NFL.

Michael Vick, on the other hand, served close to two years for his federal dog fighting charges. Regardless of how many of you are dog owners and lovers, there is a legitimate problem with the justice system when comparing these two cases.

Be famous and kill a human while drunk: 30 days in the clink is fine.

Kill some dogs: your career is threatened, and you’re done in the eyes of everyone.

Both athletes are obviously wrong in their actions. I’d just like some rational punishment to be handed out in accordance with the crimes.

LeGarrette Blount’s case is another one full of ridiculous reasoning.

The University of Oregon’s star running back in his senior year was involved in a post-game altercation with a Boise State player.

Moments after the win over Oregon, Boise State defensive end Byron Hout taunted Blount and proceeded to tap him on the shoulder. What occurred next would be played repeatedly on ESPN and debated all over the sports world.

Enraged, and probably embarrassed, Blount punched Hout in the mouth and proceeded to confront Boise State fans, coming into close contact with them while being restrained and led to the locker room. He later apologized publicly for his behavior.

The next day, Blount was suspended for the remainder of the 2009 season by head coach of the Oregon Ducks, Chip Kelly.

Last week, the Oregon Daily Emerald, the school newspaper of the Oregon Ducks, published an apology letter from Blount that led to his now possible reinstatement later this season.

I am completely against reinstating Blount, but not for punching the Boise State player. Right or wrong, I actually found the punch to be hilarious. Hout asked for it, as barbaric as the behavior was on both sides. Any time someone is provoked, it’s only a matter of time before you get what you were looking for.

However, Blount’s reaction to the booing and taunting from fans was unacceptable.

Any time fans are endangered by an athlete maliciously and purposely, action must be taken swiftly. This is exactly what the Oregon program did.

For them to now waffle on their decision and flip-flop on the hammer they brought down sends the wrong message in sports once again: Do what you want. Just apologize for it later in the paper. All will be “fixed” eventually.

This incident has ties to the Indiana Pacers and Detroit Pistons “Malice at the Palace” of 2004, arguably the nastiest brawl in sports history.

Both NBA teams embarrassed the sport, not because of the bickering that led to the brawl, but because the fans, while behaving inappropriately, were endangered.

The Pacers’ Ron Artest, Jermaine O’Neal and Stephen Jackson, along with Pistons forward Ben Wallace, were suspended for numerous games depending on their involvement.

Artest, the fire starter behind the incident, caught the worst of it all, missing 73 games and losing out on close to $7 million in salary.

People fail to realize that this is assault and battery.

What Blount did, along with the players involved with the Detroit Palace brawl, was physically harm another person.

You would think athletes would learn their lesson from the recent string of criminal charges brought against their peers. Nope, not at all. Instead, they just find new ways to get in trouble.

Athletes need to be held accountable for their actions. This means all athletes, not just some.

Any crime that involves harm to another living creature — whether it’s a fan, another player or even the Taco Bell dog — needs to be taken seriously. Those involved need to be punished fairly and correctly.

If we do not accomplish this soon and show athletes that they are in the national moral spotlight, we’re just teaching future athletes that it’s all right to behave in any manner you choose.

As long as you’re famous and have money, any punishment you receive is just a slap on the wrist compared to what us “normal” people would have to go through.

By Jose Bautista Contributing Writer It’s safe to assume that certain topics are taboo or controvers

By Jose Bautista
Contributing Writer

It’s safe to assume that certain topics are taboo or controversial here at Palm Beach Atlantic University: marijuana, gay marriage, war, the economy.

There is a new club hoping to put an end to that state of mind at our school.

The Agora Club, formerly known as St. Aquinas Club, is led by students who want to raise awareness of certain topics, whether the consensus is negative or positive. The club focuses on controversial topics to promote a thought process reflective of paradoxical situations.

