Last summer, Master P made two big announcements. The first one was that he was no longer representing the negative, with that; he changed his name to P. Miller. His second announcement was that he was going to place a positive picture in front of black America with his own television network, Better Black Television.

To be nicknamed BBTV, the network was described as a positive version of BET. From the get-go, P. Miller promised positive and responsible music videos, along with more quality original programming. Among that programming was an original sitcom, “Uncle Willy’s Family” and a “106 & Park” rip-off, “Sunset & Vine.”

For a month, or so, P. Miller made his rounds, talking about the new network and its programming. Many black media outlets spent a considerable amount of time discussing the possibility of a new network targeting the black audience. The new venture from Miller received mixed reviews. He announced the network’s launch for a 2009 timeframe. However, the lagging economy caused the channel’s launch to be pushed back.

Throughout the year of 2009, there has been absolutely no news about BBTV. With Master P deciding to develop a new series with VH1, some began to speculate that he had scrapped the idea of a television network. Perhaps, sensing that, P. Miller has decided to speak on his network, once again.

He has not come out and said that the reason the network’s launch was pushed back was due to the economy, but it is obvious. Instead, Miller just said that the channel can be expected sometime in 2010. He made it clear that the idea of BBTV was far from forgotten and that it is still coming.

Thugs grow up, too. Master P has been one to prove that. He is a business-minded man that is dedicated to changing things for the better. Admittedly, he was a part of the problem for years.

Starting in 2007, Master P has been trying to become a positive influence on a negative black community. He has been taking many steps in the right direction.

In 2007, he released Hip Hop History with his son, Romeo. The album was profanity-free and it was supposed to be released on the same day as 50 Cent’s Curtis. The album was not, but the point was made.

To continue the positive trend, Master P decided to launch a positive television network geared towards the black audience. The result was Better Black Television. The channel was supposed to have been launched this year, but the poor economy derailed things.

While television may not be the thing for Master P, television shows just might be. It turns out that Master P is not the only one trying to change their image. After the controversy surrounding “Megan Wants A Millionaire,” VH1 is trying to change their image.

The new show is entitled “No Excuses” and it will follow P as he tries to help troubled gang members resurrect their lives. No premiere date has been set for the new series. Presumably, the show will begin its run sometime next summer.

The lagging economy has placed a halt on a lot of business ventures that were supposed to have taken place in the past year. It should be no surprise that black-owned businesses would also be struggling, albums by Jadakiss, Ja Rule, 50- Cent, and Jay-Z have been pushed back because the labels (Universal) are not sure that they will get a full return on their investment. Back in August of 2008, former gangsta rapper, Master P, decided to start a television network to target the African-American audience. This was only months after TBT’s start back in June. If you recall, P announced that the network will launch in 2009. However, now, the website is announcing 2010. This adds, BBTV to the long list of businesses that have been hampered by the recession. The schedule is set to feature many reruns, and original sitcoms like “Uncle Willy’s Family.” The channel will also have a “Teen Summit”-like program, “Teens Real Talk.” BBTV is not the first black-owned channel to re-structure since the recession began. Texas-based Black Broadcasting Network was set to air in 2008, but was pushed back to an indefinite date in 2009. However, they have signed a contract with the Premier Basketball League to air their games. When BBTV launches, be sure that their budget will be extremely tight as many businesses are these days. Still, remember True Black Television is here. (http://www.mogulus.com/trueblacktv)

I mean come on, I was watching a Master P interview, really, I watched two and he completely snubbed

