The youngest of Fred Gelman’s children, eight year-old Isaac used to feel lacking. His eldest brother Jacob inherited his father’s physical strength and unshakable faith, while his next oldest brother Daniel displayed an early affinity with technology and sentient devices. Other than the fainting inherited from his mother, little Isaac possessed only his father’s capacity for unlucky mishaps. This reality was what led Isaac to study pharmacy. He wanted a cure, and his young age wasn’t going to stop his search.

It surprised Issac when his father said they were moving to a place with little mayhem. It was even more of a surprise when he and and his family arrived in Kadia. Soon he realized the condition that plagued him his entire life had drastically weakened. Emboldened, he went to the nearby lake to skip stones (something he read about in a book). That was when he met the otters.

Now Isaac no longer feels so inferior. He can play outside without getting killed, study disciplines he had no idea existed, and experiment with the powers his otter friends taught him. He’s even begun studying combat, in case he has to return to Battling Business World. Sure, his new abilities disconcert his mother and father. Isaac is very happy with his new home, though, and he wouldn’t trade it for all of Manhattan!

Identifying Characteristics: 8 years old, 4′4″, 7o lbs, dark brown hair, brown eyes, pale skin; active and playful, less so outside Kadia.

Basic Appearance: Of all the Gelman sons, Isaac is the one who looks the most like his father. He is smaller and lighter than most boys his age. That said, though, he is remarkably healthy-looking for someone who has dealt with fainting all his life. Isaac likes to wear subdued polo shirts and jeans. He hasn’t decided if he wants to wear a yarmulke yet: Gelman has let his sons wait until bar mitzvah age for that responsibility.

Personality: Before his family moved to Kadia, Isaac was shy and retiring enough to make his father look like a social butterfly. He rarely ran around and played. Now that he’s in a place where danger is not a day-to-day reality and his condition is less severe, little Isaac is becoming braver and more extroverted. He’s even becoming a bit overconfident. He remains a fairly dedicated young academic, dedicated to removing his condition for good.

Template Disadvantages: Insane (most toons are blasé, even bored, in even the most dangerous and deadly situations, -3 CP).

Available Character Points: Frail, Unluck, and Vow (cure the hereditary condition plaguing him, his older brothers, and his mother). Total 24 (Base) + 10 (Disadvantages) = 34.

Isaac’s Frail Disadvantage represents his chronic condition. It’s currently no worse than momentary lightheadedness since he’s in Kadia. In Battling Business World, it would be Accursed (will faint if even mildly shocked or startled). Isaac will not be happy if the temporary downgrade becomes apparent.

Few battling businesspeople are as dedicated to their BlackBerry smartphones as Fred Gelman. After procuring his first one, he meticulously retooled, upgraded, and protected it. He ensured that it would be prepared for sentience through diaries and educational files. Most significantly, he was technically adept enough to transfer the entirety of its memory from model to model. Gelman hoped that his BlackBerry would never awaken. Tiny sentient devices had it hard in Battling Business World. Since sentience was a reality, though, he wanted the device to enter the world with open digital eyes.

Unfortunately for Gelman, his devotion prodded his BlackBerry toward sentience. Because it had so much data about the world in its hard drive, it stirred in its sleep. It didn’t animate or grow appendages. Instead, Gelman’s BlackBerry simply watched the world through its armored and padded case. It recognized its partner’s affection and his frustration with his life. It endured a move to an alien realm and the crawling nanites that greatly improved its capabilities. Finally, something happened that the BlackBerry never predicted. Gelman was desperate for aid in a massive project. Putting aside his fears for the device, he had a mysterious source infuse it with strange energies. Then he tapped it on its screen, adding the chaos inherent to Battling Business World to the mix.

Fern was born. She demanded to stay that way, and Gelman soon realized he was in no position-ethical or otherwise-to refuse.

Fern named herself for the first thing she saw after she awakened. Unlike most devices, she has also taken a surname (since that’s how Gelman referred to her in the files). In addition to these eccentricities, Fern is also a hybrid, a BlackBerry with all the features of a Core Imp. She is a most unusual device. Despite this, though, she is dedicated to organization and efficiency. The Manifold needs so much of it!

