“J’aurai voulu être, wait for it, un artiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiste!!!” mais j’me soigne… Pour moi, pendant très longtemps la photo en tant qu’expression artistique se résumait à d’obscurs cours du soir dans une salle rouge, où l’on utilisait des produits chimiques avec de grandes pinces à linge. Je me contentais de mon jetable, chacun chez soi et les moutons seront bien gardés.

Puis vint le numérique. Et là, tu te dis:”Whaou, trop facile la photo, moi aussi, je veux!”. Pas de problème, petit scarabée, car tu vas transformer tes photos les plus pourrites en photos d’Aaaaart, oui, oui.

• Photofunia ou rigole avec les tronches de tes potes et oublie pas de les tagguer

Le plus cheap des sites de modifs de photos, photofunia, où tu peux faire croire que ta photo a été diffusé sur les écrans de Times Square à New-York, ou que tu es habillée en courtisane.

C'est amusant, on dirait que j'étais un body-builder!

Dans le même genre, Dumpr n’a qu’un seul intérêt: le style Lomo, avec ses couleurs saturées.

Nostalgie, quand tu nous tiens! Poladroid est une application merveilleuse qui permet de transformer une photographie en image avec un rendu Polaroïd (bords blancs inclus!). La photo la plus nulle prend tout de suite des airs de “c’était l’bon temps”…

Be funky permet aux novices de se prendre pour des grands: effets magnifiques, rapidité et surtout ultra simplicité! De plus, il est possible d’envoyer ses photos depuis son ordinateur ou sa webcam ou directement depuis internet et les réseaux sociaux (Flickr, MySpace, FaceBook …).

Fiddling with photos is fun, isn’t it? Whether you’re an advanced Photoshopper or a casual photo snapper, it’s always nice to be able to have a bit of fun with your masterpieces. I won’t be talking about smashing free photo manipulation software in this article – that may be saved for the future – but I will be pointing out a couple of fun websites which let you style your photos in a more exciting manner by allowing you to turn a dull mugshot or landscape into something far more exciting. These  selected online photo tools come in the form of BeFunky, PhotoFunia, and Dumpr.

BeFunky allows you to apply a number of photo effects, in addition to adding items - such as this Halloween Mask and red lips.

Let’s begin with the first of these strangely named beasts – BeFunky. This is my personal favourite of the three, and it differs a bit from the other two. This site is more geared towards adding effects to photos of people, especially faces. There is a small selection of techniques which can applied – such as Warhol, charcoal, and patriotic. After choosing an effect there are also a bit of additional fine-tuning which can be done to the effect. There are sub-options within the main option. For instance, choosing ‘Patriotic’ will change your photo to a typical red and blue style, reminiscent of stereotypical presidential candidate posters. However, this base effect can also be changed by selecting other options within that category, one of which will add a star effect to the photo. Another rather smashing feature of the website is the ability to add extras to photos – anything from hats to red lips are available for your customising pleasure. After completing your masterpiece you can download it your PC for keeping, or send it to a friend so she can marvel at your handiwork. A feature I especially like about this site is that it’s incredibly easy to change the effect you’ve applied without losing the other additions you’ve made to the photo. Photofunia has a wide variety of backdrops for your photos

The second website is PhotoFunia. This one is more centred upon putting a face on landmarks or objects. For instance, you could have your mug carved into Mount Rushmore or printed on a dollar bill. Some of the effects come out better than others – a lot of it seems to be dependant upon the size of the photo; if it’s too small you might have trouble making it look right on some of the designs. However, when they do look right, they’re very good. I was especially impressed with how the dollar came out with Bill Gates’ head on it; it looked very realistic. Finally, we come to Dumpr, the most strangely named of all the strangely named websites. This one is a bit of a mixed bag. There’s some rather smashing photo effects – the Rubik’s cube being my favourite – which will make your images look rather dandy. There are also some more dull ones, which won’t really make them look very interesting at all – such as Lomo, which seems to some sort of faded film effect. Some of them are very clever though, such as the one which adds someone taking a photo of your photo as if they are a famous person (it makes more sense if you see it yourself.) Hello and sorry it’s been a few weeks. Truth be told (would you expect anything less?) I’ve been on holiday…. in Antigua. In the Caribbean. Needless to mention it was absolutely stunning. I have some incredible pictures and, although I began to upload a snap I took, I find WordPress isn’t particularly user friendly in this regard and the picture came out looking completely stupid. I will attempt to upload them again when I have more patience… if you want me to. I say that because I know what its like to be on the receiving end of a barrage of holiday pictures/video’s/anecdotes and never before has the phrase “You just had to be there” been more fitting. So, I’m flexible, let me know- I’ll understand your polite silence as “Don’t bother” and I’ll refrain from throwing myself into a technological struggle with WordPress to post them (as you can see I won’t particularly be offended either way).