I mean come on, I was watching a Master P interview, really, I watched two and he completely snubbed TV One in both. In the first interview, he is asked about why he wants to start BBTV, he replies, I felt a need for it (which is true, the African-American audience is underserved). After that, he goes on to mention that because BET is the ONLY and has been the ONLY television network aimed at black people it was time for him to step up and become “the next Bob Johnson.” With those type of comments, I really do not know where to start. First of all, BET is not the only television network that aims at the black audience, it is simply the first. If you look back in history, BET has had quite a few competiors. Their first was MBC Network, which later became Black Family Channel (as much as BBTV bites their theme, he definitely knows about this network), then came NUE-TV, which later became TV One. This network has since gone on to give BET a serious threat for its money, so, why is he over here talking about BET has never had any competition and that they are the only network out there for black people. Then, he has the nerve to say that he wants to become the next Bob Johnson. But, if you listen to him defend his network, he is well on his way because he is already defending his product without one day of airplay. Being the next Bob Johnson is a major accomplishment if you mean financial-wise. This man knows his way around a dollar and he knows how to close deals. For that, I respect him, but as a content creator, I have no respect for him. The only thing that Mr. Johnson did for the black audience is take a bunch of music videos, put a video jockey in front of them is some store, tape it, and give it a cable television signal. After he did all of that, he underpaid his workers and named the channel Black Entertainment Television. After much criticism, he did make moves to improve his lineup, though, I do like the idea of classic black sitcoms being aired in syndication (TV One), but when you get the money, make your own and cut back on the borrowed programming. But, you have to admit, BET has become a pretty good television outlet since Bob Johnson left it. But, Percy Miller is simply in another planet. He also calls himself the youngest owner of a television network. The last time I checked, TBT was a small television network, but one nonetheless and I own it. Trust me, I am several years younger than Lil Romeo, let alone Master P, so, that title does not belong to him either. All that he has is a lot of promises. But, when I just let my opinion be known back in September, his workers fired back like I was the NAACP and they were BET. They should not have to come at me and tell me that their shows are going to be great, all that they should do is start airing commercials about their product and launch it. After all, their programming might end up being really good, but, by coming to the defense so quickly, that might turn viewers away. But, really does this guy check the news, BET was outdone four years ago when TV One rose from the ashes of NUE TV. What he is doing is nothing new, honestly, it came only one month after I started my television network, and to not mention us is one thing, we are not important, but ignoring TV One more than once is a major insult. Then, to not mention me is another because Mona Lisa and Derek had to have told you about my comments, then their responses. But, it does not quite upset me, it just insults me. Just a word of advice, if you want to compete with BET, you have to fight TV One, too. I know that my main competitor is BET just like you, but I have taken aim more than one time at TV One, BET, and your Better Black Television. But, how dare you ignore what is going on around you, even your beloved Bob Johnson is getting back into the business with his new network, Urban Entertainment. Oh yeah, after the whole BET thing, I think that Mr. Johnson’s new channel will be crap too.

