Hello out there in blog land!

This is my first post and so it will be short because I am still in my jammies! I must get my day on because I have animal mosaics to complete so that I may deliver them tomorrow. I am very proud to be in a holiday show/fundraiser for the Children’s Beach House in Lewes, DE. They do great work in helping children with special needs.

The pieces that I have created are from the “Cartoon Eyes” series. I am very excited about the ornaments titled, “Who’s Looking at Who.” As soon as I figure out how to upload photos, I will post them!

I better get going…later…AAA!

I’m sure most of you are familiar with these images that have been circulating the blogosphere

I’m sure most of you are familiar with these images that have been circulating the blogosphere:

First, let me point out that Al Gore has failed at proving that Global Warming exists. That’s like trying to prove that Santa exists. Sure, wouldn’t it be dandy? But facts are facts and fiction is fiction. So, what does a has-been politician do when his life’s work has been proven time and time again to be a fraud? Well, if this has-been politician is Al Gore; he resorts to Photoshopping “evidence”. I mean, Photoshop trumps science, right? Wrong. Sorry, Al. It doesn’t. Just like whining about pregnant chads doesn’t win an election. YES, we all remember your whiny ass complaining about pregnant chads and dimples on ballots.

In the images above you can clearly see that several massive hurricanes have been Photoshopped. It’s been proven that hurricanes are at a 30 year low. Here are some graphs I found at Watts Up With That:

Both Northern Hemisphere and South Hemisphere AND therefore overall Global hurricane activity has continued to sink to levels not seen since the 1970s. Even more astounding, when the Southern Hemisphere hurricane data is analyzed to create a global value, we see that Global Hurricane Energy has sunk to 30-year lows, at the least. Since hurricane intensity and detection data is problematic as one goes back in time, when reporting and observing practices were different than today, it is possible that we underestimated global hurricane energy during the 1970s.

Using a well-accepted metric called the Accumulated Cyclone Energy index or ACE for short (Bell and Chelliah 2006), which has been used by Klotzbach (2006) and Emanuel (2005) (PDI is analogous to ACE), and most recently by myself in Maue (2009) , simple analysis shows that 24-month running sums of global ACE or hurricane energy have plummeted to levels not seen in 30 years.

Why use 24-month running sums instead of simply yearly values? Since a primary driver of the Earth’s climate from year to year is the El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO) acts on time scales on the order of 2-7 years, and the fact that the bulk of the Southern Hemisphere hurricane season occurs from October – March, a reasonable interpretation of global hurricane activity requires a better metric than simply calendar year totals. The 24-month running sums is analogous to the idea of “what have you done for me lately”. During the past 6 months, extending back to October of 2008 when the Southern Hemisphere tropical season was gearing up, global ACE had crashed due to two consecutive years of well-below average Northern Hemisphere hurricane activity. To avoid confusion, I am not specifically addressing the North Atlantic, which was above normal in 2008 (in terms of ACE), but the hemisphere (and or globe) as a whole. The North Atlantic only represents a 1/10 to 1/8 of global hurricane energy output on average but deservedly so demands disproportionate media attention due to the devastating societal impacts of recent major hurricane landfalls.

Interesting, indeed. Visit Watts Up With That for more information. Unless you’re a liberal. From what I understand; you liberals aren’t all that interested in facts and information. But, it’s there if you ever decide to quit being morons.

If you look at the second image I posted; the one with the faux-hurricanes… you’ll notice that the Arctic has magically disappeared! Funny, since the Arctic ice is currently at the SAME levels as 1979. The good people at Daily Tech pointed this out.

Rapid growth spurt leaves amount of ice at levels seen 29 years ago.

Thanks to a rapid rebound in recent months, global sea ice levels now equal those seen 29 years ago, when the year 1979 also drew to a close.

Visit Daily Tech for more information.

Also, NASA points out that the average temperature of the water near the top of the Earth’s oceans has significantly cooled since 2003. CLICK FOR NASA ARTICLE

BBC has found that we have not observed any increase in global temperatures for the last 11 years. Yes, that’s over ONE DECADE. CLICK FOR BBC ARTICLE

So… tell me… Why does Florida appear to be dissolving in Al Gore’s lame Photoshopped images? What the hell happened to CUBA? Last time I checked; Cuba still exists. Also; look at the SIZE of those faux-hurricanes. Anyone who actually believes this Global Warming bullshit simply WANTS to. There is no other conclusion.

