What dancer is not constantly tempted to add to her costume collection?The problem is how to add to your collection affordably?
A few times, took stuff just sitting there in my closet and turned them into belly dance (more tribal fusion style) costume.
Well, it happened again. I am on a lace kick. Love lace. Saw sitting in my closet a lovely, beige/tan lace dress that I hardly have an occasion to wear. Decided to see what I could do to make this into a costume and documented what I did this time.
Hopefully this will help give you inspriration and ideas….
1. So here is the lovely dress sitting in my closet which I decide to try to make into belly dance costume. My key piece.  I used this as a skirt!
2. OK, I need a belly dance bra. Went to Target and puchased for just $9 this bra and ordered through a US seller on ebay the lace appique that I sewed on top of bra.

3.  Luckily I had some beading leftover from another costume project.  I sewed this beading along bottom of bra.

4.  Ordered off of ebay from another US seller, this lovely brooch to pin in center of bra.  Only $10.98  with shipping.  Love ebay!  brooch

Black lace shrug5.  To complete bra/top look and that burlesque-tribal, ordered again off ebay this lovely lace shrug for only $20.50.  Incidently wear this with other outfits, very versatile.

6.  On to the skirt.  Had this lovely black with bits of silver thread lace shawl that is a treasure.  It was my grandmother’s.  Wear this with several tribal-fusion outfits.  Added beading leftover from another sewing project. 

7.  To complete looks used feather and flower hair accessories.  And whah lah the complete look for cheap!  Hope this inspires you to check out your closet and items left over from sewing projects to create a lovely, creative belly costume for you!
