It’s been a strange week really. I seem to have spent the week being confronted with the fact I’m still a lot more ill than I thought I was.

On Wednesday I had an appointment with Dr B. He’s another GP at my local practice and as Dr N is on holiday for two weeks I had to make do with him. He’s okay, but a little brisk. Every time I’ve seen him he’s made me do a PHQ9 form to assess my levels of depression. It’s similar to a BDI I guess, but with fewer questions and less detail. My score was in the twenties (out of 27), putting me in the severely depressed category. I knew I was still depressed but I’d kinda expected it to have moved into the moderately severe category by now. I do feel better than I did back in February. The depression is less absolute, but I can’t deny that I still think of death and suicide every day, I’m still not sleeping and I still feel pretty tired and down.

For curiosity’s sake I did a BDI as well. I ended up doing it twice as I find it so difficult to decide between answers. My pessimistic score (choosing the worse option if I couldn’t decide) was well over 50. My optimistic score (choosing the better option) was about 45. 30+ is classed as severe depression so it’s a pretty similar result to the PHQ9. It’s a vast improvement on the 60+ (out of 63!) I was scoring in February. I racked up one of the highest scores ever seen at The Priory back then, which is pretty scary really. The improvement is not enough though. How can this be recovery if I’m still in the severely ill category?

I don’t know if I am really severely depressed though, even if my scores say I am. I have been depressed for so much of my life I’m not sure if my results are skewed. I expect even when I’m what I’d describe as well, I’d still be scoring a mild depression score at least.

I was talking about this with a medic friend last night. We were talking about the GPs in the village and I mentioned I’d seen Dr B. She asked me what he was like and I basically said he was okay, but he asks me to do the PHQ9 whenever I see him. She said that GPs are obliged to demonstrate they are giving “adequate monitoring” to depression patients and the PHQ9 counts towards this. It’s interesting as I don’t remember ever doing one with Dr N. I guess he prefers to give adequate monitoring with actually asking me how I am, rather than getting me to select ticky boxes.

I mentioned my scores and how I wasn’t sure how accurate they were. She suggested that sometimes the scores can be a little skewed by insight and they often don’t reflect how well someone is functioning, which seems fair enough I guess. She said I’m clearly functioning a lot better than my scores suggest, which I think is true, but I guess that comes with years of practice in hiding things. I function in autopilot, hiding the thoughts, but the thoughts are still there.

To add further doubts to my idea of recovery I got a letter from the ESA decision maker yesterday. They are finally processing my application under the youth rules and the decision maker has sent the sheet explaining how much I will receive. Looking at it, I’m being paid the amount pertaining to the Support Group. I presume this means they have my medical result and not only have I passed, but I am deemed too unwell to even contemplate work and thus have been placed in the Support Group. This is a big surprise. I had worried so much that I wouldn’t even pass the medical, let alone be placed in the Support Group. I haven’t received the letter confirming my medical result yet, so I wouldn’t be surprised if this is wrong, but it shouldn’t be. I will be interested to see what score I actually received. Another set of points telling me how ill I am.

I don’t know how I feel about being in the Support Group though. In a way it is positive. It means I don’t need to do the pointless Pathways to Work interviews and I also get a little more money, which of course is good. It means there is no pressure to try and get back to work before I am ready. I will not be bullied by the DWP to do so.

At the same time though I can’t help but feel disappointed. I feel like I’ve been written off. I am too ill and disabled to even consider working. That’s something I can’t handle and really don’t want to admit. I want to get back to work and I want that to be something achievable in the near future. It makes me feel like this is all pointless. I want to be recovering and this makes me wonder if I really am. I had felt I was making progress, but that progress is clearly not enough. This is all just fuelling the “fuck it, this isn’t worth it” thoughts. I don’t want this.

I’m a little worried too and I almost feel guilty. I wonder whether this is the right decision. I kinda feel like I have cheated the system because I didn’t expect to pass the medical. I know how notorious these medicals are. I know that hardly anyone passes, let alone gets placed in the Support Group. I wonder why I have got through when so many others haven’t? Am I really that bad? I know I can be in denial and I guess in a way these doubts show that, but I am still unsure. It just feels a little wrong.