Here’s something fun:
Letting Al Gore know we aren’t falling for his junk science, Portland, Oregon 11/18/09

Wake up, people. He’s cashing in and making BILLIONS off of easily influenced MORONS.

After several months of interminable, fact free and boring ads, the CRTC has spent the last week and a few days trying to get Canada’s broadcasters and cable and satellite companies to come to some agreement on fee-for-carriage, in other words, allowing the broadcasters to get paid for what has always been a free service. As all Canadians know by now the public face of the battle is between the cable and satellite operators who claim they want to save us from the dreaded new “TV tax” and the country’s broadcasters who want to save local television.

Anyone who has paid even peripheral attention to the debate knows that both sides are, forgive the colloquialism, full of crap. The broadcasters have never shown any interest in local TV. The last time CTV cared was when it was a consortium of private owners like the Bassetts in Toronto and the Peters in B.C. who actually controlled the network. The shoe was on the other foot in those days. There was little interest in the network. Since Bell and the Globe Media bought out all the individual owners and centralized the running of the network local has been a bad word at CTV.

It’s even worse at Canwest/Global. Here, there has never been any interest in local TV. Before Izzy Asper got control, Global TV served all of Ontario from Toronto. There was never any coverage of Sudbury, Thunder Bay, Windsor, London etc. In Winnipeg the Asper station was a joke. When I was news director at Global and there were massive forest fires in Manitoba Izzy’s Winnipeg station refused to cover the fires. “Too expensive” they said. “We don’t have the manpower” they argued. We had to send a crew from Toronto.

In truth, and we all know this to be true, all CTV and Canwest/Global care about is the money. They have gone about making this abundantly clear in the past week. When Ivan Fecan, head of CTV, was asked if he would guarantee the fee-for-carriage money would go to local TV and local programming he said no. Canwest/Global said the same. So what was the point of all the advertising produced and aired by CTV and Global? Was it a false advertising? The only conclusion I can come to is yes, it was all a lie.

Further, to prove that money is the only motive, the networks level of greed showed no boundaries, they took their chutzpa to new levels demanding that on top of being paid for their free signals they want to expand simultaneous substitution. According to Michael Geist in The Globe and Mail:

“The broadcasters now wish to expand simultaneous substitution policy with program deletion…when a Canadian broadcaster purchases the rights to a U.S. program, they would have the right to air it whenever they choose within a seven day window. The hook is cable and satellite companies would be required to block the U.S. broadcast of the same program if it did not air simultaneously.
“The proposal, which would lead to millions of Canadians regularly encountering blank screens instead of expected programs, would perversely increase the attractiveness of U.S. programming…it would (also) send more Canadians away from broadcast television to the Internet…”

The broadcasters confirmed as well, they are not willing to invest in digital transmitters for all the local communities leaving residents in small cities like Kingston without any over the air signals, another slap at local TV. To add insult to injury the broadcasters are asking for an extra two years to make the switch to digital. In the U.S. that job was completed earlier this year. CTV and Global want us to wait another four years. You may wonder what difference that makes to you. Well, it means the new spectrum , 700 MHz, that was supposed to come available will not. That means Canada will lose billions of dollars in revenues from selling that spectrum and that new wireless and open internet innovation and competition will not be available to Canadian consumers.

In the face of all this, it should be a slam dunk for the cable and satellite operators. The broadcasters want everything and are willing to give back nothing.

Well that sounds like the real world. The CRTC has seldom, if ever, had close ties to the real world. The consumer is always at the bottom of the CRTC’s list of cares. The CRTC’s job, as they see it, is to protect Canadian TV. Not TV production as in new dramas and comedies, but TV distributors and stations. The reason: without a bunch of TV stations operating in Canada there is no need for the CRTC to oversee television. So they protect the millionaire owners. More important to the CRTC is cable. Every decision they make is to fortify cable. As long as most Canadians get their TV through cable the CRTC is powerful. You see, you cannot block over the air signals at the border, you cannot stop satellite feeds from entering Canadian air space, but you can control Canadian companies who distribute these signals over cable to millions of Canadian homes. Thus, over the years the CRTC has become the political arm of Rogers Cable. I have appeared before the CRTC five or six times and on each occasion at least half the commissioners were former Rogers employees. In many cases they went back to work at Rogers after their term was up at the CRTC. The connection is too obvious and has been going on for too long to call this a coincidence. CRTC decisions inevitably favour the cable companies first, the broadcasters second, the satellite companies third and I have to say it, the consumer never.

