Green tea is called Camellia Sinensis (Latin). It comes from the same evergreen shrub that black tea comes from. Green tea is obtained by the light steaming of fresh tea leaves. The light processing method of tea leaves to make green tea leaves behind polyphenols, including the powerful antioxidants proanthocynadin and catechin.

Grocery store varieties probably provide green tea benefits, but may not be as tasty – particularly if they’re just labeled “green tea” rather than as a specific type. For the best green teas, shop in Chinatown or in an Asian market. Or if you don’t like the taste of green tea, or don’t like the idea of drinking so much tea every day, you can purchase green tea extracts and supplements that provide green tea benefits without the trouble or taste.

A number of websites have published recent findings on green tea studied by Dr Hsu. In these findings Dr Hsu points out that some of the health benefits provided by green tea, and in particular those related to the skin, may be due to EGCG in green tea re-activating dead skin cells. The Nutra Ingredients website said the following regarding these recent findings, “’When exposed to EGCG, the old cells found in the upper layers of the epidermis appear to start dividing again,’ Dr Hsu said. ‘They make DNA and produce more energy. They are reactivated.’ While further research is needed, he suggests that if dying skin cells can be energized, skin condition could be improved. This could benefit skin conditions including psoriasis, rosascea, wrinkles and wounds.”

Green tea also provides health benefits for those trying to lose weight as it has the ability to speed up the metabolism and help to burn fat. Green tea combined with a program of diet and exercise is therefore recommended for those trying to lose weight. The health benefits of green tea for diabetics and in the prevention of diabetes are found primarily in a component of green tea known as EGCG according to the Life Enhancement website which also recommends other teas, “In the tea study, however, chromatographic analysis showed that the chemical compositions of the green and oolong teas were very similar, and the authors state that in both cases, EGCG was the main active ingredient in terms of the insulin effect.”

Infections are another commonly fought problem associated with green tea’s antioxidants. The power of those substances has been known to ward off the bacteria of disease and stimulating immune response to better protect the body.
Another great effect of antioxidants is the reduction of acne. Green tea has been sworn by many to be as good an acne treatment as any of the various lotions and moisturizers you’d find in a grocery store. By lowering the amount of toxins in the skin, swelling immediately decreases. Not only that, but hormones which cause acne are decreased as well.Green tea contains antioxidant known as polyphenols which fight against free radicals. What this means it helps you fight against aging and promotes longevity. Scientists in Japan have found that EGCG (Epigallocatechin Gallate) in it can stop HIV from binding to healthy immune cells. What this means is that it can help stop the HIV virus from spreading.

The Benefits of Green Tea: Why It’s Good For You

For thousands of years, the Chinese have been drinking green tea that has long been attributed for its medicinal properties, which the Chinese believe to be responsible for treating different kinds of illness, and it is also linked to longevity where the Chinese have the highest rate for people over the age of a hundred. However, although the Chinese have been drinking this kind of tea for centuries, it was only recently that green tea has been introduced and became popular throughout the planet.

Scientists and nutritionists have found that this wonderful brew does indeed have medicinal properties that can help in preventing several types of illnesses, which even includes cancer. In fact, there are even doctors who recommend green tea and even endorses that this particular tea plays a great role in maintaining good health.

Health professionals all over the world recommend that people should drink 3 to 4 cups of green tea a day in order to help in protecting the body against various ailments. So, just what are the benefits of this so called miracle brew that it even baffled health professionals from all over the world? First of all, this tea contains high levels of antioxidants, which are called polyphenols or flavonoids.

What are antioxidants you may ask?

First of all, you need to understand that the body does millions of processes occurring at all times. Even when you are asleep, the brain is active and will require oxygen in order to function properly. However, the oxygen that we breathe in can create harmful side effects, or what most people know as oxidants. These oxidants or commonly known as free radicals are introduced to our system through external sources, such as pollution, stress, smoking, diet, and even exposure to the sun.

And, these free radicals are known to be one of the main contributors in the growth of cancer cells.

So, in order to counteract the effect of oxidants or free radicals, we will need to introduce antioxidants in our body. And, green tea has a lot of them. Although some foods do have antioxidants, you will see that green tea has a lot more.