I wonder if this process is designed to make you feel guilty? There is such a stigma against incapacity benefits, that you feel awful to be claiming them, yet if you are entitled to, it would be stupid not to. There is so much attention paid to people that cheat the system that genuine claimants worry they will be tarred with the same brush. I had no intention of cheating the system and I didn’t do anything to do so. If anything I down played how bad things were. There was no exaggeration, yet I feel like I have cheated. Surely this is wrong? Surely I should just be glad that the right decision has been made? Yet the doctors at Atos have such a bad reputation I even question a positive decision.

One area that has definitely not recovered thus far are the shippers.  Beaten and torn on the financial rocks, many have seen their cargo rates fall to zero during the worst of the credit crisis and credit renegotiations seem ongoing.  However with the Dow going to 10,000 and everyone skipping through the Wall Street tulips lately, what about those sea Captains?  This from Reuters brings some good news of increasing rates [think of things being *less bad*] and while they’re still far from a safe harbor, would seem to imply that the worst is finally over for the seafaring folk.  So I wipe my brow and loosen my life vest.  While it may be a long slow voyage ahead to return to pre-crisis levels, at least the sharks don’t seem to be circling any longer.  [Full disclosure long DRYS as a drawer stock]

ผู้สื่อข่าวรายงานความเคลื่อนไหวหุ้นกลุ่มเดินเรือที่มีแรงซื้อขายเข้ามา อย่างหนาแน่น โดยเฉพาะหุ้น บริษัท โทรีเซนไทย เอเยนต์ซีส์ จำกัด (มหาชน) หรือ TTA เนื่องจากผลการดำเนินงานในไตรมาส 4 (ก.ค.-ก.ย.) ยังสามารถทำกำไรฟื้นตัวได้ต่อเนื่อง และยังมีราคาหุ้นต่ำกว่าบุ๊คแวลูที่ระดับ 36 บาท ขณะที่บริษัท อาร์ ซี แอล จำกัด (มหาชน) หรือ RCL จะมีแนวโน้มขาดทุนลดลงในไตรมาส 3 และราคาหุ้นยังต่ำกว่าบุ๊คแวลูที่ระดับ 21 บาท

โดยนักวิเคราะห์บริษัทหลักทรัพย์  เคจีไอ  (ประเทศไทย) จำกัด กล่าวว่า ขณะนี้ถือเป็นจังหวะที่เหมาะกับการทยอยเข้าเก็งกำไรระยะสั้นสำหรับกลุ่มเรือ เทกอง โดยในไตรมาส 4 เป็นระดับต่ำสุดของ BDI ซึ่งน่าจะอยู่ในช่วงระหว่าง 2,000-2,200 จุด และภายในช่วงปลายปีนี้จะมีโอกาสปรับเพิ่มขึ้นได้ถึงระดับสูงสุดจำนวน   3,000  จุด  นอกจากนี้ โอกาสที่ BDI จะปรับตัวลดลงต่ำกว่าระดับ 2 พันจุด ค่อนข้างมีจำกัด หลังจากความต้องการใช้เรือเทกองเริ่มปรับตัวขึ้นตามทิศทางการฟื้นตัวของภาวะ เศรษฐกิจโลก

“ช่วงนี้เป็นโอกาสที่จะทยอยเข้าเก็งกำไรระยะสั้นสำหรับเรือเทกอง เพราะมองว่า BDI แถวระดับ 2 พันกว่าจุด น่าจะเป็นจุดต่ำสุดแล้ว ส่วนจุดสูงสุดแถวระดับ 3,000 จุดน่าจะเห็นได้ในช่วงปลายปีนี้”นักวิเคราะห์กล่าว

สำหรับสถานการณ์การนำเข้าสินแร่เหล็กในปัจจุบัน พบว่าผู้นำเข้าสินแร่เหล็กรายใหญ่อย่างจีน เริ่มอยู่ในภาวะชะลอนำเข้าสินแร่เหล็ก หลังจากมีปริมาณสต็อคอยู่แล้วเป็นจำนวนมาก และต้องการใช้สต็อกสินแร่เหล็กในราคาต่ำที่ได้ทยอยนำเข้าไปเสียก่อน

อย่างไรก็ตาม  ถึงแม้ประเทศจีนจะชะลอการนำเข้าสินแร่เหล็ก  แต่ในประเทศอื่นเริ่มกลับมากักตุนสินแร่เหล็กแทน  อีกทั้งสัญญาณการฟื้นตัวของความต้องการใช้เหล็กทั่วโลก ได้ส่งผลให้กลุ่มผู้ผลิต (โดยเฉพาะในสหรัฐ ยุโรปและญี่ปุ่น) ต่างประกาศเพิ่มการใช้กำลังการผลิต จึงส่งผลถึงแนวโน้มการขนส่งวัตถุดิบที่เกี่ยวข้องอาทิเช่น สินแร่เหล็ก และถ่านหิน ปรับเพิ่มขึ้นตาม