So where does this leave the entire debate? It’s impossible. The CRTC can’t hurt either side. It explains why Konrad von Finckenstein says he’s sick of the whole thing. He finds himself on the horns of a major dilemma: how to help the greedy broadcasters without harming the greedy cable companies or vice versa. To make it worse, signals from the government suggest they don’t want the consumer to pay. Tough luck Konny, you lose no matter what you decide. Here’s hoping you don’t take the rest of us with you.

This is the second of three articles recalling hunting and fishing activities of many years ago in t

This is the second of three articles recalling hunting and fishing activities of many years ago in the Carleton Place area.

A century ago in the Eastern Ontario paradise for hunters and fishermen which extended throughout the then united counties of Lanark and Renfrew, locally organized action already was under way to protect wild animals from wasteful destruction. Its first supporters, as mentioned in the preceding instalment of these stories, were a few foresighted hunters and other leading citizens of Carleton Place, Pakenham and Almonte.

Later, with a spreading realization of the economic and esthetic benefits to be gained by men from his protection of wild birds and animals, there came a gradual revulsion against wanton slaughter in the forests, fields and lakes. Among the victims, the long-extinct passenger pigeon still was shot here in numbers in the early 1880’s, as shown by reports of partridge and pigeon hunting in the townships bordering the Mississippi Lake.

First Finds of Indian Relics

Of the native Indians who a hundred and fifty years ago had been almost the sole inhabitants of the Lanark and Renfrew area, only a few stragglers still remained seventy-five years ago in Lanark County. One of district’s first residents to record his interest in the excavated relics of the reign of the Indian hunter was Andrew Bell, a son of the Rev. William Bell of Perth. In the early settlement days here he wrote in a letter:

“All the country hereabouts has evidently been once inhabited by the Indians, and for a vast number of years too. The remains of fires, with the bones and horns of deers round them, have often been found several inches under the black mound. .. A large pot made of burnt clay and highly ornamented was lately found near the banks of the Mississippi, under a large maple tree, probably two or three hundred years old. Stone axes have been found in different parts of the settlement. Skeletons of Indians have been several times found, where they had died suddenly or had been killed by accident in the woods. One was found in a reclining posture with its back against a hillock, and a rough-made stone tobacco pipe lying beside it.”

Another Pioneer Conservation Society

The wild life conservation movement in this district had expanded by the 1880’s to the arousing of organized local support for a wiser harvesting of most of the usual products of rod, gun, spear, trap and net, and for protection of other obviously harmless or beneficial wild creatures. Carleton Place Herald editor James Poole in an editorial of nearly a hundred years ago already had claimed any man who would shoot a robin or other songbird would be capable of robbing his grandmother or of committing any other crime or rascality.

An organization in Carleton Place with these newer ideas for the conservation of practically all main forms of wild life was formed in 1884. Under the title of the Carleton Place Game, Fish and Insectivorous Birds Protective Society it continued to operate for some years. Original officers of the group were William Pattie, president ; Jim Bothwell, vice president ; Walter Kibbee, secretary-treasurer, and committee members John Cavers, Tom Glover, John Moore, Jim Morphy and Jim Presley ; elected at a May meeting in the old fire hall on Bridge Street, when a constitution drawn up by Robert Bell was adopted. Other members pledged to support the rules of this pioneering wild life protective society were William Beck, Peter Cram, Jim Dunlop, John Flett, David Gillies, Charlie Glover, Tom Hilliard, Archie Knox and Tom Leaver ; Hugh McCormick, William McDiarmid, Hiram McFadden, Jim McFadden, Jim McGregor, George McPherson, William Neelin, Robert Patterson and William Patterson ; Dr. Robert F. Preston, Alex Sibbitt, William Taylor, William Whalen, Will R. Williamson, Alex Wilson and Joe Wilson. Out of town sportsmen among the first members were Duncan Campbell, John Gemmill, D. G. MacDonnell and Tom Mitcheson, all of Almonte ; Jim Rogers of Montreal and R. W. Stevens of Ottawa.

At this time fishing on Sundays was illegal here as well as hunting on Sundays. Only about five of these men were said to be still living in 1928 when a story recalling the formation of the Carleton Place wild life protective society of 1884 was published.

A social event sponsored by the Society in its first year was a steamboat excursion to the present Lake Park, then noted as “the old Regatta Grounds.” The “Morning Star” and her two barges, with a number of skiffs in tow, carried three hundred people to the picnic ; which featured a rifle shooting competition, a baseball game, tug of war and track events, croquet, boating, and dancing to the exhilarating airs of the Willis bagpipes.

