Here’s another piece that’s going int the knitted chakra anatomy series. This is a representation of the Third Eye or Ajna (to perceive and command in Sanskrit). This energy center in the body is related to vision and the eyes.

Ensin mutsi ja faija luuli että sillä on vatsatauti, mutta ne oli kuitenkin niin huolissaan, että veivät sen lääkärille. Ei ollut vatsatauti. Sillä oli korvatulehdus! Se sai ensik yhdenlaista penisilliiniä, joka auttoi, mutta ei parantanut. Sillä oli vähemmän kipua, mutta kuume vaan pysytteli ylhäällä (39.7 astetta pahimmillaan). Sit äiti meni takaisin lääkäriin sen kanssa ja ne katto ja kopeloitti sitä vähän paremmin. Ei löytynyt mitään muuta tautia kuin se korvatulehdus. Se sai yhtä toisenlaista, laaja-alaisempaa penisilliiniä, ja jo yhden päivän jälkeen sen kuume oli poissa ja se oli ihan taas oma ittensä.

Mut nyt kun broidi on taas terve, niin on mun vuoro sairastaa. Kuumetta 40,3 astetta!

For Silhouettes, the big event in November was our headline gig at the Varsity in Wolverhampton.

Friday the 13th was a rainy night, and we lugged our equipment though the puddles (not literally) to the venue. During this process, Dan’s new bass amp had a battle with his car windscreen. Let’s just say the bass amp won.

Once we had set up and soundchecked, we sat downstairs for what seemed like eternity and waited for guests to arrive and the night to start. Nay went out onto the streets of Wolverhampton to find some food, and returned with tales of some kind of pork burger, I think he said.

Than the music began.

The first band responded to the dreary weather outside by playing songs about the beach, and summer, and that sort of thing. They finished with an acoustic cover of Jimi Hendrix’s Hey Joe. I’m sure they replaced “Joe” with “Joseph”, for some reason.

The second band delivered a punchy, tight sound, and were being continuously photographed the entire time they were playing. In contrast, my experience with gig photography that night involved my parents saying “We tried to take some, but the room was too big for the flash to work properly.” Presumably the end result being actual silhouettes.

The third band, Greenwood Park, had a sort of 70s vibe. The singer was wearing a Black Sabbath t-shirt, but the songs weren’t all heavy, by any means. (e.g. the riff-tastic “Eagle Man”). It was the sort of thing that my Dad would have liked if he was standing next to me. Which he was, and did.

Then it was time for us.

It was really nice to hear such enthusiastic support from the audience. There was a cheer after every song! Which is a better gig experience than, say, being electrocuted, or frowned at, or having the sound guy wander off outside for a fag during your set.

So a good night overall.

One thing I haven’t mentioned yet is that, on the same night as the gig, we were also supposed to be featured on the radio. On the previous Wednesday, Nathan had been to the studios of KicFM in Wolverhampton to record an interview and song. We heard they would play it at 5pm Friday night as part of their 24 hour Children in Need show.

5pm Friday came and we listened, but nothing. 6pm. Still nothing. Then we had to go out to the Varsity to do the gig. The following day I checked the website’s “listen again” section to try and hear the rest of the show. It wasn’t there. Sunday. Still nothing. Monday… you get the idea. Finally they uploaded the show. Now, I haven’t got time to sift through the entire 24 hours, so I gave up after I reached the midnight show, I think it was. And all I was able to find was this:

Of course as well we’ve got an interview with Silhouettes, who are like Razor… not Razorlight, er, Radiohead.

Oh well.

Our next gig is Friday 18th December at the Wharf Bar in Walsall.

This is what i like! Something I just discovered, that I didn’t think existed in Canada. New Jersey type screamo, all the way out in Victoria, BC. This three piece was around from 1995 to 1998. At the time the band was formed, Paul was still doing Benchwarmer, but not for much longer.

Their first release was a self titled 7″ on Slow to Burn Records in 1995 (I think this may also have been their demo, but I’m not sure). Next year they put out a split with The Republic of Freedom Fighters on Buddy system Records. In 1997, came their big break for out of Canada fans. They recorded a 10 song demo tape, which some songs would end up being released on their second 7″ “The Relationship Between a 1/4 Note and a 1/8 Note” on The Mountain Cooperative. I think the other songs were used for their split with Miracle of 86 (but I’m not sure when that came out), on City Lights Records.
The whole works was compiled into a discography CD in 2007 in Clue #2 Records (I think the label is run by someone of the band, but I don’t know who). This compilation is really amazing. Great digipak with stickers and booklets, etc. I really suggest buying it, even if I posted it here. Totally worth it.