Anyway, on with the blog. There are a couple of things I wanted to write about. One actually was my holiday, in a manner of speaking, although it might not be what you expect. Instead of droning on about the beach, the sand, the pool, the food, the people, the cocktails (which were all lovely) I simply wanted to share a few of the funny little things that I experienced while I was there. I ultimately decided to keep a little log of what happened on the holiday, purely via writing little notes on my mobile phone, so it was just a couple of funny things I noted during the two weeks we were there. I hope you find these amusing/interesting otherwise it’ll definitely fall into the aforementioned “You just had to be there” category and I’ll want to kick myself, which is anatomically awkward at the best of times. I really want to avoid that if I can.

First of all I have to tell you that they have wild dogs in Antigua. Wild. Dogs. As a child I’d think that was incredibly cool and endeavour to lead a gang of wild dogs and have adventures, but when you have children yourself the notion of wild dogs is a little alarming to say the least. Thankfully we only saw one wild dog and from her large black teats (for more detail imagine half-chewed liquorice), I guess she had puppies somewhere. I did find this quite sad though, but probably from a restrained English sense of not wanting to interfere I didn’t do anything. What could I do anyway?

Next odd little occurrence was the first time we went onto the (ridiculously pristine) beach. On entering the water for the first time (warm, clear, refreshing, beautiful) we were warned by a large, topless American man (imagine the colour of Cuprinol woodstain) that there was a huge jellyfish about, but he was going to get a stick and fish it out. He never did fetch a stick or fish out a giant jellyfish and in the end he just wandered off. What I thought was strange was that he waited until we were all in waist deep before he told us about it. The only suitable way to reply to that has to be “Yes, it’s wrapped around my leg right now” before screaming loudly at him.

My next experience is a little conversation I had with my 4 year old step-daughter. We were all in the pool and she decided she needed the toilet. It was my turn to take her which meant going to the Gents toilets, rather than the Ladies. “The boys one is rubbish” she said “The girls one is much nicer”, but regardless she went into a cubicle and slammed the door accidentally. After a few seconds I asked he if she needed some tissue (it’s hard to reach from the seat when you are 4) but wonderfully she replied “No, I’m wet already”. I love the ruthless logic of children, and the occasional ignorance of hygiene is really sweet… but in all honesty, it’s hard to argue against.

A further story I want to tell is about the night we saw ‘Mr Moves’, the fire-eater. Like a shop that mends shoes as well as cutting keys, this fellow could also limbo dance. We were sat in complete awe actually as he ate fire, then limbo danced, then ate some more fire, then limbo danced (even lower than before) and so on and so forth, for quite a while. He then began limbo dancing very close to some fire, to the point I feared his MC Hammer pantaloons would catch light and end the show. This fortunately didn’t happen (though I hear the hospital on the island of Antigua is the best in the Caribbean, so he would have been in good hands), and everyone was thoroughly entertained. I asked my step-daughter (the 4 year old one, I have a 10 year old one as well and I’m sure she will feature at some point in my blogs so please be patient), what she thought of ‘Mr Moves’ fire-eating as she had sat in stunned silence for the whole show. “It’s dangerous” she replied (to my relief actually, Mr Moves act could have undone a great deal of household safety advice pertaining to the danger of fire to young children) and “and its rubbish” (I was almost proud, Mr Moves foiled) but then she immediately followed this with “I will do that when I am bigger”. Shit.

Voici un petit moment, je vous signalais l’existence de Photofunia, site en ligne qui permet d’appliquer une multitude d’effets à vos photos, par un simple upload de celle-ci. Ce type de site qui propose gratuitement un traitement de qualité sur vos image fleurit sur le web et fait des émules, tant les services proposés sont de qualité. Voici un recensement de ce qui se fait de mieux dans ce genre d’applis en ligne, afin de pouvoir épater vos petits camarades avec des effets et des traitements d’image surprenants. À noter que tous ces services sont gratuits dans leur quasi-intégralité, et que vous pouvez ensuite partager les images créées sur vos réseaux sociaux favoris. Bon, servez-vous un bon café ou autre, parce que cet article, c’est du lourd…

BEFUNKY
BeFunky est une appli en ligne en Flash qui vous propose de transformer une photo en dessin. Très orienté croquis/sketches, vous pourrez également “Wahroliser” vos photo en un clic, leur donner un aspect pop-art ou de vieux comics des années 50. Bref, une appli idéale pour donner un coup de rétro à vos photo JPEG. Voici maintenant quelques exemples des effets proposés en images :

Toujours dans le même style de “je t’uploade une photo et tu m’appliques un effet”, FunPhotoBox se place en très bonne position. Les effets sont variés, nombreux, et se classent majoritairement dans la catégories des montages-photo, plutôt que des effets proprement dit. Quel plaisir que de se voir en compagnie du Joker, sur la Lune en couverture de Life, ou sur le tee-shirt d’une jolie demoiselle.