Game Law Enforcement

Two unfortunate Indians were among those who felt the first punitive effects of the new society’s protective activity. This local story was published in October of 1884:

“Last Wednesday two Indians from St. Regis were about to pack up and leave their camp between Appleton and Almonte, on the Mississippi River, when a representative of the Carleton Place Game, Fish and Insectivorous Birds Protective Society appeared on the spot and confiscated a number of muskrat skins.

The fellows had been warned by the Society to desist trapping the animals until November. The two offenders were brought to Carleton Place. They had in their possession 126 muskrat skins, one mink skin and one raccoon skin. The taking of the latter is not an offence. The poor fellows were in most destitute circumstances.

The magistrate inflicted a fine of $10 and costs and the skins were confiscated. They doubtless intended to do the river above Carleton Place at once, as has been their annual custom. The Protective Society is extending its influence very rapidly in all directions from Carleton Place, having a good representative membership in many points at a distance.”

Duck Shooting Toll

Ducks in the 1890’s remained abundant and were shot by the hundreds by the most experienced hunters. An 1890 published report of two Carleton Place duck hunters’ successes gave totals early in the season of 200 birds for one and 272 for the other, with one shooting 154 ducks in three days in a northerly expedition. Heavy tolls by the relatively small numbers of hunters seemed to make little impression on the duck population.

"Most Americans do not know slavery not only exists in the world today, it flourishes," said Ron Soodalter, co-author of The Slave Next Door, in his presentation in the Pegasus Ballroom Monday morning.

"Somewhere around 27 million people are in bondage in the world today. Now, that’s over twice the number as were trafficked in chains in the entire 350 years of the African slave trade."

Soodalter, an active abolitionist and historian, kicked off International Education Week at UCF as the keynote speaker for the Second Annual International Breakfast. The Slave Next Door presentation concluded the three-part series on "Slavery’s Resurgence" facilitated by the Office of the Special Assistant to the President for Global Perspectives and the International Services Center.

The series began with Somaly Mam, a Cambodian human rights activist, former slave and author of The Road of Lost Innocence: The True Story of a Cambodian Heroine, when she shared her experiences in September.

In October, Micheline Slattery, a human-rights activist and former restavek, or domestic child slave, in both Haiti and the United States, addressed about 300 attendees.

Modern-day slavery includes around 800,000 men, women and children trafficked each year around the world. According to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Web site, about 17,500 of them end up in the United States, with a high percentage received in Florida.

Soodalter suggests a simple Google search on human trafficking for astounding results.

In spite of major federal legislation and anti-trafficking laws passed in 43 states, 103 human-trafficking convictions have resulted, Soodalter said.

Trafficking remains hidden, is largely unreported and difficult to identify. According to the 2009 Trafficking in Persons, or TIP, report, published by the U.S. Department of State, forced labor/involuntary servitude represents the majority of human-trafficking cases in the world. The co-author of Soodalter’s book, Kevin Bales, wrote the original 156-page TIP report, titled “Trafficking Persons in the United States — A Report to the National Institute of Justice.”

“The whole thing is disserving and extending,” said retired UCF foreign language professor David Gurney. “It contributes to the antagonism from people in underdeveloped countries to Western civilizations or Western countries.”

In the 1850s, purchasing a slave ran roughly $1,200, the equivalent of around $40,000 in today’s money. The reality is purchasing a slave today costs as little as $100, which makes them affordable and disposable, Soodalter said.

A trafficking victim lives in fear of violence or the threat of violence daily, he said.

Shawn Cox, victim witness coordinator and licensed clinical social worker with the United States Attorney’s Office, advocates that trafficking is a crime of absolute power over someone. According to the report Cox co-authored, “Victims of Human Trafficking and Trauma,” the psychological consequences of a victim are similar to the consequences of severe or chronic child abuse or experiencing acts of terrorism.

"In case you thought slavery doesn’t touch you, guess again," Soodalter said. "Chances are, the clothes you wear, the food you eat, has been touched by slavery."

The good news is there have been some inroads made recently in the area of agricultural servitude, Soodalter said. When Taco Bell refused to stop buying produce picked by enslaved workers in an effort known as the "Ban the Bell" campaign, it set a precedent that several other companies, including McDonalds, A&W, Long John Silver’s, Pizza Hut, Whole Foods, Chipotle and Burger King, have followed, Soodalter said.

