There is nothing sexier than a Beer Belly. Seriously Nothing.

I try to talk the Mr. out of his sit-ups every morning…

riiiiight. but you can buy this hat if you secretly do want to encourage the BB.

When I found out we had a date in Korea Town last Friday night with one of our favorite couples I was really excited to try out a part of town I’ve spent very little - if any time in over the 22+ years I’ve lived in Los Angeles. In truth, I think my only experience in Korea Town was at the Korean Spa which is another story for another day. {I’ve got a repeat date on that one coming up soon}.

aaaanyway I was pretty excited, figuring we’d be in for a night of Korean BBQ and Karaoke. I do a mean Betty Davis Eyes on the karaoke machine, and by mean I’m implying that it is downright traumatic to your ears.

record scratch on the karaoke…we went to Korea Town and didn’t do anything remotely local…instead we went to Beer Belly recently voted one of LA’s essential craft beer bars. Set back from the streets in the back of a parking lot, this intimate, hipster joint opened about a year ago and has quickly become a neighborhood staple.

Known most specifically for their famous Craft Beer selections, we started with a beer tasting staged light to heavy consisting of Citra Pale Ale – a light slightly hoppy beer with a citra {think grapefruit/orange/lemon} overlay, Melrose IPA - a traditional IPA with notes of honey and citrus, Craftsman Triple White Sage - Medium Bodied with heavy herbal and sage aromas {and taste} and the Smog City Groundwork Coffee Porter which tasted like COFFEE with a hint of beer.

My favorite was definitely the Melrose IPA, though I kind of wished the Triple White Sage tasted as good as it smelled. Unfortunately not close. I should have known better…it sort of had that strong and probably too strong scent like wheatgrass does…and we all know how that tastes going down.

We also ordered some snacks all of which were Beer Belly worthy – save one semi-healthy option if you forego the triple white sage cheese whiz, which in this case tasted nothing like the beer.

GRILLED BROCCOLI

Triple White Sage Cheese Whiz

PORK BELLY CHIPS

Pork Belly, Sweet Onion Sugar, Tabasco Aioli

{Source}

JIDORI HOT WINGS

Buffalo Blue, BBQ Volcano Chipotle

And there might have been some CRAZY DELICIOUS MAC AND CHEESE in there too.

It was all ridiculously good. even the broccoli.

I can’t say that the beer didn’t have something to do with it….maybe a little…especially after we read this sign

but when the four of us get together it is by far the funnest – yes, I know it’s poor English but most fun doesn’t seem to communicate the fun well enough – night ever, every single time. Literally we laughed our bellies off with abs burning, cheeks pulled, face sore kind of laughter.

Beer Belly, you’re growing on me. Next time, my <del>eyes</del> stomach is all about your Brunch.. Snickers Pancakes and Sausage McBelly holy BB. Maybe we should wait until after the wedding…and the honeymoon.

{MF DRE}

PS – speaking of new restaurants, we’re headed to Stella Rossa this week to meet with our wedding DJ! – anyone been? any musts? any do not play songs we should remember?

I know I keep bringing this up. I’m sorry. It just seems people keep coming up with healthy reasons for drinking beer. I don’t particularly think you need healthy reasons to drink beer. It is delicious, and compliments a variety of foods. The health benefits just give me a greater pieces of mind, especially since the rest of my eating is pretty healthy.

I actually found an entire website about Beer and Health. It looks like an actual symposium about the health attributes of beer. Some of the things they talk about are pretty basic, such as how alcohol helps the cardiovascular system, delays the onset of dementia, and the beer belly probably has a lot more to do with the things you eat along with the beer than the drinking of the beer itself. One interesting thing they brought up is that beer contains high levels of well absorbed silicone which helps bone health.

One real surprise that I found very interesting is their research of beer and exercise. I have heard many times (sometimes just joking) that beer is good for exercise recovery. Meaning, eating and drinking something within about half an hour of exercise when your body is most receptive to refilling glycogen levels. I have also heard that alcohol dehydrates you, and therefore wouldn’t be a particularly good form of hydration. This site claims “Research into whether alcohol content prevented adequate recovery and/or rehydration found that neither a specific nor a negative effect could be attributed to the intake of beer compared to the intake of just water. In conclusion, at least in healthy, young adults, beer in moderate amounts is as effective as water for rehydration and recovery after exercise.” That is very exciting to me.