“จีนเริ่มชะลอการนำเข้า  แต่ประเทศอื่นก็เริ่มกลับมาสต็อกเพิ่มเช่นกัน  ซึ่งจะช่วยสนับสนุนต่อความต้องการใช้เรือขนส่งต่อไปอีกได้ แต่ยังคงไม่ใช่สูงจนหวือหวา เพราะแต่ละประเทศก็ต่างค่อยๆ ทยอยฟื้นตัว”นักวิเคราะห์กล่าว

สำหรับผลการดำเนินงานในไตรมาส  4 ของ TTA ประเมินว่า น่าจะทำกำไรสุทธิใกล้เคียงไตรมาส 3 ที่ได้ระดับ 355 ล้านบาท หรือ ปรับเพิ่มขึ้นหรือลดลงไม่เกิน 5% หลังความต้องการใช้เรือเทกองและธุรกิจของเมอร์เมดยังมีอัตราการใช้งานที่ไม่ แตกต่างจากช่วงไตรมาส 3 มากนัก โดยแนะนำ “ซื้อ” TTA ให้ราคาเป้าหมายอยู่ที่ระดับ 33 บาท

ขณะที่ผลการดำเนินงานไตรมาส 3 ของ RCL จะมีแนวโน้มขาดทุนลดลงจากไตรมาส 2 ที่อยู่ระดับ 289 ล้านบาท และจะขาดทุนลดลงอย่างต่อเนื่องในไตรมาส 4 ก่อนจะมีโอกาสพลิกเป็นกำไรได้ในช่วงผลการดำเนินงานปี 2553 แนะนำ “ซื้อ” ให้ราคาเป้าหมาย 14 บาท

“ผลการดำเนินงานในไตรมาส 4 ของ TTA น่าจะใกล้เคียงกับไตรมาส 3 หรือ บวกลบไม่เกิน 5% ซึ่งเป็นอัตราการใช้เรือของบริษัทยังไม่มีการเปลี่ยนแปลงมากนัก ส่วน RCL แม้จะยังขาดทุนแต่ก็ยังน่าสนใจ  โดยไตรมาส  3-4  จะเริ่มขาดทุนลดลงได้ต่อเนื่อง”นักวิเคราะห์กล่าว

ด้านนายกวี  มานิตสุภวงษ์  ผู้อำนวยการฝ่ายวิจัยไทยบริษัทหลักทรัพย์  เอเซียพลัส จำกัด  (มหาชน) ได้เคยประเมินว่า กำไรสุทธิไตรมาส 4 ของ TTA จะอยู่ที่ระดับ 5-6 ร้อยล้านบาท ปรับเพิ่มขึ้นจากไตรมาสแรกที่ได้ 352 ล้านบาท เนื่องจากได้รับผลประโยชน์จากธุรกิจของเมอร์เมดที่กลับมาทำรายได้สูงและมี อัตราการใช้เรือถึง 80% ส่วนรายได้ทั้งปีจะอยู่ที่ระดับ 20,059 ล้านบาทปรับลดลงจากเดิมที่ได้ 34,393 ล้านบาท และมีกำไรสุทธิ 1,896 ล้านบาท ปรับลดลงจากเดิมที่ได้ 8,776 ล้านบาท แนะนำ “ซื้อ” ราคาเป้าหมาย 31.70 บาท

ส่วน RCL จะมีโอกาสพลิกเป็นกำไรได้ในช่วงไตรมาส 4 โดยหลังจากฟื้นตัวของภาคการค้าทั่วโลก    และจากยอดคำสั่งซื้อผลิตภัณฑ์ในกลุ่มอิเล็คทรอนิคส์   และกลุ่มยานยนต์ ได้เริ่มสะท้อนให้เห็นถึงสัญญาณการฟื้นตัว    ทำให้คาดว่าปริมาณความต้องการขนส่งสินค้าทางเรือในช่วงครึ่งปีหลังจะกลับมา ฟื้นตัวอย่างมีนัยสำคัญ และผลักดันให้ผลการดำเนินงานของ RCL  พลิกฟื้นกลับมามีกำไรได้อีกครั้งตั้งแต่งวดไตรมาส 4 เป็นต้นไป แนะนำ “ซื้อลงทุนระยะยาว” ราคาเป้าหมาย 13.10 บาท ประเมินรายได้ทั้งปี 15,541 ล้านบาท และขาดทุนสุทธิ 1,101 ล้านบาท ขาดทุนเพิ่มขึ้นจากเดิมที่ได้ 837 ล้านบาท

With a Bertie Wooster novel (or story collection) in hand, a plump pillow at neck, and trained cats at your beck and call, the world is your oyster. The Bluebird of Happiness has settled in for a longish visit.