"The message is clear," Soodalter said. "Slavery and worker abuse will not be tolerated. Not here, not now, not ever."

Mark Freeman, public affairs coordinator for the Global Perspectives Office, said they are hoping to continue the series next spring since response has been incredible. Because of the series last spring, students on campus were so spurred into action they formed the unofficial student group “Students Against Slavery @ UCF,” Freeman said. “Students Against Slavery @ UCF” has a Facebook page, and Harry Coverston serves as the faculty advisor for the group.

"Spreading the word is the most important thing," said Frank Hegedus, a senior political science and international relations major. "There is only right now."

I do believe it’s officially that time of the semester where everyone gets cranky, we’re all tired, and we all feel like we’re just … stuck. I certainly do. It’s a time when there are loads of assignments due, gobs of exams to study for, and presentations to give. We’re all feeling the stress and it’s showing.

Time to take a deep breath and settle in for the next 3 weeks.

I’ve also decided not to blog about my recent patient — it’s just too difficult to try to explain what was going on without violating this person’s privacy. In any event, it was a very educational 2 days of clinical on Wednesday and Thursday. I learned a great deal about people.

One funny/disturbing/typical story:

It was near the end of our shift, and we had about 5 minutes until post-conference (where we all meet in the staff lounge and discuss our patients — we’re practicing presenting a patient in case the doctors making rounds need to know from us what’s been happening with our patient). I should preface the rest of the story by saying that, on our floor, we each have one patient for the duration of our shift, and only one. Not all of the patients have a student assigned to them. Anyway, I was standing at the end of the hall doing some last-minute computer charting of my patient, and out of the corner of my eye I see a hard-charging person. I glance up and it’s the mean, nasty, scowling nurse who gives off bad vibes. She’s moving quickly, and she looks up to my right, and I notice that the room nearest me has its call bell (white light) blinking, but I don’t hear it ringing. Normally, the student to whom this room was assigned should have been notified and gone to see what the call bell was. Of course, it wasn’t a student — it was AngryNurse.

She looks at me and says, with a decided sneer at my uniform, “What … students don’t answer call bells anymore?” I replied in an even voice, “I’m sorry, I was charting and didn’t even see or hear the call bell for that patient’s room.” To which she huffed and puffed a bit, and said with disdain, “Well, when I went to nursing school we would go running for every call bell, and wouldn’t be caught dead not answering one.”

Well. Excuuuuuuuse me (said in a haughty tone). I really really really really wanted to respond to AngryNurse, but I bit my tongue. I’ve discovered there are definitely 3 types of nurses on our floor when we’re there:

Awesome Wants to Teach Nurse: he/she seems to enjoy us being there; doesn’t mind telling us why he/she does things a certain way; says “hello” and “goodbye” to us; is happy that we’re helping them at all with mundane tasks.

Indifferent to the World Nurse: he/she seems to kind of drift along aside the students, and doesn’t seem to care either way what we do; teaches if it’s a last resort, but prefers to just do things on his/her own and not involve us; says “thanks” when we do something, but doesn’t talk to us otherwise.

AngryNurse: seems to want to slaughter us and send our bones and tendons and organs to the farthest reaches of the globe and proudly bellows how bitter he/she is to the world and generally makes us want to throw up all over the nurses’ station.

The game saw Bloomington jump out to an 18-9 first quarter lead, but Normal rallied to make it a one point margin at halftime, 27-26. But a 12-1 run to open the 3rd quarter put the Lady Raiders in control, and Normal could get no closer than four points the rest of the way.

Shaneice Bell left midway through the first quarter with her third foul, but she keyed the 3rd quarter run with six points before picking up her 4th foul at the 3:41 mark in the third quarter. Despite being plagued with foul trouble, she finished with eleven points on the night.

Sophomore Tiana Shickel was a force on the boards, pulling down 15 rebounds.

Teasha Harris netted 15 points and controlled the offensive from her point guard position. She also had five steals on the night.

But the top individual performance belonged to Amanda Hainlen, who netted a game high 28 points, including 12 of 13 from the charity stripe. The effort was within 1 of her career high of 29 against Decatur Eisenhower her junior year. She also had 12 rebounds to record the double-double.

The road doesn’t get any easier, as the Lady Raiders return to action tonight against defending conference champion Normal West. In what will be the final intercity tournament contest for Bloomington, the game also looms as a key early matchup in the Big 12 race. Game time is 7:30 p.m., and will be played at Bloomington Central Catholic high school.

