Je travaille à La Chronique de Paris qui est maintenant dirigée par Balzac qui est un bon gros porc très plein d’esprit et très agréable à vivre.

Parmi les amitiés littéraires chères et constantes de Balzac, on retrouve (outre Victor Hugo) le poète et romancier Théophile Gautier (1811-1872). C’est à la demande de Balzac que les deux hommes vont se rencontrer en 1835 (Jules Sandeau sera l’entremetteur) ; en effet le grand Honoré (il a alors déjà publié ses deux plus grands succès : La Peau de chagrin et Le Père Goriot) a lu Mademoiselle de Maupin (l’héroïne de Beatrix se nomme d’ailleurs Camille Maupin, en référence ?) et souhaite en rencontrer l’auteur. La rencontre se fait donc, puis Balzac propose à Gautier de collaborer à la revue La Chronique de Paris. Balzac a sollicité Gautier à l’occasion, l’invitant à faire avancer quelque projet ou lui demandant des poèmes (cf. La Tulipe dans Illusions Perdues), Balzac étant un piètre versificateur. Gautier, aurait essayé d’initier Balzac aux paradis artificiels dans les années 1840, mais Balzac, peu intéressé par la chose s’est cantonné au café comme drogue. Gautier est l’auteur d’une des premières biographies de Balzac.

What am I thankful for?

First let me say that I absolutely hate questions like this. For me it’s just like “What did you do over the summer?” It’s a prepackaged question with silly, cliché answers. You know what teacher? You don’t really care that I went to the beach and got a sunburn and read 14 books and played Duck Hunt until my eyes bled, etc. You just want me to keep quiet for a little while answering your perennial question on wide rule paper.

That being said I do have quite a lot to be thankful for. I have a good job. Right now just about any job is a good job but I’d put mine ahead of most. I get paid a nice salary to do a job that I don’t hate. The people I work with are all good, funny, and genuine people. I even like my bosses. All three of them.

My personal life is pretty good, too. I have a beautiful, funny, smart wife who is hands down my best friend in this world. I have a very loving and only mildly dysfunctional family. They have been as good to me as anyone could hope. I have the best group of friends anyone could hope for. They’re all good people and funny as hell. I just wish we were able to see them more often.

All of these things were Thanksgiving-worthy last year. And the year before. And the year before that. And as great as all of those things are, I’m not the sort to get weepy about them. I’m just not very sentimental.

And then something else happened…

This little girl. She has turned me into a quivering bowl of daddy mush. I am well and truly wrapped around this little girl’s finger. She’s my princess even as I try to be her court jester.

This Thanksgiving I am thankful for all of my coworkers, family, and friends, and most especially my lovely wife. But I think they all understand that I am most thankful for this little girl on her first Thanksgiving.

De koningin geeft de Tweede Kamerleden na tien jaar een nieuwe kans om een open gesprek met haar te voeren, maar deze kans wordt verspeeld. Dit keer door Arend Jan Boekestijn van de VVD. Tien jaar geleden is het staatshoofd gestopt met het voeren van deze informele gesprekken met leden van het parlement. Toen was er ook al een loslippig Tweede Kamerlid die de gesprekken met de koningin niet geheim kon houden.

Boekestijn is natuurlijk meteen op het matje geroepen bij de partijleiding van de VVD, waarna hij ‘vrijwillig’ is afgetreden. De Rijksvoorlichtingsdienst heeft laten weten dat de informele gesprekken met kamerleden gewoon doorgaan. Gelukkig maar.

Dit is niet de eerste keer dat Boekestijn laat zien erg spraakzaam te zijn. Hieronder een fragment uit 2008 waar hij na afloop van een aflevering van VARA’s De Wereld Draait Door, zijn mond voorbij praat:

“Arend Jan Boekestijn is woensdagavond opgestapt als Tweede Kamerlid voor de VVD. Hij had eerder op de avond, na afloop van een vertrouwelijk gesprek met Koningin Beatrix en andere leden van de Tweede Kamer, voor de camera van RTL Nieuws gezegd dat de koningin zich zorgen maakt over de hypes en de vele spoeddebatten waardoor de Tweede Kamer zich te veel zou laten meeslepen..” (blik op nieuws.nl)

Dat Koningin Beatrix zich zorgen maakt over de dagelijkse gang van zaken in de 2e kamer, kan ik me wel voorstellen, maar het is toch een nieuwigheidje dat de parlementariers ten paleize worden genodigd om direct uit de mond van het staatshoofd te horen, dat hun gedrag moet veranderen.

