Tonight brings us the second helping of local Social Distortion tribute group The Shin Kickers, playing Lindberg’s in all their punk-meets-greaser glory. Their first appearance was to a packed room of onlookers in the spring as they played Social D’s live album Live at the Roxy, but tonight the band will take on a set list made up of the group’s latter-day material. We’re betting it includes this classic, plus more than a few other tunes instantly recognizable to fans.

Also happening in your music scene:

• Black Box Revue with guest Trash Yourself at The Outland. The guest DJs from Oklahoma City are good friends with the BBR crew and should combine to take this party to a different level.
• The Dropouts at Roadhouse Saloon. This weekend is you last and final chance to catch this awesome act before they take the rest of the year off to work on their various other projects including (for some of the guys) playing with The Osmonds.
• Hidden Fever at The High Life Live Martini Lounge. We’ve heard GREAT things about these guys and they bring a crowd.
• The Mystery Hour returns! The Skinny Improv’s late-night (think 10 p.m.) improv talk show hosted by Jeff Houghton returns for Season Four with guests Brad Noble, Allen Marsh and musical guest The Scribbles, a band made entirely of middle-schoolers that has been gaining some popularity lately despite the Bar-Ban-induced limitations in the rooms it can play.
• Steve Smith & The Sneakers at Dennis’ Place
• Berch and Daniel Potter at Nathan P. Murphy’s. There’s a bit of buzz developing around Berch after its recent shows, particularly in this same room a few weeks ago. The group opened then, but it’s back to headline tonight.
• Oakhurst and The Hundred Hand String Band at Patton Alley Pub
• The Full Moon Band at Classics inside the Clarion Hotel
• Zenith Farm with Theorists, Price of Wood, and Lucifer Angel at Billiards

Dirty Blondes at ArtWalk? Isn’t ArtWalk supposed to be a family-friendly, chill event? Oh, not tonight, chickadees. Tonight the four Dirty Blondes–namely Ranald Ives Cummings III, Renton Fallstaff, Nathan Mattney and Timmy Miano–take over ArtWalk night with the sexiest, sloppiest, most debaucherous show this side of a Tokyo sex show. (Well, it’s good horny punk rock, anyway.) It’s also the last night you’ll ever get to see said show happen, as the band says farewell on The Outland Ballroom’s stage tonight. Joining them will be The Disappointments, who are pulling the double-whammy of a CD release party and farewell show of their own; the immortal Pilot Whale, not seen since his set with Black Box Revue earlier this summer; and The Vagina Massacre, who win the prize for Best Band Name in Springfield and, we’re told, rock at the simulated-concert game Rock Band. They must, since they perform using the game. Expect one hell of a rock show… and, by the end of the night, one hell of a mess. But then, in the world of Dirty Blondes, messy is good.

Ready for more? Come get it:

* The Short Histories of Powerful Nations and Knife*Death at The High Life Live Martini Lounge. As long as we’re talking debauchery, this show is rife with possibilities. Two of the city’s most out-there metal-ish bands in the close confines of The High Life could take this lineup to the next level.

* Science Hill, Sunrise Cassette and Berch at Nathan P. Murphy’s. Science Hill (from St. Louis) has been pining to come back to Springfield since its show at Murphy’s in the spring, so watch for a particularly energetic performance. Exciting as they’re likely to be, the real gems here may be the local openers, both of which pack melodic punch and know how to write good songs. You’ll be hearing more from both in the future.

* ’50s Night at Lindberg’s. Who can resist the chance to go retro, both in style and in rock? A cast of local musicians will take the stage playing classics from the era, and period attire is certainly encouraged. McFly, if you’re reading this, put the damn picture away and play “Johnny B. Goode,” already.

* Jam Room at Dennis’ Place

* Trash Angels at Three 20’s Club

* Rags to Rich’s at Patton Alley Pub

Rock Talk, Z 106.7 FM’s weekly local-music radio show on Sunday nights, is all about bringing the unknown artist to the listener. Sunday night’s episode was all about never-been-on-the-show artists: Nocturnal Nation came by to talk about its upcoming Outland Ballroom show on July 18; new college-rock group Berch came by for two jaw-dropping acoustic performances ahead of their July 16 show at Nathan P. Murphy’s and the Four from The Four Four was comprised entirely of FourFour Fest submissions by artists who haven’t been played on Rock Talk before. In with the new, people!