There is more ample evidence on the net that many Canadians are dissatisfied with the actual services they do or have received from Rogers, Bell, Videotron, Shaw, Telus, Canada’s major, Monopolistic Media, Telecommunications firms .

For example Phone customers in parts of Canada were feeling frustrated after several hours of disrupted phone service, according to the Canadian Press new service. Some phone calls were dropped during the day. Because the outage was the result of a problem at Telus Corp.. Rogers said it has internal and third party external audit since 2007 as proof that it is the most reliable network. Rogers added Telus lack data on its network performance.

Many Canadians can see clearly that Rogers, Bell, Videotron, Shaw, Telus they all only care about one thing.. maximum profits.. motivated by maximum greed.. AND ARE OFTEN GUILTY OF FALSE MISLEADING ADVERTISING AS WELL., they also too often are mostly finding an excuse to charge the customer even for more.. and yes that they have done with firstly their lies, distortions … sadly also each Corporation tends to copy the other’s bad business practices it seems and no one cares about integrity or the citizens, consumer, the CRTC or the governments now included.

Bell or Bell Bell Mobility Inc offers “Canada’s largest, fastest, and most reliable network.” amongst Rogers, Telus????????

- Maybe Bell the largest but is Bell even the fastest over Telus? Misleading.. is the fast speed consistent, continually or is this an occasional peak speed? what actual speed does the consumer get even? try the http://www.acanac.ca/speedtest/

- Bell is the most reliable?.. and what realistic, honest Data do you have for that even now? Does that include their ISP internet now too? and Most reliable over whom? the US not included? Do please ditch ‘most reliable network’ claim !!!

- and what does it mean ” the court is not in a position to ensure compliance” of honest, truthful advertising by any of these firms?

-Misleading still claims of superiority in ads refer to footnotes such as not available all the time or in all parts of Canada still? all SUBJECT TO EXTRA COSTS TOO

Merely this is ALL still an UNACCEPTABLY a FALSE PLAY ON WORDS..

False misleading advertising has long time been made by Telus, Rogers, Bell and others in Canada while the Ostrich federal consumer ddepartment, government did nothing.. I even wrote to you about THIS ISSUE too and what it takes the courts to deal with everything now, AND so why do we need the government ?

Big Corporations are falsely allowed by our governments to do what they want cause they have big clout with their big monies? ’

It is an established, undeniable fact that at least 40 percent off Bell’s present, past customers have been dissatisfied with the actual customer support they have received in Canada relating to cell phones, internet services, billings, etc. That is why many of them have gone elsewhere even to Videotron, Acanac, etc.

On top of that many people have rushed to get a cell phone and have tied themselves now to a long term telecommunication provider contract while meanwhile very significant consumer features, new application usages have evolved.. and these thus have made their phones obsolete very quickly. Now being able to listen to music while browsing the web and sending email makes a multi-tasking Smartphone an appealing option, plus the ability to watch videos online as well. A cell phone’s integration with popular and widespread Google apps like Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Voice will help with its popularity.

AND ANYONE WHO HAS TRIED TO DEAL WITH BELL SERVICE, COMPLAINT DEPARTMENT KNOWS HOW OBSTINATE, STONE WALLING, UNHELPFUL THEY MOSTLY CAN BE TOO..

The lying spin doctors at the news media, not just the Canada’s major telecommunications firms are now also busy working too .. Bell also does not discriminate, show partiality, it seems ready to abuse anyone.. Competition between Telus, Bell and Rogers, which control about 90 per cent of Canada’s wireless market, intensified when Bell and Telus upgraded their wireless networks, enabling them to sell Apple’s coveted iPhone for the first time earlier this month. Network speed doesn’t matter to regular cell phone or internet users, because it makes no difference for voice usage, but it becomes crucial to the smartphone experience when using bandwidth intensive programs, and for persons who like to view, download multimedia on the net..

Public exposure and prosecution of the guilty persons seems to be most effective way that works for everyone’s benefit in dealing with the bad acts of others still.

The Advertised speed is now again at the centre of a legal dispute between two of the country’s largest cell phone providers. Rogers and Telus. Telus Communications Inc. launched a lawsuit against Rogers Communications Inc. in British Columbia’s Supreme Court over Rogers advertisements that claimed its wireless network is the “fastest” and the “most reliable” in Canada. Rogers claims its mobile network indeed provided faster data speeds than those of its competitors, Telus and BCE Inc.’s Bell Canada. Actually the data speed are not consistent from day one now too and many customers have complained they do not continual recipe the expected, advertised speeds. Telus says its new network offered speeds as fast as those provided by Rogers in areas available. Rogers’ advertising also gives consumers the impression that its network provides better call clarity, fewer dropped calls and more reliable data transmission and even all that is questionable from any communication firm now too.