I know that most of you have noticed it. Most of the time, by late November, I usually have picked my favorite shows on what night and on what network. I have made my choices, but, like most, I chose an alternate route. Most years, it would seem that the “Big Three” broadcast networks, plus FOX, would have almost everything covered, but for about five years NBC has been slipping, this year, they fell, hard. I tried watching their “Must See TV” two weeks ago, it just was not my cup of tea (I think someone is regretting cancelling Tracy Morgan and Whoopi). For about two years, ABC has been slipping, and with what they did to “Desperate Housewives,” FOX now holds my Sundays. For my Mondays, all other networks have long given this to CBS, and they deserve it. Even though FOX owns Sundays, as far as the rest of their lineup, they will soon, too, be revealed unless they are able to get some better programming. During the summer, I proudly endorsed, MyNetworkTV, but I am glad no one listened, because I was done after one night, so, CBS also gets my Wednesdays. For the rest of the week, I am finding myself watching more cable channels, such as TBS. Other than that, I am on the internet watching television. It is a shame how the broadcast television network just assumed that they can do almost anything and still remain #1. From what TBS has showed you, this is not so. One thing that I have realized is that if television really sucks, then black television has croaked. As you all know, back in the day, we had NBC, then FOX, then The WB, then UPN, then we were abandoned. However, TV One has picked up any show that had a black face and put them on. That may seem good, but they never give it a consistent lineup for more than a month or too. But, what I have seen is longtime rival BET grow up a bit, and TV One get a little younger. Aside from the videos, these are two not so bad television networks. I criticize these networks a lot, but TV One is very entertaining and very good at what they do. From day 1, they said they were here for the older audience and that they would never be what everybody wanted it to be. BET has stated similar things over the years, but after adding “Somebodies” and “The Black Panther,” BET might just be #1 because of their programming, not just due to default. Then, there is BBTV, started by a rapper, with dreams of being #1. They are promising to hit the ground running when they start. I just want to warn Master P, do not fall for the same trap that the Black Family Channel fell for. Then, there’s TBT. For TBT, I can go in depth about what is going on because I am deciding what is going on. I think that when you watch True Black Television, the young audience will really appreciate it. I want it to be urban, but not ghetto, I hope you understand that because I am having trouble. I have a news segment, but do not initially look for CNN. I have plans of launching a series called “TBT News” it will be hosted by James P (for now), and will deal with African-American news of the day. Yes, it will be daily. I also have another series, it shows promise, “TBT: Behind The Scenes.” For this series, we go behind the scenes of music videos, sports teams, and popular black television shows. I think that most people will enjoy that. But, I do follow a script, too. I have plans for a black version of “Animation Domination” that will air on Saturday Nights. Enter, “Animation In Color,” its initial lineup will consist of “Living Lavish” and “Irglewood USA” (formerly “Keith’s World”). Despite not having the money of a Master P, Comcast, or Viacom, I do feel that TBT will be a serious threat, playing it from behind. You already know that the “Big Three” have been made, BET, TV One, and BBTV. That places me exactly where I want to be, “fourth.” Remember the last 4th network. They are now number one. I think that TBT may be written off early, but I think that we have the best lineup. TBT has gained its popularity due to shows like “The Hughleys,” “In The House,” “The Wayans Bros.,” “Malcolm & Eddie,” “Martin,” “Living Single,” “The Game,” “Everybody Hates Chris,” “The Jamie Foxx Show,” “My Wife and Kids,” “The Bernie Mac Show,” and “The Tracy Morgan Show.” Plus, I think that my network has that edge. We are “urban and hip” sort of like what BET was when they first started. Also, I have high hopes for my little animated sitcoms (shorts). They may start out lukewarm, but I am going to make them hot. So, for now, television sucks, but wait until I get the money to take over this television game. If you want to see more just watch it.

