From the sounds of this, Skepta seems to have found a medium between his commercial and underground music, I really do not want to say anything so that you can simply listen and feel for yourself, this song is realy ‘that’ good.

Many may not understand my enthusiasm towards the record, it is simple, it is honest and it is positive, if mainstream could look past the stereotypes and actually listen to what is being said, Skepta could possibly carry Grime on his back and take it that step further, an intelligent artist, Skepta has allowed himself the freedom to sway from the grittiest of street records to a commercial sounding club anthem and so with Blow My Own Trumpet he manages to craft a personal masterpiece, the content of the song is reality, Skepta takes time out to praise and congratulate the scene for their acheivements thus far.

I like the production, it is not complex and that makes it easy listening, I can go on in positives about the track, the lyrics are strong, they hold emotion, many will relate to this song and as a result..then relate to Skepta himself, which can only help his evergrowing fanbase.

Skepta looks like another artist set to take the next step in 2010, he is definitely in the right direction with this effort.

Just about a week ago there was a massive hype about the new call of duty modern war fare 2 (mw2). i would call my self a pretty big gamer and i was pretty hyped about it but i couldnt realy afford it to be honest (PS3 rules btw fuck xbox 360 and fuck bill gates lol ) But I was probably more hyped for back of the q at russian bar with P money and blacks. I have seen blacks and p money live at frisco’s eyes on you launch party at the old blue last sponsored by vice and Boxfresh a few months back.I already knew about p money but i didn’t really know a lot about blacks. It was the first time ive ever heard them live and they killed the set so that’s when I got into blacks. I got to the russian bar quite early. i GOT I.D’D the bouncer was like have you got any I.D but I was like “no but I’m 18″ (LOL). MY mate NIYI spoke to the bouncer and said
(NIYI) : He’s 18
(Bouncer) : Are you the dad ?
(NIYI) : I know his mum !
(Bouncer) : Are you his dad ?
(NIYI) : YEAH I AM ! Cant you see the resemblance , Look at our hats!

( I’m white and NIYI’S black like WTF ! ? lol )

So it was early and it would obviously be empty at that time so niyi took of a picture of me just writing a way like a proper journalist.

Matty the shop keeper done a sick set. Every tune he played was a BANGER. THE DJ after him was playing alot of good funky house and was doing quite enetertaining set. so me and my friends decided to go to the macbeth. we was there for a while. We were running late so i was anxiously running back to the Russian to see P money and blacks set.

I got back in time and i think they came on a bit late so i was pretty relieved I didn’t miss any thing even though i was like 5 minutes late. when i got back to the venue was quite full and quite a few grime heads were there aswell. I saw P money before his set wearing a og’z t shirt ( og’z is his crew which blacks is in also ) So I said hi to him and blagged a interview with him after his set. I really couldn’t wait for the set to start. spyro was banging out pure grime classics which a true grime head would appreciate and Skank it out and playing such classics such as jammer murkle man , Ghetto top 3 selected , Boyy better know duppy and Chipmunk who are you. so while i was writing away a few people came up to me and wa slike “why are you writing lyircs” and saying “dont write my bars in a rave are u serious”?. I was so surprised and thought it was hillarious that people where thinking that i was writing bars when spyro was duppying the decks.DId they think i was sum stupid wigga or something ?,What a par lol.

I did get the impression and also got alot of screw faces with some of the crowd probably them thinking what is this stupid “camden boy” thinking he’s cool going to a grime night with a boy better know t shirt, But like if they knew who I was they would be completely wrong because as you know I’m really passionate about the grime scene and that im a tottenham boy also were the biggest grime crew orginated from (merdian crew). Just before the set,This so called “rude boy” came up to me and was like “why are staring at me?” I said mate “im not staring at you !” im used to this shit anyway. so finally p money and blacks came on and jumped on to the mic straight away and got down to business as well and the set was actually realy sick and realy hyped and spyro on teh decks was just the icing on the cake. and a surprise guest little dee made a appearance but only sprayed a few bars p money said his infamous phrase “what did he say! ?”

P MONEY’S MOST WELL KNOWN TRACK : WHAT DID HE SAY ?

p money and blacks were actually dominating the set and you could tell they were putting 100% effort and it really showed .There were a few random guys just jumping on mic and were literallly taking the show lol. The set and the instrumentals reminded me of the Logan sama, P money and blacks kiss fm set they done a few months ago.The HIGHLIGHT of the night was when spyro put the space ship riddim.IT probably got one of the best crowd responses that night. basically the space ship riddim is probably one of the best grime instrumentals ever. I realy dont think anyone would obeject. The most notable mc’s that have made tracks over this beat are President T, Tempa T, JME, Skepta, Jammer, and NU brand flex.

The energy absorbing set i caught up with p money and walked out side the venue and got caught up in the rain and p money said to me “can u write and walk ? ” I responded saying yes. So we were walking away from the venue and the rain was just demolishing all of my notes so I asked p money a few questions.

BIG H was one of the innovators of grime !! you probably know him from the grime group merdian crew. The members of merdian crew were Jme,Skepta, big h, President t, Boss man , nine milli major.Merdian had the grime scene by the balls in the mid 2000’s.