There’s nothing better than going out for a couple of libations on a Friday night knowing that regardless of how much ethanol ends up in your blood stream (or who you go home with), you won’t have to wake to the blaring cacophony of your week day alarm. Who you wake up next to on the other hand, well, that’s a whole other problem. Introducing, “Let’s Get Sauced,” highlighting our favorite cocktail, brewski, or bar of the moment. We know what we’ll be drinking this weekend. Do you?

K-Town has always been associated with 8-course BBQ and 2 am karaoke. But now that gastropub Beer Belly has settled in, there are at least a dozen more reasons to frequent the neighborhood. It starts with twelve rotating American craft beers on tap, ranging from brown ales to douple IPAS. Feeling indecisive? Opt for the beer flight and choose your own adventure with any four of the tapped brews. There’s also an impressive bottle list on hand offering everything from Maui lagers to aged cherry sours to saisons brewed with organic plums. As if that weren’t enough, the ever-evolving menu includes a decadent bacon maple grilled cheese and a bucket of duck fat fries topped with duck skin cracklins. Just when you thought this place couldn’t get any better, you bite into a deep fried oreo and discover that you can WiFi your way into Beer Belly’s playlist to vote on what tune will play next. Thank goodness for the free parking lot – you’re going to want to stay a while.

If there is one thing I find more unattractive than dirty finger nails, body odor, excessive amounts

If there is one thing I find more unattractive than dirty finger nails, body odor, excessive amounts of hair where a human being should not have hair, uni-brows, moles, saggy boobs, camel toes, ass hair and bad breathe is….PREGNANCY.

It’s horrible. Ladies, stop doing this to yourself. Please. It’s gross and you’ll get stretch marks. Personally, I don’t want anything that will not go away: herpes, aids, syphilis, children, etc.

I understand that my loathing of pregnant women won’t make females stop having babies but it would be great if girls would stop taking maternity pictures in lingerie then posting it on their preferred social networking site for the entire free world to see. You don’t look cute, you look like you have a beer belly.

Besides if you are wearing lingerie in your maternity pictures that means I can see your nasty, fucked up looking belly button thing. Gross. Cover that shit up, please.

I am not trying to offend anyone that is pregnant or has been pregnant…or even worse, will be pregnant. I just want you to know that not everyone finds that sort of thing cute or wonderful…so stop showing us maternity pictures and everything else that goes along with that.

Also, people like to say to me “What if you decide you want children one day?” and/or “Why don’t you want children?” My response is always the same:

1. Babies are expensive.

2. I don’t want anything coming out of my vagina.

3. I don’t want to be pregnant, ever.

4. Babies cry.

5. Babies puke.

6. Babies shit.

7. Babies can’t effectively communicate with big people.

8. Babies require attention.

9. Babies smell funny.

10. Baby formula smells weird and grosses me out

11. I don’t want to be responsible for another person.

12. You have to feed, water and clothe them. The only person I want to cook and buy clothes for is myself.

13. I don’t do minivans.

14. I don’t want them bringing their friends in or near my house.

15. Kids are dirty.

16. They make noise.

and finally,

The best reason of all is:

20. I just don’t fucking want any kids so stop fucking telling I do and/or I’ll change my mind.

Sincerely,
I want to have a life

While preparing for a midwife-assisted birth, Michelle and I went through a centering class at Metho

While preparing for a midwife-assisted birth, Michelle and I went through a centering class at Methodist Hospital with roughly 10 other couple who were using a midwife and due this past spring as well. The group met Saturdays with increasing frequency from September-February so we got to know one another reasonably well. One couple hosted a luncheon this past weekend so we could get all the babies together for the first time and watch them discuss the global impact of impending U.N. sanctions on Syria, the symmetric disproportionality of Scott Walker’s face and whether the right or left boob holds greater lactose volume (the babies eventually agreed to disagree).

As Michelle and I drove to the party, we wondered aloud if Cecilia would be the most… “advanced” of the baby brood. Indeed she was. Are we not supposed to be cutting her milk with liquified butter? Our bad. She definitely looks like her dad as a baby. Large and in charge.

Can’t really see much of me as a baby here, but this is all I’ve got in digital format at hand:

Cecilia, if you happen to read this someday, please don’t fret. If your body mass index is destined to be similar to mine, you’ll slim out by 8th grade… just in time to become interested in boys and give your dad hell.

