Meet Deputy Dog!

Howdy, I’m Deputy Dog. That may sound like a cartoon character but I am a real dog. I got my name because I have a star on my chest, just like a badge. I may not be a cartoon, but I am a character. I have this uncanny ability to win everyone over. People want to hug me, just like Pluto at Disneyland, who I’m told is a cartoon character. I’m just a big, loveable beagle who likes everyone and everyone likes me. Take me anywhere and find out. I’m up to date on all my vaccinations and ready to patrol my own forever home. Come and meet me and I will arrest your heart.

Editor’s Note: I have a soft spot for beagles.  After writing this post, I may just snatch him up before anyone else takes him.  At least to foster…better move quickly

We’ve had warm days with bright blue skies, crisp mornings and cool evenings. As soon as the sun disappears over the horizon there’s a chill in the air and we have been wrapping up, and snuggling under our huge quilt on the sofa. The smell of wood burners burning in our neighbours homes have been making us a tad jealous, but we don’t exactly have a shortage of warm knits and coats having come from the UK, so we’re quite happy.

I think that Autumn might in fact be my favourite season. It’s not too cold except for a few days here and there, and during the day you can go out without the fear of being too hot or looking like you’re melting, before, you’ve even stepped out the house. It’s definitely a nice change which I am enjoying.

We have been walking the Beagle to the beach, in fact I took him to THE beach were he injured his leg over 6 months ago now and he was fine, he had a great time running around with three other doggies including one lemon Beagle.

We have been kayaking some more, well Steve mostly as I’ve had a cold. He competed in a competition last weekend for the first time in over 10 years. its bringing a lot of nice memories flooding back. A few nights ago we went paddling in very stormy weather, I was not a happy bunny as I couldn’t see the shallows and the buoys without my glasses, but we got back ok and I felt great in my new boat.

I have been thinking a lot, writing down ideas, carrying on my search for yarn and I think I have found a supplier, at last so I’m waiting for a yarn and colour card, fingers crossed.

I have been working out the maths to make my Ikat inspired pattern jacket. After knitting more colour ways I have decided on the first one I tried, navy with off-white & gold, so I’m hoping to get that knitted in the next few days.

One more week and we’re on holiday, including a few days in Byron Bay so I’ll definitely be taking photos and posting them on here. It can rain all it wants now and then we’re hoping for some more dry spells as we’re camping

Here I am, minding my own business.

Dear Kind & Gentle Readers -

I got tricked!!!  Yes, I got tricked.  Wait until you hear what Mom and Dad did to me this time.

It started innocently enough.  After the grand morning ritual of the giving of the treats, Mom let me back outside again.  I was so happy!  It was a nice day out and there were lots of little boys to bark at as they walked to the bus stop.

Then Mom comes around to the side gate, whispers my name, and rattles my harness.  Oh wow, wow, wow.  I’m going for a walk!  Or to daycare!  No, a walk!  Check pee-mail!  Joy, joy, joy.  Can you tell how excited I was?  And I was alone – no sharing Mom with any of my brothers.  Little did I know that was by design, until it was too late.

I’m so excited! Mom has my harness and I’m going for a walk!! Or something!!

So Mom let me out and I ran up and down the fence as fast as I could, but finally I was a good boy and let her put my harness on.  Dad was waiting by the car and more wow!!  Now, I’m going with Dad in the car.  I just excited and excited and excited.

We got out of the car and I hop, skip and run in the building with Dad.  Uh-oh.  Brake time.  This isn’t daycare!  And sure isn’t a walk!  Nooooooooooooooooooo.   I’m at the vet!!!!!

Bad Dad! I’ve been betrayed!!

Dad gave me to the torturers, who put me a cage.  Eventually I was too sleepy to stay awake and the next thing I know, my mouth hurts and so does the back of my neck.  Ewww!  My teeth got cleaned and a lump on the back of my neck is gone now.  Double icky!  My neck got shaved and the stitches itch, but Mom and Dad won’t scratch it for me.  At least I don’t have to wear a bozo collar.

I don’t care if it’s for my own good.  I don’t care if the vet says it was good the lump was taken off while it was still small.  Don’t care don’t care don’t care.  I wanted a walk and I didn’t get one.  In fact, I didn’t feel good when Dad put me back in the car.  I didn’t throw up, but I think I walked into a wall.  And the couch seemed to be a long way up from the ground.

How come I need a nap after I go to the vet?

So that was my big adventure.  And let me tell you, it stunk.  It was like getting a bath but worse.  I mean, was that fair?  Hellooooooo – a harness means a walk!!  Don’t you people know that?

Mom was nice to me later (take note Dad – you could have given me more treats to make it up to me.  A lot more treats.  But did you?  No.)  She stroked my head, cooed at me and told me what a good boy it was.  How could I resist melting in her hands?  I love it when she uses that special tone of voice and looks in my eyes.

Leave me alone. I’m tired and crabby. Go away.

But dear readers – you can help me out.  Yes, you.  Am I not pitiful?  And deserving of treats?  So send treats.  Lots of them.  Oh, wait, Mom just said something to me.  WHAT?????  I’m too fat already?   But I need treats!  Uh-oh.  Mom just said no.  No – wait – don’t take the keyboard away – I promise to be good – no asking for treats.