BIG h has been in out of jail for various crimes. Also i don’t think big h got charged for this, They caught president t stealing the car and bossman was charged for phoning giving death threats but not charged for attempted murder and sentenced for three years (also correct me if I’m wrong) . its actually terrible like this realy good talent in my opinion has went to waste because big H is one of the only ones who are still keeping it grimey and real. Also he doenst want to be comercialised but no offence to big H i don’t think a massive record label would sign him , like emi or something because of his negative lyrics and if he was main stream i think he would be badly portrayed in the media but he does actually glorify he supposedly sells crack and heroin and weed. well i do know he smokes weed lol im not sure if he is a Rasta but has the most famous dreds in the grime scene.

I just hate all of these fake grime mc’s that say shit and its alot of bull shit but i realy dont agree with thes negative lyrics. also big h has the best flow in the scene aswell its just so amazing and energetic. It just hypes you up. also there would be no BOY BETTER KNOW with out big h because he said boy botter know in a lyric. Thats how jme made the label boy better know as a record label and a crew and now boy better know is the best crew in the grime scene at the moment and has been dominating 4 quite a few years now. big h formed a new crew called bloodine with his two brothers presisent t and paper pabs and big h’s cousin bossman who now has been out of jail for a while. here are a few tracks of big h’s best tracks and just listen to these tracks and if you know about his music , youll know but if not listen to them !!!!!

Nun, aus der innigen Liebe zu Büchern aus Papier ist es wohl nicht, dass die StudenInnen den Bibliotheken die Bude einrennen. Warum die Bibliothek als physischer Ort einen ungeahnten Zulauf erfährt wurde von Nancy Fried Foster und Susan Gibbons von der River Campus Libraries der University of Rochester mit ethnographischen and anthropologischen Methoden an Nutzern der Bibliothek untersucht. Unter dem Titel “Why Do Students Want to Be In the Library If They Are Not Using the Books?” werden die beiden uns ihre Erkentnisse morgen zu gewohnter BBK Stunde um 18:00 aber an ungewohntem Ort, im Vortragssaal des Grimm-Zentrums mitteilen. Ich vermute mal per Videokonferenz.

Ich bin gespannt.

Hinter dieser coolen Abkürzung verbirgt sich ein Projekt am IBI der HU Berlin,  Infrastruktur Urheberrecht für Wissenschaft und Bildung.

IUWIS bietet Information und Diskussion zum Urheberrecht in Wissenschaft und Bildung sowohl für Produzenten wie für die Nutzer von Inhalten.

Was genau dort gemacht wird erzählen uns die Projektmitarbeiter am Dienstag, den 10.11.09, zur gwohnten BBK-Zeit um 18:00 im Institut für Bibliotheks- und Informationswissenschaft, Dorotheenstr. 26, 10117 Berlin, Raum 122.

Goin’ In features Skepta, JME, Frisco & Jammer, so you have four different styles and personalities over a literally crazy instrumental, this was not created with the intention of a musical masterpiece, it was created from a vibe, a vibe that takes over, this may not be played on radio, it might not be played in clubs (although I think it should), however throw it on before you head out to the club and you see how it gets your night started, the infectious guitar strings merge with Skepta’s comical intro which then turns into a vital harmony, each person brings their own charisma to the record, “The Rasta’s ready”, Jammer offers the hype element, Frisco brings solidity and the street feel, JME provides the quirky and witty lyrics, “I’m a big kid, like Benjamin Button”, this all blends with Skepta’s obvious presence to form a unified and versatile party track.

The track itself, as revealed by Skepta (exclusively to GrimeDaily) was created from a vibe in the studio where Skepta was messing about in the booth with the autotune on and Jammer was actually asleep, hence the, “I don’t beleive Jammer’s sleeping…”, I feel that this could be as big..if not bigger than their previous smash ‘Too Many Man’, with already over 50,000 views within a few days, the video (Directed by Scorcher and Staple House) captures the party vibe perfectly, with each feature playing out their role and visually offering the same energy as their vocals, featuring cameos from Badness, 13, Logan Sama and Little Dee, Goin’ In is set to gain Boy Better Know plenty more fans and recognition.

Bit late I know, but I had to blog about it. Good look for BBK – a good example of genre-disregarding music. Unsure of the vocoder, but the blended verse at the end is a really good idea, and Jammer is hilarious! When Donatella asks Skepta ‘Where can you see this being played?’ during this Grime Daily interview, and he stumbles for an answer, I couldn’t help but laugh.

I feel Grime fans pay too much attention to these sort of things. Instead of listening to a piece of music and making a judgement based on the emotional response the piece does, or doesn’t provoke, many base it on marketplace, situation, BPM, image or genre. This has to stop.

Shank bars and productions with no commercial appeal does not equal integrity. Shank bars are so widespread they should be viewed as spuriously as 8-bar loverman chats. Just because they don’t make any money doesn’t make them any more authentic or expressive.

I welcome this new direction for BBK. Vibes. Vibes. Vibes. And I know for sure, that there are more tracks like this on their way.

Morgen wird im IBI beim wöchentlichen BBK eine Umfrage von Kenning Arlitsch, University of Utah,

Abstract:
Research libraries will continue to be affected by rapid and transformative changes in  information technology and the networked environment for the foreseeable future.  The pace and  direction of these changes will profoundly challenge libraries and their staffs to respond effectively.
This presentation will focus on the results of a survey that was designed to discern the perceptions and  preferences of future library leaders related to organizational cultures in these times of precipitous change. The study finds that future leaders of academic libraries perceive a significant gap between their current and preferred organizational cultures, and that current organizational cultures limit their effectiveness.