MAGMYPIC
Puisqu’on parle de couverture de magazine, voici MagMyPic, dont c’est la spécialité. Vous pourrez créer différents styles de magazine, du mag fashion au mag sexy, etc…

BIGHUGELABS
BigHugeLabs vous propose d’uploader ou de faire un lien vers votre photo, et de lui appliquer différents effets intéressant : créer une carte, un magazine, un puzzle, des mosaïques, etc. Très complet.

PICNIK
On ne présente plus Picnik (si ? Bon d’accord…).
Picnik va vous permettre de traiter vos images (corrections, saturation, look HDR, redimensionnement, traitements divers, corrections des yeux rouges, montages…) de la plus simple manière qui soit. Très efficace. Un exemple avec le réglage Look HDR :

Bien évidemment, je ne pouvais pas faire l’impasse et ne pas le mentionner dans cet article.
Les effets qu’ils propose sont tous de qualité, bien que certains ne soient compatibles qu’avec des photos comportant un visage (Photofunia reconnaît si oui ou non, un visage est présent, et vous avertit si l’image est traitable ou pas par l’algorythme).

As you know,  if you’ve ever read this blog more than once or twice, I love a good Web 2.0 app. And now I have found a new one, BeFunky, which has stolen my heart. Although we did have a little lover’s quarrel at first when BeFunky refused to embed. But like any good lover of worthwhile Web 2.0 tools, I refused to be defeated, and I shall share my secrets with you. Here is what BeFunky can do for you, and how you can force it into submission. Here is the step-by-step scoop:

• Click on “Get Started Now!”
• Select an application: Cartoonizer, Warholizer, Charcola, Patriotic, Inkify, LineArtopia, Stenciler, Sunburst, or Scribbler (Variety is the spice of life, my friend!)
• Browse files to select your picture from your computer, a webcam, a regular website, or a photo sharing site such as flickr
• After you snag your pic, it’s easy to rotate left, rotate right, crop, or just skip editing altogether if your picture’s already perfect
• Voila! Your picture is Warholized! Or in the case of my photo above, Charcolaed.
• Now, you’ve got to do something with it. You can right click and print it, or
• You can upload it to all the places I mentioned before, or
• You can share via email or to your social networking sites, or
• You can save to “My Gallery” or “My Desktop.”
• If you want to post to your blog, select the option of saving to “My Gallery” or “My Desktop.”
• Click OK and then save the file to somewhere on your computer.
• You can then upload or insert the file into your blog.

I’ve been on my feet today and this night I’ve been trying to transfer some old VHS tapes to DVD. I can’t work it out, though. I think I’ve got the scarts connected wrong but I have tried lots of different variations with no luck. I am not a tech person and logical thinking is not my strong side. I don’t go from A to B but from A to F via K and then with a little luck, I end up at B after it’s been explained to me multiple times.

I wanna transfer from the VHS player to my DVD recorder..but I’m leaving it for tonight, though. No need getting stressed out and crying because of THAT. Yup, I am highly sensitive these days. It’s the weather. That’s my story, anyway.

What I really wanted to mention here is that I have found a cool photo effect tool online. It’s called BeFunky and it will turn your photos into works of art. I took an old portrait of mine and turned it into the cool colorful thing that you see in this entry Go check it out for yourself.

Mais um da série “Eu tenho preguiça de usar o photoshop”, Neste site você pode aplicar efeito a uma foto sua ou realizar uma montagem. Sobre os efeitos, você tem uma lista de efeitos que você pode aplicar como por exemplo, transformar sua foto em um cartoon, ou então num quadro, ou ainda em um desenho a lápis, você escolhe, o site aplica o efeito e você ou envia para seu email, ou salva em seu computador, o site é muito simples e possui muitos efeitos bacanas, muito útil.

O interessante é que você pode transformar em objetos suas fotos, por exemplo, transformar a sua foto com o efeito em uma caneca, um chaveiro, um cartão postal, um selo, uma camiseta ou em um imã. Lógico que essa parte não é de graça, fica a seu critério, por exemplo, a caneca sai por $14,90 mais taxas de entrega para o Brasil. Mas é uma idéia criativa para presente.

Sobre a montagem, você escolhe uma foto sua, recorta sua cabeça (no próprio site) e aplica uma roupa (são várias opções de roupas, muito bacana, você pode ser desde um cantor de rock a um espartano).