Zorro och jag hann med en hyfsad promenad innan regnet kom i dag i alla fall, trodde nästan det skulle bli fint väder i dag också att döma av hur det såg ut när vi var ute. Så fel jag hade!

I’ve been busy at work in my studio and I’ve decided to post a works in progress series of pieces that are going to be part of my thesis exhibition. For one of the installations in my show, I’m knitting sculptures that are representative of the anatomy that corresponds to the chakra system. The intestines, seen here, are influenced by the 3rd charkra, also known as the solar plexus, or Manipura (Sanskrit for lustrous gem).

Quite a few teams ranked in the Top 5 were almost upset this week.  However, until yesterday, they all held on for the win.  These teams include Kansas, Michigan State, and Kentucky.

Yesterday, it happened.  UNC, ranked #4 or #5 by most accounts, were upset by #24 Syracuse.  The Orange came out of halftime on a 22-1 run.  After that, it was impossible to for the Tarheels to come back.

UNC is a young but talented team.  They will inevitably get  better as the year goes on.  Their main problem is the turnovers.  they average around 20 turnovers a game.  This needs to stop for the Tarheels to get  back in the Top 5

Right now, though, it looks like the Tarheels are out of the Top 5.

hi! i had a super good dream last night and so i shall be happy for the rest of the day (: and all of you are going to be tortured by the millions of smileys that i’m going to embellish this post with. MUAHAHAHAHAH.

hurm so last night i went to esplanade to do my work. bio is the boringest shit ever i don’t know how people can read biology without yawning a million times. its torturous i tell you. well anyway met up with ben after that for dinner. we were looking around for some not so high class not so low class place so we decided to go check out that prego place bize was talking about. zomg bize it’s so expensive please. i think its as expensive as original sin. so since ben only brought 20 dollars (or so he told me) we decided to change place to this other place called canele.

during dinner:

ben: fay, can i pangseh you for awhile?
me: why.
ben: i need to shit cause just now i didn’t get a chance to shit.
me: krr. okay.

but he didnt take very long. i think it was barely ten minutes. wow how you shit so fast. amazing. you must have really wanted to go there and then.

and thennnnnnnnn it was bill paying time! and wow tis the 2nd time me and ben encountered an omg-no-money-to-pay-oh-wait-a-minute-actually-got situation.

ben: fay yours is 21 bucks. which means you owe me 2 dollars.
me: what are you talking about i freaking paid you 21 dollars so i don’t owe you anything.
ben: no got some more service charge that i didn’t add properly.
me: oh okay.
waiter: urm sorry, the bill is $40. (apparently we only paid $32+)
ben: fay, you only gave me 1 $10 note.
me: no i did not i gave you 2 $10 notes and 1 $1 coin. YOU ARE THE ONE THAT DIDN’T PAY ENOUGH.

oh and another embarrassing thg that happened was when we were at THAT CD SHOP listening to some cds i pronounced wagner as wagner. lol. ben was like ITS VAGNER WALAU YOU DAMN THROW FACE. he and his throw face. he said that phrase at least a hundred times yesterday.

then we walked around and did rubbish at zara. benjamin the embarrassing was jumping up and down trying to get the bags down and squealing and attracting attention. omg seriously yesterday was really very embarrassing. i dunno what the hell was wrong with us. so bla bla bla went to starbucks and chilled and then went to esplanade.

oh and the last embarrassing thing. while we were crossing the road we were laughing about something and while we were halfway through the cars honked at us cause krrrr the green man no more alr. urgh embarrassing.

reached home at 11 super tired. and then smsed bize about the hotel thg and yay! lets hope it happens!

I wanted to start this blog entry by giving a big thank you for all of your prayers and encouragement as I prepare to go to Africa in February.  I can not believe that it is 11 weeks until I will be leaving for Africa.  I also wanted to thank all of you who have generously opened up your checkbook to support my trip, I am happy to report to you that I have completed my fundraising.  Your outpouring of generosity is greatly appreciated by both Jennie and me.

We had our first team meeting this week and it was good to talk with others that have been to Africa before to learn more about how to prepare myself for the culture shock that I will indeed feel the moment I step off the plane in Nairobi.  Our team from Hope Church includes 7 people that will be going on the Kenya portion of the trip and 4 people that will be going on both the Kenya and Rwanda portions of the trip.  Please pray for our team to be able to grow to know one another well in these next weeks as we prepare to spend almost a month together in Africa.

Personally I ask for your prayers for myself and Jennie as we prepare to spend a long time a part for the first time in our marriage.  I also ask for your prayers to calm my nerves about traveling in a place where I have no idea of what to expect.