In fact, the antioxidants found on green tea are much higher than that found in grape juice and red wine. This explains why there are a lot of scientists who are studying the benefits of green tea. Besides antioxidants, this brew also contains vitamins, such as vitamin B6, which plays a vital role in the metabolism of the body, as well as vitamins B1 and B2, which are essential for releasing energy from food.

Another great thing about this tea is that it has key minerals and contains magnesium, which is essential for bone growth and body development as well as potassium, which helps in keeping the heart pumping normally and maintain the body’s fluid levels. All in all, green tea can provide great benefits to the body. It can inhibit the growth of cancer cells, it discourages diabetes from developing, and it also is a very good treatment for bad breath.

And that’s not all; there are some studies that found that green tea can also fight acne, Alzheimer’s disease, and fights of bad cholesterol which are the sole contributors for heart diseases and stroke. Today, there are also some scientists that claims to find that green tea may contain the key ingredient for finding a cure to HIV as it helps boosts the body’s immune system.

These are just some of the great benefits of green tea. So, the next time you feel like drinking tea or coffee, you might want to go for green tea. With this brew, you can be sure that you will be able to enjoy a refreshing drink as well as a healthier body.

In the world where many diseases emerge every year, it is common for people to think about their health. This is why many companies are producing products that have potential health benefits for the consuming public. One of most marketed products today are health drinks that were derived from plants with soothing properties such as tea.

Tea itself is considered a health drink especially for the Chinese who have been using it for its medicinal benefits roughly 4,000 years ago. In some other countries where there is cold climate, tea is a very popular drink next to water. Basically, tea comes in four types: the black tea, the oolong tea, the green tea, and the white tea. Each of which is said to have benefits that can help the overall well being of a person.

Green tea’s secret

But among all these types, green tea stands out because many health drinks, beauty products, and even food make use of it. Experts say that the reason behind this demand for green tea is because it is rich catechin polyphenols—more specifically in “epigallocatechin gallate” or EGCG, which is a very powerful anti-oxidant.

Coming from the leaves of the plant called “camellia sinensis,” experts say that green tea is considered superior among the rest because it is processed in the very different way. Unlike other types of teas, which are obtained from fermented leaves, the leaves of green tea are steamed. This is to ensure that the EGCG will not be oxidized unlike the fermentation process where the EGCG are converted into other forms of complex compounds.

Health benefits

One of the reasons why people use healthy drinks and products that are derived from green tea is to maintain a healthy body that is free from diseases or illnesses.

Since green tea is believed to be the healthiest among other types of teas, people consume it to veer away from certain medical conditions or to cure existing health conditions such as cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, high cholesterol levels, cariovascular diseases, infections, tooth decay, and various impaired immune functions as well as help people to lose weight.

More and more people who are at risk with cancer and even those who are already suffering from the condition are using green tea as a health drink because of its high EGCG content. Experts believed that EGCG could inhibit the growth of cancer cells in the body by killing the cells without causing harm to other cells and tissues.

Many companies also use green tea in their products because EGCG itself can lower LDL cholesterol levels while inhibits “thrombosis,” the abnormal formation of blood clots in the body which are major causes cardiovascular diseases such as heart attacks and stroke.

In the field of losing weight, more and more people are using green tea as a health drink because it is believed that the extract from the green tea is able to burn more calories compared to placebo or caffeine. For those who have dental concerns such as tooth decay, green tea can also help avoid this because it contains bacteria-destroying properties that kills the bacteria in plaque.

Although green tea has many proven benefits to people who use it as a health drink, experts still warn that it should be used in moderation. This is because green tea still contains caffeine, which can cause insomnia attacks to people who have low caffeine tolerance.

Oh! how I relish the morning cup of tea as I browse through websites for news., the green tea has become my usual hot drink and I prefer it over anything else first thing in the morning. Off late I have seen aisles in the grocery stores stocking up all kinds of green tea.

Where Did It Come From?

The history is shrouded with a lot of myths but one popular one has it that the Chinese Emperor Shen Nong, over four thousand years ago, had first green tea drink by accident. One day while sitting in his garden and preparing to drink hot water, as was his custom at the time, a leaf broke free from a nearby plant and fell into the hot water. He tasted the mixture and liked it. Immediately, he began the search for different varieties and tastes and the world of tea was created.

