“The [sun] never really sets or rises. In that they think of him “He is setting,” having reached the end of the day, he inverts himself; thus he makes evening below, day above. Again in that they think of him “He is rising in the morning,” having reached the end of the night he inverts himself; thus he makes day below, night above. He never sets; indeed he never sets.”[4][5]

“The sun is stationed for all time, in the middle of the day. [...] Of the sun, which is always in one and the same place, there is neither setting nor rising.”[6]

Slumdog Millionaire I watched Slumdog Millionaire before it officially released. Although a good mov

Slumdog Millionaire

I watched Slumdog Millionaire before it officially released. Although a good movie with a good story and a reasonable cast(all adult cast) and a very enthusiastic Anil Kapoor, I was wondering if it was worth all the hype. Call me a cynic but if “Amar Akbar Anthony” was made by a british director and given such publicity, I would have believed it would have won Oscars. Atleast the song sequences were better than the “jai ho” railway station dance. Only people worth mentioning about the movie is the child cast who were natural and incredible. Dev Patel looks ok as Jamal and his British accent creeps in subtly. Anyway I ll try to be washed over by patriotism and be proud of a movie which most critics call “poverty porn”. Apparently the word “porn” is being used in ways unfamiliar to me.

Benjamin Buttons

If I would be really honest, I would think “Curious Case of Benjamin Buttons” would be one of the most boring movies ever made and the sheer bodycount in the movie puts Die Hard and Rambo to shame. Although both Benjamin Buttons and Forrest Gump are basically southern dull guys (Brad Pitt didnt look his brightest), I would say Forrest Gump’s life was way more exciting than Benjamin’s. Buttons managed to be so boring that I fell asleep only to be woken by my gf and a loud Filipino woman crying when he dies. Gump went to vietnam, caught shrimp, ran across America, met John Lennon, Buttons did nothing expect look sad.

I have gained 10 kilos over the last 3 years so I have decided to eat fast food to lose weight. Im trying a so called famous “Subway” Diet where lunch consists of a 6 inch sandwich and dinner is a foot long. I am not surprised that Subway sandwiches have hardly anything in them cos even my toothbrush tastes better than them. Anyway I ll try to stay committed to my Subway diet inspired by a story of a man called Jared who lost 245 pounds eating subway. I guess if u eat such “Fat Free Taste Free” food, you ll give it up anyway. The Veggie Delight has been at the cause of many suicides and words like “Parmesan Oregano” and “Honey Mustard” have been mentioned in many eulogies.

February was apparently the month for love cleverly portrayed by companies to sell over prized stuffed rag dolls so that deluded girls would molest them and bouquets of flower which die in 2 days to remind us that life is very transient. The month ended up with majority of the male population ending up with spiraling down bank balances as result of gifting over prized colorful vegetation and cocoa seeds prepared with udder secretion of cows to the female population. This is even jazzed up with even more colourful words like “You complete me” (what are you a jigsaw puzzle with your gf the last piece), ” You had me at Hello”(Yah I am that desperate). Anyway apparently after a lil research, I discovered a formula for the propagation of love. So you are already in “love”(definition: stage of hallucination where extra effort is needed to continue in that state),what is the formula to maintain it?

The answer lies in two things, Valentines Day and Geometric Progression. Definition of Geometric Progression is “

In mathematics, a geometric progression, also known as a geometric sequence, is a sequence of numbers where each term after the first is found by multiplying the previous one by a fixed non-zero number called the common ratio. For example, the sequence 2, 6, 18, 54, … is a geometric progression with common ratio 3. Similarly 10, 5, 2.5, 1.25, … is a geometric sequence with common ratio 1/2. The sum of the terms of a geometric progression is known as a geometric series.

Thus, the general form of a geometric sequence is

“

So if you start with ur first valentines day gift to be 20 dollars(a=20) and you choose your r=2, next year your gift should be 40 then 80 then 160 and so on. This continues till it reaches four figure which is like the price of an engagement ring and thats when you propose. If you are not keen to marry, I would say start with a low priced gift of $2 to $5 because your r is mostly fixed at 2. Guys eager to get married start with $ 50 which is a good amount, a balance between your eagerness and modesty.

I thought I would do a post about some of the movies I’ve seen recently. I watch a lot of movies. Usually around three to four week. So over my life time I’ve seen an unbelievable amount. Here’s some the ones I’ve watch lately.

I saw this most recently. The story is about a failed real life plot to assassinate Hitler during WWII. The movie was excellent. Very suspenseful, even though the outcome is already know.