One of my earliest memories is of Christmas. And its not the stupidly early Christmas decorations that reminded me of that particular Christmas. It was my daughter. And a horse.

A couple of weeks ago my mom came over after work to spend some time with Beatrix. I think Erin may have had class or something. Before we changed Beatrix into her pajamas and put her to sleep mom did something I didn’t expect.

“Follow me. I want to show you something.” She picked up Beatrix and took her back to the nursery without waiting to see if I would follow.

When I got back into the room Beatrix was propped up on my old wooden rocking horse, mom holding her hands onto the handles, rocking. And laughing. And smiling. They were both smiling.

My old rocking horse. I can remember Christmas morning, coming down the steps, blue bath robe flapping behind me like Adam West’s cape. That horse was waiting for me like Secretariat in the starting gate. I think I was five. That would have been 1984.

That was also the Christmas that my brother helped me put together my G.I. Joe tank and helicopter. So, I guess he hadn’t left for the Air Force, yet. All of these memories are fuzzy. I’m not sure about the year. I’m not even really sure how much is accurate and how much is figment.

I do know that I like those memories and that they are happy and good. I think everyone should have those kind of happy memories about their family and about Christmas. When I think of Christmas that morning is the scene that plays in my mind. For that I am thankful and fortunate.

So now it’s up to me to try to make good memories for Beatrix. Seeing her laugh and giggle riding my rocking horse — he has been renamed Sparkles — makes me think she might have a good shot at it.

Goed nieuws na de eerste opening in Londen in 2002 was het iedere voorstelling vollebak, geen wonder dat de show navolging kreeg in andere landen.

Momenteel is de show te zien in Melbourne, Madrid, Perth, Brisbane,Las Vegas, Sydney, Moskou, Keulen, Spanje (tournee door het land), Tokyo, Johannesburg, Cape Town, UK (landerlijke tournee) en uiteraard Londen.

Ook heeft het meerdere records gebroken o.a. het langst lopende show op West-End is inmiddels door meer dan 10 miljoen mensen gezien, en eindelijk komt de show naar Nederland.
De productie zal geproduceerd worden door Joop van den Ende Theaterproducties en zal te zien zijn in het Beatrix theater in Utrecht. Een in mijn ogen een goede lokatie in het midden van het land vlakbij het Centraal station.

De musical, die in het theater-seizoen 2010/2011 in première gaat, is
een coproductie in samenwerking met QUEEN Theatrical Productions en
Michael Brenner. Wie de hoofdrollen gaan vertolken is nog niet bekend. De audities starten deze maand.

“We zijn blij dat we de grootste wereldwijde hit van dit moment We Will
Rock You naar Nederland kunnen halen. Het is een productie die goed
past bij de succestitels die eerder in het Beatrix Theater stonden
zoals Saturday Night Fever, Dirty Dancing en nu JOSEPH and the Amazing
Technicolor Dreamcoat. Dat de muziek van We Will Rock You van de
legendarische popgroep QUEEN afkomstig is en de oorspronkelijke
bandleden Brian May en Roger Taylor zo nauw betrokken zijn bij het
creatieve proces van deze productie maakt het extra inspirerend”.

En 1832, au moment de cette joute verbale entre George Sand et Honoré de Balzac, les deux écrivains sont au début de leur carrière (Balzac veut alors forcer sa consoeur à lire les rabelaisiens Contes drolatiques, ce qui entraînera cet échange d’amabilités) et d’une relation (platonique) qui durera jusqu’à la mort du grand (sic) Honoré.

G. Sand et H. de Balzac se rencontrent à Paris en 1831 par l’intermédiaire de Jules Sandeau (autre romancier de l’époque et qui donnera son nom à Sand et qui co-écrit sous le nom de Jules Sand, à 4 mains avec la future George, le roman Rose et Blanche). G. Sand sera à l’origine de plusieurs romans de Balzac (ceux sur la musique ou La muse du département par exemple). En 1838, Balzac va jusque chez George Sand à Nohant, dans le Berry où ils discutent beaucoup. Il dit alors : J’ai plus vécu pendant ces trois ou quatre causeries, le mors aux dents, que je n’avais vécu depuis longtemps. Il reviendra du Berry avec un roman presque tout fait, Beatrix, où il raconte, suite à des confidences de G. Sand, la relation entre le pianiste Liszt (Conti dans le roman) et Marie d’Agoult (Beatrix dans le roman). On y reconnaît aussi George Sand sous les trait de Félicité des Touches (artiste et écrivain dont le pseudonyme est Camille Maupin), une femme très masculine, s’habillant en pantalon, fumant le houka (tout cela caractérise la réelle George Sand) et … conseillant les romans d’une certaine George Sand a son beau protégé, Calyste.