And really, you might want to re-think the last part. Most boys just turn into a less-successful version of the ever asymmetrical Scott Walker:

Millions of people in the world are faced with the dilemma of eliminating their pot bellies. A pot b

Millions of people in the world are faced with the dilemma of eliminating their pot bellies. A pot belly or beer belly as some people would like to call it, is the fat that surrounds the abdomen. Pot bellies are not limited to the obese/elderly alone. When you carefully examine around you will find that even slender people are faced with this dilemma! There are a variety of factors that contribute to the development of pot bellies: high fat diets, lack of physical exercise, high consumption of alcohol and obesity amongst other factors.

Disturbing news from USA, where a study published in the journal of American college of Cardiology shows that carrying a pot belly results in a much higher risk of heart diseases despite the fact that your body weight could still be within the normal range. Additionally, pot bellies expose one at a risk of developing other health conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes and certain cancers. I’m sure many of us are surprised to find that we fit in this category. The good news is that a SLIMMING BELT is a magnificent way that could help you eliminate that protruding belly.

Whatever the age we are, we all want to remain healthy and fit. A flat tummy and health go hand in hand. Exercise is very important to keep you in shape however if you can’t get to exercise everyday the SLIMMING BELT is a great option for you. A SLIMMING BELT can be described as a mechanical device which vibrates and can be placed around the waist to aid in burning fats. SLIMMING BELTS work by changing the appearance of your abdominal muscles. The vibration causes muscles to tighten and loosen. This is actually like continuous sit-ups/flexing. Thanks to the technology. In a span of time your muscles become toned and the shape of your abdomen thinner.

SLIMMING BELTS come in different varieties. When investing in one, you need to consider its model and features. This is very important because it reflects what results you reap from the device. Types of slimming belts include:

Slimming belts designed for active wear. They are worn when exercising and are designed to enable you get more out of your work outs.

Slimming belts for non-active wear -These types of belts do not need extra physical activity. Such belts do not consider exercise as a prerequisite.

The pros of using Slimming belts:

Helps in reducing protruding bellies hence shaping your waist

If you choose the type that doesn’t require exercise as a prerequisite, you can use it at your convenience like for example cooking, knitting, watching, television, sitting in the office etc.

Most belts are designed to be used on thighs, arms and legs as well

Most belts work as great massagers and could relive you off fatigue after a long hard working day

Restoring flexibility of muscles especially after delivery (normal child birth)

Aiding in blood circulation

Toning up tired muscles

The cons of slimming belts:

Slimming belts can feel abit bulkier the first days of using it before one gets used to them

Initial days can feel itchy on the site where the belt is being used which is a simple reaction to vibration but disappears immediately vibration stops

Using slimming belts requires consistency and a little patience coupled with a healthy lifestyle

Day 2 of the quest.

So far so good! I woke up early today hoping to go for a 20K bike ride, which I usually do on a Saturday morning. But the skies looked like it was about to release a heavy downpour so I settled for a 3K walk/jog around the park and stretching exercises after.

I had to cut the calisthenics part short because I was already starving and literally out of energy. I guess it was my system’s way of telling me that it misses the RICE!

I guess I really have to build up my willpower to this. Last night after work, my friend, M, and I went to this Chinese Chain called – North Park. We go here at least once a week to avoid the rush hour traffic. Let me tell you, I could felt my heart breaking when I ordered noodles and brocolli in oyster sauce instead of my usual yang chow fried rice, lechon macau and salted garlic squid. And ordering wasn’t the end of the ordeal. I had to eat and “look” like I actually liked what I ordered!

But guess what? I made it! Except for a handful of peanuts before I slept, that’s all I had last night.

Today and tomorrow will be another challenge. It’s the weekend and I get to see my family who are all heavy weight food lovers too. Plus I have to go to a birthday celebration with them too! Let me see if I can surprise myself and stick to the plan.

Wish me luck!

One of the things my surgeon, as well as my pain management doctor have discussed with me is the mat

One of the things my surgeon, as well as my pain management doctor have discussed with me is the matter of losing weight to benefit my spine health. Having a proper weight for my frame is critical for the relief, growth and healing of my spine and other skeletal joints. I need to lose about 30-35 pounds to be at a “good weight” for me. This will ease the stress on my back as well as help my hips and knees tremendously. Of course, losing weight isn’t the only necessity – I need to increase incrementally my physical activity.