I believe that making small changes in diet and nutrition can have an absolutely huge impact on over

I believe that making small changes in diet and nutrition can have an absolutely huge impact on overall health. A couple of years ago, I turned my diet upside down and began eating mostly organic. I cut out lots of the foods that I knew were bad for me and quickly noticed a big difference. Within a couple of months I felt way better, lost weight, my painful periods became less significant and was fatigued far less often.

I thought to myself,” not bad for a few easy changes.” I’ve always been a caffeine junkie, and I knew I should probably ease up on my daily caffeine intake. I switched from coffee to green tea and it was a bit difficult at first. Then I read something that made the switch worthwhile and then some.

A study out of the University of Mississippi found that an anti-oxidant in green tea, EGCG, had a major impact on preventing breast tumor growth, well in mice anyway. This really blew my mind.

As I mentioned in my last blog entry, a few years ago my grandmother died of breast cancer and I was just amazed to read that something as simple as drinking green tea or taking EGCG could have potentially had such an impact. Perhaps she would have lived longer with a little green tea.

The researchers concluded that with frequent use of EGCG, tumor growth was significantly impacted. Facts such are these are why I started this blog. I wanted to let other people know that a really easy and simple change in diet might very well save their life. In a way that is crazy isn’t it? A few simple changes in diet might save your life and prolong your life.

Personally, I don’t have any food that I love enough to die for-no matter what I may say in a moment of weakness. If you are still not convinced here is more good news about green tea and its powerful antioxidant EGCG. EGCG appears to have a powerful impact on other cancers as well. The results with breast cancer are really exciting; apparently they reduced tumor size by about seventy percent. Seventy percent, that is pretty amazing.

But, wait it gets even more amazing. A study out of Nagoya University Medical School in Japan on mice, yes once again poor little mice, found that the group that was given the green tea extract EGCG survived breast cancer about ninety-four percent of the time. The survival rate for the mice not treated with EGCG was about thirty-three percent. The scientists have concluded that green tea has the ability to prevent some of the DNA damage caused by free radical. To be blunt, this is some powerful stuff folks.

I take EGCG every day and drink at least a couple of cups of green tea and often a lot more. This is such a great example of how a small change can totally change your overall health and maybe save your life. Its an inexpensive change, its easy and now that you know, don’t you think you should be doing it?

There are many healing properties in this amazing drink

Green tea has often been thought to play a role in reducing or preventing cancers. The scientific evidence is not yet conclusive, so we can’t quite state that drinking green tea will reduce your risk of cancer, but it certainly can’t hurt. There is enough research that points that way to make it worth pouring yourself a cup. There is a specific antioxidant, epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) contained in green tea, that seems to be responsible for the decreased risk of cancer, or decreased tumor sizes. White tea has been also been claimed to be effective, possibly even more so than green tea, based upon preliminary studies.

According to the U.S. National Cancer Institute, in laboratory studies using animals, catechins (in green tea, the EGCG) deactivated oxidants before cell damage occurred, reduced the number and size of tumors, and inhibited the growth of cancer cells.
</sup>

An article in New Scientist magazine mentions that numerous studies suggest that green tea protects against a range of cancers, including lung, prostate and breast cancer. Their research showed that growth of human lung cancer cells with a cell receptor called 67 LR is slowed significantly after drinking just two or three cups of green tea, which contains EGCG. The research also showed that 67 LR is involved in the propagation of prion diseases such as human Creutzfeldt-Jakob (related to mad cow disease in animals). This is not direct evidence of tea’s effect on prion diseases, but a hint that EGCG’s effect on 67 LR is an interesting lead in the search for treatments

Another study from the Life Science journal Carcinogenesis demonstrated that green tea, in combination with the drug tamoxifen, is effective in suppressing breast cancer tumor growth.

The anticarcinogenic effect of green tea on gastric cancer was first reported, then refuted by Japanese studies. The effects of green tea on gastric cancer reduction still need further research to hold claims that green tea is effective in gastric cancer reduction.

Topical applications of green tea extracts (EGCG) have protective effects on UVA- and UVB-induced skin damage (photoaging and carcinogenesis).