Dad!  Dad!  Mom’s nuts!  Let me out in the yard – now.  Yes, now.  Hurry up man and get that door open!

Gotta go!  Be good and don’t get in trouble with Mom about treats.

The Beagle

This morning, however, as I was pooping outside…..there was a piece of LONG HAIR in my poop (yup you can guess whose is it….the witch with the long hair)!!!! And the piece of long hair was stuck halfway out of my gross butthole with poop hanging on to it. I panicked because it was like a piece of poop that can never drop out of your butthole!! So I quickly ran back to the patio and dragged my butt around the floor while my human mom went to get some paper to wipe my butt. And pieces of poop just fell about all over the floor. Oh boy, she sure was horrified when she saw the mess. But she calmly cleaned my butt even with the pieces of poop lying around. And as she was wiping my butt, I saw a big, yummy morsel of poop in front of my face and I just couldn’t resist it!!! The temptation was too great!!!!!!! The SMELL was so glorious!!!!! It was warm, moist, and full of aroma, just the way I like it. I tried so hard to look away but I couldn’t! So I opened my mouth and quickly gobbled up that delicious piece of poop with visible orange bits of carrots in it. I did it so fast in a split second before mom could scream “nooooooooooooo!!!” with her shrill voice. I sure was satisfied with myself for what I’ve done, but I’m really puzzled why my mom hated it. She avoided me (and particularly my kisses) after the incident, and kept giving me those chew sticks for cleaning my teeth. I didn’t mind getting those delicious sticks to chew on, but I really so badly wanted to kiss and lick her to thank her!!!! But she kept holding me away at arm’s length. She even said I had poop breath! Wait, isn’t that supposed to be attractive???

Humans sure don’t have a clue on how to appreciate good stuff!

Poops aside, I got to go out for a walk today because the weather was much milder today. It has either been raining or scorching hot for the past few days. I saw another dog on the other side of the road who was twice my size, and I barked my head off at him. His owner thought I was some vicious crazy dog, so she walked him further away. I was so disappointed…. I just wanted to say hello!! He didn’t look too interested though.

I’m so tired I’ll just spend the rest of the evening cuddling up to my human. I hope she’s starting to like my “poop breath” now.

Caught her at a barbeque we had, eyeing up the meringue! She does not even chew things she manages to steal, just swallows them whole.

I am so pleased that we made a decision to get a family dog, as it has encouraged us to explore the forest around us. I am sure that we would have walked and sought out paths and routes but having our beloved Beagle Jess, means that each and every day we HAVE to take time out to walk her. Even on days like today when the rain has pounded down non-stop we braved the elements and enjoyed a soggy ramble. Some of the paths we tread are photographed and I am sharing them with you now. For some reason, I tend to not hang about for photo opportunities often in the rain, perhaps that is what I should now challenge myself to do – some  wet weather photography!

The very picturesque place that is Casa San Miguel in San Antonio, Zambales. This is definitely how I would love for my dream vacation house to look like.

Some of the books I’ve read this summer so far! Caved in one day and decided to go to the nearby Fully Booked for some (guilt-free, mind you) book shopping spree. After all, what’s summer without some really good reads?

These are just half of the food/drinks that I’ve tried out for the first time this summer. It’s too bad I wasn’t able to take pictures of the other delish stuff I’ve tried in buffets and such.

Motivational typography that helped me get through my freshman year of college + this summer semester.

First I’ll start with our Puppy Class we attended on Tuesday. It was brilliant! 6 other dogs were there 1 other newbie like us. We started by learning what we had missed last week so we could catch up with the rest of the class. They taught us lay which we had already learnt at Puppy Party so we were already up to the same level as the class. We then each had a go at recall. We used our shaky pot and Alfie came back which was great! There was a TINY little ShiTzu puppy called Water who took all of 5 minutes to come out of her hiding place and finally sprint over to her owner where she hid between her legs. At least we weren’t quite as bad as poor little Water.

We were reunited with Maisy the Black Lab who attended the Puppy Party with us!

The Puppy Class gave us homework! In the class we were taught how to ‘Roll-Over’ so our homework was to perfect it. Alfie is getting the hang of it but sometimes gets stranded on his back making him look very funny!

On Wednesday there was a bit of sofa sunbathing;

On Friday we had a TV catastrophe. We had never had a problem with the wires behind the TV as they aren’t easily accessible. However Alfie found a way. If we are all eating dinner he will more often than not do something a little naughty to get out attention. It is usually something like dragging a shoe along the floor. However this time we finished dinner, went to play with him and found him in the middle of the floor chomping on a wire. We immediately took it away from him, very shocked, and went to look which wire he had pulled apart.
Now, there are 9 wires behind our TV. 3 of which have very low voltage. In other words only 3 would not have killed him. Out of pure luck he chose to chomp through one of those 3!

We have now blocked all the wires off and *touch wood* he will not go for the wires again.

Training update:
Sitting by the road: We wanted to start this so that he would wait until it was safe to cross before he would stand up and walk. This way we could be sure he was safe. For this he is ¾ Complete sometimes he will refuse to sit or sit for 2 seconds then stand up thinking he can cross.
Roll-Over: This was our homework from the Puppy Class. If he is the best in the class he will win a prize! He is √ Complete on this!