According to Dr. Roger Chapman, assistant professor in the School of Arts and Sciences and faculty sponsor for the club, it was better to come up with a different name for the club in order to eliminate confusion since the name St. Aquinas is already being used on campus.

Led by Junior Ricardo Aguilar, an international business major, the club aims to spark interest in students and allow them to form their own opinions, and possibly change them after all is said and done.

Along with Aguilar, other members include Secretary Ashley Albert, Treasurer John Warner, Chaplain Kaci Costello and Marketer Jasmin Tucker.

“I came up with the idea after attending one of Professor Ladd’s Global Events Forum Discussions on the economic crisis,” Aguilar said of the club’s founding. “Needless to say, the discussion that night turned into a heated one and the light bulb went off about controversial topics and its affect on students involved.”

Aguilar feels there are so many things going on with the world right now, it isn’t fair to ignore them for being controversial.

“Our aim isn’t to create debate, so to speak. It’s more of an awareness club, because there’s a lot going on, and many students at school are almost in a bubble,” Aguilar said. “They have an opinion usually based on what pop culture tells us or what we grew up being told. The club is going to give those very same students a chance to change what they believe for the better because they’ll be informed.”

The club feels that handling controversial topics and not running from them will have a positive impact on the mind-set of students.

Chapman agrees saying “It is always a pleasure to hear people discuss current events and issues. Anything that dispels apathy is a good thing. This kind of thing is living out the First Amendment (free speech, right to assembly, etc.), which is really a lot of what America is all about.”

“Our intention behind the Agora club is to instigate discussion,” Costello said. “Oftentimes we go about our daily activities without considering the various issues which affect not only our small city but nations around the world.”

According to Costello, one of the main goals in hosting these discussions is so that students leave with an awareness, if not a better understanding, of multiple view points. The club is expecting a healthy amount of backlash and lack of support from some.

“I anticipate healthy criticism from faculty and administrators,” Aguilar said. “I would like to go ahead and invite not only faculty members, but also those who may feel a little uncomfortable with our topics.”

The Agora club does not promote one side or the other; they just want to raise awareness about important topics that they feel should be brought up.

“Ideally, the Agora should be a part of the PBA experience,” Chapman said.

And so ends another season... Fun fact: On the final day of last season, Vernon Wells went 4-for-4 w

And so ends another season...

Fun fact: On the final day of last season, Vernon Wells went 4-for-4 with two homers to finish at exactly .300 with 20 home runs. Entering today’s season closer at .262 with 16 bombs, he needed to go 34-for-34 with four homers to match his 2008 totals. It didn’t happen. In fact, Wells went 0-for-5 and was pulled in extras, possibly to protect his .260 average (though I didn’t see the game and can’t confirm that). The Jays lost 5-4 in 11 to the Orioles, finishing the season at 75-87.

Jose Bautista, Edwin Encarnacion and John McDonald all homered for Toronto, but a pair of Brandon League throwing errors in the 11th allowed Baltimore to walk off with the win, their eighth in nine games against the Jays at Camden Yards this season. Johnny Mac’s homer, by the way, was his fourth of the season, equaling a career-high.

Well, that does it for another mind-numbing season of Blue Jays baseball. The hot streak to finish the year was kind of dampened by a sweep at the hands of the AL-worst Orioles, but who really cared at this point?

Long-awaited playoff baseball comes later this week, though one score is yet to be settled: The Tigers and Twins both won today, leaving them with identical 86-76 records atop the AL Central. You know what that means! The teams meet Tuesday at the Metrodome to settle the division and the last spot in the playoffs, with Detroit’s Rick Porcello (14-9, 4.04) meeting Minnesota’s Scott Baker (15-9, 4.36) on the hill. Let’s see what happens!

Take that, fatty

With the joy I felt when Roy Halladay plunked David Ortiz in the second inning tonight, I had a realization: I hate the Boston Red Sox as much, if not more, than the New York Yankees.