While the research is still all preliminary, it certainly appears that the ECGC in green tea does have an anti-carcinogenic effect in the body. This is certainly enough to make me drink a cup or two a day. It’s a tasty drink, zero calories, and might keep me safer from cancer? That’s a no-brainer. Stay tuned for many more of the health benefits of green tea – fighting cancer is just the beginning!

Green tea consumption is reportedly associated with various health-promoting properties. For example, it has been shown to promote fat oxidation in humans at rest and to prevent obesity and improve insulin sensitivity in mice.
In a study performed at Birmingham (UK) University, it was shown that average fat oxidation rates were 17% higher after ingestion of Green Tea Extract than after ingestion of a placebo.[4] Similarly the contribution of fat oxidation to total energy expenditure was also significantly higher by a similar percentage following ingestion of Green Tea Extract. This proves that ingestion of Green Tea Extract can not only increase fat oxidation during moderately intensive exercise but also improve insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance in healthy young men.

Many people are turning towards green tea as a source of beauty and wellness. The Chinese culture has been utilizing and reaping the benefits of green tea since the ancient times. Since then, there have been many studies which confirmed the numerous health benefits of this valuable refreshment. One such study was completed in 1994 by the Journal of the National Cancer Institute. What that particular study revealed is that drinking green tea reduced the risk of esophageal cancer in Chinese men and women by almost sixty percent. That is truly amazing!

Other studies have shown that green tea contains a compound that slows down the growth of cancer cells. A top of that beneficial factor, green tea also aids with cholesterol numbers. Not only does this refreshment help in lowering cholesterol, but it also keeps the good and bad cholesterol levels in stable conditions. These are excellent benefits which can be attained very easily if you are willing to incorporate this product into your diet.

There are many other health aspects in which green tea is beneficial. This particular drink can aid in rheumatoid arthritis, cancer, cardiovascular disease, infections, and impaired immune functions. With so many health benefits, who wouldn’t want to enjoy a cup of green tea each day. However, be sure that you are drinking pure green tea. You don’t want to buy a bottle of processed and sugar infused green tea at the gas station. Simply take the time at home to boil some water and make your own sugar free tea. It might not be as delicious as the store bought bottled green tea, but it will definitely offer a lot more health attributes. So the next time you are sitting around watching television, think about making yourself a cup of green tea instead of coffee or soda.

For a while last year, I was drinking 5 cups of green tea a day. I started doing it when the calorie-burning green-tea soft drink Enviga first came out. Drinking green tea in quantity has been proven to boost weight loss, and I figured it couldn’t hurt to try it, especially because I like tea anyway and normally drink a lot of it. I didn’t want to spend outrageous sums on those little cans, though, so I decided to go the cheaper route of slurping down several tea bags’ worth of the celery-colored liquid on a daily basis.

I haven’t been quite as consistent in my green-tea consumption lately, not since starting my new job. I still drink several cups of tea every day, but more often than not, it’s black tea. A recent posting on Yahoo!’s food blog has prompted to resume my green-tea habit.

Green tea achieves superfood status because of its polyphenols. Here’s a short list of the body benefits of this extraordinary beverage:

Cut your cancer risk

Soothe your skin

Protect your skin

Steady your blood pressure

Protect your memory

Stay young

Lose weight

Despite its benefits, green tea can be an acquired taste. At first I didn’t like the flavor; it wasn’t robust enough and had a grassy aftertaste. I’ve now developed an appreciation for it, but Maggie Nemser, a health blogger at Shine.com, hasn’t quite gotten there yet. She’s looking for ways to jazz it up with milk or sweeteners. She needs to stick with soy milk or another non-dairy option. According to Wikipedia’s write-up on green tea, “…adding milk to tea will block the normal, healthful effects that tea has…”. Apparently, “casein from the milk binds to the molecules in tea that cause the arteries to relax… Plant-based ‘milks’, such as soy milk, do not contain casein and are not known to have similar effects on tea.” I recommend unsweetened vanilla almond milk. At only 40 calories per cup with a gram of fiber, it’s a yummy alternative, unless you have nut allergies.

Starting this week, I am drinking more green tea, and I’ll be carrying it in my bag for business lunches and road trips. It’s just one more way to keep myself healthy now and in the future.