Maybe the title was a little insensitive to those who are searching for all forms of equality, so, for those people, I will give you this: “African-American Television Up to Now.” I cannot afford to turn viewers away. Now, I want to move into the subject. When I say black television, I do not mean black shows that have aired on television networks, I mean television networks that have aired exclusively black programming. In order to denounce racism, broadcast television networks have placed many token black shows on the air, only a few have become long-running hits (The Jeffersons, Family Matters, The Cosby Show, Girlfriends). But, in 1979, it seemed that all of these type of problems would be over with. The reason it seemed this way was because of Robert L. “Bob” Johnson. He had recently left his post at NCTA to pursue his own cable serivce, Black Entertainment Television. In order to save money, he launched BET as a Friday Night programming block on the USA Network. Initially, the “netlet” aired old black movies and sitcoms in their 11:00 p.m.-3:00 a.m. block. As I was not born for this magnificient creation, I had to do research on it. It was said that most black people did not like the programming that was coming from this block. Let me be the first to tell you, I could really enjoy programming like that, what has gotten me is that almost 30 years later, only one original program follows a script. But, the criticisms of “BET on USA” did not stop Bob Johnson as his netlet gained a strong following in urban areas. In 1986, he managed to turn a big enough profit from his USA days that he was able to buy his own signal for BET and, as a result, they got their own channel. By the year of 1986, MTV had launched and became a place to watch music (henceforth the name, Music Television). The only problem was MTV mostly aired videos from white audiences. BET, at the time, still could not afford to air any original programs, so they began airing music videos, supplied by record labels, from black artists. Initially, the music programming was not that bad because the schedule also consisted of many news shows. This kept most people satisfied with the network. As the 1990s approached, BET had partnered with HBO and began turning major profits. Due to this, the people wanted better, but, despite having risen to become a full-fledged television network, BET still aired programming as if it were still a netlet. Speaking of netlets, the FOX network was quickly rising from the status of netlet to #1 television network. They were able to do this because they targeted an underserved market. Since BET only aired music videos, many black people turned to FOX, who aired such shows as “New York Undercover,” “Damon,” “In Living Color,” “Martin,” “Roc,” and “Living Single” to fill their schedule. Still, BET did not take a cue. Instead, Bob Johnson sold the BET networks to Viacom. Now, the people really expected the quality of the network’s shows to increase. They did not, instead, they now aired original programming from sister network, UPN to take away some of the music programming. This was a major step for BET, but it still was not original, so the criticism simply increased. In 1999, the “first black network” now had competition. Many wealthy African-Americans started the Black Family Channel (then, MBC Network). This channel would last for 8 years, but ultimately failed because they tried to do too much at one time. Also, a “third black network” emerged in 1999, New Urban Entertainment Television (NUE TV). This network was run by Radio One, and, like BFC, primarily relied on funding from black-owned companies. The channel relied on syndicated black sitcoms and dramas to fill their schedule. In 2002, funding and ratings dropped. In 2003, the channel went on hiatus and eventually shut down. In 2004, led by NUE TV’s biggest investor, Radio One, took most of NUE TV’s investors, urban radio hosts, and partnered with Comcast to bring TV One to the forefront. TV One had done similar tactics to that of BET to gain an audience and funding. They relied on old movies and classic sitcoms, but they had the ability to launch 24-hours the first time around. They went on to become the biggest competitors to BET. In 2007, Black Family Channel left cable to become an internet-supported network. In 2008, the network shut down for good. By 2008, TV One now seemed posied to become what BET had failed to, an original programming powerhouse. But, they seem reluctant to go after their own scripted entertainment. Instead, they choose to air “lifestyle” shows like “Living It Up with Patti LaBelle,” “Cooking with G. Garvin,” and “Singletary Says.” For this, they, too are beginning to gain criticism. I felt this was my perfect time to strike. Being a big fan of TV, I have a good idea of what will work and what won’t. I have a feeling that, if given a chance, most shows that don’t live past season 1, could become long-running hits. I started TBT mainly to give these shows (“All About The Andersons,” “The Tracy Morgan Show,” “Whoopi,” “Second Time Around,” and “Kevin Hill”) a chance. I also have a good idea on what people like (“Martin,” “Malcolm & Eddie,” “The Wayans Bros.,” and “The Jamie Foxx Show”). This is why I felt that this was the right time to launch my channel, and I think that I might be right as the TBT brand has grown to reach 100,000 viewers (thank you so much). Despite, high views (?), my TBT does not have the proper funding, this is where others can step in. Welcome Master P to the TV biz. It turns out, I was not the only person watching in disbelief on what the “black” networks were producing and calling entertainment. It turns out Master P was also watching. The difference between myself and Master P is $500 Million to my $23. Plus, he has more contacts than I could ever dream of. But, I love challenges. In August 2008, Master P announced his television network, bodly titled Better Black Television. He quickly shortened the name to BBTV. Soon, the network launched on the internet. In 2009, it will launch on cable. P did not take the amateur route for this channel either, he signed up Will Smith, Denzel Washington, Derek Anderson, and a few others to make decisions for this network. Of course, he will serve as the face of this new franchise. I criticized him for that and I still do, but this is a very, very clever way to attract advertisers. I knew this all along, but I think that you should let your project speak for itself. So, now Master P’s network is known worldwide, well, its known at a lot of places and he has programming that is very similar to that of BET in its early days. There is one major difference, though, BBTV has on its schedule, a scripted, live action, original program. Named after his 2006 film, Master P is producing an original sitcom from BBTV entitled, “Uncle Willy’s Family.” It is a very bold move for a brand new network, but if Master P wants to follow a script, then more power to him. His channel may not be the best in the world, but I do think that it will provide some entertaining programs, at times. If he is commited to it, then, it will be here for the long haul, much like me and my company. Either way, count them up, ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX battle for ratings of the basic audience on broadcast. BET, TV One, BBTV, and TBT will soon battle for ratings of our audience, hopefully, the “Big Three plus 1″ black networks will conduct our schedules like television networks over “YouTube”-like quality. Notice, when, I listed the networks, who was listed “Fourth.” To help TBT’s cause, you can make donations, check our advertising rates, or just watch us, here: http://www.livestream.com/trueblacktv