I despise Kevin Youkilis. I respect Dustin Pedroia no more than I do his child-molesting brother, Brett. Ortiz is as much of a cheater as his former teammate Manny Ramirez, who was the only reason I didn’t detest the Red Sox to begin with. Then, of course, Man-Ram left town and we all found out he was on the juice. I’m a bit too emotional to make a decision at the moment, but in coming days I’ll do a full investigation into which team I hate more — the Sox or Yankees.

Hating Boston was a lot of fun tonight, as the Jays wrapped up a sweep at Fenway and won their sixth game in a row and ninth in ten, 12-0 behind Roy Halladay’s second consecutive shutout. Again, if this was Doc’s finale in a Jays uniform, he went just the way you’d expect him to. With the back-t0-back shutouts to close out the season, Halladay finishes 2009 at 17-10 with a 2.79 ERA in 239 innings pitched.

Adam Lind, who homered three times last night before getting plunked by a Jonathan Papelbon fastball in the ninth, was out of the lineup. That, of course, was why Doc went after Ortiz, drilling him with a high inside fastball on the first pitch of the second inning. Well done — very, very well done. Halladay then went on to strike out Big Papi his remaining three at-bats.

The Jays did just fine, by the way, without Lind — they homered four more times, including a pair by Randy Ruiz and one each by Lyle Overbay and Jose Bautista. Bautista’s was his fourth in five games and his eighth in September, while Ruiz’s pair gave him nine in 102 at-bats since his call-up in mid-August. Can we get this guy a starting job next season?

It’s a bit sad the Jays saved their best baseball (with all due respect to April and the first half of May) for the last two weeks of the season, but I’ll take it nonetheless. They head to Baltimore to finish the season with three against an Orioles team that has dropped 13 straight, with David Purcey and Jason Berken going in the opener Friday.

In case you hadn’t figured out in the first 157 games, Adam Lind is legit. Lind went deep three times at Fenway tonight, missing a shot at tying the major league record of four when Jonathan Papelpon pussied out and plunked him with two outs in the ninth. Jose Bautista, Aaron Hill and Kevin Millar also added homers and the Jays withstood a shaky bottom of the eighth to win 8-7 — their eighth win in nine games.

Back to Lind: He showed signs of coming into his own after being called up after John Gibbons’ firing last June, but I don’t think anyone expected the barrage he’s put up in 2009. After picking up four hits and six RBIs on Opening Day, Lind never looked back. With four games to go, he’s hit 35 home runs (one short of Hill’s team lead) and driven in a team-high 114 runs. Now, if only Cito Gaston would consider starting him against lefties next season…(or better yet, if only Cito were fired following this season.)

Ricky Romero finally picked up a win against Boston in what was likely his last start of the season, running his record to 13-9. Coming in 0-3 with an 8.83 ERA agains the Red Sox, Romero went five innings and gave up two runs. Shawn Camp gave up five runs (though one was inherited from Jesse Carlson) in the eighth but Jason Frasor closed it out in the ninth for his 11th save.

Is it just me, or is it starting to feel like April and May again? The Jays won their seventh in eight games last night, beating the Red Sox 11-5 in seven innings at a wet Fenway Park. Toronto pounded a few Boston pitchers that you’ll likely never see pitch in a game between April and August (and never in October), scoring at least twice in four of the first five innings to put it away early.

Scott Richmond gave up four runs (on three homers) in six innings to win for the second straight outing, running his record to 8-10. The Jays hit three homers of their own, as Aaron Hill, Rod Barajas and Jose Bautista all went deep. Bautista’s was his ninth of the season and sixth this month.

The win was the Jays’ first at Fenway this season, meaning it couldn’t possibly be May. Boston, of course, was the cite of the first three of Toronto’s nine-game losing streak that started May 19 and pretty much ended any hope of this season being anything. The Jays were also swept at Fenway in late-August.

Ricky Romero and Clay Buchholz go in the second game of the set tonight.