As I have evaluated my thinking, it comes down to a wrong way of thinking of bodily care.

I don’t want to exercise because it generates pain and the catch22 is that if I don’t exercise it causes weakness and eventual pain. But exercise, and the discussion of it, is really another blog post sometime in the future.

I don’t think rightly concerning my eating habits.

Just yesterday I was working on some Ephesisans 4 material, specifically verses 22-24 which deal with the “Put-off / Put-on” principle. Someone wrote this question and it struck me square in my heart:

How often do you think of things in your life that need to be “put off”?

Immediately I wanted to say that I knew the overall spiritual temperature of my walk with Christ was good and healthy…but the question wouldn’t go away. The sinful choices of my eating habits seemed to be in the forefront of my mind. So I decided to do something about it. The principles laid out in Ephesians 4 are these:

Put off the sinful behavior, thinking and speech

Renew your mind – regulate the input

Put on the righteous behavior, thinking and speech.

How do these principles look like right now in my desire to change my eating habits?

Put off: My sinful eating habits focused on pleasing me – finding satisfaction in food

Renew: My thinking needs to be finding my satisfaction in pleasing God and in Christ alone

Put on: My righteous eating habits will be focused on providing proper nutrition to the body that God has given me and a resistance to the impulsive eating habits. It will be a focus on teaching my body what hunger truly is and how I rightly can manage hunger. When the desire to satisfy self or splurge on self comes, I will need to immediately focus on Christ and His sufficiency in some way.

How am I going to accomplish all this?

I decided to use a resource I have recommended to several people: Setting Captives Free. While I used part of this ministry to help me become free from the enslavement of pornography several years ago, I will now enroll in their “Lord’s Table” 60 day program. In fact I am on Day #2 currently.

This is the eating plan that I will follow for the next 60 days: Eating Plan #1

While I am somewhat focused on losing weight and eating proper nutritional foods, my main focus will be to find my satisfaction in Christ and through that change the sinful eating habits I have developed.

I encourage you to check out their website and then periodically ask me how I’m doing. I want to be as open as possible, and I’m sure I’ll need the encouragement as I progress. My body is already taking notice and I think that is a good thing.

I DO! Just kidding, but I used to. I actually have come to enjoy not drinking, although I do occass

I DO! Just kidding, but I used to. I actually have come to enjoy not drinking, although I do occassionally enjoy a nice glass of tequila or champagne. Truth of the matter is that for nearly a decade drinking was a major part of my “persona.” I grew up in New York City, I went to an Upper East Side private school, and then a notorious party college…this amounted to “the girl is an instant party and can drink you and your frat brothers under the table.”

I really have matured and outgrown that aspect of mt personality. I no longer desire to party that hard and trust me – it is to many people’s dismay – but for the greater good. At first, I was somewhat insecure about it – but I am self-confident enough (and naturally CRAZY enough) to know that I do not need to drink to be be the life of the party…although admittedly the likelihood of getting me to dance is beyond slim to none.

At 29, I can finally acknowledge that there is a difference in drinking for fun/socializing and drinking just to amuse others or to assuage an awkward situation. I know that amusing others does not benefit my spiritual growth OR my fitness efforts OR my general happiness.

This past weekend was pretty amazing – I hung out with many of my close friends (the pregnant, stuck at work, and busy with finals – being excluded). I continued my “fitness rampage” and between Friday and Sunday got in a solid three workouts totaling a little over six hours. I found time to work on and adhere to my new financial planning strategy. I ate clean, celebrated a friend’s birthday, attend an awesome summer kick-off rooftop party at a friend’s apartment (with a fire dancer see clip below), ride another friend’s new motorcycle, have date night, and prepare myself for this upcoming week…it was an all around amazing weekend and did not require drinking away my hard work.

And although I will be the first to admit that I look great with a cocktail in my hand – I felt better without one when I was able to wake up and be productive the following morning.

Here are some weekend photos and video…

………

……………………

There is so so much that we just know for certain is true that just ain’t so. There is so much “settled science” when there can be no such thing. We can prove beyond reasonable doubt that something isn’t false or wrong, but cannot prove beyond doubt that something is true or right. What is intuitive may be obvious, but that doesn’t make it right or so.