Iedereen in Nederland en de EU lijkt het er over eens dat Balkenende de eerste President van Europa wordt. Nu is dat helemaal geen gekke gedachte en voor Nederland zeker geen slechte positie. Een Nederlander als baas van Europa is altijd mooi en voor iedereen (meer dan de helft van de Nederlanders) die nieuwe verkiezingen wilt komt dit ook goed uit.

Maar juist deze ‘voordeeltjes’ maken de kans eigenlijk aanzienlijk kleiner dat Balkenende daadwerkelijk weg gaat. Als u rekening houdt met de volgende feiten en het daaropvolgende scenario bekijkt, hoe denkt u daar dan over?

De situatie in politiek Den Haag is op dit moment alles behalve stabiel. Door de centrifugaal krachten zijn veel kiezers naar ‘radicale’ partijen gestapt. Waarmee een goede samenwerking in een volgende coalitie vrij ingewikkeld wordt. Door de vele twijfelachtige acties van leden van het Koninklijkhuis is de draagkracht onder de bevolking voor de monarchie ook ver gedaald. Met als gevolg dat dit in vervroegde verkiezingen nog wel eens als speerpunt door de SP en PVV gebruikt kan worden. De combinatie van anti monarchistische sentimenten onder het volk en de twijfel op een honderd procent royalistisch Kabinet doet de vraag rijzen wat Beatrix wil. Balkenende moet zijn ontslag bij haar indienen en zij kan dit gewoon botweg weigeren. Dit onder de noemer ‘Landsbelang’. De truc dat Verhagen doorschuift naar positie van Premier zal door de Kamer waarschijnlijk niet getolereerd worden, Beatrix zal daar dan ook niet op gokken. Dus bij vertrek van Balkenende zullen vrijwel zeker nieuwe verkiezingen uitgeschreven worden. Daarbij komt ook nog dat Beatrix op dit moment de belangrijkste Nederlander is. Zij heeft uiteindelijk op papier de meeste macht, wanneer Balkenende naar Europa gaat valt hij onder haar macht weg en is dus de enige Nederlander die meer macht heeft dan Beatrix. Zal zij dit accepteren?

Wordt Balkenende het niet, dan zal waarschijnlijk de vorige President van Letland EU president worden.

After years of construction the new metro station is open in Rotterdam Central Station. The newplatform is a respite for travellers. High ceilings, white walls and a lot of bright and even colourful lights give the platforms a fresh and modern appearance. This in combination with the fact that the platforms and stairs are wide, gives the travellers a sense of freedom that can not be equaled in many of the older metro stations. I have not met anyone who is not happy with it.

Rotterdam Central Station is the home of the Erasmus line. This is Rotterdam’s oldest subway line, which was opened on February 9, 1968 by Princess Beatrix and her husband Prince Claus. It is also called the North-South line. At the opening in 1968 it was one of the world’s shortest subway lines: only 5.9 kilometers between Rotterdam Centraal and shopping center Zuidplein on the left bank. In 2007 the Erasmus RandstadRail Line service on the route Hofplein – Den Haag Centraal became operational. An extension to Rotterdam Centraal is planned to be operational in 2010.

The total network length of the Rotterdam metro lines (excluding RandstadRail) is 55.3 kilometers, of which 15.3 kilometers run underground and 8.5 kilometers is implemented as light rail. The operation is performed by the RET.

Beatrix opent tentoonstelling Den Haag

RTVWest 16.10.09  DEN HAAG – Koningin Beatrix opent vrijdag in het Gemeentemuseum in Den Haag de tentoonstelling ‘Cézanne – Picasso – Mondriaan, in nieuw perspectief’.

Het Gemeentemuseum maakt gebruik van bruiklenen die komen uit musea in Washington, Parijs en New York. Het is vijftig jaar geleden dat er in ons land een grote tentoonstelling werd gewijd aan Cézanne. Er zijn veertig werken van de Franse kunstenaar te zien, waaronder 25 schilderijen. 

Volgens directeur Benno Tempel wil het Haags Gemeentemuseum met de tentoonstelling duidelijk maken hoe Cézanne van invloed was op het werk van Picasso en Mondriaan.

Cézanne ‘vader van de moderne kunst’

DEN HAAG – In het Gemeentemuseum in Den Haag is vanaf zaterdag de tentoonstelling Cézanne – Picasso – Mondriaan te zien.