“Rogers has no network advantage and shouldn’t be misleading the Canadian populace with “false superiority claims?” or any of the Canadian firms now still too.. One can read about loads of customers dissatisfaction about Rogers, Telus, Bell posted on the net now already too. Rogers Wireless was disputing a Bell Canada ad claiming Bell has the “the fastest … network across North America early in the year.” The ASC found the claim to be false, but Bell Canada ignored the ruling and continued to run the advertisement, because they don’t recognize the organization as legitimate. …it seems I only hear bad things about Bell Canada. Are they really that bad? Worse. Plus they offer less and charge more. If I’m not mistaken they are also the most expensive for anything (internet, phone etc)if your not on a contract. Bell has yet to figure out why they keep losing customers

Our monopolistic Canadian wireless carriers are engaging in a war of words over even false words over speeds, reliable, etc., Telus. Rogers, Bell spin doctors all unrealistically say they expect to make loads more money gouging the customers with extra fees.. Dream on. Canadians are known to be cheap for a start eveben. Telus. B.C.’s largest private corporation, now has a “long-term evolution” network that will maybe provides a true global standard in five to six years while others already offer compatibility all over the world . A prolonged recession combined with higher up-front costs for new smart phones has forced Telus Corp. to cut its overall financial outlook for the fiscal year even as it faces greater competition Combined with upfront costs Telus and the others too must pay Apple and other handset makers such as Research In Motion Ltd. for devices means earnings for the year will be lower than expected, Telus said. Canadian carriers pay as much as $400 per iPhone with the hope that subscribers will surf the web, pushing up data revenues. Not a very realistic hope. When Consumers are already money conscious, because of the present recession.

Rogers Communications Inc., has been the market leader in wireless in Canada for years – in part because it was the only carrier to offer HSPA, favoured by handset makers like Apple Inc. The adds also do say “Telus and Bell went live with their next-generation 3G wireless network last week, delivering high-speed Internet service that’s up to four times faster than home service delivered by wires.” Telus has spent hundreds of millions of dollars overlaying its existing cellphone network with high-speed packet access (HSPA) technology in partnership with Bell Canada, The massive 1.1-million-square-kilometre network extends across British Columbia, Alberta and eastern Canada now. This wireless service is available through an Internet stick that goes in a port on any laptop computer, and network speed of 21 megabytes per second that is fast enough to download and view high-resolution video, there is a COST ASSOCIATED WITH UT STILL TOO.. Now that Bell Mobility and Telus Mobility have a joint sleek new wireless network, they have to contend with headaches that had been a concern only to their rival, Rogers Wireless, burdens, like “grey market” unlocked phones and data roaming, The Bell, Telus network reaches also across the two western provinces and into Canada’s major urban centres but still does not cover all of Canada.. Telus/Bell HSPA+ network misses almost 2 complete provinces and northwestern Ontario for any coverage, and does not allow in country GSM roaming.

Telus sues Rogers over advertised claims Telus Communications Co. is suing Rogers Communications Inc., claiming Rogers no longer has the right to call itself “Canada’s most reliable” or “Canada’s fastest” network. So if Rogers wants to continue with this claim, they should cover all of Canada and all their customers. Not just the ones that happen to live in a major city centre. Nationwide coverage??? Not even close. I currently have Telus “high speed” Internet service. On numerous occasions, this Telus service has been slower than my old 56K dial-up service. That is why I am canceling my Telus service as of next week and going with the competition (just to see if they are any better). Telus is in no position to be taking legal action based on Rogers engaging in misleading advertising. Telus does it too, with its advertised claims of high speed internet access. If Telus is advertising high-speed Internet service, it should be high speed 24/7, and not just when the network is not busy. And this is not just my computer or modem being slow, as I have had numerous others tell me that their Telus “high speed” Internet service is very slow at times. A perfect example of the pot calling the kettle black Just another couple of corporate crybabies looking to gouge the customer. http://www.cbc.ca/canada/british-columbia/story/2009/11/18/bc-telus-rogers-lawsuit.html

” its like Satan suing Lucifer cause they don’t have enough room to spread chaos disorder and SCAMS”, ” “ I wish that all three companies would just fry in hell.