Green tea has become a popular drink for those who want to shed some pounds. There are compounds within the tea that promote weight loss by increasing your metabolism. Aside from weight loss, green tea promotes a healthier body by killing bacteria present in the food you take in. Further studies show that green tea can also rid your body of bad cholesterol. It is a way to live with a healthier heart and a leaner physique. Although how tea influences cholesterol levels has never been explained in detail, studies have shown that certain compounds in green tea play a vital role in reducing the amount of unhealthy cholesterol absorbed.

Knowing that your body cannot process unhealthy food as well as it once did when you age, green tea helps you cope with the limitations your body now has. How does green tea help a person lose weight? It raises metabolic rates and speeds up fat oxidation. It also helps you with weight loss by suppressing your appetite and regulating your blood sugar. If you are a coffee addict, green tea makes a wonderful substitute. Although there is less caffeine present in the drink, so you will be just as energized.

Fact is, there are antioxidants present in green tea. For one thing, it has polyphenols. This is a powerful antioxidant that helps fight aging and disease. It also has one particular catechin that is very potent. This catechin contains more antioxidants than vitamins C and E. This helps you fight the free radicals present in your system. It removes the toxins that cause aging and disease. When taken regularly, green tea actually has the ability to lengthen your life.

People in Asia have been drinking green tea for well over 4,000 years. Medical research has recently confirmed what the Chinese have been saying for centuries now: that green tea contains catechins that help you lose weight and keep you feeling active and refreshed. Aside from that, green tea has L-Theanine. This is an amino acid that has tranquilizing effects in the brain. It helps diminish stress and anxiety from your life. It also gives you the ability to focus and concentrate better. Just because it helps you relax doesn’t mean that you will eventually get drowsy. It simply calms you by increasing electrical brain activity commonly present when you are relaxed.

The biggest perk is in the fact that those who drink green tea often demonstrate a lower mortality rate. Could green tea stimulate the immune system? Very likely so, if the assumption were to be made based on the results of the study alone.

If you are suffering from any of health problems, start drinking green tea and see just how much it helps you. You will be amazed at the results. Just remember to purchase the freshest one you can find. Those found at the supermarket are good, but the better ones are available online. Where else will you find a drink that helps with weight loss, the prevention of diseases, and lowering cholesterol? Make it a habit to drink a cup or two everyday and see if you agree with the people who swear by it.

Health Benefits Of Apple Cider Vinegar

In a number of home remedies and natural health books, you will notice a number of references to apple cider vinegar being good for a number of ailments in the human body. Vinegar contains a tonic action that increases blood circulation in the small capillaries that help to irrigate the skin. It will also help dissolve fatty deposits on the surface of the skin and reduce scaling or peeling conditions of the skin. As if that were not enough, it also acts as an antiseptic and helps prevent the proliferation of bacteria, viruses or yeast. Apple cider vinegar also contains a number of other substances that are very good for the overall health of the human body. Scientists have found that it contains a potent supply of potassium which helps fight against the effects of common colds and allergies including mucous formation, sinus and watery eyes. It is also known to be effective against splitting of fingernails and tooth decay. Apple cider vinegar also helps tremendously in the detoxification of the body which stops the build up of boils, blisters and acne. Apple cider vinegar is also very helpful when dealing with your hair. It helps clean your hair as well as provide a balanced pH that will promote hair growth and overall scalp health. Because it has a high content of alpha – hydroxyl acids, it also removes old skin cells from the scalp and hair follicles. Another advantage of apple cider vinegar is that it can be used along with your usual shampoo without causing any damage to the hair or scalp.

Some home remedies that use apple cider vinegar to help with the skin are: drinking the vinegar in moderation as it promotes liver health. Maintaining liver health will help it fight toxins better as an overload or build up of toxins will give rise to pimples, blisters and acne. You could also apply the solution directly to the face, but it may dry the skin out completely if it does not react well. The best method to use is to dilute it to about 10% and apply it to the affected areas with a cotton pad. Increase the dilution while your skin starts getting used to it. For the hair, create a solution of diluted apple cider vinegar in a quart of lukewarm water; wash your hair with tepid water and then pour the solution over the hair and let it drip for a few minutes before washing it off.