Palm Beach Atlantic University’s volleyball team is full of ambition this year and plans to do some amazing things.

The team, which had a 10-21 record last season, feels it has improved in certain areas and that those improvements can pay off tremendously for them.

“I think that this team, if we push ourselves everyday in practice and believe, can win a National Championship,” said sophomore setter Jessica Way.

Cassady Faircloth / Contributing Photographer

The team has started 4-4 this season, and is almost halfway to last year’s win total already.

“The high point of the season has been winning three of the four games we played at the Nova tournament to start our season,” said senior Jennifter Eldridge. “We played so well as a team and were able to dominate most of our opponents.”

Youth is a big theme this season, and with reason.

This season’s squad is a young one, with five freshmen, seven sophomores, two juniors and Eldridge as the team’s only senior.

“Some people say that our weakness is having such a young team, but I think we will prove them otherwise,” said Way of the team’s inexperience.

Freshman Kristina Harter finds many strengths in this year’s group.

“We have a very strong serving team,” said Harter. “Volleyball is a mental game, so having a supportive team is crucial and I would say that’s a definite strength. We’re all competitive , but it’s a friendly competetive.”

Ruth. Gehrig. DiMaggio. Mantle. Jackson. Jeter. Cervelli. Add another name to the list of all-time Yankee greats. Francisco Cervelli took his turn winning a game on a walk-off for New York last night, singling through a drawn-in infield with one out in the ninth to give the Yankees a 5-4 win and a split of the two-game series. The walk-off was New York’s 219th such win this season.

The Jays should’ve had this one — they took a 4-2 lead to the eighth before Scott Downs coughed up a two-run homer to Jay killer Hideki Matsui. Jason Frasor did the honours in the ninth, giving up a leadoff hit to Brett Gardner, who then stole second and went to third on Derek Jeter’s ground ball before scoring on Cervelli’s single.

Vernon Wells had two hits for Toronto, running his current streak to 19-for-38 and bumping his average to .264. All-Star again! Marco Scutaro, Lyle Overbay and Travis Snider also each had a pair of hits and Jose Bautista hit his seventh homer of the year.

The loss was costly for the Jays. Well, costly if you care about the rest of the season, which you probably don’t. Brian Tallet left after two innings after getting hit by a comebacker and Downs suffered his “Leg/Foot Injury of the Week” and left a couple batters after Matsui.

The Jays head to Tampa Bay for a three-game series with the Rays, starting Friday with Scott Richmond and James Shields.

Thank you, Jesse Carlson. You’re now officially the man, replacing LeBron James, who previously held the title. Carlson became the first Blue Jay to stand up to the big bad Yankees this season, making a couple stands against Jorge Posada and his oversized nose after Aaron Hill was drilled in the top of the inning in a Jays blowout win at Yankee Stadium. The benches cleared after Carlson threw behind Posada with one out in the eighth, then again and into a free-for-all when Posada brushed Carlson after scoring on a double with two outs. Emotions ran high and Carlson appeared to be wounded, but for the first time in awhile the Jays didn’t look like pussies.

The Jays ended up winning the game 10-4 behind five homers — a pair by Travis Snider and one each by Adam Lind, Edwin Encarnacion and Jose Bautista. Lind’s bomb was his 30th of the season. Roy Halladay was in and out of jams all night, giving up 11 hits but only a pair of second innings runs over six innings. The win ran his record to 15-9.

So, finally a little emotion. Finally a character-building win. The only thing missing is Josh Towers’ reaction to the kerfuffle, though I’m sure that’s to come. For now, the Jays and Yankees prepare for their season series finale, which tips tomorrow night with Brian Tallet and and Little Andrew Pettitte on the hill. Heads up, Jeter and A-Rod.

