I’m elated to know that I have an awesome support system. These people are there for me when I need them. I don’t ask for much but when I do need that extra push, I have an open book of advice to sneak into.

By the way if you are into a really good read, pick up

“Things I Learned While Walking” by Daunte Henderson

at

www.mynameisdaunte.com .

===========================================================================================

Sometimes we have to free our minds in order for the rest to follow. I’m not trying to sound cheesy, but let’s be honest.

At times we can fall off the bandwagon, which makes it hard to get back on. Honestly, this is okay to experience. Being knocked down every once and again can make for greater motivation and a chance to figure out a new strategy about how you are to reach the next step. This will prepare for future incidences where you may have to hurdle your way over other obstacles in front of you. The more you have to avoid, the stronger your thinking will abstain you from failure. Stop taking every road block as a “sign” from somewhere else that it’s not supposed to happen to you at this time and moment. Yes, timing is everything, but when the time comes to prove that we can do the job, so many excuses made to keep from challenging ourselves.

Looking at your goals and uncovering your deepest wants is an awesome way to free up buried intuition.

Often is the case, we are quick to throw away our dreams if pursuit of something greater that isn’t even a good fit for the kind of person you are or what you want due to what other people are saying about your endeavors. Here is the answer to all of your worries, “To become a better you, you have to stop listening to the wrong voices” (Joel Osteen, Facebook). Stop allowing everyone into your thoughts. Stop telling everyone what you plan to do next. Become a force to partition the negative from the positive. Your plans are not for everyone to know about. Free your mind from the destruction and failure of someone else’s opinion.

Secretly, we all want to hear potential negative points from those closest to us.

Why wouldn’t we? We allow those dear to our hearts decide what our next move is. There is no one that will be able to make that one major decision better than yourself. It’s too easy to give of yourself and your potential through telling the world what is eating at you. Let it go and encourage yourself to worry about greater tasks needing your attention. Learning to deal with our weakness is the only way to better our situations.

Stop telling your business to everyone, even your best friends.

===========================================================================================

ASK YOURSELF THIS:

1. How many clouded thoughts are running throughout your head now as you read this?

2. Now count, how many negative thoughts have you provided yourself before giving anything a try?

===========================================================================================

There is always a tendency to give up on something worth pushing for but because as a people we always think worse than what the situation really is, there will always be a negative outcome.

Life is so much more than what we have in our possession now and if you can’t see that then something is truly wrong on your end. Live you life every which way and understand that a free mind is a free person on their grind. You can not tell me there won’t difficulties that may come along your way, but something is always going to come into play to obstruct you from your goals.

It’s amazing to know that your hard work isn’t going unnoticed.

One of my New Years Resolutions was to read twelve books. As of 3/15/2011 (today), I’m already

One of my New Years Resolutions was to read twelve books. As of 3/15/2011 (today), I’m already on my 22nd book. Yeah… looks like I can cross that off my list.

The thing is, when I started setting the goal of reading twelve books, I actually thought it would be a huge goal for me, since I’ve never read more than four or five books a year before.

How did I do it (by the way… these weren’t dinky picture books, either)?

(1) I actually had motivation to read, which I put in a previous post. It might not have been logical, but it worked for me (and by the way… the “logic” I used was based on a chapter in Dale Carnegie‘s book, “How To Win Friends and Influence People“, which was one of the books I’ve read).

(2) Instead of looking at it as twelve books, I focused on one book at a time. I wouldn’t read the second book until I finished the first book.

(3) I spent at least two to ten hours (yes… you read that right… ten hours) a day at Starbucks (which is where I am now) or another coffee shop, or the library reading (the home is too distracting). Note: even though I took a speed reading course back in high school, I’ve forgotten alot of the techniques and there are times it would take me about seven minutes to finish a page. A fast reader I am not. In the beginning, I would get up at around 5:30am to get to Starbucks (the only place that’s open at that time) to start reading (though I don’t really do that anymore).

Here’s the thing, though: alot of these books I actually had time to go over again. Being that these are self-help and goal-setting books, I try to not so much read them as to try to study and learn from them. As such, I do take notes, too.

So, in case you’re curious (and in a way, to brag ), here are some of the books I’ve read:

(Side note: Another book that should be counted as two books. Very difficult to read. Makes reading “7 Habits” look like reading “Dick and Jane”).

(21) Goal!: Your 30 Day Game Plan For Business and Career Success.

Even Joel Osteen’s book, “Become A Better You: 7 Keys To Improving Your Life” mentions it.

As a matter of fact, most self-help books mention this. It’s the concept of “luck”. Basically, it’s some mystical, unseen force in the Universe (or God, if go with Joel Osteen) that propels you towards achieving your goals. When I first encountered this, I was like, “this is all just another name for coincidence.”. Maybe it is, maybe it isn’t.

Since so many personal development experts and self-help gurus talk about this, I figured I don’t want to be left out in the cold (especially after shoveling all the snow yesterday… and today), so here’s my take on it.

Ahem… so, does luck or “mystical universal force” or whatever it is exist and what role does it play in the goal setting process? Without being an “expert” in the mystical (hey… this blog is called “Practical Goal Achieving”, is it not?), I will have to say in my unqualified opinion that I wouldn’t be surprised if it does exist. OK, fine… it probably does… maybe.

However, going back to the old adage: “Luck is when opportunity meets preparation“, you still need to do the actions on your end. You still need to plan accordingly and act on the plan. If you do nothing, even if “luck” does come, you will be unprepared to do anything. If you do your part, then God will do his, but you have to do your part. Luck just helps you get there faster.