With the dramatic rise of reality shows and the revival of the primetime soap operas, not only black

With the dramatic rise of reality shows and the revival of the primetime soap operas, not only black, but all sitcoms have become an endangered species. This has been combated by the likes of television networks such as, FOX, TBS, and others. As most people know, the newest faces that appear are the ones that are the most poised to leave. For broadcast television sitcoms, that was the black sitcoms. Now, broadcast television does a great job at giving black people roles in dramas, they have even created dramas that revolve around black people, or families. The biggest feat, in my opinion is that of “Grey’s Anatomy.” That steamy prime-time soap opera was created by a black woman. The story was told since day one, but I really did not buy it. Why was I so ready to dismiss that? That in itself tells about how at least one black person can be predjudice against their own. I have since changed, and I think the fact that a black woman can go out and create a show (primetime soap at that) with a primarily white cast, then create a successful spin-off is black history. You know, for years, black shows (sitcoms mostly) have come and go, but their writers have been white. That is acceptable, it seems like a black person can accept a white person developing a sitcom or drama about them, but it seems that viewers have a hard time dealing with a black person writing a white-themed series. That time has passed, ever since Shonda Rhimes emerged into the television game. The fact that we are behind screen is a major accomplishment and I think that people should take that into consideration when they get upset at how blacks have been taken off of television. That just shows that trends change. In the late 80s, FOX emerged as a viable fourth broadcast network. They went about it by targeting young viewers with shows that “did not follow the rules” then, they created an all-black Thursday night lineup that trumped NBC’s “Must See TV.” That showed how viewers respond, but that time has since passed. But, FOX and later UPN proved that black people bring in ratings, but they also proved that authentic black shows make a bigger impace. The WB also followed this theme for a while, but most of their shows featured mostly white writers. Then, people could not directly relate to the plots of The WB’s black shows like how we could to the numerous UPN sitcoms or to a “Living Single.” But, all three of the networks shows are entertaining. One thing that we did not realize when black sitcoms were beginning to slip was that the entire sitcom genre was endangered. But, in 2007, TBS made the decision to begin doing original sitcoms. Then, Tyler Perry launched his franchise, the rest is history. Now, you find more sitcoms on cable than you do no cable. As a result, you see more black faces, Disney added “Cory in the House,” BET added “Somebodies,” TBS added “Tyler Perry’s House of Payne” and “Meet the Browns,” BBTV is preparing to add “Uncle Willy’s Family,” Ion Television is planning an entire original black lineup, then there is TBT and what we’re about to do. If you look at the television landscape, the black shows are not falling off, they are just switching places. Now, television currently has or is adding ”The Game,” “Everybody Hates Chris,” “Lincoln Heights,” “Tyler Perry’s House of Payne,” “The Boondocks,” “Cory in the House,” “Somebodies,” “Just Jordan,” “Under One Roof,” “Chocolate News,” “The Tony Rock Project,” “Meet The Browns,” “True Jackson, VP,” “Uncle Willy’s Family,” “The Boondocks,” “Irglewood USA,” “Living Lavish,” Ice Cube’s planned Cop Drama, “The Cleveland Show,” “Never Better,” and “The Eddie Griffin Show.” If you really think about it, by 2009 there will probably be more black television shows on than there ever were on before. Think about it, Code Black TV is developing some new shows, Master P has BBTV, BET has gotten into the spirit, of course TBT is going to be in the mix, then TV One is trying to get into the market. Now, I think that MyNetworkTV may still be a factor because they tested the black audience, but they gave us sup-par material. I think they have benched their two black comedy shows and are trying to hire some of the writers that have previously worked with FOX and UPN. It is ver much so possible that they switch up the theme of “The Tony Rock Project” and bring in better writers for “Under One Roof.” Also, I think that MyNet is in talks with producers of recent black comedy movies about a television series adaptation. I mean, they wouldn’t just pull their shows and not give them better, proper replacements. Trust me when I say, black television is going to get the attention that we have lacked for the past few years. I have hope, plus so many of you have hope in me, and I want your eyes, I need your eyes, I need feedback. When I upload my shows, do not hesistate to tell me if you think that my show isn’t where you think it should be. Let me know if my jokes are corny, I need to know so I can try to fix it because these shows are for you. But, I have shown one show to a select few people and I get any where from average to positive reviews. Thank you all for your support.

