December is well on it’s way & I am determined to spring my way to the finish line which is my trip to spend Christmas/New Year’s with Tony and his family.

This weekend I have Dream Dinners, ballet, bar, bikram, one birthday party, book club & a date with my dad to the Kings game.  Sunday is my day of rest and I must clean – put away the warm clothes & unpack the winter clothes.

It’s so tempting to talk myself out of eating “wisely” or attaching myself to the couch to catch up with Glee, SYTYCD, Grey’s, my netflix, or my Oprah but like I said, it’s the homerun stretch.  Before I know it I’ll be up in Washington with a mug of hot chocolate keeping warm by the fire with Beau.  *sigh*  3 more weeks

Amsterdam, 3 december 2009 – Voor mensen die nog op zoek zijn naar het juiste cadeau voor de feestdagen, organiseerde de Nederlandse Staatsloterij vandaag een bijzondere actie. Een stoet van 20 bakfietsen overladen met cadeaus trok van het Museumplein door de binnenstad van Amsterdam. Meer dan 400 voorbijgangers werden door Beau van Erven Dorens en Tooske Ragas persoonlijk verrast met een cadeau, waaronder Oudejaarsloten. Want het Oudejaarslot met de kans op de hoofdprijs van €27,5 miljoen belastingvrij is hét ultieme cadeau voor de feestdagen. Beau en Tooske, de presentatoren van het nationale Oud en Nieuw feest op het Museumplein, gaven vandaag met het uitdelen van de cadeaus het officiële startsein voor de Oudejaarstrekking op 31 december 2009.

Een kwart van de Nederlanders heeft nog geen idee wat te kopen
Nederlanders (93%) geven volop cadeaus met de feestdagen, zo blijkt uit een poll gehouden onder ruim 4.000 Staatsloterijspelers. De cadeaus worden voornamelijk gekocht voor familie (75%) en kinderen (68%). Aan de vooravond van Sinterklaas geeft 25% aan nog steeds niet te weten wat ze een ander cadeau moet geven. Op de vraag wat men graag zelf zou willen krijgen met Sinterklaas, heeft men een duidelijke voorkeur. In de schoen ziet men graag het Oudejaarslot (29%) gevolgd door boeken / tijdschriften (22%) of elektronische apparatuur (13%).

JKC not only brings together children, families, schools and communities but also staff!  Kate and Beau have announced their engagement and plan to tie the knot this summer.  We are extremely excited for them and hope they plan to stay at JKC forever and send their future children to our program.  Congratulations!

Things you can learn about me from the above image of my December Workout Calendar.

1.  I am a visual person.  I was anxious on the way to work on this morning and decided I need to write it all out and see/know that everything I need to do this month is feasible.

2.  I don’t (fully) trust technology yet and resort to printing out blank google calendars.

3.  This will make the time fly before I get to see Tony again.

4.  I ensure that I am getting my bang for my buck in fitness memberships.

5.  Pool and Dance both go on a “holiday break” – more time for Bikram/Bar/Cardio.

6.  I decided to continue to do Dream Dinners.  Yummy!  (3 words – Healthy Bread Pudding or should I say less unhealthy…)

7.  I really had issues planning December 19^th.  Between Brazilian Wax, Bar, Spa day.  I think I finally decided Bar, Brazilian Wax, Spa Day all of this happening before noon.  My roommate calls this, “Workout until you die day.”

8.  I have a very long vacation up in Washington with the Beau’s fam up ahead.  Mama Beau is planning fun things for us, including woo-woo stuff!  (holistics)  I will try skiing…again.  My first WHITE CHRISTMAS.  Best part, he is coming back down for the entire week following.

9.  I will be done shopping this weekend.

10.  My handwriting is cursive/print hybrid and yes, I found it necessary to draw a heart every time I scheduled cardio.  I think it reminds me that I have to or my heart will suffer immensely.  (I hate cardio.)

Ik ken niemand die het boek niet heeft gelezen en iedereen zit ook met smacht te wachten op de verfilming.

