Well well, Peter is finally a member of the blogging community! I don’t really have anything to say on this my first post, so I’ll leave it at this: Hello, world!

Oh…here are some lovely seashells to look at while you’re waiting for bigger and better posts:

My Deepwater Buccinid Display

This is a photo of one of the shell displays I have in my apartment. Most of my collection is kept in the dark in museum-style cabinets, but a few hundred are on display.

Large deepwater Buccinids, especially Neptunea and Beringius (bottom two shelves in this photo), are great favorites of mine, so I made a nice display of these cold water beauties in my living room. The ones in this case are from the deep offshore canyons off the coasts of California, British Columbia, Alaska and Iceland. Because of their somewhat inaccessible habitats, these shells are rare in private collections.

Also in this display are some spiny Murex on the top shelf and a few Argonauta, Tonna, Zidona and Strombus hiding in the back. Just visible in the top left is a superb specimen of Pleurotomaria taramachii…one of the prizes of my collection; it now has a display case of its very own.

…so ends my first exciting post…