Leave it to others to climb the Himalayas for guroid advice. You, scrunch down with Right Ho, Jeeves or Jeeves and the Feudal Spirit and read your way to a good night’s sleep, untroubled dreams, a fresh mind upon waking, confidence in you capabilities, a spring in your step, a gleam in your eyes (and teeth), a mien bordering on arrogance, an insouciant barking laugh, an impregnable optimism, a cheerful tune on your lips, and pocketsful of coin to spend as your warbling heart desires. This I guarantee.

If you don’t believe me, take the 7 day challenge: Begin by self-administering the Beck Depression Inventory test. During the week immediately following the BDI, read Wodehouse for one half hour nightly before retiring. Finally, re-adminster the Beck Depression Inventory. Kvetch. Mewl.

Juuri asentamani Spotify soittaa taustalla Soundgardenia ja naputtelen elokuun kuukausikatsausta blogiin. Pitäisi vielä hakea lasi punaviiniä mutta olkoon nyt. Elokuu oli aika hieno kuukausi sijoitusmielessä, salkku nousi 9% ja on nyt jo 47% korkeammalla kuin viime vuoden lopulla ja vuoden korkeimmissa lukemissa ollaan. Elokuun aikana salkku myös nousi maaliskuun pohjiin nähden tuplaksi. Melkoista nousua siis puolen vuoden aikana. Blogissakin tehtiin uusi kävijäennätys 11 470 eri käyntiä elokuun aikana.Heinäkuun kuukausikatsauksessa arvelinkin että hyvä kuukausi tästä tulee.

Kaupankäyntiaktiviteetti vilkastui elokuussa. Tuli jopa tehtyä pari myyntiä sillä hankkiuduin eroon Componentan osakkeista tappiolla ja Wärtsilän osakkeista voitolla. Ostin Nokiaa lisää sekä annin kautta IFN ETF:ää ja tässä ihan kuun loppumetreillä tuli hankittua vähän Stockkan markkareita sen verran lisää että voin merkata sopivan lisäerän Stockkaa. Kauppojen ja pienen palkkatililtä tehdyn pienen tilisiirron jälkeen salkun velkavipu laski ja salkussa on velkaa enää 3.6%.

Salkun sankariosakkeita elokuussa olivat:

• Fortum +12%
• Pohjola +11%

Nokiaan jouduin jälleen pettynyt. Se alisuorittaa ja markkina-arvo laahaa. No nousi se sentään vajaa 4% mutta se ei riitä. Nokia laskee salkkuni tuottoa koska on salkkuni suurimmalla painolla. Nokia kyllä julkisti aika mullistavia uutuuksia ja uusia konsepteja. Tuo tietää hyvää ja Nokia Worldsissä voi tulla lisää. Tätä kirjoittaessa syyskuun 1. päivänä kello 21:52 näyttäisi Nokia olevan NYSEssä 4.85% laskussa. Syyskuu alkoi laajalla laskulla ja pitäähän toki sen Nokian näyttää muille laskijoille mallia.

Muutama miinuksellekin mennyt lappu mahtui joukkoon. Eniten laski IFN ETF 12%, FXI ETF 6% ja PDB 2%. Ei ollut ETF:lle kovin vahva kuukausi siis. Kiinaa ja Brasiliaa pitäisi kyllä tankata lisää.

Dollari vahvistui hieman kuukauden aikana ja yhdellä eurolla saa enää vain 1.4199 dollaria. Kuten heinäkuun kuukausikatsauksessa arvelinkin. Öljyn hinta on ollut välillä päälle 70 dollarin ja nyt on inaus vaja 70 dollaria. Korot laskivat edelleen Suomessa. 12kk euribor on enää vain vähän päälle 1.3%. BDI on elokuussa laskenut hieman. Indekseistä HEX Cap indeksi vahvistui n. 10%, Nasdaq composite ja Sepe500 nousivat vain inauksen. HEXissä oli siis vahva kuukausi.