Voor ons gaat hij morgen in premiere, maar de sterren van Nederland mochten de film

vorige week al aanschouwen. Lovende reacties waren het toen ze er weer uit kwamen. Ik hoop het.

Ik hoop dat de film net zo mooi is als het boek en dat is een hele moeilijke taak, omdat je in boeken

veel meer gevoel kan leggen. Daarom wou ook geen enkele regisseur de taak op zich nemen. Petje af voor Reinout

dat hij het wel durfde, maar dat vind ik geen reden dat hij ook zowat de ster van de film is.

Als een andere regisseur de taak op zich had genomen, een iets minder bekend persoon, dat werd er ook

niet zo heisa over gemaakt. Maar misschien heeft hij wel fantastich werk afgeleverd en hoor je mij naar

de film niet meer klagen. In ieder geval was heel Nederland zowat uitgelopen om de film te komen bekijken!

Anke ne parle jamais.
Dans ce petit village de Moselle, à 100 km de Metz et 80 de Strasbourg, je découvre avec stupéfaction que cette élève « ne comprend pas, parce qu’elle ne parle pas français », au dire des autres élèves, souvent amis et protecteurs. Pas de surprise de la part du chef d’établissement lorsque je vais lui « révéler » l’affaire : voilà deux ans que cette élève allemande est dans l’établissement. On est déjà bien content qu’elle n’arrache plus régulièrement les yeux des autres élèves. Je passe sur un dossier socio-psychologique plus que complexe, l’enfant n’ayant pas eu de père, ou alors plusieurs, selon les dossiers remplis par sa mère.
Les élèves des ZEP urbaines sont nettement plus favorisés que ces enfants perdus dans le rural, là où aucune orientation spécialisée n’est proposée sur place, aucune structure d’accueil adaptée n’existe sans l’arrachement au pays et à la famille, qui n’est pas même proposé, et qui pourrait parfois pourtant être une solution. Anke va à l’école de la République, elle est prise en charge par l’Éducation Nationale, celle dont on défend, sur les pavés des villes, cette égalité, la conformité. Dans cette région à la limite du Bas-Rhin, même le prof de Français lui parle … en allemand. Vivement que l’Europe mette un coup de pied là-dedans…
Anke copie sagement le tableau. Elle montre, lorsque je m’adresse à elle, des mimiques plus qu’expressives de son incompréhension. Elle ne parle jamais. Lorsque les élèves doivent écrire seuls, sans copier, elle est à la torture. Elle me montre avec réticence son cahier, parce qu’elle a honte de son écriture grossière. Ses compagnons font mine de ne rien voir, pour ne pas la blesser. Des heures, des jours dans cet inconfort terrible. Sa vie semble loin de tout sens.
Chaque semaine, deux fois, Anke vient me voir entre midi et deux heures, afin que je tente de lui donner le goût du français, maladroitement : un scandale, ce à quoi je m’essaye sans aucune formation – mais comment rester sans rien faire ? Sa voix d’abord, si faible qu’elle en est inaudible, que j’aide à s’affirmer. Je ne lui parle qu’en français. Elle balbutie, de sa voix frêle, une histoire de mouton mal dessiné, en plein désert du Sahara. Une patiente aventure a commencé.

Printemps. Anke vient plus rarement lire et écouter Le Petit Prince, cette histoire d’apprivoisement, et pour cause : elle est en stage. Cette jeune fille gauche et masculine soigne et vend des fleurs, et elle s’y plaît merveilleusement. Les fleurs lui transmettent leur couleur, leur gaîté. Elle commence à soigner elle-même son image, à cultiver, légère comme un pétale, sa fragile apparence.

Les élèves de la 4e AS, cette dans laquelle elle se trouve vont bientôt revenir de stage. Afin de les mettre en valeur et de les réintégrer à l’école, que ces presque exclus entrevoient avec réticence ; afin de faire travailler la prestation orale à ces adolescents qui frôlent déjà le monde du travail, les entretiens d’embauche, le contact professionnel, les explications avec collègues et patrons, je leur propose de raconter ce qu’ils ont vécu lors de leur stage.