Since September 9, 2008, Black Entertainment Television (BET) has been able to avoid the criticism that has been aimed at them since their inception. How they were able to do this was simple, do what you said you would. On that date, their since critically-acclaimed scripted sitcom (first scripted sitcom not counting “Hey Monie!”) “Somebodies” debuted for their first season. It was an initial ordering of 10 episodes. Originally, both “Somebodies” and an animated sitcom were supposed to air together in the fall of 2007. However, some other issues came out and the fate of “Somebodies” was hanging by threads. By 2008, many people realized that the show hadn’t aired and then I came out and said that BET probably had no intentions of airing the series. A week after I made that comment, BET stopped showing the “Somebodies Coming Soon” promos and gave the show and official date and their own episode on “Access Granted.” Then, the show premiered, but they had it on at 10:30, by that time, most workers are tired and have missed the episode. That is when BET shifted the time slots to accomodate these viewers. Ever since then, “Somebodies” has gotten mostly positive reviews and high ratings. “Somebodies” has changed the outlook of BET even though their Entertainment President, Reginald Hudlin resigned. “Somebodies” has caused a spark in black television, TV One has since announced their own original, scripted programming block, BBTV is turning “Uncle Willy’s Family” into a sitcom, and I am still working. So, by the time I am ready to debut my shows, it will look as if I only did so because everybody else did. I can live with that. Speaking of life, one thing that would make my life a little better is a second season of “Somebodies,” which was granted. The second season my debut in June 2009, or may get a traditional fall debut and a full season order. Either way, “Somebodies” is BET’s breakout hit. Even though it should have debuted 24 years earlier and FOX has since produced many breakout hits. But, it is a start and BET may soon become a ratings powerhouse.

For years there have been few places that we could go for entertainment. Where we could see ourselve

For years there have been few places that we could go for entertainment. Where we could see ourselves on the television screen. In 1980, Robert L. Johnson gave us something to look forward to. He secured enough financial backers, investors, and advertisers to build his own cable television network that was dedicated to entertaining black people. In BET’s early years, they had trouble gaining credibility through their ratings. Because of that, they decided to become a rival to MTV instead of going after the ratings of NBC, CBS, and ABC. This is how BET found their niche, over the years, their ratings went up and so did the money, but the quality in programming went down. BET was so unreliable for some black people that FOX was doing a better job of catering. In 1999, BET has their first form of competition with MBC Network (later Black Family Channel). They had better programming than BET, but their downfall was trying to do too much too soon. Black Family Channel wanted to feature gospel programs, adult programs, teenager’s programs, kids programs, and they also ventured into sports. Having this many projects at one time can be a financial burden on a young network, so in 2007, BFC went lights out. But, BFC wasn’t BET’s only competiton, in 2000, BET’s most successful competitor to date was born. In 2000, Radio One decided to invest in a television network to rival BET. The result was New Urban Entertainment Television (NUE TV). They aimed at older viewers and featured a lot of public affairs-type programs. By 2002, NUE TV was in financial trouble and in 2003, they went off of the air. However, they did make a brief return, then Radio One pulled out of the venture and NUE TV morphed into TV One. For the second time, Radio One got some big-time investors, such as Comcast and NBC. Instead of going directly into original programming, TV One decided that their best bet was doing everything BET wasn’t. It worked as TV One packed their schedule with a plethora of black sitcoms and dramas. On top of all of this, they provided numerous documentaries. By 2006, they had gained footing as a legitimate television network. Room for two? Why not? As soon as TV One established themselves, BET hired Reginald Hudlin. By 2008, he had gained BET their first original sitcom. This was the same year he resigned from BET. It seemed as if BET and TV One were together covering all aspects of black entertainment as there was no major need for another one. In 2008, TBT was announced and it launched as a YouTube channel. In order to get an audience, TBT has established themselves as a network that specializes in black sitcoms and we have a lot of them. Along with syndicated programs, TBT is also working on original programs with two slated to debut. They are two animated sitcoms, “Living Lavish” and “Irglewood USA.” I think that these two shows will be some of the smartest and funniest shows to ever hit a PC. I will use the profits that I may make off of these shows and my channel to launch on cable television. Even when I do make it to cable, I will always air on YouTube because that is where I started. I know that in order to build my audience I have called out many other network’s faults (mainly BET, but that is beside the point), but I want it to be known that I have nothing against these networks, I just think that my channel will be a little better than theirs. Recently, I wrote a page about why I thought Master P’s network will fail and someone that works for Better Black Television responded. Because of that I came back out of anger, but now I have had time to take in what happened and I would like to explain. What I was saying is I don’t think that his network will make it is because first of all, Mr. Miller lacks the follow-through of most businessmen. When No Limit Records got into debt, he just let it go and started another record label. I’m saying you don’t see an Irv Gotti or Jay-Z letting that happen to their labels. Plus, as far as I know, he does not have any corporate sponsors or investors in the company, which was the downfall of Black Family Channel. You see, I do not have the money of Master P. In order to start my little channel, I spent $200 and most of that money was borrowed. Also, I lack the ability to meet with CEOs of big companies to convince them to advertise on my channel. So, all that I am reduced to is talking to the local businesspeople in my neighborhood and the surrounding areas. The only other way I can get sponsors is by posting messages on my blog and on my YouTube channel. See, I have started small, and Master P has invested far much more than I have and he hasn’t even hit television yet. If you take it back to the broadcast days, that is how DuMont failed, but FOX took the time to assemble their assets to make them work best for the network. That is what I have done. I didn’t go out and raise money to buy a slot on major cable systems. If I had done that, I would have had 24 hours out there with nothing to fill it with. So, I started small to finish big, P. Miller, on the other hand jumped head first into this and I fear that his project will fail. I was really insulted that Derek came at me like that because I did not believe in his place of employment. I am the competition, I am supposed to say things like that, but you just do not respond that way. People tell me every day that TBT is going to fail, but that does not stop me from drawing my pictures, wirting my script, then doing my voice-overs all for this channel to succeed. Watch us grow, TBT is the network.

