Rennetta and Curt gave their guests the SURPRISE of a lifetime. What was supposed to be a reception celebration for a couple who went away to Hawaii to get married turned into an impromptu Wedding Ceremony.

While guests enjoyed cocktails and appetizers the Wedding March sounded over the speakers. Everyone stood in amazement as they watched a gorgeous Rennetta enter the room ready to marry the man of her dreams. We all toasted the happy couple as they kissed for the first time as man and wife.

Second in my series of people photography!!  Now, I know I said that the Mexico series was done with, but, surprise!  More Puerto Morelos pics!  Were these strategically saved for this series or did I just forget to put them with the other series?  You’ll never know.  Anyhoo, its fun to photograph kids doing their kid-ly things.  They always seem so completely absorbed in what they are doing and bring such a fun, carefree-because-they-don’t-have-bills-to-pay  feeling to the photo.  I find that looking at pictures like this always makes me remember how much I liked to do (blank) when I was (blank) years old, long before medical school sort of owned my soul.   

So, this boy and girl were playing in the sand on the shore by the Puerto Morelos pier in Puerto Morelos, Mexico.  They are in front of the original lighthouse that was transformed into the Leaning Lighthouse of Puerto by Hurricane Wilma.  Since it’s more or less non-functional now, there is a new lighthouse a bit further back from the shore.  It is much taller and, personally, if I were a sailor, I’d be glad Wilma killed the old short lighthouse so that I could guide myself home with the more modern upgraded model.

The photo was taken with the Canon Powershot G7.  I used Adobe Photoshop CS3 to adjust the contrast a bit and to bring out the slightly sepia tones in the picture to help create a more nostalgic feel and to highlight the angle of the sun.

I’m just beige. Boring. Normal. I tune out the rest of the world with music, I ignore everyone through reading, I hide away in my room every night doing homework, I write as I please and then scrap the idea ten seconds later. I have no significant quality that can amaze people, enthrall them, or even to relate to them. I spend more time in my room than I do anywhere else. I spend more time doing homework then hanging with my friends. I have no social life, and yet here I am, alive, well and sane. How does that work?

Normal people go insane from spending too much time on their own. They start talking to themselves and then they get kicked to the asylum and then forgotten. I guess I would count as forgotten. In my house, my door never open, no one bothers me. Ever. I could be screaming and I would never be heard. It’s just the way my life works, the way it always have. I’ve always lived up to my parents expectations. Doing well in school, never doing drugs, all the junk. And yet their star child is my sister who gets the most attention of everyone. The only time I get some kind of attention is if I do badly in school. I guess it’s reflexive for me to try to do my best in school, and maybe that’s why I shy away from too much attention. I wear black 24/7 to blend into the background, and yet half the time, I’m trying to be heard, by my peers or by my family. Forgotten. That’s the word for me.

Encore une nouvelle paire de chaussures ?! Eh oui ! Mais c’est un très bon investissement – comme toute autre paire, bien sûr – puisque celle-ci est parfaite pour l’hiver (si ce n’est qu’elle est très salissante !) et parfaite pour interviewer Emma qui tient un blog génial, dont je ne me lasse pas. Et c’est parti, je lance l’interview !

Quand et pourquoi as-tu décidé de créer un blog mode ?  Ca fait déjà un moment que j’ai crée mon premier blog ! Il était sur la plateforme Skyrock. J’ai changé plusieurs fois, puis je me suis dit que Skyblog était assez limité niveau présentation, donc je suis venue sur Blogspot. Emma’s Diary n’est donc ouvert que depuis quelques mois.
J’ai voulu créer mon propre blog parce que j’ai toujours été attirée vers l’univers de la mode, les habits, la haute-couture etc … Et c’est en voyant certains blogs comme celui de Betty que je me suis dit “Pourquoi pas moi ?”. Et puis voilà, finalement je l’ai fait. 

Parle nous de toi (ce que tu fais dans la vie), de ton style, ce que tu aimes porter… Haha je crois que je pourrais écrire un roman sur moi, mais ça ennuierait les lecteurs ! Non sérieusement … j’ai 15 ans, je vis vers Marseille mais un de mes rêves est d’habiter à Paris. Je suis en Seconde dans un lycée privé, l’année prochaine je compte me diriger vers une filière ES, puis plus tard entrer en fac de droit pour devenir avocate. J’ai plusieurs passions hormis la mode, notamment le théatre (que je pratique depuis quatre ans), le chant, la lecture, la peinture… Je m’interesse à beaucoup de choses différentes, la curiosité vient de mes parents. Je trouve important de se cultiver soi et son esprit.