Kuukauden aikana talouskäännettä indikoivia merkkejä tuli lisää vaikkakin USAsta saatiin odotettua huonompia kuluttajaluottamuslukuja.

Syyskuusta voi tulla hankala kuukausi. Se on perinteisesti ollut yksi huonoimmista pörssikuukausista. Viime syyskuussa oman salkkuni arvo tippui 20%, sitä edellisenä tosin noustiin 27% mikä onkin yhden kuukauden nousuennätys tämän blogin aikana. Markkinoilla on aistittavissa hieman pelkoa, sisäpiiri myy omistuksiaan lehtitietojen mukaan ja markkina on noussut reippaasti. Onko syyskuu voittojen kotiutuskuukausi? Minulla ei ole myyntisuunnitelmia. Sensijaan Stockkan merkkaamisen lisäksi saatan ostaa EWZ tai FXI ETF:ää. Alku ainakin on murheellinen. Kaikki salkkuni laput ovat enemmän tai vähemmän pakkasella syyskuun ensimmäisenä pörssipäivänä.

Letzte Woche ließ sich in einem Artikel zu den neuesten Forderungen des BDI nachlesen, was den deutschen Industriekapitän drückt, wenn er des Nachts schweißgebadet aus einem Alptraum erwacht; nämlich “dass die Versorgungslage bei Metallen wie Chrom, Platin, Niob, Molybdän, Zirkon und Tantal besonders kritisch sei.” Deutschlands Rohstoffsicherheit ist in Gefahr – und damit wieder einmal “tausende Arbeitsplätze”!

Nicht nur wegen der Auskünfte über den emotionalen Zustand der deutschen Wirtschaft – von “Sorge” und “Schrecken” ist die Rede – ist der Text lesenswert, sondern auch wegen der offenen Art, mit der die Anforderungen der Industrie an die deutsche Rohstoffstrategie präsentiert werden. Gänzlich unkritisch listet das Handelsblatt die BDI-Forderungen auf:

“Der Abbau von Rohstoffen in Deutschland soll auch in Naturschutzgebieten möglich werden, zumindest zeitweise und unter Auflagen. Lagerstätten sollen ausgewiesen werden.”

Ohne Worte.

“Die deutsche Entwicklungspolitik soll auch die Exploration von und den Zugang zu Rohstoffvorkommen fördern. Sie soll Entwicklungspolitik und Investitionsvorhaben verknüpfen.”

Interessante Idee, allerdings ist sie entwicklungstheoretisch etwa auf dem Stand von 1960. Inzwischen ist in Wirtschafts- und Politikwissenschaft längst der “Ressourcenfluch” zum geflügelten Wort geworden. Erwiesen ist: Länder, die hauptsächlich auf den Export von Rohstoffen setzen, sind im Schnitt weniger demokratisch, leiden öfter unter gewaltsamen Konflikten und schneiden sogar wirtschaftlich schlechter ab.

“Zudem soll die erneute Verschuldung von Entwicklungsländern verhindert werden – weil dies in Abhängigkeit von großen Geberländern wie China führt.”

Kaum vorstellbar, dass der BDI damit den Abbau von Schulden meint, die durch schlechte Exportbedingungen entstanden sind. Häufig dürfen Entwicklungsländer nur unverarbeitete Rohstoffe exportieren (die weniger Gewinn bringen), auf weiterverarbeitete Produkte gibt es in Industrieländern hohe Importzölle. Aber deswegen schreibt der BDI ja auch nur von “Verhinderung” – und meint damit vermutlich die verheerenden “Strukturanpassungsprogramme” des IWF.

“Die Politik soll gegen Handelsbeschränkungen bei Rohstoffen vorgehen.”

Wenig überraschend: Wieder einmal wird freie Fahrt für deutsche Konzerne gefordert, um sich wertvolle Märkte sichern zu können. Interessant aber besonders im Zusammenspiel mit der letzten Forderung:

“Der illegale Export von Metallabfällen soll gestoppt werden, um Stoffe wieder verstärkt in Deutschland recyceln zu können.”

Denn wenn es keine Handelsbeschränkungen mehr geben soll – wie können Exporte dann illegal sein?

Also, was wollen die denn nun? – Nun ja, Angst führt oft zu irrationalen Reaktionen…