Trust me, I think that I have seen enough to predict where the network is going, Derek. I could have never gotten in with BBTV, and I would have never wanted to. Now, I have nothing against you or Master P. I am just stating my opinion, which I am entitled to. But, I do have a few issues with BBTV. This network hasn’t even launched yet, and you guys are already on the defense. Listen, no matter what you do, people are going to doubt me. People tell me that TBT is going to fail all of the time, even fellow YouTubers. If you can’t take one critic, Derek, you are in the wrong business. I think that BBTV is taking the same path that BET had taken for 28 years. Plus, you’re using “weasel words” that one show, what show is it, “Sunset and Vine.” Come on, be original, you’re not coming with anything new. You cannot tell me that “Sunset and Vine” is not a direct rip-off of BET’s “106 & Park.” Its nothing more than 106 when they go to California for a week, only the show is based out there. Then, you have hip hop garage. Master P promised something innovative, I mean, its a start, but you didn’t say things were going to start this slow. Now, I was honest, I told you it was going to take some hard work and a lot of time to get TBT where I want it. Now, I think that “Living Lavish” will be a good show, but I do not want it to define my network. Also, I do not think that your “one” show will define BBTV. What will most likely define BBTV is being a rip-off of BET and TV One. You have the “responsible” music videos and the lifestyle shows. You be the judge, you decide what this is. I do not see how this is “BETTER” Black Television. If anything it is “AVERAGE” Black Television. Another prop that I want to give to BBTV is that they are doing a show for the kids, that is very important to let the “kid” networks know, black kids want to be entertained too. So, Derek, how does this make me a hater. I could call you guys imitators, not saying that you are. Think about it, on June 29, I launched my YouTube channel and stated my goals. On August 15, Master P announces his plans to go on cable with a network to rival BET. This network shows everything BET does, despite calling themselves “better.” You know, I would not be surprised if your “one” show is called “Nobodies” (that’s opposite). Then, he goes on to say “the website is not complete” okay, I understand that, but I did see Master P comparing himself with the likes of Barack Obama and Martin Luther King, Jr. Complete or incomplete, that’s what the website contains, even if its not done. Now, what has Master P (a former gangsta rapper) done to be on this level. Did he help end segregation (no), did he run for president (I’m thinking no), is he trying to take the United States in a new direction (I think not). So, Derek, what exactly is your point. From what I see, you can add all you want, BBTV is still Miller Exposure Television. As soon as you click on the site, it has new music videos. The first video belongs to (Lil’) Romeo. I understand that he has as much of a right as any artist to be on that list, but why is his the first one up there. He hasn’t had a major hit since 2004, “My Cinderella,” (but, I did like that song). Then, you guys state that you want some reality shows. Who is going to star in these shows? What are they going to be about? Maybe, Romeo in college? How did I know, so Derek, do not come at anyone for because we criticized you. I said this to you, imagine what others say about BBTV behind closed doors. I do this in hopes that your network will have some quality programming, but, right now, I just do not see it. Nor, do I see my network where I think it should have been by this time. Don’t get mad, I’m only being real. Peace to everyone.