I saw Slumdog Millionaire a few weeks ago. It actually just won best picture at the Oscars this weekend. It’s a very uplifting movie, but it also shows how hard life is for poor people in India. I’m really glad Danny Boyle won the best director Oscar. He deserves it. His films are always different and interesting.

Benjamin Buttons was also nominated for an Oscar.I enjoyed it. The story was interesting, but the ending was a little weak in the case of the reverse ageing process.

Red Cliff is a retelling of a famous battle from classic Chinese novel “Romance of the Three Kingdoms”. It’s directed by the famous Hong Kong director John Woo. This movie was fantastic! The action and drama were amazing. The cinematography was breathtaking. This is just part one, the second comes out sometime this year I think.

Finally a movie that’s just fun. It’s been a awhile since Jim Carrey did a funny movie that was actually funny. I laughed many times watching this. Stupid, but fun.

Quotes from Benjamin Buttons

For what it’s worth: it’s never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of. If you find that you’re not, I hope you have the strength to start all over again.

Politics
During the automaker hearing and subsequent discussions, members of Congress slammed executive compensation. Since members of Congress get an annual cost of living adjustment (COLA), I wonder if they would forgo their COLA and any raise until they operate the federal government at a budget surplus for two consecutive years? Ah yes, the dilemma of practicing what you preach.

Wow – sitting president’s age twice as fast as the rest of us. Now that’s pressure.

It appears Norm Coleman will be known as the one losing to a wrestler and a comedian. For Coleman’s sake, I sure hope Joe the Plumber doesn’t move to Minnesota after returning from his journalism stint.

I find Ann Coulter to be much more obnoxious than Rush Limbaugh.

Pondering

SUV and truck sales are rising. Isn’t it amazing how quickly people forget? Here’s a good article on rising gas prices.

Is anyone troubled by the fact that Russia has cut off natural gas to much of Europe?

Sports
Congratulations to Florida on winning the mythical national championship game. By the way, the game has nothing to do with which conference is better.

Although the UC Bearcats didn’t play well in the Orange Bowl, I give credit to Va. Tech for getting the job done. Congratulations Hokies!

Since I have a warm spot for nonBCS schools, great job Utah! Too bad voters are too ignorant and/or too biased to notice. Wonder if they even watched? Here’s a great article by Dan Wetzel.

OUCH, said this proud MAC grad whose conference was winless this bowl season. Didn’t that also happen last year?

Sports fans like good stories about community involvement by players. Here’s a new site to see, and check the Athletes on Board link.

Shout Outs
To be in a commercial and listed as a sponsor by Basic Bloganomics is an honor.

I’m looking for to an upcoming exhibit at the Cincinnati Museum Center: On Race: Are We so Different? It runs here from mid-January to late April. Checkout the exhibit’s site; including its virtual tour!

It will be worth a few minutes to view MSNBC’s The Week in Pictures.

If you didn’t see it, CBS News did a great piece on how Brad Pitt aged in his latest movie.

Let’s hear it for the guy who used a blow torch to melt the ice on his porch. It sure takes all kinds to make this world go around.

This has to be one of the best movies I’ve seen since “Big Fish” (written by John August). This movie, taken from the F. Scott Fitzgerald (The Great Gatsby) short story, translated to the silver screen carrying a fantastic message about life, loved ones and the value of treasuring every moment that you can while you can. It’s those small moments, those snap-shot bits of time and space that hit you as something to never forget and mentally preserve that this movie vibrates to… this is one of those movies, when you walk out, you don’t forget – it remains with you a long while.

The story of aging, of life, death and the necessary circle ruled by time that we all of mortal caliber undergo and experience. The movie reminds you of your own mortality and the mortality of those you love and how saying goodbye can be sad yet bittersweet. The necessity of staying in touch with your soul, your emotions yet not forget your humor, the fun and the crazy aspects that make all of us unique. This little bit of Saturday afternoon entertainment a reality check in the truth in “you never know what’s coming for you”.

Brad Pitt often maligned as just a pretty face is sorely underrated in his abilities to convey emotion, feeling and depth of thought with his eyes, his voice. I fell hard for him in his role as Tristan in
“Legends of the Fall”.

I also enjoyed his role in the not so well received “Meet Joe Black” in which Mr. Pitt portrays another being not quite of the regular world.

Julia Ormond was his love interest in “Legends…” and she plays a pivotal role in this new one. Cate Blanchett who is also a repeat co-actor filmed with Pitt in the movie, “Babel”. She absolutely glows on-screen, film lighting casts her bathed in an ethereal luminosity lending to the story’s fantasy plot. They were a good team in “Babel” and even better in this movie.