As the trip is getting closer I plan to start updating the blog every week, and when I am in Africa I hope to be able to write everyday.

“I don’t know how to swim exactly correct,” Ben said. “I just swim.”

I was talking with my spouse about why my brother, Michael, seems to swim in slow motion, not splashing and earning compliments from 80-year-old women, who I imagine wear swimsuits with a ruffle like a bed skirt around their hips. Ben said he doesn’t care if he splashes, and I said maybe he wasn’t using good form (or grammar).

This conversation was weeks ago, but what Ben said has stuck in my mind. Partly because he said it so matter of factly that it made me laugh. But also because it’s the kind of motto that people should live by.

So here it goes: I don’t know how to blog exactly correct. But I’m going to do it.

Step One: Come up with a blog title. Back when I pretended I was going to be a writer (aka, college), I loved writing titles. I almost loved writing titles more than writing the rest of the story. I still have a notebook full of titles with no stories to go with them (yet).

I wanted to call this blog “Little Yellow,” on account of my being a 100-pound halfsie Asian, but I just learned that someone beat me to that title a long time ago.

So I went with something simple: my name, backwards, which has been my screename for years.

Which leads me to Step Two: Decide what to write about. I figured I’d keep it just as simple: my life, backwards. Or at least somewhat out of order. I expect some posts will be about the current day, but many will probably reflect back on my childhood or maybe each day will be backwards. I haven’t quite figured out what will keep me and you (if I’m lucky enough to have readers) interested.

Step Three: Make her open that box. Wait, that’s not right …

Ben returned to school for the first day yesterday and seemed to get back in the swing of things with no trouble at all. The ladies who work there report that he was eating like a horse. I can’t blame him — after being stuck at home with nothing but rice, bananas, and applesauce for 10 days, I’d eat a tin can if you put some soy sauce on it. Speaking of that, Ben has developed a craving for rice covered in teriyaki sauce. Don’t ask me why.

Lately Ben has been waking up very early (say around 4:30) and being very upset when I come in to get him. We decided to wait him out and let him calm himself down, which works, but it doesn’t make that last 90 minutes of sleep very easy for Marcie and myself. I wonder why this is happening?

It’s been over a week now and I’ve buried my discontent long enough. I would go as far as to say I am damn near cantankerous. It just sits there, everywhere, mocking me. In newsstands, book stores, websites, on Entertainment Tonight AND the Insider (that’s a straight hour). I could no longer hold back the flood gates of frustration. I had to know. How is it possible that, for the eleventh straight year of eligibility (although I was confirmed as a man by the Catholic Church at 15), have I been overlooked again for Sexiest Man Alive. Sure George Clooney won, I get it, I would be his man whore, but he’s already won before. Did you know for some God forsaken reason Richard Gere’s won twice (or in his case Buddha forsaken)? There is obviously very little thinking outside of the box going on in the editorial offices. Where’s the creativity? Are they just thumbing through Esquire and pointing when they see a splash page? Why tell people what they already perceive when they can be a voice of true authority?

I mean I could understand for the first few years of my youth. I was young and needed to be batted around a bit. In college, I was frequently covered in very un sexy paint stained clothing and rarely showered as much as I should, but I always cleaned up very sexily. So I needed to spend some time learning the ropes of sexy and paying my sexy dues. I was fine with that then, but now, even after all of my toil and preparation, it’s like they’re not even considering me. I have the hair, the eyes and my body isn’t gonna get any less fat. My time is now, I may never be sexier.

I need a real answer. After searching around a bit, using my sexy charm and calling in some favors, I finally got a number to an editor at People. Her assistant’s name was Barbara. Barbara had the cute and cordial accent of a girl from coal mining town, but I wasn’t disarmed. I was on a fact finding mission and immediately asked to speak to her boss. She said that my request, “was impossible,” and I knew it was crap. I should have held out but I just started in on her.

“Why haven’t I been considered for Sexiest Man Alive?” She then asked who I was and I told her. She said she’d never heard of me. I said why does that matter? She explained that you had to be famous to be Sexiest Man Alive. So I asked since when does being Alive have anything to do with being famous. Was she saying that my life was in balance with my Q rating? Or is anonymity like a malignant cancer? Would I live longer if I had starred in a movie with Susan Sarandon or Shaquille O’Neal? That’s when it became obvious that I was taking dead aim at Nick Nolte Mr. 1992, who is neither sexy nor alive. There’s been a distinct Weekend at Bernie’s vibe with him since Streisand denutted him in Prince of Tides. Did you also notice George Carlin started to suck right about that time? Also in POT. Then I listed past winners I was definitely more sexy then: the other being Ben Affleck.