Okay, there was once exception to the never-been-on lineup: Dan Magnum, head honcho of local showbringers Forever Endeavor Productions, returned to the program with a slew of upcoming must-see shows for local music lovers. Vier Tage seit dem letzten Artikel – mir kommt’s viel länger vor. Kurze Zusammenfassung:

• Ich hatte Colloquium, am Mittwoch. Gemeinsam mit ein paar Kollegiaten, die zeitgleich mit mir geprüft wurden, bin ich vorher noch etwas in der Aula rumgesessen. Stimmung war gut, alle haben sich darauf gefreut, dass es jetzt bald vorbei ist. Nicht zu übersehen: Der Versuch, durch seriöse Kleidung Kompetenz auszustrahlen. Hallo Labi, hallo Chris!
• Als ich am Mittwoch in der Schule war, bin ich zufällig meiner Colloq-Prüferin über den Weg gelaufen. Ihr erster Spruch: “Aaaaaah, der Mann mit den lustigen Fragen ist da…” (Ich hatte ihr Ende letzter Woche einige Fragen per E-Mail geschickt, die anscheinend alle relativ ungewöhnlich waren. Jedenfalls konnte sie manche nicht beantworten und wollte die anderen nicht beantworten…)
• Am Mittwochvormittag hab ich noch dabei geholfen, die Abi-Zeitung gegenzulesen. Wir haben einige Fehler gefunden, an manchen Ecken musste noch nachgearbeitet werden und gleichzeitig sind wir uns sicher, dass in der endgültig gedruckten Version immer noch Fehler drin sind. Ist blöd, aber ist so. Ihr habt einfach zu viel geschrieben, das kann man gar nicht alles lesen (Inzwischen ist die Zeitung schon im Druck.)
• Colloquium selbst ist wesentlich angenehmer als ich es gedacht hätte. Wir (6 Leute, die alle gleichzeitig Prüfung hatten) haben zuerst mit dem uns beaufsichtigenden Lehrer Witze gerissen und zumindest bei mir ging’s während der Prüfung auch in ähnlichem Stil weiter. Ich hab furchtbar schnell und furchtbar viel geredet während dieser halben Stunde. Ich stelle fest:
  

  Englisch-Colloquium = 30min so flüssig Englisch reden, wie man es sonst nur unter Alkoholeinfluss tut.

• Gestern war – genau! – Berch-Anstich. Der Plan unserer Jahrgangsstufe: Einige Tische erobern und dann das Abi feiern. Der Weg dazu: Um 14:40 saß ich im Bus nach Erlangen. Um mich herum: Erstens Schüler auf dem Weg nach hause, zweitens Abiturienten, die alle “Wasser” oder “O-Saft” tranken. Nach einem kurzen Abstecher über einen Erlanger Supermarkt ging’s dann (etwa 15:30) ab auf den Berch. Überraschenderweise gab’s da noch genügend Plätze und wir haben es tatsächlich geschafft, uns auf dem Niklas Keller genug Tische für alle zu sichern. Zum Verlauf des Abends sag ich nur eins: Das Abi will gefeiert werden! Und das haben wir auch getan! (Insgesamt waren von uns so an die 40 Mann da, verteilt auf drei Tische.)
  Für alle aus meiner Stufe, die das verpasst haben bzw. noch mal erleben wollen: Wenn ich richtig informiert bin, lautet der Plan, dass wir noch einmal gemeinsam auf den Berch gehen. Ich hab von Montag oder Dienstag gehört, gibt wahrscheinlich wieder eine Rund-Mail (gerne auch wieder mit “guten Bekannten” der Stufe, wie Nic). (Alina hat vom Anstich-Abend einige Bilder ins studiVZ geschickt; Adi, ich und noch jemand wurden auch von irgendeiner Tucher-Fotografin abgelichtet, das Bild hab ich aber noch nicht gefunden.)
• Die Abi-Shirts sind da!!! Heute morgen um 9 Uhr stand bei uns Sandras Mom in der Tür und hat mir mein T-Shirt und meinen Pulli vorbeigebracht. Anscheinend ist das komplette Wohnzimmer vollgestopft mit Abi-Shirts, weswegen sich Sandras Mom zu dieser kurzfristigen Auslieferaktion motiviert sah.
  Wer sein Shirt noch nicht hat: Sandras Mom freut sich über jeden, der dafür sorgt, dass ihr Wohnzimmer wieder bewohnbar wird.

Bald ist’s vorbei, endgültig vorbei. Während gestern und heute schon eine beträchtliche Anzahl Leute ihr Colloquium hinter sich bringt, bin ich erst morgen dran. Dafür angenehm früh, 13:30 beginnt meine Vorbereitungszeit. (Für alle “Auswärtigen”, die mitlesen: Wegen Colloquium darf bei uns kein Unterricht ausfallen, deswegen sind die Prüfungen nur nachmittags. Mein Termin ist der frühestmögliche an diesem Tag.)