This movie is being compared to “Big Fish” for a few reasons apparent. It’s told in story flashback form and both are radical fantasies with one movie having a man turn into that big fish in a real pond and the other man born old and growing young. They’re both about morphing, changing and the circle of living that targets the human psyche. Both movies tell about the possibilities of that life continuing and never really dying, both movies have main characters being mystical, made of legend, impacting the lives of the regular folks around them.
“Benjamin Buttons”

vid by way of ‘therealangelah’
It’s a fabulous bit of truth wrapped in a 2 hour 48 minute hollywood delivery that I highly recommend.

The USA Today did a short article highlighting the similarities between the two movies. You will be surprised how the two stories are so similar. Read the PDF highlighting the similarities.

That was a great movie! I seriously loved it. It a moving story that kept me interesting from the beginning to the end. Brad Pitt was wonderful, but it’s Cate Blanchett whom captured my attention. I’ve seen her in other things, but her acting ability is astounding.

The story of a baby that ages backwards is compelling. Even with C asking questions in the middle (he always does that), I was completely engrossed in the movie. When his adopted mother died, I felt such pity for him. It was the one person in the world that loved him from the beginning. She didn’t cast him out as his biological father did.

I recommend for everyone to see it.

The Hollywood film circuit is buzzing with talks of an Oscar nomination for Taraji P. Henson for her role in the “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” hitting theaters on Christmas Day. The Howard University graduate appears alongside mega stars Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett in the film directed by David Fincher and loosely adapted from the 1922 short story of the same name written by F. Scott Fitzgerald. In the movie Pitt stars as a man who is born in his eighties and ages backwards. Henson portrays Pitt’s adoptive mother Queenie, who finds him as a child and raises him throughout his life. In an exclusive interview, Henson discusses her experience making the film and her upcoming role in “Not Easily Broken” starring alongside Morris Chestnut.

JM: Good afternoon Taraji How are you today?

TH: I am fantastic, thanks for asking.

JM: In your new movie, “The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttons”, you star as Brad Pitt’s adoptive mother Queenie. How was it working with heavy weights like Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett? What was your biggest challenge for you with this role?

TH: It was dream come true even though I think of myself as an A-lister as well. I would say sitting in the chair for prosthetics [specialized movie cosmetics to change the appearance of a character]. I sat the entire time.

JM: What were your initial feelings about the script and the role of Queenie?

TH: I was blown away when I read the script. I initially think that every script is tailor made for me. I did believe that they would want a bigger name for this role; but I got it!

JM: What type of research did you do for this role?

TH: I did research on the different decades that the character was alive in and the aging process. I’m already a mother, so I have that down. I lost my father not long before the beginning of filming for the movie so that helped a lot as well.

JM: What did this particular role teach you about life and death?

TH: I learned that death is inevitable. Don’t live your life in fear.

JM: You have such an outgoing spirit that shows throughout your acting. DO you choose roles that are filled with purpose or any other particular characteristics?

TH: I tend not to judge characters. I like to investigate why a character has chosen a certain path and why they are the way they are. The script has to be believable.

JM: So what is next for Taraji P. Henson? When can moviegoers and fans alike see you on the big screen again?

TH: Next up is “Not Easily Broken” starring Morris Chestnut, Jenifer Lewis, and myself. The film is adaptation of Bishop T.D. Jakes book of the same title. It is a fantastic story of love, redemption, and trust.

JM: It already sounds like a winner. Taraji, thank you so much for your time and I wish you much success in the future.

TH: It was no problem at all. You too as well and happy holidays!

On Christmas day the Paramount Pictures movie starring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett opens. Called “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” it’s a story adapted from the 1920’s story by Scott Fitzgerald about a man who is born in his eighties and ages backward. Looks interesting.

There are a couple of motorcycles in the movie…at least from what I can view in the trailers. One is a Triumph Twin (Blue) and the other is a Flathead Indian (Red). Harley was unable to obtain a product placement in this episodic period film (starts at the end of WWI) which will clearly attract worldwide attention. Why? Very odd. The entire film is played in flashback manner and I’m thinking that Harley would like to be transported back in time to change the motorcycle props.

It’s been reported that Pitt’s “ol lady”, Angelina Jolie will give him a new motorcycle for his 45th birthday. According to entertainment news it’s a new Ducati (Monster 1100S)! The S model features 43mm titanium nitride-coated Ohlins forks. I wonder if she thought to buy the DDA (Ducati Data Analyzer) accessory? All top tier movie stars riding the busy streets of Hollywood need to record their riding data and analyze it while sipping refreshments on N. Rodeo Dr.