Basic Appearance: Fern appears to be a typical sentient BlackBerry Dynamo A100: a model combining touch and keyboard interfaces. Peripheral ports line her black casing, and she has the usual spindly arms and legs. Her screen even displays the tiny black eyes and O-shaped mouth common to the perpetually-stressed smartphones. No one in Battling Business World would suspect her true capabilities.

Personality: As a sentient BlackBerry, Fern is one of the most dedicated office workers in Battling Business World. She lives to organize her employer’s life-whether he or she likes it or not. Her work ethic is unparalleled among sentient devices, and the urge to argue and fight only occasionally mars her impeccable discipline. Thanks to being able to fly and increase in size, Fern is much braver than others of her kind. Unfortunately, she is prone to burning out. There will be times when she wants nothing more than to sit on her charger in a dark, quiet place.

Fern is also religiously dim, even for a sentient device. She doesn’t get why humans would worship beings they’ve never seen. Entities like Kevin are simply people wielding weird powers. The closest thing to a god in her life is the person who awakened her, and Fern considers Fred Gelman a deeply neurotic, if generous and respectable, employer. This will be a problem in a highly Jewish household.

Available Character Points: Compulsive (organizing), Frail, and Irreverent; Duties (currently employed by Fred Gelman, +2 CP/Level). Total 96 (Base) + 16 (Disadvantages and CP Modifiers) = 112.

Fern’s body structure is somewhat less awkward than Limey’s. She can wear customized armor-and has a devoted employer who can make it for her.

BAB: +1 (6 CP)

Armor Class: 10 + 2 (Dex) + 2 (Wis) + 1 (armor) + 2 (size) + 1 (natural armor) = 18. Fern also has damage resistance 5 against all attacks.

Fern is usually not a combatant. She’s brave, but she’s intelligent enough to realize she has no chance against humans. Her typical reactions to bigger attackers are using her Void Cubicle ability or flying someplace where she can hide. Fern has no problem fighting other tiny sentient devices, though.

Before Fern was sentient, Gelman bought her many peripherals; these items now form the bulk of her possessions. The most important item is her armored and padded case, complete with extra-thick plastic for her screen. Gelman has drilled holes into it for her arms and legs. The case gives Fern a +1 armor bonus when she wears it.

Abilities (77 CP)

Assistant (6 CP): Grants a +4 bonus when using “Aid Another” actions.

Contacts (3 CP): To stabilize her sentience, Fern had to return to Battling Business World. She spent her time there at Amarant Solutions’ Procurement Department. In addition to receiving vital socialization training, she made friends with some other sentient devices.

Enthusiast (1 CP): Specialized, only changes with access to appropriate skill programs.

Imp Enhancements:

• Innate Enchantments/Enhanced Processing and Effector Module (21 CP):

Enhance Intelligence (8400 GP): +4 Intelligence.

Fly (11200 GP): Fern has a fly speed of 60 ft.

Light Fortification (700 GP): If Fern is the the target of a critical hit or a sneak attack, she has a 25% chance of negating it and forcing her opponent to roll normal damage.

• Shapeshift/Sizeshifting (Fine to Huge, Hybrid Form, Clear Speech) with Bonus Uses, Specialized, Only to change size; does not grant size-based attribute modifiers (18 CP): Fern has a capability other sentient smartphones would kill for: she can change her size. She has no need to worry about climbing stairs or opening closed doors. Unfortunately, her mass does not increase, meaning that she does not become stronger or more durable.

Innate Spell/Void Cubicle, Specialized for Double Uses, must be within ground movement range of a clothed procurement specialist (6 CP): Fern has possessed a link to Gelman’s Ultimate Procurement ability for a long time, and now that she’s sentient, she’s gained control over it. This spell is a variant of rope trick that furnishes the extradimensional space. Only Fern can access it, but it requires climbing into a Battling Business World procurement specialist’s sleeve, pants leg, or pocket.

So, I got a reply to a posting that expressed interest and requested a photo. I sent one. The reply to that email was, “Sorry, but I’m looking for someone more tightly put together.”

What does that mean? I actually asked him that, and his response was, “why, do you know someone?”

What a way to avoid answering a simple question.