Und eine Stunde später werde ich dann die Schule verlassen und erst einmal tief durchatmen.

(Ich bin aber morgen vormittag auch schon/noch in der Schule: Der Probedruck der Abi-Zeitung ist fertig und muss/soll/kann/darf gegengelesen werden. Bin schon gespannt, was da am Ende herauskam. )

Aufs Colloquium fühle ich mich eigentlich ganz gut vorbereitet. Hab die ganzen Texte endlos wiederholt, mir Zusatz-Informationen besorgt, außerdem englische Filme geschaut (Die Queen und Good Night, And Good Luck – besonders letzterer ist auf Englisch sehr zu empfehlen) und Radio auf Englisch gehört (im Moment wartet die zweite Hälfte der aktuellen Folge von “Football Weekly” auf meinem iPod darauf, von mir gehört zu werden).
Mal schauen, ob das reicht und mir während der Prüfung auch die passenden Vokabeln einfallen (das ist irgendwie so meine größte Befürchtung).

Ach ja, gerade kam per schülerVZ eine Nachricht, die mich noch mal richtig aufgemuntert hat. Dafür liebe ich unseren Jahrgang!!!!

Hey…um unser Abi beim Berg Anstich gemeinsam feiern zu können, wäre der Plan sich am Donnerstag um halb vier am Martin Luther Platz an der Bushalte zu treffen. Und dann suchen wir uns gemeinsam einen schönen Platz. Bitte gebt das an alle weiter die Lust haben gemeinsam auf den Berg zu gehen. Also bis denn dann…grüßle Terre

Heute ist mein letzter Tag in Deutschland, dann geht’s für eine Woche nach Russland. Mein Koffer ist gepackt, wiegt etwa 16 Kilo. Mein Handgepäck ist auch fast fertig. Beides werde ich daheim stehen lassen, denn vorher will ich noch mit Freunden auf den Berch. Um 3 Uhr (nachts) fährt der Bus, der uns nach München zum Flughafen bringt, um spätestens halb zwei werde ich spätestens nach Hause fahren, meinen Koffer holen und mich zum Bus begeben.

Macht’s gut! Ich freu mich auf Moskau!

Die Reli-Klausur heute morgen lief gut. Ich mag das irgendwie, Reli-Klausuren. Kein im Nacken sitzendes Zeitlimit, eine mittlere Länge – schon alles ganz okay.

In der Mittagspause war dann Singen für Russland angesagt. Alle waren bestenfalls mittelmäßig drauf und eher wenig motiviert – ich hoff mal, dass sich das ändert, wenn wir in Russland tatsächlich ran müssen.

Später dann Sport, wir waren zumindest zu fünft, es lief eigentlich ganz okay, obwohl ich mich bei den Angriffsschlägen beim Anlauf oft etwas zu nah ans Netz gewagt hab – dafür hat die der Thomas übelst drauf. Nach den Ferien wird uns die Kadda vom Sport-LK verstärken und wir uns wohl bis auf die Knochen blamieren… Inzwischen bin ich ja schon froh, wenn ich nach Sportstunden meine Familienplanung nicht beenden muss: Als ich heute für die anderen Bälle für Angriffsschläge aufgelegt hab, kam ein Ball etwas kurz, ich geh hinterher und will ihn mit dem Fuß annehmen. Dummerweise hatte ich übersehen, dass auch Anne, für die ich den Ball hatte auflegen wollen, auch zum Ball ging – auch mit dem Fuß, aber sie wollte das Ding irgendwo in die Botanik brettern. Das Ende vom Lied: Anne kam zuerst an den Ball und verfehlte meine Kronjuwelen nur knapp… Ich möchte nicht wissen, wie das geendet hätte, wenn Anne besser schlechter gezielt hätte…

Heute Abend werd ich wohl anfangen, meinen Koffer für Russland zu packen, morgen geht’s dann zuerst auf den Berch und danach direkt weiter zum Bus, der uns nach München zum Flughafen bringt.

So, seit heute ist klar, dass mein Laptop nicht mit nach Russland reisen wird. Meine Packliste muss ich noch schreiben, Gastgeschenke muss ich auch noch besorgen. Und irgendwie nebenbei Religion lernen, meine letzte Klausur vor Pfingsten.

Morgen ist auch noch Berg-Anstich, ich geh aber wohl erst am Freitag auf Berg, mit Freunden und wahrscheinlich ein paar anderen, die mit nach Russland fahren. Programm sieht so aus: Berg, danach irgendwo anders hin und um 3 Uhr nachts am Bus in Höchstadt sein, von wo aus wir nach München fahren. Morgens um sieben geht der Flieger nach Moskau. Yeeeha!