Mon style n’est pas vraiment défini car j’aime mélanger les genres, mais j’aime tout particulèrement ce qui est chic, classe et épuré. J’aime aussi m’inspirer des défilés de haute-couture pour m’habiller. Je suis une folle de chaussures, j’en ai une vingtaine de paires ; depuis peu je porte très souvent des talons. Ma blogueuse préférée est Alix, dont j’admire la beauté et le style.
 
D’ou te viennent tes inspirations ? Les blogs modes, les magazines, tes bons plans mode… ?! Je lis beaucoup de magazines de mode/culture : Elle, Vogue, L’Officiel, Glamour. Parfois Jalouse et récemment Grazia. Je n’ai pas énormément de bons plans mode mais je vais parfois sur des sites de ventes privées comme vente-privee.com ou l’on peut trouver des articles de marques bien moins chers qu’au prix de départ (par exemple récemment ma mère a acheté un sac Sequoïa à 130€ au lieu de 300 environ !). Sinon comme tout le monde je vais régulièrement chez les enseignes comme Zara ou H&M qui font toujours mon bonheur !
 
Une icône mode pour toi ? Je n’ai pas vraiment d’icône mode mais j’admire plusieurs femmes : Coco Chanel, Emma Watson, Keira Knightley, Liv Tyler… Et de nombreux mannequins, particulièrement celles d’Europe de l’Est que je trouve très gracieuses.
 
Pour finir, une pièce mode dont tu es folle ?! Inconditionellement la petite robe noire ! Celle qui me fait rêver cette saison est une Gérard Darel, malheureusement à 357€.

Gift box sale

The weather this morning was particularly nasty. And for a moment I thought hm I’ll just wear boots. Problem is, the boots didn’t work  over my velvet jeans, that I had decided to wear. So instead I braced myself and challenged the elements. Because this was before seven in the morning and I’m not a morning person – changing my outfit the last minute is NOT something I encourage myself to do, that would lead to a whole new mess of problems (missing the bus; getting annoyed with my body, my mind, my boyfriend and the world; deciding to throw out all of my clothes since nothing goes together with anything….)

I hit my head this morning. I was leaning down to plug in my dryer in the kitchen (something I’ve never done before) and as soon as I raised my head… bang! right into the window sill. It’s made out of some type of stone or fake marble, I really don’t know, but it hurt. Then I walked right into Boyfriends espresso maker that’s still on the floor in the kitchen (because we haven’t made room for it on the counter). Is it just me, or do you also have days when you seem to hit anything that comes in your way? It’s days like these when I walk into doorposts for no good reason.

Since I was spending the day at a school I wanted to look: a) comfortable b) young but not overdoing it c) friendly d) not friendly enough for the older kids to not take me seriously. Not that I’m doing anything more than sitting in on the guest lectures we have arranged for them. But still. So I went with this:

I did come to one realization tonight: I am not the mingling kind. But it was a very nice evening anyway, and I did feel appropriately dressed (and I have to mention this – I wore the brightest colors, even though it’s just neutrals)

On another note.

Last time I wrote a very short post on the classic Color me beautiful. But I realized that maybe not all people on this planet has been introduced to this subject, and here I am writing about it like it’s common knowledge. So now, I will try to do an introductory course in “Color me beautiful – discovering your season”.

Lesson one:

What is Color me beautiful?

In the 1980’s there was this  woman, Carole Jackson. Her book, aptly named Color me beautiful, is the most succesful color analysis book (according to Wikipedia). It came out in 1980 and was meant to give you the proper tools to find your season.

You see, her way (and other prior to her mind you) to classify colors were by season. Winter, summer, fall and spring. All of us belong to one season.

The parts that make up your coloring  is your a) skin tone b) hair color (natural, not dyed) and c) eye color. This is what determines your season.

The easiest starting point is to figure out if your warm-toned or cool-toned. Winters and summers are cool, autumn and spring have warm colors in their palette. In my next post I will start describing each season, I think that’s the best way to go around this.

Knowing your season is supposed to guide you to find the colors that most suit you, both in terms of fashion and makeup. The colors from your season are the colors that won’t drain all the color out of your face, make you look blotchy or highlight the dark circles you might have under your eyes.

I do believe somewhat in this system, as long as you don’t take it to the extremes. I believe an amount of rules are good – as a guideline to help you dress and shop. But I am prepared to adjust my makeup from time to time to help me out with a certain color. And I think it’s really about the colors you put next to your face – the rest of the palette of my outfits are supposed to complement each other.

I haven’t quite figured out my season, and I’m thinking about doing the test here, with pictures of that process. But, first and foremost we’re going to go through every season and educate ourselves a little bit more . Next time.