So, my ego is a little bruised (yes, I’m spoiled and expect everyone to love me). Does this mean I’m fat? Or, to be specific, that I’m seen as some type of BBW? Not that there is anything wrong with that…but plus sizes start at 14. I’m a size 10. I’d be laughed out of Lane Bryant in a heartbeat. So to be told by a potential suitor, after only seing a photo of me, that I’m “not a slender woman” is mildly irritating.

First of all, a woman with all natural 36DDD breasts usually isn’t a size 0. Secondly, I’m darn sexy!! I could be a sickly looking size 6, or an awesome and vibrant 10. I choose 10.

Granted, after I tore my ACL I became a tad more sedentary…but remedied the inevitable by getting a trainer. I’m  in pouting mode. Hopefully my jazz brunch date in the morning will lift my spirits

On a serious aside, I have to say that I’m not usually that sensitive. It is what it is. You either like me or not, think I’m sexy or not, and we all have preferences. However, my mom taught me that if I didn’t have anything nice to say, I should not say anything at all. I stick to that. I’m a nice girl. So, when a man who contacted me initially sends me a poorly toned email I have to wonder - was he born in a barn? What a sad state the world is in when manners are so handily unused.

Some of you may know that I am an avid supporter of the British Military.  I am a very proud ex-Army Brat (although some say once an Army Brat … always an Army Brat!) and will support our brave men and women as much and as far as possible.  I have been looking for an adult website/blog that focuses on or at least supports the British troops and have not been able to find one (If you know of one let me know!) and because of this have decided to start something on my blog.

Das neue Batteriegesetz (BattG) wurde am 30. Juni 2009 im Bundesgesetzblatt verkündet und tritt am 1. Dezember 2009 in Kraft. Das Gesetz setzt die europäische Batterie-Richtlinie um und löst die deutsche Batterieverordnung ab. Neben der bisher auch schon vorgesehenen Rücknahmepfllicht von Altbatterien durch den Handel, müssen sich die Hersteller und Importeure zukünftig für alle Batterien, die sie in Deutschland in Verkehr bringen, beim Umweltbundesamt (UBA) registrieren. Die konkreten Angaben der EU-einheitlichen Registrierung werden noch durch eine Rechtsverordnung geregelt. Erstmals werden verbindliche Sammelziele für handelsübliche Altbatterien formuliert (35 % bis 2012 sowie 45 % bis 2016). Das BattG gilt für alle Batterien, auch wenn sie in andere Produkte eingebaut oder anderen Produkten beigefügt sind. Es wird unterschieden nach Fahrzeug-, Industrie- und Gerätebatterien. Der Vertreiber muss die Arten von Altbatterien zurücknehmen, die er als Neubatterien im Sortiment hat. Im Versandhandel gilt neuerdings das Versandlager als Verkaufsstelle. Im Versandhandel sind die Hinweise zur Rückgabe der Altbatterien in den verwendeten Darstellungsmedien zu geben oder der Warensendung schriftlich beizufügen.

Für die unentgeltliche Abholung der Altbatterien im Handel ist weiterhin das von den Herstellern errichtete gemeinsame Rücknahmesystem (GRS, http://www.grs-batterien.de) oder ein herstellereigenes, offiziell genehmigtes Rücknahmesystem zuständig. Das GRS plant, für ihre Kunden die Anzeige der Marktteilnahme beim UBA zu übernehmen. Vertreiber und Zwischenhändler müssen Batterien von nicht registrierten Herstellern selbst registrieren und werden dadurch zum Hersteller. Das heißt, der Einzelhandel muss darauf achten, dass seine Batterie-Hersteller registriert sind. Das Umweltbundesamt wird auf einer Internetseite alle registrierten Hersteller veröffentlichen. Neu ist das Verbot für das Inverkehrbringen von Gerätebatterien, die mehr als 0,002 Gewichtsprozent Cadmium enthalten. Ausgenommen sind aber z.B. schnurlose Elektrowerkzeuge und weiteres. Die cadmiumhaltigen Batterien, die vor dem 1. Dezember 2009 in der EU in Verkehr gebracht wurden, dürfen unbegrenzt abverkauft werden. Die Anzeigepflicht für die Hersteller bzw. Importeure beginnt zwar am 1. Dezember 2009, jedoch gilt das Verbot, Batterien von nicht registrierten Herstellern zu verkaufen, erst ab dem 1. März 2010.