Anke revient donc, deux fois par semaine, mais cette fois, le renard et les roses sont passés à la trappe : nous préparons activement son intervention. Aberrant ? nous verrons bien. Pour l’instant, elle m’a sollicité pour l’aider à remplir cette grille de thèmes à évoquer que je leur ai proposée. Elle écrit lentement, elle fait le point… et puis un jour, nous nous mettons à répéter.
L’unique moyen de faire est un échange : je pose les questions, elle répond. Nous nous mettons alors à répéter, répéter, toujours les mêmes répliques. Je lui apprends à bouger son corps gauche et emprunté tout en parlant, à écrire au tableau certains mots importants. Des dizaines et des dizaines de fois, nous rejouons ces quelques minutes. Le jour-même, je sens que sa tension monte. Nous répétons inlassablement, tant qu’elle le veut. Et elle le veut, grave et intensément joyeuse.
L’heure arrive. Elle entre, et me dit très vite, très bas : « je le fais pas » avant d’aller s’asseoir.

D’autres élèves interviennent. Ce devrait être son tour. J’explique à la classe, dans laquelle elle ne dit jamais mot ; je dis combien elle a travaillé, et je commence à exposer par le menu le contenu de son intervention… Je m’adresse doucement à elle, pour quêter une confirmation.

Alors un silence, réticent, et puis, Anke parle.

Elle parle, très bas, et ses réponses à mes questions sont un peu mécaniques, cent fois répétées. Elle répond, dans le rythme, à chaque question, les mots qu’elle a mis au point, dans cette langue que paraît-il elle ne connaît pas. Et alors elle se lève, geste cent fois répété, et elle va écrire le mot important au tableau. Elle parle, par petites bribes de réponses, de son travail parmi les fleurs, dans un silence total qui laisse toute la place à sa voix incertaine. Ses yeux sont rivés aux miens, et je lutte à toute force, me retenir pour les conserver secs, confiants, car mon émotion me fait défaillir et que ma défaillance provoquera la sienne. Tout se passe, tout passe dans le lien tangible entre nos deux regards.

Un silence. Clapotements, les élèves, puis applaudissements à tout rompre. Ils diront ensuite à quel point ils sont médusés : « Mais elle comprend ! elle parle le Français ! »

Je ne reverrai pas souvent Anke aux cheveux très noirs, qui peut-être soigne encore ses fleurs.

Cette aventure ne se limite pas à une émotion, qui se transmit à tous les élèves tant elle fut grande : Anke a sans aucun doute appris, un tout petit peu, à parler, elle a appris qu’elle n’était pas incompréhensible, qu’elle avait des choses à raconter, des choses intéressantes pour les autres, qui ont, surmontant leur effarement, posé ensuite quelques questions. Elle a appris à nous tous ce qu’est l’autre, celle qui ne parle pas, celle qui parle une autre langue, celle qui ne dit jamais rien.

Elle m’a appris à moi, elle m’a appris magistralement, que toute la volonté d’apprentissage passe par la Relation ; que l’attention est fondamentale, même lorsque la technique ne suit pas : je n’ai aucune formation en Français Langues Etrangères, mais je sens bien qu’en l’absence d’autre chose, le temps accordé est important ; le seul lien qui la tenait était notre échange, notre regard, lors de son intervention. Elle m’a appris à me positionner, attention retenue, distance maintenue : le prof, c’est celui qui passe, et qui va s’effacer. Le prof, c’est celui qui t’apprend comment faire sans lui.
Elle m’a appris, ce que j’ai retrouvé plus tard bien des fois, que l’élève le plus rétif a des trésors cachés ; que ce sont ces moments-là qui vous donnent du carburant pour des années de galère pédagogique et humaine aussi. Que l’enseignement passe par un concept vieux comme le monde des hommes, le don. Elle m’a appris, enfin, ce que nous avions ânonné à longueur de semaines : « c’est le temps que tu as pris pour ta rose qui fait ta rose si importante », importante pour toi, importante pour elle-même.

