De legendarische Amerikaanse rock-’n-roll-pionier Bo Diddley is overleden. De aan diabetes lijdende zanger en gitarist stierf in de Amerikaanse staat Florida aan een hartfalen, aldus de Amerikaanse nieuwszender CNN maandag onder aanhaling van een woordvoerder van de artiest. Hij werd 79 jaar. Diddley, die geboren werd met de naam Otha Ellas Bates, trad meestal op met hoed, een grote zwarte bril en een zelfgebouwde vierkante gitaar. In 1958 verwierf het bekendheid met het album “Bo Diddley”. Tot zijn grootste hits behoren “Who Do You Love”, “Before You Accuse Me”, “Mona” en “I’m a Man”. In 1987 werd hij in de Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio opgenomen, in 2004 ook in de Blues Hall of Fame. Diddley had in augustus vorig jaar al een hartaanval gekregen, nadat hij drie maanden eerder werd getroffen door een beroerte die zijn spraakvermogen had aangetast.

Well, this isn’t originally a Clapton song, but he does perform it a lot! “Before You Accuse Me” is a classic Bo Diddley tune, and I recently performed it with Soundscape Soul (my band with good friend Matt Aronson) at The Knitting Factory in New York City. I hope you all enjoy it!