To quote former Blue Jay great A.J. Burnett, “Why? Why? Why? Why?”. Why does Cito still feel the need to sit Adam Lind against lefties? Why pinch hit for Randy Ruiz when Jose Bautista and Raul Chavez are due up next? Why did Johnny Mac start in left field? Why is Kevin Millar still getting at-bats as a cleanup hitter? More importantly, why is Millar still even on this team? So many questions, so few answers.

It took the Jays and Yankees just short of four hours to complete a 6-4 game this afternoon — a New York win if you hadn’t yet figured it out. Brett Cecil was his shaky self, giving up seven hits and three runs in four-plus innings, and Casey Janssen and Scotty Downs did their part to let the Yanks extend a couple one-run leads in the later innings. Randy Ruiz hit his sixth homer twice — the first was reversed on the first ever home run review in Rogers Centre history in the second, though he followed with one that counted two innings later.

The win gives New York a 2-1 edge in the series and an 11-4 mark in the season series. The set wraps up tomorrow afternoon, with Brian Tallet and Sergio Mitre on the mound.

I’m sure a lot of you realized my Jose Bautista rant the other day was a play off the Keith Hernandez “second spitter” incident on Seinfeld. To give credit where it’s due, above is the scene where Kramer and Newman recall the fateful day. By the way, here’s something I’ve always wondered: With all these ball teams flying around all season, don’t you think there’d be a plane crash? If you think about it — 30 teams, 162 games — you’d think an entire team would get wiped out.

Ah yes, the good old walk-off wild pitch. The Jays managed to steal the finale of their three-gamer with Tampa Bay last night when J.P. Howell bounced a 59-footer with the bases loaded, allowing Marco Scutaro to score the winner. Toronto came into the ninth down 2-1, but Rod Barajas’ pinch-hit homer tied things before Howell coughed up three walks and the wild pitch. Not the prettiest way to win a game, but it’s the Jays after all.

It was a wild one all around — two home plate umpires left with injuries and both Mark Rzepczynski and Scott Kazmir struggled with command but managed to get by. Rzepczynski actually went five-plus innings without giving up a hit before Pat Burrell singled and Gabe Kapler homered with two down in the sixth. Kapler managed to make it around the bases without tearing his achilles this time around.

The Jays were pretty quiet offensively most of the night — every starter except Kevin Millar struck out at least once and Jose Bautista provided the only real offense up until the ninth with a two-out RBI double in the sixth. Bautista was the only Jay with two hits.

The win wraps up an ugly 3-6 homestand, with a three-game set against the Red Sox at Fenway up next. Scott Richmond and Josh Beckett go head-to-head in the opener Friday night.

August 25, 2009: Jays-Rays. I’m enjoying a beautiful evening down the left field line when a crucial Jose Bautista error opens the door to a four-run Rays’ third, costing the Jays the game. My day was ruined. Anyway, after the game there were a lot of people waiting by the players’ parking lot. Now I’m coming down the ramp and Bautista is coming towards me, and as I pass him I turn and say, “Nice game, pretty boy”. A second later, something happened that changed me in a deep and profound way. He spit on me, and I screamed “I’ve been hit!”.

Okay, I never actually passed Bautista on the ramp and wasn’t spit on, plus the Jays would’ve still been pounded even without his error. But here’s my point: These makeshift lineups the Jays keep having to send out are getting ugly. Why exactly are Bautista and Kevin Millar on this team? Why even Johnny Mac, as much as we all love him? Cito’s group of misfits were pounded by Tampa Bay for the second straight night Tuesday, falling 7-3.

Brett Cecil failed to get through five innings for the third straight start, leaving with one out in the fourth and giving up six runs (five earned), including a pair of two-run bombs to Carlos Pena. Aaron Hill hit his 30th homer of the season for Toronto and Travis Snider added a late blast off Windows.

This one’s shaping up like last week’s sweep at the hands of the Red Sox. Mark Rzepczynski looks to salvage the finale Wednesday against Scott “Wild Thing” Kazmir.