Het is voor het eerst sinds 1956 dat in Nederland weer werk te zien is van de beroemde Franse schilder Paul Cézanne (1839-1906), die wordt gezien als de ‘vader van de moderne kunst’. De expositie duurt tot en met 24 januari.

Cézanne, beroemd om onder meer zijn landschappen met de berg Mont Saint-Victoire, had grote invloed op Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) en de Nederlander Piet Mondriaan (1872-1944). Picasso ziet zich als de ‘artistieke erfgenaam’ van Cézanne en noemde hem zijn ‘artistiek vader’, aldus Benno Tempel, sinds januari de nieuwe directeur van het museum.

Tempel plaatst in zijn eerste grote tentoonstelling Cézanne, Picasso en Mondriaan in een nieuw perspectief. De drie schilders hadden volgens Tempel een beslissende invloed op het ontstaan van de moderne kunst. Volgens Tempel is de invloed van Cézanne en het kubisme op Mondriaan altijd onderbelicht gebleven. Op de tentoonstelling is te zien dat Mondriaan in het begin landschappen schilderde en later steeds abstracter ging werken. (ANP)

According to a recent poll held in the Netherlands, sympathy for the royal family is in serious decline. Immediate reason for the waning of warmth for the bluebloods is a questionable building project of luxurious holiday villas undertaken by the prince of Orange in the impoverished state of Mozambique. Another reason for the decline, say the pollsters, is an increasing unease about the family’s financial ethics or, rather, lack thereof. Not only are they in the habit of paying little or no taxes, they annually scoop bucket loads of cash from the treasury.

 Although these matters are indeed worthy of indignation, the real scope of their wealth and power meanwhile remains hidden behind close doors. It is a certain kind of psyop, to ‘expose’ some small misdoing, with the intention of keeping the greater misdoings in the dark. This way, public misgivings can be satisfied while shielding the bluebloods involved from the kind of outrage that would ensue if it would learn of their actual dealings. The public outrage is being concentrated on trifles, instead on, say, the annual chairmanship of the Bilderberg Conferences by members of the Dutch (and Belgian) royal family and their contributions to the New World Order.

Consider the case of the Belgian king Leopold II. In the last days of his reign, he was decried for having his way with a child. Concentrating on this vile crime, made sure that the even greater crime was obscured. Besides ravishing an innocent child for his royal pleasure, this piece of filth acquired the Congo from some fellow fiend, only to enslave the entire indigenous population, subjecting them to mass murder and starvation. In the process he robbed the natural resources of the land. When he was finished with the Congo, Leopold left a pile of dead behind consisting of somewhere between 8 and 30 million people.

Now that the people are criticizing the Dutch royals for their pet projects overseas, it nevertheless presents us with an excellent opportunity to raise some real issues. The real outrage being that the Dutch royal family belongs to a network of distant and not so distant relatives bent on destroying sovereignty worldwide. If their loyalty lies anywhere, it emphatically does not lie with the nation-state they happen to rule at any one time. And it certainly is no coincidence that these lands happened to be economic strongholds of old, opening up all kinds of trading possibilities for them.

The truth that they attempt to carefully keep quiet is that the Dutch royal house, like all others festering over the European continent, stems from inbred alliances forged mainly in medieval Germany. The German house of Nassau was established way back in the dirty depths of the dark ages, later on aligning itself with the house of Orange- a rather obscure princedom in the south of France but with strong German ties. As the website of the Dutch monarchy explains:

“The links between the House of Nassau and the Netherlands date back to 1403 (…)”.

From this alliance sprang the current house of Orange-Nassau. And from its conception the members fanatically married into other existing nobility from the Teutonic hinterland. Consider the Prussian prince Bernhard, founder of the Bilderberg group, who wormed his way into the Dutch royal family before the Second World War, injecting it with even more Prussian blood than it had been before. Also, current queen Beatrix’ late husband, Claus von Amsberg, was of German noble descent.

The same principle applies to the British royal family. The official website of the British monarchy readily admits the name of ‘Windsor’ was an invention out of the First World War to mask the German name of old: Saxe-Coburg-Gotha.

“King George V”, the website proclaims, “replaced the German-sounding title with that of Windsor during the First World War. The name Saxe-Coburg-Gotha survived in other European monarchies (…)”.

The ‘other’ monarchies the text is referring to, consist mainly of German houses. The Belgium monarchy traced its roots back to the very same house of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. Although well documented, the official Belgian website of the royals says nothing of any German ancestry. The lack of information on their website is richly compensated by the  Wikipedia entrance, destroying any questions that might linger on the subject:

“On 4 June (1831), Leopold of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha was designated King of the Belgians by the National Congress (…). To date all (Kings of the Belgians) have belonged to the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.”