Say you’ve got a new book to promote. You could go to the time and effort of creating a unique web presence — or you could team up with a popular web series to help you out. John Hodgman took the latter approach, thanks to his preexisting relationship with BoingBoing TV.

The actor/writer/Daily Show correspondent has made several previous appearances on BBtv, including serving as the host of semi-regular feature SPAMasterpiece Theatre. But today’s episode of the daily series, according to host Xeni Jardin, is NOT, of course a book promotion. They’re just chatting about Hodgman’s newest book, More Information Than You Require, while holding copies of the book… In front of a giant pile of more books…

Hodgman has always been a fairly accessible cult figure (his Twitter account keeps fans posted on his everyday happenings plus special events like appearing at the Emmys). Thus, the episode’s reliance on Twitter-submitted questions is a perfect fit, allowing Hodgman to engage with fans as well as introduce newcomers to his unique sense of humor.

There will be a few more Hodgman BBtv specials before the book’s release on Oct. 21, according to Jardin, who does explicitly state that this is an unpaid promotion for Hodgman’s work.
In today’s episode of Boing Boing tv, [Xeni] interviews [Star Simpson]. She was arrested a year ago at Boston’s Logan airport for wearing a sweatshirt with a breadboard and some LEDs attached. With a collective groan, we watched this event unfold just months after Boston was held captive by Mooninites. After many court dates, [Star] is being forced to apologize and perform community service. She has since left MIT, disappointed with their nonexistent support, and left Boston entirely. Watch the interview for her side of the story. She’s posted how to recreate the sweatshirt.

Hip-hop entrepreneur, Percy Miller, better known as Master P, is launching an alternative cable network–Better Black Television (i love that name yo…just get to the point…BETTER…BLACK). This endeavor is promoted as a family-friendly network which will provide “positive content for a black and brown culture.” BBTV is set to launch in 2009, offering news programming, original shows, and “responsible hip-hop music and videos.” (I feel an MC Hammer comeback…what, what!). Percy is surrounding himself with excellence by having an advisory board that includes Oscar winner, Denzel Washington (for Training Day to them….Malcolm X for us), NBA player Derek Anderson (Charlotte Bobcats) and hip-hop pioneer DJ Kool Herc.

Kudos! It’s about time there was an alternative to “Hell Date”.

NoahSife.com has learned that Master P has changed his name. He is now officially going by P. Miller

NoahSife.com has learned that Master P has changed his name. He is now officially going by P. Miller. This is what he had to say to Starpulse:

He explains, “When you come from hip-hop it’s almost impossible to move past the stereotypes associated with it. I’ve branched out into so many different arenas that range from being the first African-American to have a clothing line at Wal-Mart to writing books and speaking on Capitol Hill, but all that gets overshadowed because I come from the hip-hop industry. There are a lot of people out there, who are afraid to grow up and change, but I’m not, and P. Miller is the evolution of me, Percy Miller the entrepreneur, the businessman.”

He has also started a new network that will give BET a run for their money this is the report from MSNBC:

Percy Miller (formerly Master P) announces the launch of Better Black Television (BBTV) a family friendly network that will provide positive content for a black and brown culture that will appeal to all races with a goal to bring people of color a choice when turning on their television. The content on the channel will contain a wide arrangement from health and fitness, animation, financial planning, reality TV, sitcoms, dramas, movies, responsible hip-hop music and videos, politics, sports and entertainment news, educational children’s shows as well as teen and family programming.

Better Black Television is the brainchild and passion of some of the most diverse, powerful, celebrated entertainers, influentials and trendsetters from the Television, Film, Professional Sports, Corporate America and Music industries. These visionaries all share the common goal of enhancing the current television landscape for this highly coveted demographic currently monopolized by only a few significant providers, with fresh, innovative, uplifting and above all family-friendly entertainment.

Wow, can my homey Noah Sife get a show on the new network Percy? Man! Percy Miller has came up in a big way! This is so inspiring and teaches you that you can achieve anything. I wish him all the success in the world, he deserves it…