Il y aura eu les soins attentifs des enseignants durant deux ans, en français ou en allemand, qu’importe après tout, qui ont lentement apprivoisé sa violence ; la gentillesse profonde de ses amis et compagnons, qui l’ont accueillie tout en respectant ses silences ; le suivi délicat et sérieux d’une Assistance sociale pendant plusieurs années ; et puis il y a eu les fleurs, lors d’un printemps soudain écloses.

Voilà, pour Anke.

Kind of a lot of topics to fit in what’s supposed to be a  short-ish post.  I’ll do what I can!

• So during my lunch break on Saturday (bar method & ballet from 730am-noon) I decided it was a good time to catch up on Grey’s Anatomy.  I started balling.  Then somehow I thought watching Lisa Nieme (Patrick Swayze’s wife) on Oprah was a good idea.  *shiver*  I should probably stop typing about how moved I was because I’ll probably just cry all over again.  I just love their relationship – filled with love, passion, loyalty, and adventure.  After balling my eyes out for 2 hours I headed to Bikram which was 90 minutes of hard core sweating.  I was extremely tired after further removing my body of its water supply.
• Sunday morning I woke up in pretty  bad condition.  My stomach burned from the margaritas I had from the night prior and my roommate was in the bathroom.  So I decided to puke in a shopping bag in my closet (low point).  Afterwards, I realized my back stung.  I ran to the mirror to check it out only to find marks that looked like bug bites and lashings.  Pretty much the rest of the morning I spent stressed out and realizing that there was no one in close range that I would I would want to ask for help/support from.  This was a really sad thing to realize.  So I stayed on the phone with Tony and sent pictures to my mom.  Drove myself to urgent care and found out I had the very common, yet mysterious Pityriasis rosea. Swell. I had soup, DVR and sleep the rest of the nigh and skipped out on my morning workout.  Needless to say, this has contained more than ½ of the rash.  Thanks, Body, for the big fat hint to slow myself down once in a while.
• So as you can imagine I was an emo wreck laying in fetal position feeling awful.  Big things were surfacing, bigger than the pityriasis rosea – I admitted very matter of factly that despite how grateful I am for everything I have going for me, my life feels like a “rehearsal” right now.  It doesn’t feel like it will truly start until I have my co-pilot in the same zip code under the same roof as me.  I was scared to admit this because, I’m a “strong, successful, independent female” that doesn’t need a “man” to make me happy.  That’s the thing though – it’s not about being lonely or wanting just anyone.  Anyways, Tony, was able to reach through to me via phone and reminded me of how quickly 2011 will come and that there are things that this time apart will allow us to do in preparation.  He’s right – he’s right and I just have to keep focused.  I guess what scares me is that if anything were to ever happen (knock on wood) my biggest regret would be to not have bit the bullet and just moved out to Virginia to be with him.  But more than likely nothing “bad” will happen & 2011 will come as quickly as 2010 has and our adventure will be able to commence.  I just need to focus, like he said, which I think I do well for the most part – I just had a weak moment, ya know?
• During this “rehearsal” time preparing for the “real thing” I will be working not only on my physical wellness but also paying off all debt and SAVING.  I also want to open the door to different career adventures – yes, I’m moonlighting!  I am looking into teaching ballet classes.  Yes, I’m finally putting that minor into use.  This might sound pretty insane – but I envision a life working different part time jobs.  I think it just suits my personality to do more than just one thing.  That is the way I’ve always been.  Oh and I mean like 2-3 concrete jobs not like answering phones, babysitting and/or pretending like my yelp reviews is a career or something.  Anyways, I figured any dance teaching job on my resume could open doors to potential jobs in the future after my white knight saves me from the suburbs.