I was too worked up to make sense. After taking a few breathes in the nearest black bodega bag, I laid back and thought of all the things I do have: like a very comfortable couch to lay back on. Then I apologized to Barbara. It wasn’t her fault, it was the editors, but next year I would prefer a phone call and left my number. I snapped my phone back into its folded rested position and took up my Play Station 2 controller. I felt, although no one could see me that I was very sexy at that very moment. Definitely sexier then Affleck and the world was just a phone call from finding out.

Friday, November 13^th was a major day for anyone following college basketball recruiting. All of the basketball community converged on Ames, Iowa to hear where top recruit Harrison Barnes was going to spend his college years. The announcement was carried live on ESPNU, and was streamed live on several websites on the internet.

Barnes was picking between Duke, Kansas, UNC, UCLA, ISU, and Oklahoma. Most signs pointed to Duke. Duke had been recruiting him for the longest, and good friend Kyrie Irving had already committed to Duke. Kansas was considered out the day before the announcement. UNC was the relative newcomer to the party.

Now, we all know what happened. Harrison Barnes committed to the Tarheels via Skype, surprising quite a few people. It is amazing to me that coach Roy Williams could come in so late in recruiting a player and get him.

This is just a testament to how good of a recruiter Roy Williams is. Teams that were much more involved with Barnes didn’t make the cut. It was obvious that UCLA, ISU, and Oklahoma were probably out, but after that what happened to Duke.

The truth is that Mike Krzyzewski has been burned by quite a few recruits. Among these are Barnes, John Wall, and Brandon Knight. To me, it is obvious that Duke needs to change their recruiting strategies. The recruiting process has become so competitive, and Coach K has had a hard time over the last few years.

Kansas Coach Bill Self reportedly knew about his team not getting Barnes before hand, proved by the coach saying that he wouldn’t be watching the announcement.

All this just proves how great a program that UNC has built.

There are so many reasons I can think of to explain why I have the best Husband. No, really I am a tiny bit spoiled.

A few of the reasons that come to the top of my head:

1) He cleans and does dishes and laundry a lot of the time. I rarely if ever have to ask him to.

2) He is pretty much the primary cook in the house. I actually put in little effort to most meals.

3) He makes me coffee or tea pretty much every morning.

4) He respects my addiction to Q-tips….seriously i need a support group!

OK now that I read the list I can see that many people are probably thinking their husbands or significant others do all of those things too. And that none of them really set my husband out from the crowd. Also that they might be sort of shallow reasons. So here are some of the other bigger things that are so great about Ben.

1) He is the most supportive person I have ever met. I can not think of a time he has ever been judgemental in a decision I have made or in a new idea I have. When I expressed interest in taking up photography, but that i was very nervous about it especially because i have so many great photographers in my family. Ben quietly supported me and encouraged me in a way that at first I almost didn’t notice what he was doing. We would go for walks, he would bring his camera pretty much everywhere, and he would ask me every now and then if I would like to try taking some pictures. Slowly I started using the camera more and more, so much that Ben went and bought me my own so he could have his back!  He helped me to become confident enough to embrace something I was passionate about without being so fearful.

2) Ben is the most passionate person I have ever met. When he gets excited about something he generally does not hold back. If he finds out something exciting say about our company and we are in the middle of a mall. He jumps and grins and raises his vouce a bit in excitement without worrying what other people are thinking of him. He is so passionate about music, food, the environment, his family that sometimes I wonder if he found an eternal spring of passion that I don’t know about.

3) One of the things I have a hard time wrapping my head around is how easily and wholly Ben loves me for who I am. Just like a lot of women (and men) I can struggle with confidence in myself. I can look at some of my negative qualities and wonder how he sees around them or how he can love me for them. I mean my poor family had to put up with my stubborness because I was born to them…..somehow Ben chose it!! 

4) We are very  different ….but at the same time very much the same. Our core values are identical. Which to me is the most important thing. But we have some different traits and interests, as well as some that are the same. The important thing there is that we both respect and encourage each others interests and passions no matter what.

5) We can make each other laugh like no one else can. Laughing together is one of my favorite things we do together.

So obviously I could keep going and going but I think you all get the point. I have an amazing husband that I love very much. We have a great relationship(struggles and all). He has taught me more about myself then anyone else ever has. We love together, we grow together and we laugh together….who could ask for more?

One of the coolest parts of the night was signing Nick’s Adidas and also the Jenga blocks. I think the blocks were Rachel’s idea. Great memories! Happy Birthday to Ola and Til Next Time, Nick!