History reveals it is mostly by blood that the genealogy of power is secured throughout the ages. And all those unrelated to the head snakes, have been royally approved to do evil in their name. A cast of sociopaths commanding a tribe of psychopaths.

Every single European nation has had its own private family dealing out the cards within her borders, whether it is the Oranges in Holland or the Windsors in England. If nation-states are cobwebs, than the bluebloods are the arachnids pulling all the strings. Teutonic royals overthrow sovereign nations by accumulating economic, political and military power. Always avoiding open confrontations, they seek to subdue nations quietly from within by robbing their natural resources. The double-headed eagle descended upon all lands, it seems, raising up a nationalistic façade to deflect suspicion, but shielding their own dark designs toward the dismembering of all liberty: an extraordinarily old and successful formula which has now been projected to the entire globe.

De Quaadsteniet stormt de ene keer als een olifant door de kast met fijn keramiek (porselein bijvoorbeeld), de andere keer schrijft hij volslagen uit zijn nek, dan weer irriteert hij met zijn column soms lezers.

Of daagt hij ze juist uit, en zo nu en dan houdt hij ze een spiegel voor… Zonder aanziens des persoons! Van gebruikte postzegels tot atoomenergie is zo’n beetje zijn werkterrein, maar in het bijzonder gebeurtenissen die in het dorp plaatsvinden, dingen van alledag, over mensen.

“Het is zéér onstuimig weer in Den Haag”, was het antwoord in mijn gedachten toen ik van de week het liedje op de radio hoorde van Conny Stuart. Voor de lezers die niet weten wie Conny Stuart is of hoe het liedje luidt is Google een uitkomst. Mariëtte Hamer, de fractievoorzitter van de PvdA, hamert de peilingen van Maurice de Hond naar beneden, naar ongekende diepten! Partijleider Bos commandeert dat we nu allemaal aan het werk moeten.

Bas van der Vlies (partijleider van de SGP), de rust zelve, kwam van de week in opstand tegen de verruwing van de taal in de Kamer en de wijze waarop het debat werd gevoerd over de inkomsten van Hare Majesteit. Oranjeverenigingen struikelen over het plan van Prins Willem van Oranje, om in Mozambique een vakantiehuisje neer te zetten, uiteraard voor eigen gebruik. Met andere woorden, het begint te broeien in Den Haag.

Onder Koningin Juliana was het véél rustiger… goed de Lockheed-affaire daargelaten. En die Greet Hofman vergeten we ook maar even voor het gemak. Toen had je nog het defilé op het paleis Soestdijk, dat nu staat te verroesten, en dat werd dan uitgezonden door de NTS, de voorloper van de huidige NOS.

Het defilé werd becommentarieerd door Dick Passchier. De man had een eigen kijk op de kijkers, want zijn commentaar was niet alleen omstandig, maar deed veelal niet eens terzake! Alleen al dáárom was ik blij dat Hare Majesteit Koningin Beatrix voor een andere wijze koos om Koninginnedag te vieren.

Vervelend was dan ook dat Dick Passchier werd ingeruild voor Maartje van Weegen. Van haar heb ik het begrip ‘Chapelle ardente’, die ze zelf talloze keren heeft uitgesproken bij de begrafenisplechtigheden van Zijne Koninklijke Hoogheid Prins Claus, daarbij moet ze gedacht hebben dat zij alleen de betekenis wist van deze twee woorden…

En dit jaar was Koninginnedag bijna een nationale ramp door toedoen van een dwaas!

Onwelvoeglijk was dan ook de discussie over het Koninklijk Huis, dat volgens veel Kamerleden met minder toe zou moeten, daar nu ook het gepeupel voor draconische bezuinigingen staat. Het leek wel een afmijning, een openbare verhuring van het Koningshuis bij afslag bij opbod door eerder ‘mijn’ te roepen dan een andere partij.

Het moet Hare Majesteit dan ook bijzonder hebben getroffen dat de uitkomst van dat debat haar heeft doen laten leren dat het Volk af wil van de bekostiging (lees: het aanwenden van belastinggelden) voor privévluchten met het regeringsvliegtuig.

Nu dit geregeld is, zal Prins Willem van Oranje mogelijkerwijze in Garderen een vakantieoptrekje neerzetten om de reiskosten te drukken.

Ook omdat men niet kan varen voorlopig, daar De Groene Draeck, een draak van een boot, dat nationaal cadeau is gedaan aan Beatrix en Claus, momenteel voor 362.000 euro een onderhoudsbeurt krijgt en op de Marinewerf in Den Helder ligt.