……………………………………………………..

I am not a nutritionist, not a medical doctor, not a pharmacist, and haven’t played any of them on tv. Further, I did not stay last night in a Holiday Inn Express. I have before here at thedrpete opined on the subject of nutrition. It was last December at http://thedrpete.wordpress.com/2011/12/28/from-whence-and-from-whom/.

Nonetheless, if you listen to or read the prescriptions of doctors, of nutritionists, of personal trainers, of “wellness” experts — almost sans exception — I believe that they will lead you to weight gain, obesity, at least pre-diabeties, food addictions, poor sleep, either depression or manic-depressive behavior, and dulled thinking. If you’re a man, they’ll also assure that you develop a “beer belly” and “man-boobs”. If a woman, they’ll also assure that you develop a “michelin middle” or fat butt or thunder thighs or all of the above, that along with increasing your risk of breast cancer. Regardless of your sex — and apropos mentioning here, given announcement just last week of a major initiative from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) — these health and wellness professionals will exascerbate your likelihood of sometime suffering dementia and alzheimer’s.

Having previously here at thedrpete already opined regularly and intensely against what President of the United States Barack Hussein Obama is, values, wants, and does — and, thus, self-reported myself to “the authorities” — I herein also caution against either any of you or your children following any dietary or “wellness” prescription from First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama. And, I opine, do not subject your children to what their schools do because of either intimidation or ignorance as result of White House East Wing directives.

Please take a little quiz for me. Which from the below pairs is worse vis-a-vis your health?

(a) a Wheat Thin cracker or (b) the cheddar cheese atop it?

(a) a ribeye steak or (b) the pasta accompanying it?

(a) a bowl of Wheaties or (b) the generous pour of whole milk over it?

(a) a cup of granulated sugar or (b) a bowl of Post Shredded Wheat (100% natural whole-grain)

(a) a bagel or (b) the cream cheese covering it?

(a) a three-egg cheese omelet or (b) a slice of dry whole-wheat toast?

Please then comment, starting with just a string of letters like in a word made of a’s and b’s.

If you were to end up in the hospital, diagnosed with, say, type-2 diabetes, I predict you’d be prescribed medications by your physician, then counseled by a nurse on a diet regimen, that consistent with guidelines from the ADA (American Dietetic Association), the AHA (American Heart Association), the USDA (U.S. Department of Agriculture), and the other ADA (American Diabetes Association). Following that regimen, I predict, will lead to more doctor visits, leading to more medication, including finally daily injections. Doing strictly the absolute 100% opposite of said regimen will likely lead to weight loss, obliteration of your “beer belly” or “michelin middle”, a reduction in daily caloric intake, the ability to wean yourself from the injections, and then the medications altogether, and a “cure” from the diabetes.

…………………………………………..

Progressives are permanently installed and ensconced within the administrative bureaucracy of our U.S. Government. They write the rules and regulations, the policies and publicity, and fund research . . . which fits their template. Progressives populate the professorships at America’s colleges and universities, the ones that profess what fits their template. It is they who graduate the indoctrinated k-12 teachers and journalists and nutritionists and dieticians and nurses and doctors and lawyers and government bureaucrats.

Progressives never ever waste a crisis, a crisis created by them so as to not waste it. It is there that my premise and predicate for skepticism reside. The oceans will rise and flood us. The oceans will all die from pollution. A “population bomb” will cause mass starvation worldwide. We’re entering another “ice age” and its too late to reverse it and save the planet. Oops, now it’s “global warming” caused by human activity and disregard. Just last week “scientists” warned that by 2030 humanity will require three earths just to sustain human life as we know it.

Some of this garbage that’s passed off as thought — say, the imminent starvation catastrophe — results in demand that food scientists do whatever is necessary to increase crop yields. Bioengineering and hybridization, etc., follow such that barley is no longer barley, corn is no longer corn, rye is no longer rye, wheat is no longer wheat, etc. The names haven’t changed, but the grain sure has.

Remember “amber waves of grain”? Well, what used to be four-foot wheat stalks that waved in the wind are now 12-18-inch hybrid->hybrid->hybrids yielding higher grain per acre and double the crops per year. And with a much-altered molecular and chemical structure.