” It really is ridiculous that these companies and the people who run them have to sink this low to try to make each other look bad.” Just like our bad Canadian Conservative Politicians now too. ” Yep, but, it doesn’t matter who has the fastest. Neither one of them is offering us 21 mbps devices, and none have been tested to their potential.”

Misleading facts , costs or hidden costs already too. Rogers scrapped its unpopular ‘System Access Fee’ earlier this year, but replaed it with a Government Regulatory Recovery Fee, and increased the price of some cell phone plans. “I suppose that they hoped by putting ‘Government’ in the title that people would assume the fee is legitimate,” quipped Virgin Group Chairman, Richard Branson and “Bell, which owns 100% of Virgin, is the only carrier still charging a system access fee for new customers.” As for the Government Regulatory Recovery Fee, Rogers says it covers “provincial 911 fees, spectrum acquisition, licensing charges, and contribution charges to help subsidize telephone service in rural and remote areas.” It is about half the cost of the old System Access Fee, which is still charged by Bell Mobility (but not Virgin).

This is hard for me to believe, but I had never seen the pilot episode of Veronica Mars in its entirety until today. I started watching in prime time with episode 1.2—with a healthy dose of cynicism—when I was assigned to write about it for a local paper and interview Enrico Colantoni. I had written it off in advance as another Dawson’s Creek-type teen drama. But I fell in love. VM ended up being the first show I can remember that I made sure not to miss, and re-watched episodes, and talked about to friends and co-workers. I worked as an extra on it twice, and an episode was taped where I work. I love this show. And I love pilots. So I have no logical explanation for why I’ve never seen episode 1.1 until now. I write about it with full knowledge of who killed Lily, and all the other secrets that will be revealed, which makes the early hints that much more exciting.

Right away, the theme gritty song, “We Used to be Friends,” grabs you. (Hated when they remixed it for Season 3.) Veronica gives us a succinct and color introduction to Neptune, the town where she lives. It’s populated with the over-privileged and those who work for them.

She’s tenacious: She alone steps forward to help a boy who’s been taped, naked, to a flagpole in front of the high school. She’s smart: She demonstrates thorough understanding of the assigned reading even though she’s dozing in English class. She’s a smartass: When cops come to search her locker, she’s comfortable telling their dog to back off. She’s bitter: Her family isn’t rich and important like the others in town. The bitterness continues as Veronica explains how she used to be in with the cool crowd. Now it looks like her only friend is the new kid, Wallace—the one she freed from the flagpole. There a couple of blue-tinged flashbacks to reveal what her life used to be like, full of parties and BFFs.

After life at school, we see life at work; Veronica’s dad’s P.I. office. Her dad, Keith used to be the town’s Sheriff. (There are lots of “used-to-bes,” in keeping with the theme song.) Currently, V. is trailing Jake Kane on assignment from his suspicious wife. Veronica used to date their son Duncan, and her best friend was their daughter Lily. Lily was murdered, Keith accused Mr. Kane but couldn’t prove anything, was removed from office by recall, and V.’s mom left them. To add insult to injury, people believe it was Keith who leaked a video of the crime scene all over the internet.

The new sheriff immediately found evidence incriminating a Kane employee, and the matter was put to uneasy rest. Also, Lily’s boyfriend, the rich, spoiled bad boy Logan Echolls really, really hates V. In another subplot, V. reveals that she lost her virginity while roofied at some party the year before. This won’t be unraveled until the end of Season 2, but clues are revealed in several episodes along the way. I love when a show asks for a viewer’s long term commitment for payoff.

But wait, there’s more. V.’s mom appears to be shacking up with Jake Kane. The Veronica-Wallace friendship is a little sappy, but it lets the audience see that V. still has a heart, and gives us a look at her mad P.I. skills and twisted sense of humor. She ends up with the local biker gang in her camp, defending her from Logan. It’s a delightfully tangled web. Every little detail will come back in later episodes. Of course, you don’t know that. But the kicker: Keith is still investigating Lily’s murder. That alone lets us know there are plenty of juicy revelations to look forward to.

V. leaves us with this declaration: “I will find out what really happened.” Rest assured, she will.

Weird note: I once saw the first 10 minutes or so of this episode online (in French) and the scene where V. is camped outside the Camelot Motel in her car was the cold open. Here there is no cold open, and that scene takes place mid-episode. Hm.