Progressives are the masters at producing unintended consequences. Think of Medicare and Medicaid, of Social Security, and welfare. What those progressives have here produced and championed is, I think, not absence of starvation, but obesity and diabetes and heart disease and osteoporosis and increased cancers and ADHD and increased dementia alzheimer’s and mental disorders and more. Unintended consequences.

This is not what I know. It is what I think. I’m currently doing research and study on a population of one, yours truly.

It’s truly an unfavorable indication when somebody puts on a beachwear and you can’t ded

It’s truly an unfavorable indication when somebody puts on a beachwear and you can’t deduce if they’re carrying a child or if they are nothing but carrying a lot of belly fat on them. You’ll also see plenty of men gradually put on the dreaded beer belly as they become older and women have discussed how it is one of the most horrid traits on the manly body.

So to avert all the pregnancy and beer belly comments fromarising I’m going to teach you how to lose belly fat in as little time as possible and keep it off forever.

There are way too many people out there who are erroneously carrying out hundreds of situps inattempts to lose belly fat as soon as possible. The fact is that you can’t completely spot reduce fat on your body. The authentic truth is going to to in entirety dispose of all garbage foods from your snack. This is going to include white carbohydrates lilke bread and rice as they’ll cause inflammation in your body.

Concentrate on getting the best part of your food intake from good sources such as lean proteins, green vegetables, nuts, legumes and by downing lots of water so you can lose belly fat fast.

By only carrying out the above step you’ll lose a lot more belly fat then you think but for most people getting their diet right is going to be the most trying part of the belly fat burning process.

One more great tip off to lose belly fat as soon as possible is going to be to engage in a sequence of running in addition to the healthy dieting. Metabolic resistance training is primarily a course of training that combines total body strength training on top of high intensity interval training. This primarily means you’re carrying additional weights in exercises that require many muscle groups and joints. The interval training part fundamentally means you must train at a much higher might than what you ordinarily engage in, but the awesome part is that you don’t have to train almost as long as you used to.

I would also bring out fruits as well while you’re trying to shed those pounds in 1 week.

Fruits are broadly thought-out to be super healthy but in reality they’re loaded with fructose, which is a raw sugar. The sugar in fruit is going to spike your insulin levels and this is going to put your physique into fat storing mode. When you think about it too, we didn’t have admission to fruits throughout the year so why should we keep taking them in when we aren’t supposed to?

But be sure to eat as much green vegetables as you want during the week to get rid of your stomach fat. This includes broccoli, green beans, brussel bean sprouts and lady finger.

PUBLISHED: 00:53 EST, 5 April 2012 | UPDATED: 00:53 EST, 5 April 2012

Drinking beer is not the main cause of a ‘beer belly’, although it can contribute to overall fatness, scientists have revealed.

A team from Germany analysed the weight as well as the hip and waist measurements of nearly 20,000 people over four years.

Participants were asked to detail how much beer they drank and what else they consumed each day.

Gut buster: Scientists say that excessive consumption of beer will cause weight gain, but this is not exaggerated in the stomach area

Their beer consumption was placed into a number of categories, from ‘very light’ to ‘heavy’.

The researchers concluded that their study ‘does not support the common belief of a site-specific effect of beer on the abdomen, the beer belly’.

‘Beer consumption seems to be rather associated with an increase in overall body fatness,’ they wrote in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

Pint please: Participants were asked to detail how much beer they drank and what else they consumed each day

Women were placed in four categories from ‘no beer’ to ‘moderate drinkers’. Men were put in five categories from ‘no beer’ to ‘heavy drinkers’.

For women, ‘moderate’ meant consuming at least 250ml of beer a day. For men, ‘moderate’ meant 500 to 1000ml a day.

Their estimates were based on the size of a typical bottle of beer in Germany.

A beer belly was defined as one that bulges distinctly as the waist and was proportionally large in comparison to hip measurement and body size.

The scientists – from the German Institute of Human Nutrition Potsdam-Rehbrücke, Fulda University of Applied Sciences and the University of Gothenburg, Sweden – concluded that beer consumption did lead to a rise in waist size, but that this was closely related to overall weight gain in both men and women.

A study in the Czech Republic, published in 2003 in the same medical journal, went as far as to say that drinking beer by itself does not cause much change in weight.

However, the scientists involved in the German study believe that the Czech research was flawed.
